OneX to TV - HTC One X

I basically want to view pictures&videos stored on the phone on *any* LCD TV.
Can someone please help clarify these questions:
- the Medialink HD needs a WiFi connection to work, otherwise it's a 90$ door stopper?
- alternative for simple mirroring the screen is a MHL cable such as M490 MicroUSB to HDMI, but it requires charging while operating?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/HTC-AC-M490-Cable-Sensation/dp/B005CNLGAS
what the hell is out there to serve the simple purpose of showing some pictures&videos on a large screen while visiting someone's house? without needing to have WiFi or wall charger all the time.

Currently the MHL Cable is the best bet to get onto any HDMI equipped TV. If that TV does not have a USB output to power the adapter (and hence the phone) then I have found taking a portable battery pack that I have serves that purpose well. It’s 5000mAh which is more than enough to keep things going for an evenings films. Plus as it only charges at 500mA (if I use a standard USB cable) instead of the wall charger’s 1A the phone doesn’t get so hot.
However...something to consider if you do have access to WiFi, and don’t want to shell out of that HD Media Link....
I was going to buy one myself until I bought my NAS drive. It has a built-in media server called Twonky which my Xbox and PS3 can stream from. Stupid name aside, I wondered if there was an android version.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pv.twonkyremote&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5wdi50d29ua3lyZW1vdGUiXQ..
If (like my friends) they have either an Xbox, PS3 or Windows PC hooked up to the TV, these can (via a WiFi network) stream a move straight off your phone and play on the TV. It works well. Hard to determine the effect on battery drain as I am one of the ones with this WiFi hardware fault, and my battery life in general on WiFi is shocking.

I just bought this, but not arrived yet.

I just bought the same too, works nicely
BTW, you do need the USB powered else the adaptor doesn't work

How do you expect to show pictures/video on a tv screen without wifi or MHL? Bluetooth is too slow...
You can use any DLNA supported thing over wifi to send pictures or video. The HTC Media Link is the only thing able to mirror the screen though.

I just wanted to add,the media link hd has is own WiFi. If you are in an area without WiFi it will act like an access point for the hox. In fact you have to configure it to use your network.oob it uses is own WiFi.
So no need for external WiFi...

@domsch: Thats exactly what i was missing from the big picture! Are you sure i can connect the phone to the MPHD without having an external wifi available?
I dont need a power supply because i dont intend to stream full movies or something, just to display pictures and small clips shot with the phone when im visiting family...

There are a lot of instances where WiFi isn't present. Hotel rooms, visiting parents etc.
Just to confirm. The media link hd doesn't need a WiFi network to work. It can produce its own signal that the phone can connect to.

One X doesn’t have a dedicated video out port, so there are no direct HDMI/Composite/Component cable solutions.
You can either
Connect your phone as a mass storage device to the TV or Media player (If they support USB devices)
Use a MHL adaptor (requires power)
DLNA (requires a DLNA capable TV or a Media player).

I got the OEM MHL to HDMI adapted from Amazon for $14. You need your own separate HDMI cord...I saw a few adapters that go straight to an extended 6' HDMI cable but this is fairly small and compact.
Unfortunately there's no such thing as wirelessly streaming your phone's screen over Wi-Fi to your TV so the only downside is that you have to be in a physical proximity with your TV
Also, it's a great thing if your TV has a USB service input. I'm not sure if this is just my TVs but I need to connect my data cable to the adapter, as well as the TV for the phone to mirror itself on my television. Basically it needs an external power source to run its course.

I'm not 100% on this but thought I read somewhere our phone has
DLNA built in? Which if your TV has it too will allow wireless streaming of certain material.I doubt would transfer your home screen for texting but can stream videos you've shot with your phone. Usually fuzzy pic thou, I tried I couple times when I had the sensation.

You can also connect with DLNA to an xbox or ps3 and stream videos and music from your phone that way. It works great with my SGSII and my Amaze.

Linking SGS3 too Your TV to watch streaming videos?

So last night i connected my SGS3 to my TV via USB it shows up on my Samsung TV But only too look at my pictures and my videos is there. Is there any way i can go to like a website like justin.tv on my phone then connect to the TV and watch it stream to my TV? I tried Allshare play but seem to only let me look at my photos and my videos that i have stored on my phone.

Don't know how to explain set-up but look into an app called Twonky. I searched Youtube on how to set it up. I turn my bluray player on and can play any file from my phone through a home network. My TV is older and doesn't have the capability but my bluray player does. Hope it helps
I think i figured it out i was looking at the pic and just found out you have to have a MHL to HDMI Adapter from samsung and you can view everything your doing on your phone to your tv just like that! I also found a video of someone using the HDMI adapter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ej94ZiyQaVk&feature=related..... So cool i can stream anything i find online to my tv!
I can't wait for the wireless adapter to come out. I saw a Sprint rep show off the HTC Evo LTE's ability to cast phone content to a tv via HTC 's wireless adapter, it's a pretty cool feature.

I've connected to a Sony bdpbx59 and Samsung bd5700 blu ray players.
Both displayed pictures fine but streamed the videos very choppy on both usb and Wi-Fi connection.
I messed with it for a few days and couldn't figure out if it was the players or something i massed in configuration.
What kind of not ray player are you using?
Do you stream via Wi-Fi or are you connecting your phone to your blu Ray via usb?

why does this have to be rediculously expensive? sure it would be nice to connect the cord and easily watch youtube video's and etc., but what other purpose would you need to stream video from ur phone to ur tv? i'm not a huge android gamer so that is kind of out of the question too.. $40 is a bit much to justify it's purpose :/ then there is business uses where people might use this at work for presentations, which i won't need to do.. this is a very expensive adapter

Nobody actually buys official samsung adapters, they are way too overpriced.
There's this MHL cable for $11 and an adapter tip for the SGS3 for $10 so it comes out to $21.
Hell, I'd pay up to $80 for it since other things you can buy for the same purpose are $200 or more - PS3, Bluray player, etc. These other devices can't even do nearly the same (no MKV, AVI, etc.).
With the MHL cable, I can just download a movie on my phone and watch it on the TV.
I guess it doesn't matter much if you aren't a huge TV/Movie watcher, but I ditched Comcast TV and now I watch usually 1 movie a day and a bunch of TV shows every time I discover a new (good) series. The way I watch these is with the MHL cable through the TV.
Another option
There is another option, if you are just looking to play videos on your phone on your television. If you have a ps3 or some other device capable of finding media servers you could just connect to your phone (there are some apps on the market that will let you do that). Only problem is that on ps3, cinavia protection might stop you.

Everything on the screen is mirrorable.
Alright, I've found 1,000 walkthrough's for streaming video's through an HDTV, but what about for those of us that still haven't upgraded to one? I don't watch mainstream television, and I don't really play console video games so I've seen no need to make the upgrade. It would be nice if I could figure out a way to connect it via RCA because although I don't personally watch TV/WHATEVER I do occasionally have guests that do!!! My idea would be starting with the original cable, running it through HDMI, and then something like this: http://dx.com/p/greenconnection-hdm...campaign=124&gclid=COaks-_s5rgCFQE6Qgod7DkATg
It sounds good in theory, but that'd be a good $70 all together and an unnecessary amount of cabling... Any alternative/cheaper suggestions/anybody that's actually tried this???
Afraid you'd have to use the rca adaptor when going with an older tv. Had to pick on up for our tablet and my daughter's tv. Keep in mind (didn't look at the specs in your link) that you also want to make sure that your phone can get power *and* be connected through hdmi. Our tablet has separate power and hdmi connections. Not so much on the s3

Thanks a lot!!
Try using the Netgear PTV3000 Miracast adapter. It is compatible with Allshare cast. I've been using for several months and works great for mirroring whatever is on your screen and is wireless. I think it also supports 5.1 sound and 1080p.

Samsung EPL-3PHP HDTV Adapter

Just received EPL-3PHP HDMI adapter from Amazon UK (£23.00) and happy to confirm working with my GT-N8010 with latest UK JB 4.1.2

Hi Purchased from Amazon UK (seller was Amazon)http://http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0051D3KKI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 actual price £23.55 but now looks like Amazon have suspended that item until they review a complaint, suggest you keep an eye on that link.
Surprised No has been able to answer my question regarding BT trackball!!!
If its a BT track ball I would think it will hook up just fine, same way a BT mouse would.
Just to let you know if you are in the UK with a HMV store nearby you can get these for £10. Picked up a couple last week.

Hi which one do you have, how do you connect it to the tablet, I assume its just Bluetooth no dongle, thanks.:good:
Simple the original one:
http://www.amazon.de/PlayStation-Du...HY/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1362585611&sr=8-10
bought it when it was on amazon for 35€ incl. shipping!!! nice deal i thought. I do connect it with the app "sixaxxis" (bluetooth). Requires root though, but pretty nice app. Now i can play all the games of my childhood: zelda (oot, n64), tekken (psx) without the need to install the damn ugly consoles in my living room .. thats just awesome!!
After installing the app I noticed that you can emulate a mouse. That is very useful to me for streaming movies from my server, look something up on imdb and so on with the hdmi adapter...
any more questions? ?

So no way of having it connect to bt when using the hdmi adapter, bummer.

I just sent back the wireless allshare adapter because the streamed image has 15FPS when not buffered, the quality is worse than i expected and it ends every multitasking capability of the Note.

Well, keep in mind the ASCD won't mess with the resolution or color depth of the image displayed on the LCD, so if you see video quality issues (bad scaling or graininess or such) it's likely due to what your TV does with the not-quite 720P resolution of the signal from the Note 10.1 (1280x720 isn't a native resolution of most monitors and likely scales it to 1366x768), so I'm betting that the picture via the HDMI hard-wired cable will look the same (on static images) as did the picture from the ASCD.

New 2013 model of HDTV Adapter?
I'm shopping around for an HDTV Adapter for my GT-N8010 at the moment, and I've noticed that several online shops are advertising a new 2013 model - EPL-NPHPBKG.
e.g. - www dot amazon dot com /Original-Samsung-Genuine-EPL-NPHPBKG-EPL-3PHPBEG/dp/B00B8NJ6E4
They claim that it is the next verson of EPL-3PHPBEG (the model that this thread is about). Does anyone know what the difference is? The only thing I can see that might be an improvement is "Simultaneously charge your Galaxy Note 10.1 while streaming". I've seen reports on other threads about their tablet not charging while plugged in to the HDTV adapter. Can you confirm if this functionality exists on your EPL-3PHP?

Ah. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166540
Hi,
I dont know the id of my hdtv adapter but as far as i own it since the early days of my previous tab 10.1 (p7500) I am pretty sure it's the "old" one.
I can confirm the adapter is definetly charging my n8000 while connected to my tv behind the docking station (universal samsung), streaming .mkv from my ubuntu desktop / server machine and being controlley by emulated mouse with my ps3 gamepad (via sixaxxis).
Sure you won't win a speed challange with that configuration but the main point is it is charging. I guess about ~ 2..3 % / 0,5..1,0 h (never did a measurement ) but still charging. Thats pretty nice because sometimes when I come home from university and the battery is nearly empty (sometimes 2 days of usage with a single charge) I plug my note into the docking station, let it charge to 3 or 4 %, turn it on and start streaming. When I end the day and shut down the tv the note is at about ~10% and ready to get charged the whole night.

Update, just purchased apple Magic Trackpad looks like it works on my Tablet, No Dongle just Pin number input for connecting, so in theory I will be able to use it to control Note 10.1 whilst connected via HDMI adapter to TV, will confirm when it arrives this week.
Just received my EPL-3PHPBEG from Expansys. It was not the most expensive, but dirt cheap either. It works. It says it is for the Tab 10. The price on this seems to vary wildly with the cheaper ones (19-25$) all seeming to be out of stock, except today went back to Amazon and the Zeeestmm version now seems to be in stock and going for 29.00$
It works for my purpose - Powerpoint and other document projection. It does need to be powered, and the tab needs to be rebooted at least for the projector to recognize it. So it's working fine on my Tab Note 10.1.
What chaps me about Samsung, it the myriad of numbers and letters, all a bit different, but all seeming to be the same item. I thought it was bad with the phones and tabs, but it is beyond annoying with accessories.

Thanks for the reminder. Probably the image will look not better than before. However, it was not a difficult decision why i sent the Allshare Cast Hub back to amazon. For 60€ it's just to much for what it would have been for me. Ending all MultiWindow possibilities is probably the worst part. Well, with the HDMI cable i won't be able to connect USB anymore .. so everything has pros and cons. For what it offers, the wireless adapter was just too expensive and i was really annoyed that it was never remarked on ANY website i read that it ends multitasking features of the Note 10.1.

Wireless display / MHL

Hi,
I have tested Z1C with both Miracast dongle and MHL cable.
MHL cable is so called 5 PIN cable. The same one that works with Galaxy S2 and HTC One X.
MHL Cable works just fine.
I have also tested Miracast dongle (iPazzport). It connects slowly in Miracast mode. Screen and sound gets transferred to TV very slowly. It is basically unusable. The same dongle works just fine with Asus HD7 tablet.
DLNA mode is not usable either for video. At least not for HD content. It can be used for sound transfer. But it has minor problems also with sound only connections. I have tested with the same iPazzport HDMI dongle and WD HDTV Live box.
Please share your experience.

There is definitely some lag with MHL. I can only express my gut feeling. 50-100 ms, I guess. Is there any good way to measure it?
I am using this adapter:
www.ebay.com/itm/310855110310
I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Decrescent-Adapter-Samsung-Galaxy-Smartphones/dp/B00I5J6WVY
but it will take 2 weeks more to come.
I plan to order the PS3 controller too for gaming on screen, but not sure how it will be with the lag. also not sure if these cheap ps3 controllers will work or i need the original ps3 controller. for wireless of course, not planing to use wired controllers. maybe xbox wireless can work too. testing to come.
For measuring it, the best method is to start the stopwatch and record the TV and the phone's screen with some point and shoot camera, just stop the video later after 10 seconds for example and see the difference between the times.
at least thats what i read around the net ..
MHL lag.
First, tested using timer app in phone. Took pictures containing both mobile and plasma screen.
Out of 13 shots:
0.1 s delay - 9 times
0.2 s delay - 2 times
All the rest, 1 shot had 0.1-0.3 s delay (between TV frames), another had 0 - 0.2 s delay (between TV frames again).
Second test.Used http://vimeo.com/12505989 test video.
My laptop (connected through display port->HDMI) was 100% in sync. Z1C was 2-3 frames late (on 24 fps video).
I would say, it is about 120 ms delay. And it is huge for a cable connection IMHO.
Shame, Sony, shame!!!
My other phone Galaxy S Advance did much better job with DLNA sharing.
Which means that there must be a problem with WiFi (either HW or SW).
I am really disappointed. Way too many problems with a device that was meant to be almost a flagship. I wonder if all those problems also exist with Z1 older brother as well. Or did Sony cut some corners again...
Anyone who could explain why it's necessary to switch wifi off then on again when you activate media sharing (DLNA)?
Say you sit at home, your wifi is on ofc and you like to send a pic or a track to your AVR or TV, then why does it say "please turn on wifi" when you activate media sharing...

Has anyone tried mirror op sender & mirror op presenter on the xperia z1 compact? Seems rather fast just no audio.

Hi All.
I've got a passive mhl cable (no external power needed), this: http://www.delock.de/produkte/G_83297/merkmale.html?setLanguage=un
What should I do with it to use with my Z1C? I connected them, but nothing on the tv screen . I missed something?
Thanks

[Q] Anyone using an MHL hub with the L900 Note2?

I saw one of these cool looking "MHL hub" devices for sale on eBay for between 10 and 15 dollars and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with them on the L900 Note2. I ask because I know the domestic versions of these devices often have many features locked out or missing (FM radio, tv-out, etc.).
Also, for those people who have confirmed they work, does using it just as a card reader require that external power be connected? Does using the HDMi output feature require power be connected? Can HDMi output, the card reader, and the usb slot be used simultaneously or can they only be used one at a time? Lastly, will such a unit fit a Note2 with an otterbox defender?
Thanks.

mhl/HDMi
Any updates on this?
I would guess no one has used it. What I can answer for you is that hdmi always requires power. I would think that everything would work at once (my hdmi dock hub does) like a normal usb hub. Now would it work with your case. That would depend on how much room you have when you connect usb.

So it would probably require the adapter or a usb cable hooked up to work. I can live with that, thanks for the input.

Please post (or pm me) if you get this. I'd like to know how it works for you. Had an rca adaptor for an iPhone and (like jlmancuso said) never dawned on me that I would want to make sure the phone was hooked up to a power adapter while watching a 2 hour movie. Doh...

I have bought a smart dock but It didn't work well for my phone. I then tried it on my sisters
S4 and it worked a bit better. At times it would glitch and the TV would blink on and off. I haven't tried this one yet im tempted to pull the trigger but not yet. I bought an MHL adapter which works much much better, and yesterday I finally got my bluetooth keyboard and mouse and they both work wonderfully. I haven't used them together( I dont have two sets of triple A batteries :/..)

I've read on other threads (look them up) that they work but some notice a lag when connecting the mouse and keyboard at the same time. I heard this also happens with Bluetooth mouse and keyboards. I'll try it out later today and see if I notice lag with Bluetooth items

I have the white samsung media hub with hdmi out. I use a wireless mouse/keyboard combo when streaming netflix (over wifi) and dont notice any lag (normally it kills all radio signal).

It is an official one but it sits right between my monitor and wifi router also right above my cpu. Every blue moon it has signal but normally it does not. Since I have multiple clones I just turn on another in case I get a call or text.

Everything running at once hdmi, mouse, keyboard, and usb drive all at once. Kinda need at least a mouse (on official media hub anyways) cause the phones screen turns off. The digitizer still functions but kinda difficult with no display.
