Hi, I have had a kindle fire for quite some time now. It has been rooted etc as well. I used KFU/burritto root and flashed Modaco gr8. It is version 6.3.
I am trying to install go keyboard by transferring go-keyboard.apk to the system/app folder. In the past I have been able to do this. Now it wont let me. I tried ES File Explorer and File Expert. The device is 100% rooted as checked by KFU. Am i missing something.
Thanks in advance for the help.
yeah try mounting it read/write instead of read only I use root explorer it will ask for permission at first launch at the top theres an option to mount the system read/write

I am trying to use clock work mod to instal custom rom.... I am running the latest ics release rooted and unlock...
you need to download root explorer
then go to "/etc"
then click "Mount R/W" on the top of the screen,
and then delete install-recovery.sh
What is the question?
If you ARE rooted you need to install a file manager (Ex. Root Explorer), set R/W and either delete or Rename the file. Suggest you simply rename by adding a .bak to the end of it.
Once this is complete flash the recovery image through fastboot.
BTW .. you could have posted this in the Clockwork thread and the instructions I gave above are already there.
Edit: LOL ... I must type too slow. In 7 minutes you got three identical answers.
Need to be 100% rooted n a root explorer

Make sure you mount the system as r/w.
New to all this so proceeding slow and cautiously. Recently rooted my Acer A100 with ota ICS installed. When trying to swap SD card and internal memory using Crossix directions I ran into an error msg that I haven't seen posted by anyone. The only difference I can find is his directions recommend using Root Explorer and I am currently using Root Browser Lite. Anyway when I go to rename install-recovery.sh to .bak it says Root Browser Lite is granted Superuser access but the operation fails. I looked at the Permissions for the file and they are rwxr--r-- I tried to change the Permissions to rwxrwxrwx and got an error msg that said "Changing permissions was not successful. Please note that some file systems do not allow permission changes." Would using Root Explorer change anything? Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Sounds like a root issue, try rebooting, opening superuser first then try.... unless you already put the file there and permissions aren't correct, that will brick you! If you already did force close super user. Remember if all else fails you can use Adb.

Its because /system is a partition, not a directory, so you have to mount the partition r/w to get it in the folders and files on it.

Hey so I just bought my nephew a kindle fire 2nd gen and am a little jealous that he has swype. is there any way to get it on my 1st gen? I am rooted and have it so that I can click my little clover icon and go to go launcher and have the android market place but I did that when the fire first came out and then havent participated in the forums since so Im really behind on all the terminology and stuff here so cant find what im looking for.
I still want my kindle to be a kindle so I dont want to flash a rom over top of it or anything like that I would just basically like to update it to 2nd gen stuff
thanks
How?

Every File Explorer I have tried says it does not have permission to copy Swype to system/app.
I have tried es file explorer, anttek file manager, file explorer, and file manager.
What one did you use?

Wait... Have you rooted your Fire?
Root Explorer is the best and it gets the job done quickly. You may have to shell out a few dollars though. It can be found easily on Amazon's Android AppStore.

I have not rooted my Kindle Fire. I also use 1Mobile Market as well as Amazon Appstore.
Would it be possible to move Swype and change the permissions using a computer?

No! Absolutely not! The /system partition on the internal memory of your device is not considered userspace. You need to have admin or root privileges to do that.
If you have ever used a Linux PC before, you will notice that to install an app, you have to type in
sudo apt-get install x

Over here, sudo asks the system admin for permission before it can make changes to the system. On Android, rooting is similar, but is easily managed through an app.
Rooting is a very simple process, and I can guarantee you that nothing will happen to your KF.

The methods worked for both my son's running 10.2.4. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1923642, but not for my nieces running 10.2.6. I have searched multiple threads and tried with no luck just wondering if anyone knows another way, thanks

Can you be more specific? When you attempted to rename the file, was it there? Did you encounter any errors? Was the device rooted? Did you check the filesystem to see if the .apk was actually renamed? Have you rebooted the device? If so, did you confirm whether or not the change took effect?

The KF2 needs to be rooted AND the System partition needs to be mounted as RW. I use ES File Manager. In the settings, there are options to enable root explorer and mount system as RW.

Thanks for the reply guys fortunately she decided to go with powerpoints ROM so that's good. Just in case someone else has the same issue here is what Ive done, rooted the device, enabled root explorer and mount system as rw in es file explorer, changed name and it stayed even after rebooting, I changed the permissions to all blank, rebooted no luck. Never encountered any errors. Thank you again for the response!

Reason it's saying that is because that *.obb file isn't put where it needs to go, so it wants to download it, and thinks it's not paid for.
I don't know the location on the AFTV as my ES File Explorer won't get off the SDCard. But it's generally ../android/obb directory.
Also, you need to copy the *.obb file over before installing the *.apk file, or it will error out with the same error.
Thanks for response. I tried that but didnt work. Here's my location of where the OBB file is
\Xperia Tablet Z\Internal storage\Android\obb\com-lego-fusion-townmaster

hmm, okay. Well, I'm getting my usb stick tomorrow and will have to deal with this myself, so give me a few days and maybe I'll have an answer for you.
Great! Hope you can figure this out. Thanks again
okay, what I have found out so far is that the obb directory is /sdcard/Android/obb and I needed to turn on root access in es file to see it.
Copying the directory of stuff into there, and then you install the *.apk
If you installed the *.apk first, then uninstall it, then copy the stuff over, then install it.
Should work for most stuff, but I haven't played with it much. Been busy.
Was really hard to find at first, the location. But I didn't have root enabled in es file.
Where did you find it?
Where did you get this obb file I've search the internet for it and all I get is this same exact post on 20 different website's.
Thanks
