Anyone here that has owned a capacitive touch screen, please feel free to chime in with which screen protector you liked the most!
Im looking to buy a protector that doesn't impede the touch experience & image quality of this amazing screen.
Also a warning against bad brands would be appreciated. I Believe Zagg/Invisi shield has already been established as a bad buy.
As another discouraged zagg user, I recommend buying cheap packs off of ebay. They usually are smooth and clear, but they get damaged every 1 or 2 months for me, but that's no problem as they were cheap and I just put a new one on. All the expensive ones seem to have a problem with clarity or feel, but if anyone else has a suggestion I would like to know too.
I'm going to wait for gadgetshieldz to come out with one. They may be coming from India, but their customer service is actually good when I needed another front screen skin for my Tilt 2 because the cut was slightly off. They mailed me an entire full body set within no time. Plus they're reeeeally cheap (Tilt 2 full body set was 6.99 - some discount percentage that was floating around) and lasted me almost the entire lifespan of my phone (Switched from Zagg).
Ok, but how does it feel? Is it smooth to swype as the glass screen beneath it? Clarity?
I use BodyGuardz for all of my phones (started with iPhone 3g -> Blackberry 8900 -> Blackberry 9700) and have not had a problem with them. Did not affect the touch capabilities of my iPhone 3G and kept the screen nice and new underneath.

I haven't used it on a capacitive screen, so I wouldn't know how it actualyl performs. But it's a lot smoother than the Zagg shields I've had before on the phone and iPods and such. The screen protector on my Tilt2 looked great, didn't skew the image at all. I eventually had to take it off though because resistive touch screen + skin = bleh. Pending user installation, you can hardly tell it's there.
nice, ill deff look into bodyguard n gadget shield. next question is, should i put the film all over my phone or just get a case n only use a shield on the screen.
guess what im sayin is: Is the film covering the screen and body enough? id really rather not add the bulk of a full blown case to my device.
p.s. heres another site with protectors that someone vouched for here
http://www.bestskinsever.com/
I started with Zagg, but have moved to BodyGuardz for my last 3 devices. They are the same quality, but for the same price as 1 Zagg sheild, you get two (2) BodyGaurdz protectors.
Currently using BodyGaurdz on the following products with no problems to report:
HTC Tilt 2 (Touch Pro 2)
HCT Pure (Wife's Phone)
Zune HD
soon on the Samsung Captivate
The real question is when will SwitchEasy-like devices come out that snap around the phone, like what the iPhone has???
is switch easy the ones that are relatively thick? Also, no one offered any insight yet on my question, do you think a case is necessary or will just a film covering over the phone be enough? I really like how sleek this phone looks and dont really want to add to its dimensions.
All I know is I had accidentally thrown my iPhone into some pavement and without the switch easy case, it would've been SOL.
Just look at their website. The cases fit like a glove and are very seamlined (They are not big and bulky like otterbox)
wow those cases look amazing. i would purchase something like this in a heartbeat for the captivate. its not thick, it holds the phone together great, and it looks comfy on the hands. Ima shoot them a letter requesting a skin for the att captivate. maybe if more people do they will consider it. So far it looks like they are only doing iProducts cases tho.
Here's a link:
http://www.switcheasy.com/
if anyone knows of a company that does cases similar to this and support a wider range of products, plz post it here.
Yea, they're awesome cases. They protect it great but don't add a ton of bulk.
They're i-Product only though, as you found out. That's why I was asking if anyone knew of something similar here.

I've had their antiglare protectors on all my phones, great for capacitive touch. I'll probably NOT go antiglare on the Captivate because you do loose some picture quality with the antiglare. $13ish for a single one, $25 or so for a 3 pack. That site also has a lot of other nice cheap accessories, like cables/chargers etc. I have on of their cases on my ipod though and don't care for it. Just don't like neoprene style cases.
wait what? You probably will go with antiglare because you lose some picture quality? This seems counter productive.
i know thats probably not what you meant to say. I'm hoping what you meant to say is that you wouldnt go anti glare? idk

Hi,
Is the Capacitative screen of this phone is scratch resistant like iPhone? I was able to use my iPhone for 2years without getting a scratch on screen. I am awaiting my phone in mail, was thinking of buying accesories...
Thank you
I won't be getting a protector for mine. As long as you are careful, you'll be fine.
Even people with ocd make mistakes. Get the case from att and a screen protector. Protect your investment. Trust me.

Very true. And that whole scratch protector is kinda a lie. You can see pics/vids where the iPhone screen is pretty scratched.
No offense to anyone posting on this topic but I do not understand the purchase of accessories from AT&T or any other provider store. Items for these phones can be purchased significantly cheaper from online.
I bought a box of cut-to-size screen protectors for $5 from amazon and it has lasted our family through several phones and replacements. Touch screen function is not hindered and clarity is perfectly fine.
Though I use screen protectors, I do not believe in phone cases. I feel a phone is built to fit the users hand and cases add unwanted bulk that I don't like. Accidents do happen but in most situations you will cause no more than cosmetic damage. Use some sense when handling your phone and it should last until your next.
I remember recently having a "discussion" with my wife as to why she paid more to get a white iphone and then put a case on it. This baffled me to the point of agitation and I had to drop the conversation.
If really concerned, just get insurance through your provider or home insurance company. At least until the phone price drops after the next big release.
Thanks
Thanks for the replies, will be getting a case any way, still thinking of screen protector...

QFT on all that. I bought like 6 from Ebay China for like $1 and they work better than Apple's $10 ones.

That's a calculated risk.
Is spending $5/mo with a $50 deductible worth it versus spending $30 for a case???
You obviously have not used any good cases. Not all cases are like Otterbox and add half a pound to the weight and an inch to the thickness... SwitchEasy was my favorite when I had my iPhone. Waiting for something similar on the Captivate now.
I'm debating this as well.
I got the body glove case from att and a pack of screen protectors. The att rep put it on for me bubble free. I keep the case on when i am out and take it off at my desk at work. The phone is beautiful. The screen protector is more finger friendly and shows no smudges.
Definitely get a screen protector. Accidents happen, no matter how careful you are. And I would suggest a body glove of some type, again, accidents happen.
What brand of screen protector do you guys recommend?

aaaaaaaaahhhhhaha white iphone with a case. i lol'd. women eh?
with ur statement on bulk, get one with a minimalistic design. a case not only protect ur phone but look sexy too. if you scratch a case you can replace it hangin on to that sex appeal. scratch a phone and ur sol. Also good condition is important for resale
oh but if ur really against cases just get one like leather case that you only keep it in while ur not using it
Case:
I understand both sides. I guess "accidentally" putting my phones through more punishment than I thought they would endure has given me excess confidence in their physical design. I am a fan of the "phone pocket" now in most jeans and cargo pants. It is comfortable and easy to grab (also stays low to the ground). I would like to take some advice and get a nice case but I guess my wife's iPhone cases have already left me disapproving and I hate to add bulk, but maybe I'll try again. I'll admit the Captivate is a bit "smooth."
Screen Protector:
There is not to much to argue about here. I wouldn't worry about brand.
1. Does it stick to the screen?
2. Is it clear?
3. Does it fit?
If you answer YES to all three of these then it is a good screen protector.
If you answer NO to any one of these questions, KEEP SHOPPING.
I'll take a look later to see what brand the box is I have at home so I can post it.
Slim but durable cases are possible. Just very few companies put forth the effort to engineer one.
Switch Easy, they only make for iProducts but when I had my 3GS it was great. A thin rubber around the outside (protect it from shocks and also keeps the case itself from scratching it), then you snap a horizontal then a vertical case that form into one hard case... It was very thin (nothing like the bulk of an Otterbox), yet I think you could have thrown it across the room and the phone been fine.
I recommend the invisibleShield by Zagg. Had one on my iphone and totaled out a work van by flipping it with the phone sitting on the dash. Was one single mark on the iphone screen and it came off when I put a new Shield on it. I was impressed. It feels a bit rubbery for a screen protector at first but never noticed any impedance with touch sensitivity. Costs a bit more then normal protectors as well but again well worth it if you ask me.
Just got home and looked at the protectors I have. The brand is WRITERIGHT (universal screen protectors)
A set of 10 was dirt cheap ($3) and I have been using them for about 2 years. They are cut-to-fit and will cover the entire face of the captivate.

hello all. first post on here. just got my captivate last saturday and still waiting for martin fields to make a screen protector for this phone. they are a lil pricey, but totally worth it.
Well when I picked up my Captivate, I picked up the Body Glove Silicone Case from ATT because I prefer to keep any new devices in a silicone/gel style case for some protection. My sister and mom picked up the Captivate after they played with mine on Sunday *7-19-2010* and called me last night to set up my mom's phone and install a screen protector *3x for $ 9.99 at the corporate att store in my area*, for installing the sp and transfering the contacts *manually* and setting up gmail, I got a SP for free for my captivate for 15 minuets worth of work. Not too bad and I am a little more less worried then the last 2 days..
HTH,

Wow, 16 replies and not one answer to the original question about the Glass.
Many devices like Microsoft Zunes have a special hardened Glass, you can use keys, knives, razor blades etc to it and not scratch them. If a screen protector makes you warm and fuzzy go for it, but if this device (I don't yet know what Glass it has) has "that" Glass then its a waste of money. It's going to take a hell of a hit to break it, and a sceen protector wont prevent that.
You can read about such glass here:
http://www.anythingbutipod.com/archives/2009/04/glass-screen-durability-test-a-lesson-on-the-mohs-hardness-scale.php
I ran a screen protector on my HTC Hermes for years, and hated it. Finally removed it last year and love it. And no scratches. (Case has flip cover for when its in your pocket) A lot more depends on how you treat it. I have 4 sons, 2 of them seem to destroy electronics, 2 of them don't.

If your like me you don't like to trust cheap plastic crap to protect your $600 phone, Thats why I have been researching which holsters work with the Vibrant since T-mobile doesn't make a good one themselves. If you have a Silicon skin on your Vibrant then I recommend the holster intended for the Droid X that is linked here http://www.usosmart.com/Motorola_Droid_X_Shell_Holster_Combo_p/vzmotxshc.htm
If you don't have a skin on your phone then I recommend the holster intended for the Droid Incredible linked here
http://www.usosmart.com/Verizon_HTC_Droid_Incredible_Shell_Holster_Combo_p/vzhtcincshc.htm This holster is a tiny bit too small so its a great fit
The Holster/shell combo intended for the Samsung Fascinate might also work for the Vibrant if you have a skin/shell, Link is here
http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/accessory?action=accessoryDetails&archetypeId=12283&page=1
I am working on getting pictures for all these holster with the Vibrant fitted inside them.
Why not put the 2 hands in front of you to work and make a vastly superior product that fits perfectly ?
Because every holster I have seen specifically for the Vibrant sucks. There are however some good Skins for it but no holsters I have seen that work with the skin on, Thus the reason for this thread.

So.... not only do your hands not work, your eyes are suspect too ?
Haha... too funny.
Unfortunately, I find that most people have no concept of what it means to create.
Nice holster n2ishun!
I don't think the fascinate one will work because of the bump on the back of the Vibrant right? I was wondering the same thing about the fascinate cases since there seems to be better ones for that (especially Seidio). Anyone try a Fascinate specific case on a Vibrant yet?

I used to carry my G1 in a case designed for a wing. Now my Vibrant with a Case like the Barely There fits in it.

Sure, I'll just go ahead an fire up my 3d printer and 3d scanner and make a case that a large company can't even make. This thread is for people who like to adapt and modify existing hardware, If you don't like it then go away. Actually, let me ask you a question first, Why would you come in a thread specifically about using another phones holster with the vibrant, Then show a case made for it and then act like a ***** because our opinions about exsisting products differ? I don't like universal cases and I personaly think yours is ugly because I dislike leather/suede. EDIT:I found a post in another thread where you said you made that case and if you really did, good job, its not my style but good job.
egrims, I tested the fascinate holster/shell I linked to, The shell won't fit the vibrant but the holster does although its a little loose, If you have a silicon skin on your vibrant it should fit perfectly. As I stated above I am working on getting pictures for all the holsters I mention.
I tried my buddies fascinate combo holster from vzw. It fits pretty snug but the speaker is covered because the fascinate speaker is on the bottom portion of the back. And the camera is covered a tad but pics come out fine.
Sent from my fingers on my SAMOLED screen using XDA App
kentot, Are you talking about the case/holster I linked to in the original post or the one thats just a holster? That one would work if the Vibrant didn't have the "chin" , If you put the vibrant in the case I think your referring to and shake it to simulate running it will fall out cause the bottom isn't held in.
Vibrant in Fascinate combo case from VZW
Yes I am talking about that case. Attached are pics of my Vibrant in the case for the Fascinate. (pics taken by Fascinate)
As you can see the case is pretty snug and will not fall out if shaken, Which I have tested... Vigorously.... LOL
The back shot shows how the speaker is covered and the camera lens is partly covered.
Edit: Bad focus job by me but at least you get the idea
I thought you were referring to a different case then the one I linked. There is a "snap-in" Verizon case for the fascinate that won't work for the reasons I previously stated, basicly it doesn't snap in and any fast movements cause it to fall out
I had a T-Mobile leather holster/belt-clip case for my G1 and the Vibrant fit perfectly into it, a little tight with the T-Mobile gel-skin on it, but it fit all the same. That holster finally fell apart last week and I'm looking for a new one. The universal one that T-Mobile now stocks is too small to take the Vibrant with its gel-skin on.
I'm hoping that Best Buy or someone will have a universal holster that'll take it.
Just a little update
So I got my holster for the Droid Incredible a few days ago and I gotta say I love it. The Vibrant fits in there extremely well and its so snug it won't fall out basicly for any reason so long as the phone is in the holster with the screen face out, With the screen face in the holster isn't snug enough for the phone and it unfortunitly could fall out. Hopefully Otterbox makes a Vibrant case soon and it doesn't make the phone twice as big like with the iPhone cases.
I bought this one:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002Q4AJR2
It came in the other day. It fits the phone perfectly with my gel skin on. And, it was CHEAP.
The quality is great, I can't actually find anything bad to say about it.

the BlackBerry Storm fit prefectly
If you have purchased Screen Protectors off Ebay (or anywhere), post a link, a pic, and whether you like them or not.
I bought:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280665594632
-They are ok, I've had better.
-They have the three step approach (take 1 cover off, stick it down, take 2nd cover off.)
-The holes for speaker and sensor don't line up properly. I'll take a pic at some point
After a few hours use I can safely say the above screen protectors are terrible. you just have to run your fingernail across them and they scratch. I will be asking for a refund for sure.
The Savvies Screen protectors (ebay - 180660459805) are also terrible. The cuts for the home button, speaker and front camera dont match up.
i go one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-x-LCD-SCREEN-PROTECTOR-SAMSUNG-I9100-GALAXY-S-II-/270726135062?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item3f0888fd16
Seems pritty good apart from the camera hole is slightly off. Waxed it as well as it wasnt very slippy. No scratches and you can hardly tell its there apart from the 1 bubble
Stay away from the savvy one. It's a ****ty screen protector ! does not fit at all !
The Vikuiti ones (both the ADQC27 & DQC160) ordered from DISAGU via Amazon, do not fit properly I'm afraid.
The ones I purchased were just a fraction too long and so would have to overlap the bezel slightly, which would be unsightly (air pocket) and not make for a particularly secure fit.
Here's hoping SGP decide to make their Oleophobic ones for the i9100...

bad fit on FFC, means the protector has to be angled to line up with the home button... even if it was straight, theres a good 1-2mm gap around the protector and tbh i don't think i'd bother unless the protector was flush to the end or at least 0.5mm or less gap...
I had a HTC branded protector on my Hero and it was a perfect fit... anyone know if Samsung do the same? or did for the SGS etc??

Fit is usually excellent with the SGP ones and then inclusion of a Camera lens protector is a nice addition.
However the Oleophobic qualities aren't especially obvious.
Another thing to note though --an email reply from SGP a couple of days ago indicated that they hadn't yet decided whether to offer an SGS2 accessories yet.
Assuming they do, given the popularity of this model, we may be in for a bit of a wait.

Very odd, as I receive the following from the SGPstore a few days ago.
I guess SGP and the SGPstore aren't joined at the hip.
"Thank you for contacting SGPstore.com Customer Service Department.
Hi, my name is Lynn from SGPstore.com.
We are still deciding whether we are going to have products for Samsung Galaxy S II.
Please stay tuned with us and check our website."
ExportPrive are a legit site, in so far as they will send out the goods.
However, I had a bad experience with them a few months ago where they sent me the incorrect leather SGS1 case.
3 months later, despite promises, they still hadn't refunded.
I had to contact my CC provider to claim the funds back in the end.

Yeah, I've bought my SGS1 case + screen protector before from them. They did deliver the goods. So, unless the products I got are fakes, otherwise, they are legit.
I was researching some options for my friends Tmo GS2 and i stumbled upon PowerSkin, which seems like the SLIMMEST alternative for extended battery life and its a CASE at the same time!! The way it works is that the case has a built-in battery that would give an extra 1500 mAh that connects to the usb port and it charges like an external battery only that it is attached to the back of your phone and you have a toggle button for whenever you want it to start or stop charging. If you need to charge it or connect to PC, you would have to use the port that comes with the case. The extra mAh brings our ET4G's up to 3350 mAh and the phone doesnt nearly look as horrendous or bulky as our previous options (seidio, hyperion, etc)
Only one issue though: there's no ET4G-specific case. Well according to this guy:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...h-extended-battery-protective-case-combo.html
our phone is identical in make and shape to the Skyrocket and it fit and worked perfectly for him.
Anyone confirm? Will anyone bite? It's $79.99 at your local AT&T store or here:

EDIT: its garbage. let it die
Have you seen how much bulk they add. Makes the phone as fat as a HTC G1. Eeewwww. No thanks . I'm tell in ya it's huge.
I picked up a killer bodyglove case on ebay for $13. Simple, thin, and kickstand for horizontal and vertical use. Sides do not intrude on the display space as well which is a biggy for me. There is a really cool and cheap case on ebay in like 50 colors but it puts a wall around the display.
This Bglove case is Perfect!

I did some research today. The tmobile galaxy s2 is not the same as ours. Some of the differences are: the battery is slightly longer and has nfc in it and is 1850ma, it is ever so slightly slimmer (case was just a hair too small for my phone), the mic is right next to the micro usb port. I didn't get to see in person the att skyrocket but it has the 1850 battery (I'm assuming the same as the s2), the speaker in the back is on the opposite side. Anything else I don't know about that one. I saw in person, the powerskin for the galaxy s2. It is very true the material of the case is crappy. It's rubber like and pretty flimsy. Imagine a snorkel mask silicon where the back of the head strap is. Make it thicker and slightly stiffer and that's what the top part of the case feels like. They should have made it out of similar material as the moxie juice pack cases, if you've ever seen one. It's firm plastic but it wouldn't snap if you bent it. Being a two piece slider case with firm rubber like plastic would be much better. It was a huge mistake to make the micro usb port on the outside of the case for charge only and not sync. It was another mistake to make the plug inside the case, that goes into the bottom phone port, on a wire and not molded into the case. It seems like a good idea but poor execution. I read reviews of the powerskin for the nexus s and people thought it was crappy quality and made the phone very thick. I'll pass on this one. I didn't even try to fit it on my phone since their firm "gel" plastic cases were just barely too small for the edges that go over the outside if the screen wouldn't fully come up and over the top of the glass.
Still today people can't tell that theres a big different between our E4GT and other Galaxy SII. SIZE DIFFERET, YOU DUMB PHUCC Original GS2 case or any other HARDWARE will not FIT our Epic 4G Touch.

Haha, UMAD?
lol okay.
yang704:
1) im talking about the AT&T SKYROCKET not the Int'l version. look it up, foo.
2) its the most similar GS2 to our ET4G aside from the speaker and camera layout.
3) its an external battery pack that charges from the usb port, thus it will "FIT our Epic 4G Touch".
