[Q] What happened to CWM radios? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

A little bit ago CWM had a really convenient 'ICS radios'. This is now gone. Anyone know why or if it's coming back?
Jeff

What? You can Google for radios and find the thread here on XDA.

I can find the radios fine. That doesn't answer my question.

What are you even asking? CWM is your recovery. It doesn't have anything minus what's on your phone.

Yeah sorry about that. ROM manager premium had an item under download ROM that was a direct download for all the ICS radios. It was there for a couple months now it's gone. When I was running SGS I remember seeing it but since I got a GN no.
Long night last night .....................

ROM Manager is different for every device. It might not just be there for the Nexus. You shouldn't use ROM Manager for installing anything anyways.. just download them off of XDA and install them. Just as easy and probably safer.

Especially in the radios department.
Rom manager has a habit of saying it successfully flashed something even if it had errors...and you boot into CWM for a split second and don't get a chance to see if it threw any errors.

BINGO!

Thanks all no more Rom Mgr for flashing. On a related note I downloaded the top 4 new radios from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405345&highlight=at%26t and apparently (to me it sounds unlikely) smoked my SIM during a flash.
I can receive but not send SMS on my GN but putting my daughters SIM in my GN works and my SIM in an AT&T SGS2 won't work. Is this something that can happen when you're flashing radios or is this is one time freak occurrence?

Did you play around with the phone settings in *#*#info#*#* menu? If so, you probably messed up you smsc number. Follow the guide here to fix: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/SMSC_Updates

Thanks efrant!!!!! I totally forgot that I went into that to see status of the radio and hit 'update' without knowing that I was zeroing out my smsc number.

[ODIN] Stock DJ20

This should help a few people out. Thanks to dfgged, we now have stock Odin files. There has been minimal testing of these, but they do in fact work to help recover. It won't fix everything, but if you had to go back to stock for warranty reasons, this would be better than having a really messed up ROM. Currently, I only have the System and Kernel. Both are untouched, minus the System dump being rooted, which was required to get the dump. Flash in Odin via the PDA button. I will also work on getting the rest of the usable images posted, and will post a CWM flashable package for stock, stock deodexed, and debloated then as well for DJ20.
System
Kernel
So I flashed dl09 followed by both above and I'm still stuck at the Samsung screen...wtf?
If you have a Fascinate, why did you flash these files? If you have a Continuum, why did you flash DL09?

The only thing that is confirmed to work as far as going from the Fascinate to the Continuum are the radios. If you get a botched up baseband, you can flash a Fascinate radio to a Continuum (and probably the other way if we had Continuum radios, but we don't), but that is the only thing that is cross-compatible that I've seen. Maybe you could get most of a ROM to work as well, but you'd loose your softkeys as well as the ticker functionality if you didn't have the proper framework files.

I just searched the entire Continuum sub-forum, and there is no mention anywhere that DL09 from the Fascinate works on the Continuum. The only thing I found close was mention that the DL09 baseband works, but there is no mention of anyone using DL09 on their Continuum. I even searched at Android Central and Android Forums, and no one anywhere has flashed a full DL09 that is recorded at XDA/AC/AF.

Edit: You and I actually talked about it through pm.
Flashing the modem doesn't cause the phone to stop booting, so something else is likely the problem.

hi everyone..
having an issue with this recovery...i have used this file twice before to recover the wife's continuum.. however last night it wouldn't work.. meaning, it flashes in ODIN just fine, gives me "success" however when the phone reboots, nothing has flashed and it is exactly the same as before flashing..
i have red cwm on the phone, and have tried clearing everything (cache, dalvik, data/factory reset, mounted all partitions and wiped those) i also tried flashing the kernel which seemed to work.. however it still will not reset to factory.. i used the same file i have on my computer that worked 2x before, and even re-downloaded the one posted here and tried that as well.. nothing..
it appears for some reason the phone accepts the connection and/or files, but won't "run" them if that makes any sense...
i also have 2 nandroid backups that i tried to restore, which is the factory setup..and it hangs at the samsung logo (i gave up after 20 mins and pulled battery) .. and the second nandroid takes me to the deodexed/basic rom that was built here.. which works but has issues..
im trying to get back to complete stock.. i have also tried using superoneclick to unroot, but the program gives me an "error 22" when pushing rage, and locks up..
i have tested adb, and it will connect to phone, but NOTHING can be pushed or pulled using the commands..
im lost here.. anyone have any ideas?

thanks for the reply sir..
i did not convert to voodoo...however i will check that in the voodoo section just to be certain its not toggled..im very familiar with voodoo, as i ran it on my fascinate for a long time .. i am using factory cable as well.. i will edit the post if it comes to fruition that it did..i never flashed a kernel - unless the one with the ROM here was voodoo..but i dont remember hearing sexy lady telling me anything when i flashed it
this is SO frustrating..it worked 2x before.. im assuming something is borked with r/w somewhere..but i havent a clue where to look to change it..
it boots to blue recovery, run update.zip to red..
under mounts and storage (that i cleared all on before) it currently reads all mounted except /dbdata which is unmounted..
Lmao, sexy lady...

Request for Virgin Mobile Stock

Hello all,
So I bought my HTC Wildfire S Virgin Mobile on black friday like everybody else. I waited a few days and then rooted. And then I had the brilliant idea to try installing the CM 7.1 Mod for it. And well, I didn't do a Clockwork Backup, and well, it didnt work very well. The phone got stuck on the HTC screen. So finally I installed a different ROM, JikantaruROM, and I managed to get past the bootscreen but I can't use my carrier anymore. So I was wondering if anybody could either tell me how to flash CM 7.1 Unoffical release to my phone, or if anybody knew a way I could get back to the original Virgin Mobile software. It seems that you have all the other stock roms, so I would REALLY appreciate if someone could share the Virgin Mobile rom too.
Thanks in advance,
Wieland959
Seconded. Although I think mine is in a slightly worse case; I kept flashing roms and ended up in a state where it turns on, screen remains black, then the phone vibrates three times and evidently does nothing. So Wieland959, I'd advise you to stop flashing until someone posts the ROM.
And if someone could let me know how to recover from my current state, I'd very much appreciate it.

Your in the same boat I was just in. My solution was to go back to radioshack with the receipt and tell them it just turned off and wouldnt turn back on. Just doing the 3 vibrations. I did spend hours trying to search about how to fix it, but I dont think theres a way unless you use a jtag hookup and some sort of fancy programmer.
@Wieland959, If you want. I just tried to do the OTA update through the settings on the phone itself. It would let me download the file(I believe it should be flashable through the cwm recovery), but when I tried to let the phone install the file, I would get the android with the exclamation mark after the reboot. Ill try to post here, if it will upload. But......
DISCLAIMER!!!!
I take no responsibility for anyone damaging their phone using the file here. This file, as far as I know, should only work with the Wildfire S Virgin Mobile USA CDMA model A510C as this is the phone the file was downloaded from.
Thank you for the file, but I couldn't flash it. What might work though, if you are willing is, if you have rooted your phone, to make a cwm backup and upload that here. From there I should be able to recover and then factory wipe my phone. But thank you anyways for the file. I will keep kicking until the phone doesn't boot.
How are you planning on restoring from backup if the phone doesn't even boot?
Sorry, I'm new to this...

Okay. I managed to boot my phone and am able to send/receive texts. The rom I used? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367701] It seems to work pretty well. However, I would still like to have the original rom if someone could still upload it.
VM USA Stock Clockwork Backup
Well, I don't know much about stuff like this, but here is my clockwork mod recovery backup. It's just the stock VM USA w/HTC Sense. I have realized that I deleted the bloatware, so that's the only thing that isn't 100% stock. Hope it helps.
*Unzip the file before placing on you sd card. (Contains the clockwork folder, which contains the backup folder, and then the folder that contains the backup itself.)*

Thanks for the backup! It worked perfect for me!
would you mind if i posted the link on another forum? i know of a couple people looking for a backup aswell.
You should be able to switch back with the recovery no problem. Correct me if I'm wrong, but to install boot into recovery, install from SD, select specific, and select the zip of the rom. Also, I don't have my phone on me so the wording might be a little different.
MMS is a known issue with the rom from what I've read. I don't have it installed personally.
@brandonhun, Thank you so much. You're a life saver. As far as the rom goes, it still have sense on it and there are tons of MMS errors. So just wait and eventually something will pop up.

I haven't done this ROM change but if its the stock HTC Sense go to personalize and get HTC widgets (perhaps its get more HTC widgets) and you should find an update to the clock widget. That should give you the original clock plus a bunch more new ones.

Download mode - Odin will only recognize when phone is booted up

I am at my wits end right now. I can see my phone on com3 when it is booted up all the way, but it will not see it when in download mode. I erroneously flashed this file earlier, forgetting I did not have a regular GSII: I9100_APBOOT_I9100XXKP2_CL17109_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5
What other information would help diagnose this problem?
I currently have stock EL26 installed.
Alternatively, is it safe to install CM9 from this recovery? Seems to me I should resolve this first..
edit: I do not have an unrecognized device, I have tried more than one usb cable and port
Try this:
Redownload the drivers for the phone, install them and let your cpu reset. See if Odin sees your phone then.
I know with my GT10.1 it takes a few seconds more for Odin to see it so... But my ET4G pops up pretty fast.
The EL26/CWM is the kernel/recovery that you want to use when your flashing CM9 Alfa 5 and below.
But like you said... You may want to figure out why Odin isn't seeing your phone when it's in download mode.
Also... Do you have Kies installed on your cpu??? It'll cause problems with Odin to.
Have you tried Mobile Odin for what you want to do. I do almost everything involving CM and flashing with it. Works like a charm.

Yeah I ****ed up, I have not messed with my phone in many months.
Edit: driver reinstall did not work, do not have kies installed. mobile odin works on GB then? I can use the e4gt-autofix if that makes a difference. Updating from the stock recovery does not seem to work, it will start, then give me the ! triangle with sad android.

Unfortunately my friend, I think you are hosed. The international PIT file is exceptionally different from the one we use for our phone. I don't remember the specifics but basically it remaps your partitions and causes USB to not work correctly. Your best bet is to try a JTAG service. I've heard MobileTechVideos.com is pretty well rated.
Sorry!
My phone is currently functioning properly when booted up. What are the implications of this beyond not being able to change roms (and not having a notification bar..wtf)?
Edit: ok I take it back, mass storage is not working either. also, I am definitely willing to buy Mobile Odin if anyone has any ideas.

Not getting on you m8 but... Flashing a rom for another device even if it's the same model is really really bad. Like rwilco said, yes the International GS2 and our ET4G's are the same devices but there software is very different.

Well... Like you said, most likely you will not be able to make any changes as in roms, kernels or things like that. And if you have any hardware issue you won't be able to get any support from Sprint. And you sure as hell won't be able to receive any OTA's from Sprint or Samsung.
Can you do something for use... Go to "Settings" then "About Phone" and under "Model Number" & "Baseband Version" and tell us what it says there.
I'm not really sure this would/can help you but if your phone still boots and runs you maybe able to Odin the right tar file and see if that fixes it. I mean it could work but I really doubt it. And what's the worst that could happen... It could brick it, then you could file an insurance claim... Just saying...
Where did you get the file from that you flashed??? Most likely not from this (ET4G) forum, should have read up a bit more before you started messing around with flashing roms again. Some things aren't easily fixable.

This is telling me that your on an older baseband... I'm running CM9 and my baseband reads "EL29" which I think is the most resent/updated baseband. I don't want to scare you but I really wish a dev would jump in here and shed some of there wisdom. (I'm almost to the point where I'm winging it.) But I feel we need to get your baseband to EL29.

There are 2 different versions... One will wipe everything and one will leave all of your user data intact.
And like I said, I'm not a 100% sure this will fix it but I think we are moving in the right direction.
And not a problem... It's helping me learn more about what goes on inside our devices.
I am still a little worried about your bootloader though. If that was jacked up by flashing the wrong rom I don't know if this will fix it.
Question, when you hook up your device to your cpu when it's booted up are you still able to do things like transfer files and such???

EL29 was the last version of Gingerbread put out. You'll be able to use mobile Odin to flash stuff but you'll never get the USB to recognize in DL mode. I think jtag might be the only way to restore complete functionality.
---------- Post added at 11:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:36 PM ----------
For now you'll be alright as long as you can get into recovery mode fine then you can flash modems in there(since mobile Odin can't flash them for our phone).
Your baseband (modem) should not matter and changing it won't have any affect on your problem. Good luck and let us know how out turns out.
Solved
I am posting now in case someone comes upon this post down the road.
I am now running cyanogen 9 on my e4gt. This thread saved me, as I was finally able to get odin to work. With that, I was able to flash a new recovery onto my phone (I used StockCWM-EL26). Then once I got that on there I flashed over to the Beta 1 build of Cyanogenmod for e4gt.
I'm sorry I can't be more clear or provide links, it took me a lot of crawling around the forums to figure this out. Perhaps someone more knowledgeable than I can clean up/expand my post. Let me tell you though, it feels really good to get this thing running smoothly again.
If you have any questions I'll try to help.

See - the thing is (if you read up on the issue) the problem happens on ANY phone - running ANY rom - and VARIOUS radios ... so doing the thread nazzi thing really doesn't help, as the issue is prevelant across the board. If that's not bad enough, god forbid you start a new thread because again ... the thread nazzis jump out of the woodwork and (seemingly gleefully) post all the different posts where it's already been discussed. Well yea, that's because there is no magic silver bullet. I've got the issue, and I'm not going to bother saying what rom or radio or kernel I'm using, or how many cashes I've wiped or permissions I've fixed, because I've already run thru all those gymnastics. So you see, it cam be just as frustrating having to keep reading about the problem again & again, as it is trying to walk on egg shells to find a cure, in the exact right thread, in the exact right forum. In the mean time, the only thing I've found that guarentees the issue doesn't happen to me is to go all the way back to the Sarum rom. How pathetic is that. But thanks for the help anyway ... presuming some day there comes a "one cure - cures all".

When I make a phone call I get "UNFORTUNATELY THE PROCESS.COM.ANDROID.PHONE HAS STOPPED".When I press ok it ends the call. The phone is a sprint variant on cm10 latest nightly. My att on the same cm10 nightly doesn't have this error. How can I fix it?

I had the exact same problem with a reoccurring message that would flash on and off every second or so. I did both a data restart then a reboot of the android software by pushing the down volume button then holding the power button. When the LG logo appeared I released both buttons and followed the instructions for an android factory reboot. Apparently it is the SIM card. The android com.android.phone communicates with the SIM card and allows calls and texts to be sent and received using the android software. My SIM card got damaged somehow and could not receive the call from the android app com.android.phone. I had to buy a new SIM card for ten dollars and had my stored files on the SIM moved to the new one and no more problems. Telus and Bell move the files to the new SIM for free i'm sure other major service providers offer the same free service.

It may be too late, but.. I just had the same problem while installing some kitkat apps and spent hours trying everything to fix it. What ended up fixing it was: Settings>Application Manager> Menu > Reset app preference>Reboot.
Hope this helps!

[Q] Telus Note2 Rom,modem,signal SGH-I317M HELP Please..

Hello, well here i have been searching for over a year and reading the forums as well and getting more and more frustrated and need a straight forward answer from some one.
Issue 1 i would like to have a custom rom on my phone BUT and a big but it is, that the signal not be reduced in Any way i would not even settle for 1/2 db loss. from what i have been reading the biggest problem is screwing with roms that change the modem file. (am i right?) basicly what i would like is to have a stock android rom (vanilla) like cleanrom, but have my phone signal absolutely equal to my stock, of course if it got better which i don't expect it to, i wouldn't object to that.
Issue 2 How can i back up my current modem on my phone, i have yet to find any info how to do this step by step, or even find a true stock modem file from telus.
Issue 3 Is there a way that if i screw everything up and get no signal or less signal, a way to truly back up the entire phone so i could revert back to the way i am now 100%? ( an example would be if i had a computer and had made a image and burnt it to a cd if i screwed up the computer i would just reload the image and i would be back with every little crum of data from when i made the image). From what i have been reading it seems like most all backup of the current state of a phone don't include 100% everything, am i right or wrong?
Issue 4 Is there any true stock android (vanilla) rom out there ie. not something that someone other than google has made?
Anyway, accept my appreciation in advance for your help, maby i am just stuck with the stock telus offering but i am hoping for some enlightenment.
Oh and one more thing before i go one of the main things about stock that is really ticking me off is outgoing or incoming mms messages that are just pictures show up as a slide show, from what i have read feature.xml has a setting that i can add to fix this BUT i don't have feature.xml on my phone, do i have to download it somewhere and if so i have seached high and low for it and nothing plus is there a specifically formatted feature.xml for telus I317M?
Once again thanks in advance!
There are numerous custom ROMS that do not touch or include a MODEM, so there is nothing to mess-up as it relates to your signal strength. Your only concern needs to be selecting the correct kernel and ensuring you have your EFS partition (containing your IMEI) backed up.

Cleanrom already does that perfectly well.

Using ClockWorkMode to create a NANDroid backup and (if needed) restore using a custom recovery like TWRP or CWM is the process you are asking about. THis will fix a soft-brick.
A hard brick...is another story.

Vanilla, would be something like the "plain/boring" interface that comes with the Nexus4. This would NOT have TouchWiz. Your S-Pen will no longer work as there are no drivers for it in the Vanilla interface. It was Samsung that wrote the drivers for the S-Pen and implemented the functionality for S-note and the gestures. Also, the integrated Wacom screen would be useless in the Vanilla interface until someone adds something to the Vanilla configuration that Google deployed (didn't you say you only wanted Google's version?).

I believe your i317M has it too. Most of the good stuff is tied into your CSC anyway, so it's not worth the effort to mess with that. I'd spend the time to play around with the build.prop instead.

Your easiest option is to simply root your Stock ROM and debloat the carrier bloatware. If anything goes wrong, you can always use ODIN to flash the stock firmware (and not lose anything in the process).

I use Telus Note 2 so I'll answer your questions based on my experience.
1) I don't notice signal differences. I've used stock roms, modded touchwiz roms, vanilla android, and I don't notice a signal difference. That being said, I don't check my signal because it's not as important as you finding it important. I don't think an issue at all.
2) Just make a nandroid backup after rooting your phone. Rooting won't change your modem. In TWRP recovery, you can nandroid backup with the modem. Also, some custom ROM threads, e.g. JEDI or Cleanrom have TELUS modems in the original post. You can flash that if your modem is changed (and as above poster mentioned, a lot of the ROMs don't even touch the modem anyways)
3) Nandroid (after rooting). You could also download the stock rom that you are on at the moment on www.sammobile.com (whether it's 4.1.1 or 4.1.2)
4) I don't know what you exactly want. CM? SlimBean? Clairfy please.
Also, I don't use MMS so I can't tell you. But you could always try a custom ROM to see if that helps. I use CleanRom 5.0 myself right now and it's been working fine.
Lost my modem
Hi
I flew off half cocked. I flashed something on ODIN that gave me root but it appears I no longer have mobile data. Ok - it's been fun but where might be the original file for my phone?
i317m from bell. I am downloading the firmware from SAMmobile now - will that be all I need? Aw heck I am dangerous.

Mobile data? Have you checked you apn settings?
Sent from my phone
I live in the sticks, haven't touched my modem files at all (running ProBam) but I recently noticed that while I can send pix as attachments to texts, I cannot receive them. If someone tries to send me a pic, nothing happens. I have tried probably a hundred different APN name settings, nothing seems to make a difference one way or another. There are approximately seven trillion results if you do a Google search on the subject, with just under seven trillion different 'answers'.
As for the modem files themselves, I have never touched mine (other than to back them up) and I am running the MA3 modem on my Telus phone. One thing I have noticed is that I never get LTE, not even when I go to the city where it is, but... Otherwise, I can't complain about the speed. I would be more curious about battery life and wi-fi speeds when it came to modem files, there is a chance that the older modem would work better for people in the sticks.
