[Q] China telecom S710d (incredible2) s-on Need Google apps - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I live in China and am using the China Telecom HTC s710d (Incredible2). China telecom handsets have no Google apps, also no google account. Following are the specs as and how I got the phone (only thing that I was able to do was Unlock the bootloader)
*** UNLOCKED ***

HBOOT - 1.04.0000

Aug 16 2011
Android Version : 2.3.4
HTC Sense version : 2.1
ROM Version : 3.60.1401.0
PRI Version : 2.71_001
How can I (Not necessarily in the following order)
1) S-OFF and ROOT
2) Activate my phone to use GSM & CDMA networks (currently i can only use CDMA)
3) Get google apps and google account to work
4) Upgrade my phone to the latest version.
I've googled this without any result. I cant get S-OFF because HBOOT versions above 0.97xxx are not supported. I cant upgrade because I dont have S-OFF and hence cant even root to get the google apps!
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Try downgrading using the method in development, then you can use revolutionary to s-off and root. You'll need to relock the bootloader first though. After you do that, you can flash Google apps in recovery. If you want to upgrade software, I'd suggest using a stock like ROM, or use whatever you want, some have gapps included, others have it as a separate download, but they all have it.

The only for sure way that I personally know will root your phone is an XTC clip. Other methods could work but this is all I know. you MAY be able to make a gold card and downgrade to an hboot that will allow you to root using software methods but I really have no idea. sorry man, hopefully the others with that phone will chime in soon.

What I have not been able to determine in these threads is whether "unlocked" = rooted.
Also, in spite of successfully unlocking bootloader, do I still need to achieve S-OFF to flash a custom ROM?
Best!

Yes you can flash a custom rom, your bootloader is unlocked...
You can't put any other sim card, than whats your service provicer now...
Find index thread, there you have all tutorials on how to flash stuff on your phone, good luck and wellcome
No, it isn't rooted
You're not rooted and you could s-off if you want because it gives you more benefits plus its very simple and didn't take more than 5 minutes

You don't need S-OFF, unlocked bootloader is enough to flash custom ROM.
I also have S-ON.

virgin mobile ? do you have sim card inside your phone ? if not, that means you are cdma, and that means you can s-off without XTC CLIP, otherwise, if you are gsm , then you have to wait or simply s off it by using xtc clip ...

No SIM. As stated at the start, the handset is CDMA. I have not read in the forums how one can achieve S-OFF without getting the Clip. Please explain how it is done. Thanks.
i guess i dont have to write anything since everything is in following threads, i wish you luck in unlocking your device :

unlocked means the bootloader is unlocked. it doesn't mean you ARE rooted, but it does mean you CAN root.
quick and easy way - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1432074
Following links above, I finally achieved S-OFF and then rooted the handset. Since then, installed BusyBox and Titanium Pro. By deleting some bloatware and by freezing widgets and apps I'm unsure of, and moving all possible apps to SD-card memory, I've been able to free up 58 - 60 mb of internal memory.
It's now quite a useful handset!
if the smartphone is s-off now you have to install the root file... I mean root.zip going in recovery menu by pressing vol - and power... the root.zip file is there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195275
another possibility is to installa a coocked ROM such as CyanogenMod
Thanks for all the useful info. The handset now is S-off and rooted.
My handset is Wildfire S CDMA, A510c, VirginMobil USA. As I look for ROMs I might wish to attempt to flash, I see many - most - are for "Marvel." My handset is "Marvelc."
From reading the threads, I get the idea "Marvel" and "Marvelc" are not compatible. Is this correct?
Again, thanks!
Bob

I used the HTCDEV unlock to unlock until I found the GoldCard S-OFF method to S-OFF and S-OFF, as we all know > Unlocked bootloader. I used theq86's tool to relock to the original state.
My first question is: what does the "OOW" mean? I have that it means "Out of Warranty" and that it means absolutely nothing.
My second question is: can I downgrade to my original HBOOT? I do not the remember the version, but I'm sure someone out there knows.
My third question: if I downgrade HBOOT, will I lose S-OFF? It's no big deal if I do, I just want to have my GoldCard ready.
Fourth: If I downgrade to the original HBOOT will it still report "LOCKED (OOW)" or will it just say "LOCKED" and does that have any benefit over "LOCKED (OOW)" (I have heard that it does when sending the phone back to HTC.
I simply want my phone to look as stock as possible (with the exception of my ROM, which can easily be stocked) in case it needs to be sent to HTC.

It is not confirmed, but it seems to be Out Of Warranty because if you flash this bootloader HTC will reject warranty
My second question is: can I downgrade to my original HBOOT? I do not the remember the version, but I'm sure someone out there knows.
Yes, you can. Use my tool again and choose the third option "superversion"
Afterwards flash a STOCK RUU and hboot will be downgraded as well.
My third question: if I downgrade HBOOT, will I lose S-OFF? It's no big deal if I do, I just want to have my GoldCard ready.
I don't know, but S-OFFing again is no problem if it really goes away.
Fourth: If I downgrade to the original HBOOT will it still report "LOCKED (OOW)" or will it just say "LOCKED" and does that have any benefit over "LOCKED (OOW)" (I have heard that it does when sending the phone back to HTC.
If you downgrade HBOOT it will neither show LOCKED, RELOCKED or UNLOCKED because the standard hboots do not check this.

When you say to flash a stock RUU do you mean one of the ones from HTC Dev or elsewhere? Can you provide a link. If it would help, I have a marvelc with Virgin Mobile US.
In the dev section there is a thread where many many stock rom RUUs are. so take a look at there. it's one of the sticky posts.
To downgrade your bootloader, since your s-off just take the ruu with the bootloader of your choice. Extract the rom.zip. open it up and you will find a file called bootloader or hboot or something to that effect. Take that file and the android update.txt file. Zip them both up and rename it pg76img.zip
Put it in the root if your sdcard and boot into hboot. The phone will find the update and just flash it. Done

Is there a specific ROM I should be running? Using simonsimon34's CM7 port and with my PC running Windows 8 Consumer Preview (with HTC Drivers) I am told that the RUU utility is unable to find the Android phone.
Do I need a ROM with HTC Sync?
Which method are you trying?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I'm just trying to run the RUU.exe.
EDIT: I installed Vista and so far it appears to work. I'm going to wait until later to actually go all the way through. (I just went far enough for it to verify my "PDA phone".)
Might just have been your win 8 pal.

Driving me wild (fire)

Hiya folks!
I unlocked my daughter Wildfire S hboot via HTC-Dev when it was first released and upgraded from 2.3.3 to 2.3.5 EU to get rid of the 3 bloatware on the original rom, I did not root at the time as it was still in its very infant stage and did not wish to give my daughter my Rooted Desire through bricking hers!
Now the time has come to root as she is constantly telling me of a space shortage...I know we've all been there..so thinking the Hboot was still unlocked I ran through HTC super tool 3 , tried a couple of times with no success so realized there must be something I've missed, I checked the hboot was still unlocked in the pink text I believe it was to find that it no longer states unlocked, locked or any extra text just,

Go to htcdev and follow instructions to unlock your bootloader.Once it's unlocked, you should see "UNLOCKED" at the top when you boot ur phone.
And then you can root the phone.

OK Ta I wondered if I had to do it again, I guess as I have already updated to 2.3.5 from the first time I can skip that part and precede to straight step 1 ?
Did you tried this? I had problem with rooting my wfs, I can't find script i used right now. I'll update this post if i will find it.
What happened is that the 2.3.5 update changed your HBOOT from the previous one.......Go to htcdev.com start the unlock process and when prompted to download an RUU........ just download the RUU with the software more than the one you are having..... in your case the Europe RUU and just follow the instructions thereafter.....
Right got 'ERROR 190 ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED' please upgrade to 2.13.401.3 to apply this RUU, can I use a different RUU csoulr66 other than EU?
Wish I'd done this in one hit rather than in parts! Thanks in advance all!!!
You're 100% sure that you grabbed proper RUU? According to error you get and htcdev it should be this:
HTC EU 2.13.401.3 PG7610000 - sry can't give you direct link because of forum limitation for users under 8 posts
have you made a goldcard????? Because you will need one to run an RUU

I have a unlocked phone but I never hear about goldcard, are you sure it's needed ?
A goldcard is used to debrand the CID. Without a goldcard, you cant install diags/downgrade/etc because the CID is branded with your carrier.
I had this problem originally, all you have to do is run a stock rom RUU (From the list supplied by football in the stickies) with a goldcard. Then go back to the HTC dev website and upgrade the hboot.

All done, I could not down load any of the links from 'footballs' thread, busy..no free slots etc , so I found a Spanish site and upgraded to 'Europe_2.13.401.3_Radio_47.23c.35.3037_7.54.39.28M_release_236989' then all worked as it should following the instructions on the HTC DEV site, rooted and running SENSELESS_2.3.5_jermzii_v.1.2, thanks all!!

[Q] S-ON Orange UK Branded issues..

Long story short.....
Ive had my DHD for about 2 years now and have flashed the crap out of it without any issues.
My DHD is non branded, and Ive never had an issue with it.
I bought the Wife a DHD with Stock Rom, S-ON locked Bootloader etc. Locked to Orange UK
Ive scoured the XDA forums for an answer but unable to find it. Although I found Soooooooo many post with dead links or incomplete / Not working information etc.
I have used the HTCDev site to unlock the bootloader now, and also installed CWM and managed to install a Stock-rooted Rom.
SU works etc so I know I have root.

Yes, because unlocked bootloader with s-on does not allow you to alter boot partition through recovery. From your post, you said you are using easy s-off. If im not mistaken, that tools cannot be used on bootloader v2 (new bootloader). The only way is by using aahk2 which can be found in general section. Im not sure whether u need to flash a ruu in order to use that tool. It is better for you to ask in that thread.

Actually found a way to do it via Terminal on the phone.
Ill see if I can find the link I used.
