Hi, this is one of my firsts post, I'm not a native English speaker so any corrections would be much appreciated.
UPDATE:Get this app and let it do every fix for you (Including pluging fixes):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.crdevs.liveviewguide
If you don't want to get the app you can follow these steps and get almost the same results, at least you don't have to read a lot as I did, if you don't understand a step search the forum for similar words, you will find what I'm talking about.
1- Upgrade your liveview via USB using SEUS.
http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/update-service/
2- Install Liveview from market and LiveWare Manager.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveview
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveware
3- Open liveview app and pair your device, BUT (most important recommendation), when you search the liveview you must wait until it resolves the device name, don´t pair it if you only see the MAC address, that was my main problem when using ICS, it must be detected with name "LiveView", after pairing it make sure it's listed on the paired list of the liveview app, not only on android settings.
4- (root) edit system/build.prop and add the following line
sys.keep_app_1=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveview
then correct the permisions like this:
xx
x
x
----------
All this should work, you may get your liveview disconnected only a few times per day. If still doesn't work good enough so follow this steps:
6- Install liveview charm
7- Install AutomateIt and configure two rules: 1. when bluetooth disconnect open liveview app. 2 the same but when the liveview connects.
8- Install Auto Memory Manager, and set liveview app to priority -1 and make it keepalive, increase (make number lower) any other apps mentioned here.
9- (related to reconnection problems) use fixes from liveview manager (the paid app), and edit a file at data/misc/bluetooth/ it's called connection or something like that and change 1 to -1 or viseversa. trial and error.
reboot
For Plugins:
10.new- install: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sika524.android.quickshortcut, create a chortcut and select "Activity", find a plugin and select it, then open the shortcut you've jsut made.
10.OLD- for plugins not showing in ICS, install ADW, create custom shortcut and select "activities" find the plugin in the list, and pick any activity called "preferences" open the shortcut and enable plugin, not every plugin works on ICS, for example calender plugin, some works after removing another for a while and rebooting, take your time, some plugins show in liveware manager but not on liveview app, all of them show in ADW.
I hope it should work, but most important step is number 3, read it twice.
(tested on GB SE stock, CM7, CM9 FXP, SE ICS stock, ICS from hyundai A7 tablet stock, Xperia pro stock, and motorola cliq cm7) all worked great.
Thanks to Skyper, Richard K, and many people on the forum who posted solutions for every single issue.
4- (root) modify build.prop on system to keep liveview app alive.
you were so kind to specify the text to add in build.prop Thanks
anyone know if sony fix it for pluings: (
they do not want to install more stuff on my phone: (
thanks
Hi, already made some modifications to make step 4 clearer, for plugins do step 10

That's a bit expensive for this. I don't mean to be "that guy who complains about the price" but I was expecting 99 cents or free for this. Would have happily donated the 99 cents for the effort. What exactly does the app do? Does it install ADW, Live View, Charm, and AutomateIt? Does it actually fix the build.prop lines? I'm curious if it does these things all for you or if this is only a guide on how to do it yourself like you have in the OP.
Hi, it adds the required lines to build.prop, check that liveview has been paired correctly (not named the same as the mac address, it must be named "LiveView"), checks for root and shows an alternative guide for fixes that require root. Also shows you a list of your installed plugins so you can access them and make them appear on the liveview app. Anyway it's cheaper than LiveView Manager that only keeps liveview app and fixes linkeys

Oh, I wasn't comparing it to that one. Live View Manager does nearly the same thing as Charm. To each his own, though. Thanks for writing out the guide. I do appreciate that.
Thank you for your effort
Would it be possible to get a fully-functional time-limited demo version of this app? Say, something that works for three days?
That will be enough time to evaluate and decide whether the paid version should be bought.
i have already spent on liveview manager and it did not help. after lot of frustrations, i am thinking of either smashing my liveview with a hammer and buying the smartwatch... or waiting for the pebble.
if your app works as advertised, i would love to buy it and use the liveview till the pebble arrives.
But would like to demo it first before buying.
the app is a "one-time" fix, once you run your liveview should be working, also have shortcuts for plugins even if they are invisible on liveview app. That's why I cannot give a demo because it modify your device. You can also follow the guide on the first post and it will have the same results, depending on the issue I can tell you if you can follow just an step and not buy the whole app, but with liveview manager it seems that your problem is that your watch disconnects after a while right?(the guide or the app solves this) When it does, does it reconnect automatically after pressing the wake button twice?(liveview manager usually solves this)
So I also got this watch, but there is one thing that really annoys me, the watch never reconnects by him self, the phone always asks to confirm the bluetooh passkey, can I overtake this issues ?
Thanks
My app still lacks that specific fix but has a guide for it, that step is also for free on the first post so if it's the only problem you have you may not need to buy it, my app will make your watch to disconnects less o never while your phone is on, but what you need should be fixed by cleaning linkkeys, there is a guide overe the forum but Im not sure if it works for you, try my guide on first post specially the one that modifies a bluetooth system file, if still doesn't work then you should install an app liveview manager, it's paid, not made by me but most likely it will solve the "ask for permission" issue, I will try to implement that in an update but I cannot tell you when, sorry
I also bought liveview manager, and it doesnt make any difference

Check out my free app in the Marketplace: AppFinder
AppFinder is the fastest way to find apps by name bar none.
Start typing the name of an app or publisher, and the search results are shown instantly.
tap one of the results to go to the marketplace page for the app.
Check it out and let me know what you think
Been using it last couple days, its a big help! Thanks!!!
I'll check it out thanks!
Thank you - it's very fast like the marketplace search should be. Good for quick looking apps if you know the name.
Are there any improvements coming? Like the Top Downloads or anything else?

thanks for the feedback - I'm on it
Great app, thanks!

does this fix the crash where it closed and wouldn't reopen for me (even after soft reset)?
I had to uninstall, reinstall to get it working again.
I don't think so.
Although I think I know the cause. I will have to roll the fix into another update.
I think there is a small window where the downloaded data file can be corrupted if the writing to flash is interrupted. It will be simple to fix. For now, if you hit it, uninstall reinstall is the only option.
nice find. but did you know while in maketplace you can use the search button to find apps as well?

Of course I do
AppFinder is all about making apps discoverable in the fastest way possible.
I think if you're not in the top 20 apps in the marketplace under any one of the categories, then as a developer you're invisible. AppFinder seeks to make it easier to find apps via search, and with the update, via browsing as well.
Update is in the hopper, still waiting for testing to complete...

locales
Ok, so I just figured out I've only been indexing the en-US locale
I've updated the data to include
{ "en-US", "en-GB", "en-IE", "en-CA", "en-IN", "en-AU", "en-HK", "en-SG", "de-DE", "fr-FR", "fr-BE", "de-AT", "de-CH", "it-IT", "en-NZ", "es-ES", "es-MX" };
this change is effective immediately as it is a data update. Still waiting for the update to make it through the approval process. It seems that the holiday has slowed things down a bit
The update finally arrived
Nice new features and still very fast. But unfortunately, in my case, it wont load after the second app start (even at first start if I switch the section). I always have to deinstall/reinstall again once the app was started.
Maybe you can take a look? Feels like a caching problem or something like that. I'm using a Samsung Omnia 7 in germany - if that helps
Feature wishlist:
1. add a settings screen to edit:
a.) the number of list entries on one page (10, 20, 50) to keep the app fast enough
b.) the section on loading (and maybe you also can set this to no section just for fast look-up app search - I used the app for this before the update)
2. Maybe you can use the OS-typical "left-to-right-scrolling-loading-dots" instead of the big ones?
3. New logo if there is enough time

Private Joker,
Thanks for the feedback.
First - there was a bug that only impacted the German locale! I was trying to save bandwidth by truncating unnecessary leading zeros in the price and this caused an exception when the locale was set to German. I've updated the data to include the leading zeros and this fixes the problem for Germans. You will have to uninstall and reinstall though to get it to work. I am very sorry for the inconvenience, and I really appreciate you taking the time to give me your feedback even though the app was not working for you at all. I hope you will try again given that the data has been fixed.
Regarding your feedback -
I think you are right on the mark for #2 and #3
I don't understand 2b.
regarding 1a.
perf should not be impacted by the number of items that are shown -
Appfinder actually transfers the marketplace data to the device and indexes it locally. I do this because the network is really, really slow. Aside from having artists and albums mixed up with apps in the marketplace search results, I also was tired of waiting for results to load. Scrolling through the apps means waiting.
The delay at the beginning is caused by reading the marketplace data from flash and indexing it in RAM. Occasionally the loading dots will appear after launching (like the first time that you use it) because AppFinder has transfered a new data file and needs to parse it again. Instead of delaying every 10 or so apps in the list, there is one delay at the beginning (which is relatively small). Right now parsing the file takes about 4 seconds.
Perf could be greatly improve if I had access to memory mapped file APIs. Further compressing the data would help as well - The really slowest part is really reading from the flash. I can improve perf when a network update occurs by reading from the flash in the background before blocking - this would drop the update delay from ~4 seconds to ~1 second.
I could also not query as you're typing -- Waiting until the enter button has been pressed would reduce CPU load and any chunkiness - pressing search would just render the apps instantly.
Anyway, really appreciate your positive attitude and willingness to give feedback in light of what must be a frustrating experience. Please give it another try.
Thanks,
Eric
I found solution for LiveView connection issues and had it posted in Sony Ericsson LiveView™ Issues Thread on xda-forum.com . Unfortunately it hasn't been noticed by users untill now that it has been ripped from this forum and posted on www.robot-home.it on 30th December(http://www.robot-home.it/blog/2010/...i-comunicazione-e-al-blocco-dello-smartphone/) but as their own invention what made me really furious (Luckly it was corrected). It took me time to figure it out.
Link to original post form 23rd December: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10025306&postcount=190
This is the solution:
First of all delete LiveWare Manager, which causes our phones to crash all the time, and gives only one feature in return (shows all available liveview plugins which you can find manualy in the market). Then remove any kind
of Task Killer etc. Next step is to instal MinfreeManager (keep in mind that it requires root premissions). I recommend using Mild/Agressive preset but you have to change Secondary Server values very low (for example 6mb). By setting Secondary Server values to very low LiveView Application and all of the plugins will be kept alive all the time, which will prevent any disconnections. After this I used this solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=493 posted by adolfotregosa. Now my LiveView works pretty fine with my SGS running CM 6.1 Nightly. Even if you'll go out of the bluetooth range and then want to reconnect it will happen more or less instantly.
Optional:
Instead of removing Advanced Task Killer you can leave it just set Security Level in Options to Low and then set following processes to ignore:
1. com.android.providers.drm
2. LiveViewApplication
3. OpenWatch
4. com.android.bluetooth
AND all of the processes from plugins you have (they have "liveview" in their name)
For me better option is with Advanced Task Killer enabled but everyone can decide for themselves.
I hope all of LiveView Users will now be able enjoy using this device.
Thanks to adolfotregosa for his discovery with OpenWatch which is the part of this solution.
Thanks a lot! right now I can use it... Now the only problem is the battery life...
omg ive been ready to though this thing out of the window, after a google search this post came up.
I had to downgrade then root my htc desire hd then ran that little program, and so far the machine is working as it was advertised!!!
you are a saint for finding this - so far 2hrs and counting connected, before hand i was lucky to get 3 mins!!!.
happy days!!
thankyou again
Fantastic find! I just did all as described and it has been connected for a good 30mins so far and no disconnects and/or reboots! LOVE IT!
Now I must find a replacement watchband hehe...

I wrote you an email and wrote you two posts but you ignored me. I'm happy to help people writing solutions on my blog. I wrote something by myself and sometimes I take, solutions on other sites (normally in english) and I translate into Italian to diffuse them.
Every time I take a solution on other sites I put a link to the source, as in your case... there are also thanks to you and Fregosa... did you read it again? I never said it was an invention of mine... I'm not used to take works made by other people and pass them as mine.
I'm sorry you do not understand it, but it is not my fault... maybe italian to english translations do not work very well.
WHat if I dont use any taskkiller? would I have a problem with Liveview?

I'm happy to read this words.
This evening I tried "Task Killer" configuration on my Galaxy Tab and I need to say that works a lot better than "minfreemanager".
I'm writing another post on my blog to allow italian user to get it, I'm also making a few screenshoot to allow a better understand of the configuration step, feel free to take them (when the article is ready) and put them here
Now I'm sure that the only problem on no-sonyericsson device is the managing of the memory and of the apps in background

I never use one

I do not use any task killers. But to answer your question the connectivity issue still remains, even with this fix. You'll need to live with this issue for now until Sony Ericsson addresses the issue or some dev here can come up with a permanent fix.

Acctualy I think You got me wrong. The optional configuration with Task Killer contains everything that the regular option does so:
1. Delete LiveWare Manager
2. Instal MinfreeManager (keep in mind that it requires root premissions). I recommend using Mild/Agressive preset but you have to change Secondary Server values very low (for example 6mb).
3. Use this solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=493 posted by adolfotregosa.
AND:

a) com.android.providers.drm
b) LiveViewApplication
c) OpenWatch
d) com.android.bluetooth
+ all of the processes from plugins you have (they have "liveview" in their name)
So as You can see in both configurations MinFreeManager is used, but the optional configuration is enriched with Advanced Task Killer.

It sad but it's true. Yup, just do everything You mentioned and it will update the device, at the end it will give You "Instalation failed" message, but don't worry next time You connect liveview and run service update it will display that You have the newest firmware.
Task manager is to be used because when Android goes down of memory it kills background processes, included bluetooth manager and LV plugin applications. This is why LiveView Application loses connection, it does not find bluetooth process until you do not try to connect LV again and Android re-activate it.
To be sure that memory is not managed by Android I set Auto kill frequency to 30' and at Crazy level... then I do not have disconnections

Acctualy that is not entirely true, because if You open some kind of game or use flash in browser it will eat your memory faster than Advanced Task Killer can free it, and You will lose connection with LiveView. To reconnect You would have to start LiveView Application once again. To prevent Android from killing bluetooth manager and LiveView stuff it is important to set Secondary Server values to very low (that is why MinFreeManager is needed). Advanced Task Killer helps keeping high RAM level better than MinFreeManager which prevents phone and liveview from lagging but it won't protect LiveView and bluetooth stuff from beeing killed by Android.

Yes, you are right. As you can read in my last blog post I say to make your first procedure as first step (not real, first step is LV update ).
The secondo step on my post says:
"Se non l’avete ancora fatto eseguite la prima procedura di stabilizzazione della connessione di LockedOn riportata nel mio primo post"
translated:
"If you did not make it yet, follow LockedOn's first connection stabilization procedure, as written in my first post"
As we say in Italy "Advanced Task Killer" is the "ciliegina sulla torta"... the thing that makes a good work become a excellent work!
I have a doubt: when I open MinfreeManager I always get default values instead of the one I set. Is it right or is there something wrong in my "root"?
For "rooting" in used Z4root
Man I really wished that the Liveview would at least retain the time and then update when reconnected to the phone. I can't use it unless the phone is attached to me! Eh...my lil gripe I guess lol...
Hi!
After a lot of investigation and searching, I eliminated connection problems with LiveView, but it still remains almost unusable, because its damn "LiveView Application" crashes the whole phone randomly. Where is that famous "linux stability" if one small app can easily crash the whole OS...
I've found out already, that this happens if the application's process gets killed by Android (thanks to XDA forum, I managed to correctly setup task killers). I googled for solutions, and found these:
1 - "There isn't a way to prevent this directly, without a rooted device." - SO! There IS a way to prevent this on a rooted devise! Does anyone know about it?
2 - "The app needs to put itself in the Notifications bar in order to keep from getting killed when it's in the background. This is what apps like Music or Pandora do in order to keep playing music and not get killed when they are backgrounded" - well, is there some tool to selectively "give" some running app the notification bar icon? Because if we wait for SE to implement this, we may as well wait for Apple to produce iPhone watch
3 - "HOWTO: Change Process Priority Using the Nice Command" - I'm not quite sure if this applies to Android, but I've found it on Motorola Droid forum...
Well, is there a developer ready to look into this? After all, ALMOST everything is working fine, the only thing that needs to be fixed - keeping process alive no mattaer what...
Best regards,
Draco.
Hi,
I did up a home replacement for my Nook simple touch, thought I would share it. This is an initial release, no doubt there are bugs, incompatibilities, etc, you were warned. There are no checks for other devices at this point, NST only.
Thanks to the nook community for the noogie.img file, touch nooter, and relaunch for source code ideas and various threads regarding quick refresh and e-ink support.
Disclaimer: Now, what I am using currently is the bare minimum, I have tried quite a bit of the work in this forum and it works well, but I wasn't satisfied or 100% confident and I wanted less installed. So, I restored my nook to stock, used noogie and copied over a rooted ramdisk. That was it, no touchcolortools, nooktouchtools installed, adw minimal this or that, or button saviors. I am sure they are great programs but I don't know enough about them or have the interest/time to do research on them to want to keep them installed.
For me, the point is to keep things simple and maintain battery life. It's an e-reader not a tablet after all. I just want to read books, check email, check a website or two, get some more use out of wi-fi since I don't live in a B&N supported nation.
To install:adb install EPubBrowser.apk
Optional:
I also installed Email.apk and set up my gmail from there, no certificates required or a million google app files and plucking a chicken on a Tuesday after jumping on your left foot crap. No offense to those who like chicken plucking.
adb install Email.apk
Done and done.
I can do up a CWM zip upon request, but last going off I have a continuous reboot after installing the latest version and if you know enough to get the Nook's CWM installed you should be able to use adb.See attached files.
What is not working:
Since Android doesn't really know about multiple external storage locations (at least for the Nook's 2.1 and/or my knowledge of android) EPubBrowser is unable to detect when the internal storage has been remounted, there is no notification of that, just notification of external storage. So if you plug in your usb cord to the computer the list of books will be empty even when you remove it. So if you don't have an sdcard you will have to hit the back button and launch home again to refresh.
Also, B&N books are not listed, whatever is in My Files will be scanned only. That applies to internal and sdcard storage. You can still use B&N's Library to access those.
I don't have any option of uninstalling apps either. adb uninstall works fine or you can just delete files from /data/app via adb shell.
What is working:
Launch of EPubBrowser via nook's home button, without use of nooktouchtools, it duplicates how the B&N home app works.
The notification icon for resuming reading goes through the app. As long as the book was launched from EPubBrowser it can remember the last book, otherwise the main display will show up. Reason being that for whatever reason the last page read doesn't work with the B&N home screen if it's not a book bought from B&N. But if you are just using the B&N Reader app it's not a problem.
When you are prompted which home you want you can select EPubBrowser and hit default. This may not stay set and will go away the next time you reboot.
How to use:Left / right swipes to go to the next 6, previous 6 books, no indication of the current page is displayed, (e-ink and aesthetics).
Touch a book cover to launch a description of the book, swipe up and down to scroll through the description, touch the cover displayed there to start reading. Hit back button on top of screen to exit without launching a book.
To bring up the list of apps installed, swipe a clockwise circle starting at 10 O'clock. Touch an app to launch it, left or right swipe to go back to main screen. That's it for now.
If you have any ideas for improvements, bug reports, please provide as much detail as possible, and when you have done that add some more detail.
Cheers!
Updates:
2/19/2012:
Added screensaver for last read book. (Jpeg 75%) Settings->Display->Screensavers->EPubBrowser
11/4/2012:
Added src project
Looks nice! I'll give it a shot later when my Nook's charged.
Thank you for making and sharing, i am going to try tomorrow and tell you,
Improvements
First of all, thank you for creating this cool launch screen. I love the simplicity of it. Here are is brief list of improvement that you can perhaps easily implement.
-When on the homescreen with the covers of all the books, I am not sure if I am suppose to scroll down or to the right to view the rest of my books.
-When on the page with the details from the book, there is no back button to take you back to the homescreen. I end up using the button savior back button.
-The circle gesture that takes you to the apps does not feel very responsive to me.
Anyhow, great job. Can't wait to see how you plan on improving it

I installed this, and everything just kept flashing. GO Locker and GO Launcher are both broken, and the only way I could fix it was by getting into ADW and closing the task. Did I install it incorrectly? I put it onto an SD card and used ES File Manager to install it.

Hi,
Thanks for the feedback.
You swipe left to go to the previous page of books. You swipe right to go to the next page of books, assuming you have more than 6 books. Personally, I know what books I have on the device so it's not a problem knowing how many are left to see for me.
The back button should be on top of the screen in the middle, not sure why it wouldn't be there on yours. I will give it a think, maybe remove the scroll control in the book description and just use gesture detection and scroll the text via code.
Responsiveness and speed will likely improve over time, I am using the gesture library, maybe there are some optimizations there I can do.
Cheers!

Hi,
Noted, so it doesn't work with GO Lancher/Locker. Never tried GO stuff, so that wasn't tested. It was tested with ADW and relaunch, and I had all the rest of your typical touch nooter install there without problems, android market, etc.
I have run it with Home.apk renamed to Home.apk.bak and that works fine as well.
As for your other question, if it is installed it is installed, there are no configurations to modify, however you get it there it should be fine.
Cheers!
WANT
Noted that it does not work with go, will have to get rid of that first.
From the screenshots, I can already tell you put time into polishing! Good job!

I'll try it again without the GO software, but it was making everything just keep flashing, like the lock screen.
@NFHimself, any plans for taking this to github? It is very close to what I always wanted but I was also looking for:
- some kind of usage of Calibre data
- library filtering for series, highly rated, etc.
- tracking of books that are clicked to maintain sort of recent read filter
- sorting options by rating, series, and other Calibre properties
- option to display 6 or 12 (smaller) book covers.
I hope it already does use intents for selecting a different epub reader for those who have no defaults and multiple ones installed.
I know its a long list, and I have some Android experience. I am sure there would be other developers here so a combined effort might help.

Hi,
I use Calibre as well, I just connect via adb and calibre picks up the nook and I copy books over and it converts on the fly, cool program. Using Calibre data is an idea worth looking into, if I can fit it into the theme of no preferences, no extra buttons or config. There are plenty of those kind of home apps already. Relaunch for one is great, just missing a graphical front end, I was going to mod that, but decided that I didn't really need so much stuff and I wanted to learn more android API.
I did up the app using pretty straight forward epub standards (note the plural), it works with most epubs I have run across, not sure if looking for extra xml is a good functionality vs performance tradeoff. I haven't been using EPubBrowser for very long myself, so when I add more books and find something annoying I will probably make changes to fix it. I want to keep things simple, if I need a preferences menu, it is already going the wrong way.
I am not specifying any class, just a regular launch this epub file intent, so it should work with any reader. I like the stock reader myself, cool reader seems to dislike some epubs I have above a certain size, and I didn't want to deal with it.
I may github it, I am kinda time limited these days.
Cheers!

Hi,
More details are needed to figure that out. What device do you have? What do you have installed on it?
Cheers!
I just wiped then manually rooted my Nook, and this works now. Although I'm having some trouble with getting to the apps page after the first time I did it. Could you possible change how you get to the apps page? Maybe change it so you have to click the menu key to get to apps.
Edit: Now that I've added my books, it shows me two books, one empty, and another book. Now it just flashes and removes/re-adds the last book. :/
Edit 2: I found that there are a few books that just don't like this launcher and cause the entire Nook to start flashing. I've been adding my books one by one to see which work and which don't and I'll try and find similarities between those that don't.
Great launcher replacement.
Running right now, but after the second page, I get sent back to the first, regardless of left-to-right or right-to-left swiping. Ideas?
Also, any chance for a page up/down use for scrolling through books?
I took a quick vid. It looks like when I swipe again from R to L, it tries to redraw the next books, but gets confused?

Hi,
I'm busy painting the baby's room, but it looks like it is resetting, perhaps one of your books is crashing the app and it is being relaunched as the home screen. Or could be some other bug, how many books are involved, if you remove one or add one, does it go away?
If someone could open the e-pub (it's a zip file) that causes the error and paste the contents of the .odf file (it's an xml file) , that would help.
Cheers!

I've gone through and removed / added ebooks, and still the same problem.
Sorry, been kinda busy.
I need to be able to see the bug on my end to work on it. Maybe I've been lucky with the book selections I have made or converting using Calibre has set them all to have the same kind of format, vs the variety you might see in the wild from multiple sources.
Does the error happen with no books?
What happens when you have just one book?
How many books do you have on your nook? (If it's something like 1000 then yeah, maybe you'd have issues, no checks in the code for being out of memory.)
What firmware are you using?
Are there any hardware differences? (Can't imagine that being a problem, but I am using a NST, not the original Nook.)
What can I do to reproduce this error on my end? What are the steps?
Cheers!

For me, it doesn't matter how many books I have, it's just a few specific books that crash, independent of the other books in my library, and some books are more severe than others (one makes the entire Nook start flashing (all software), others make only this app flash).
I have the same problem as the people above but I can't get past the first page. I can't seem to narrow it down to a certain book making it crash. It's a shame I love this home screen, but hopefully we can get this fixed and running great.
I have an app (calorie counter) that keeps showing a notification there is an update. I don't want to update it because the new permissions seem intrusive (allowing hardware controls - take picture and video).
Does anyone know how I can disable getting a notification about the update?
Cheers,
Open Google play, go to settings and uncheck " notifications" option.

That will turn off notifications for all apps though, which I'd rather not do.

You could use titanium backup to disassociate the app with the Google Play store. I've personally never done it myself, but I think this is the solution you're looking for

You can also specify it on a per app basis. Just open the app in Google play and uncheck the checkbox.

No, you can't
The only check box is for Automatic Updates, not update notifications.
Go to settings, apps, select the app, uncheck notifications.
Solution by using ZipSigner 2
I just came across a solution (android.stackexchange.com/a/25527)
If you've got root access and have the original apk of the version you want to keep at hand (via Titanium backup or copied out of your \data\app folder), you can use ZipSigner 2 to give that apk a different key (auto-testkey).
When you install the apk with its new key, the Play Store will not recognize the installed app and will therefore not try to search or push any updates. :good:
ZipSigner 2 is available for free in the Play Store: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kellinwood.zipsigner2
If you have root, you can simply use ti backup to detach an app from the market.
It was assumed op doesn't have root though.

It was my understanding that detaching an app in Titanium does not work anymore since an update from Google Play has more checks on the server side.

Thanks for this. What a quick and easy solution. Now I can keep the old Foursquare without getting it automatically updated to that new version.
Please note: ZipSigner 2 does not require root!
The solution probably still works. Thanks for the hint!
Now I did test it.
1. Use App Backup and Restore to save the apk
2. Use Zipsigner to give the apk a different autokey
3. Uninstall original app
4. Install the apk modified by Zipsigner, you may need some file manager like TotalCommander for this
It is all possible without root and works well

I know this is an old thread. And I understand that Ti Backup used to work for detaching an app from Play Store. But I also understand that this works no longer. For those who are interested, I have created an app that does a pretty good job of this. It is called Hide Updates In Play Store. There is a video showing the app at work. It does require a rooted device. Thanks
Let me summarize:
- it costs money
- it needs root
- it needs an additional app
- the solution may not persist if you uninstall the controlling app
All these disadvantages can be avoided by reading just one posting higher ...

You are, of course, correct in the disadvantages. But the above method has its own limitations:
1) I wonder how/if it will work with system apps unless you have root. For instance, I actually wanted to get rid of updates to Google Search since later versions hose-up Utter.
2) It is something of a pain to "undo" since you will loose any settings or data (unless you are VERY CAREFUL) related to the app when you uninstall the "fake-signed" app and re-install the "real" app. Of course, this would also happen during the install of the "fake-signed" app in the first place. In some cases, this may be trivial but in others, it may not. And App Backup/Restore - which I use - fine app - only processes the .apk file.
3) It requires a minimum 2 apps be installed.
4) It isn't terribly easy to do. Developers would likely be able/willing to handle this - or even know what signing is or what to do. But how about others? The first one would be hardest for sure.
Like my solution, it also seems not likely to work with paid apps or apps having in-app purchases. I am not 100% sure, but would guess that the re-signing will mess up most Play Store license checking. Indeed, App Backup/Restore handles these differently and with far less functionality.
Still, for someone who is willing to do it and for those lacking root, the solution suggested above seems like it will work and those who are rooted can certainly save that $1 which can be used to make a one-time purchase of maybe 1/2 cup of coffee at the nearest Starbucks
Cheers!
David, if you would have mentioned the possibility of resigning in the description of your app, maybe even give the manual how to do without your app, I'd much more be willing to believe and support you.
Without that hint it has a little smell of betraying for me, not showing people who do not know better or do not have root that there are cost-free alternatives. But probably I have just to admit that you seem to be good at selling. I usually don't like people who are good at selling.

First, I developed and posted my app on Play Store before I even saw this forum thread with its reference to resigning apps. So I was not aware at the time.
Second, I still have not even tried to confirm that the re-signing approach will work (although I can see that it might). I will take the word of the person who posted this technique that it does indeed work. But I now have a solution that I like and use. So I have no real need to find and test other solutions.
Third, there are often many possible solutions to a given problem. In fact, my original approach to this particular problem was done via Tasker and shell scripts. It worked but was not particularly user friendly. I tried to remedy that in my app. It seems you are saying that a person (me) choosing to implement one possible solution must also run down, verify, and advertise all other approaches. If so, I think that is a bit ridiculous and would appreciate a list of examples of app authors who are doing this who you do "believe and support." I do not think it is very common.
Fourth, I found this thread via a google search. I think it is fair to believe others will as well if they are seeking alternative approaches. So they too can learn about the resigning approach and decide for themselves how to proceed. I never claimed (here on in my app) that mine is the only approach. I never say it is the "best" approach. I do not denigrate proponents of other approaches. I only implemented one approach that seemed reasonable to me. I posted here so others who suffer from this weakness in Play Store can, if they wish, can check it out for themselves. Play Store gives buyers 2 hours or so to test the solution and decide if it works for them. If not, they are free to return the app and cancel the sale and charge.
Fifth, if you check my list of apps on Play Store, you will see that they are all very small apps and all are either free or very low cost. All of these apps were the result of my trying to resolve situations that I found personally irritating. I then thought that maybe others would find them useful as well. If you look at the number of installs for all of my apps combined, I think you will find that I am NOT at all good at "selling". Indeed, if the net proceeds from all of my paid apps combined exceeded much more than $300 total it would be a miracle. With programming, testing, and support time this likely works out to be maybe $0.10 per hour. I figure the market for this app will be no larger than my previous apps and at $1 per sale, it will be a while before I can use the proceeds to buy even a six pack of beer (especially after Google takes their cut). So I can hardly be considered a successful salesman. If only that were true! I do sell some of my apps. But truth be told I really do this, not for the money, but so I can show some revenue to the tax authorities so they permit me to write off some computer-related expenses.
I am sorry you feel "betrayed" by me somehow. And I am sorry that you have somehow decided that you don't like me for the rather limited reasons you have managed to list here. I really do not think I have given you or anyone else cause to reach such conclusions. It really makes me kind of sad. But you are entitled to your opinions and I will leave it at that as I walk away in wonder.
You admit that you googled where you could post ads for your app, did not even have a look what was last written in the thread and then sent your ad? In my opinion that IS Spam, nothing else ...
So thank you for the offer, and for staying away from this thread in future. For everyone who needs a good working solution free of cost and less use of resources but with a bit more manual handling of apk-files, have a look at posting #13 of this thread.

Thank-you! That worked like charm!!
Hey everybody,
First of all I'm sorry for my english, because it's not my native language, But I really need your help and I'll try to formulate the best.
So I've got a brand new Honda Civic (Hatchback 5D 1.5L 2021) and I did know about all the functions with Android Auto app, And basically I'm ok with that...
But just recently I was informed about a nice app called "Honda Hack" which of course I tried to install it.
So I saw a lot of youtube videos to understand how it works, and I bought the app for 25$ and started to do the same steps I saw in the videos in my own car.
the problem you can see in this attached picture in this post...I've reached to the right place and needed to press on a button called "Cancel Android Restrictions", which I need to do it to enable the browser, before I can download the app, but you can see it doesn't exist.
My guess is before you get a car in my country, it has some changes, but I didn't expect that one of the changes will be delete/hide this specific button.
Well I think I should check this out before I paid for the app (And now I'm trying to get a refund)...But still I really want to install it.
Anyone know how to install Honda Hack even though?Or how can I make the button "Cancel Android Restrictions" appear to continue the installation?
hello
are you using a laptop to install?
and
have you unlocked the developer mode prior to the Honda Hack steps?
