Music in headphones quality in lumia 900 ?? - Nokia Lumia 900

on small question....
Is the music playback quality as bad in Lumia 900 as the Lumia 800 was when i had it in the beginning ??
haven't tried Lumia 800 after the latest updates, but just ordered Lumia 900 as i miss WP7,5 and it's the only one i like with big ass screen and nice design...

its definitely not on par with iphone 4s, little better than my Galaxy SII not as good as the Nexus S. the headphone jack lacks power is very low. It could not handle my Monster Turbine Copper headphones, have to use my ATH-CKM55.

Having migrated from Galaxy Nexus for a week or so, I am happy with how my Lumia 900 performs except the headphone. It is a little heavy on the bass side and lacks clarity on the mid to highs (compared to the relatively brighter "signature" of the Galaxy Nexus).
I am just an amateur, don't make your decision wholly on my comments. I am using Westone UM3x or Sennheiser mx550 depending on the situation.

It's good but it lacks sound stage. Sound quality for me goes like this.
Cowon J3, Galaxy S with Voodoo Sound, iPhone 4S, G2X Voodoo Sound, Zune HD, Lumia 900, Galaxy SII.

sound quality is good but lumia 900 do not have the sound app like HTC... and my beats Dr. Dre tour pro do not work as headset only as headphones... nokia told me they do not support right now...
over all i am happy with the sound, as my last phone was HD7.

No, is not even near it. Maybe you will not hear the difference if you use some crappy headphones or any of the Dre line,,, but with good headphones the difference is noticeable.

I'd say the Lumia 900's sound quality is 'decent'.. but not anywhere near a Zune HD with EQ enabled.
I hope MS would include EQ settings on the next OS update.

[Q] Audio chip/Beats

i've read that the Beats Audio, which i'm not a fan of, is just EQ for more bass. i have Sennheiser IE8s and come from a Cowon player that was sold. i also just sold my Galaxy SII, and it did not have good music quality at all. that's extra sad because of the built-in FLAC support. the type of music i listen to is mostly bass/ukg/electronic/"dubstep" and i need good bass, but also want the rest of the sound to be good. my question is regarding the full audio quality, not just bass EQs, and if it will be good or should i keep a new Cowon player in my Amazon cart?
http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/13/htc-sensation-xe-with-beats-audio-review/
In my opinion, you're not going to beat cowon on sound quality, it's just not going to happen.
I listen to dnb, dub, hardcore etc and I love the extra bass I get with beats headphones and which a specialised eq in the one x will only enhance it further. But for clarity in your music you should stick with the cowon player.
When I get bored of the bass I use my sansa clip, flac support and ridiculously good sound for such a small and cheap device. I also recommend that one vs the cowon
Thanks for the Engadget link. It was just what I was looking for and confirmed that Beats is marketing hype and no magic. Thankfully the rest of the package is substantial and so I've preordered
All depends what music you listen to, ive owned really expensive earphones in the past & not all ranges of the music I personally listen to were great.
If you listen to, house, hardcore, dance, trance & R&B - beats offers fantastic sound quality.

the beats headset sounds pretty good when paired with the EQ built into the phone, but as a stand alone the headset sucks. Im not too sure how it would fare when u plug in a decent IEM into a phone with beats though
3 have been told that any headphones will take advantage of beats

I work at Carphone Warehouse and one of my colleagues got a hands on yesterday of a One X white, he said it was EPIC! But confirmed that they will NOT come with i/u beats in the box, just standard headphones.
As already said not the end of the world as it's built into the phone, so we can use our better quality headphones/earphones etc!
Beats is a huge marketing gimmick for HTC
Monster headphones are half-decent bass-driven headphones, and have been making them for years. They're regularly tipped for "budget" buys (with the likes of the Monster Turbine, etc)
Sticking the Beats logo onto their headphones turned them into a fashion statement, and meant they could follow the "fashion" pricing rules (a la Bose etc.)
If you want headphones with great bass, look at the audiophile websites either:
a) buy a pair of non-Beats branded Monster buds which will save you a wad of cash
b) buy something different (I settled on a pair of Shure SE215s and haven't looked back).
Amen - Gimmiky gimmick for people who care more about 'the brand' and its ostentatious crap than spending the 60 seconds it would take to find out how overpriced they are.
Same with the beats software/hardware. It's just an EQ. All this crap about 'music how it's meant to sound', 'as the artist intended' etc. So you really think beats audio is going to improve Chopin or Eric Whitacre? Or maybe it'll just unnecessarily boost the low/high frequencies so it sounds over-hyped and cack.
I got the Panasonic RP-HJE900 Zirconia earphones about a year ago, and they're great. Bullet-proof too.
In this video we can see headphones that comes in the box .

Yep, as said before, gimmicky stuff it is. I've got mid-range Sennheisers and am very happy. They've been to the washing machine thrice already and still work great, lol. When plugged in standard htc buds I couldn't believe how awful the sound was...

Quality head phones

I am wondering whether its worth purchasing an expensive night quality pair of head phones for my new galaxy note?
I'm sure the sound driver on this unit is a Yamaha produce and its very poor and wouldn't produce high enough quality for top spec head phones anyway.
am I correct? I would like to hear your views!

I tested some earphones on my dad's Galaxy Note. (UE triple fi 10 and Super.Fi 4vi)
For mp3 format songs, a middle class earphone is okay...
In my opinion, HTC machines have better sound quailty
You can achieve a reasonable quality with the Note. Definitely not on par with other audio sources but this is what I do. Rip music at 320 bit rate.
Headphones. Try and make sure the ohms is under 32. Most portable are, but 16 ohms is better for the Note as it doesn't go naturally as loud as I would like. Then look at the sound pressure level. You preferably need a score of over 108db.
The top end sennheiser IE8 have incredible measurements. And consequently go loud and dynamic and punchy bass with ease. But they are very expensive.
I don't think the Note needs expensive cans, but don't buy inefficient headphones. They won't go loud and will lack dynamics.
I've got some mid range sennheiser in ears, and I'm extremely happy with the quality.

I fully admit, although I love music, I certainly wouldn't class myself as an audiophile, and may well have damaged my ears through the years, so they might well sound crap. For me they're fantastic

I use the Senn HD215 closed back units and find them pretty good from the Note for mp3 bitrates above 192kbps.
i have the creative x-fi headphones. the x-fi crystalliser improves the audio quality enough for me to be happy enough with it. it doesnt compare to the surround sound system i have in my room, but its good enough.

Neutron MP
Instead of rushing out to buy headphones, I would suggest upgrading the music player to Neutron MP, first.
The UI is not very good, but the sound quality is fantastic! Volume is increased to a point that will hurt your ears, if you want. I have compared it side by side on my Note and previously, on my Dell Streak 5. Neutron MP wins every time. The difference in sound quality is quite noticeable.
Finally, Dmitry, the developer, is very knowledgeable, extremely responsive to his forum or emails, and is constantly updating and improving an already great product. He has a SGSII which is very similar to our Note so he is developing directly for us!
I am a very satisfied user!!!

Depends on what kind of music you listen... Beats are a piece of crap for the price. I use a pair of Westone 4R, and even though I have an ipod video which is better for music than the note, the note is good enough, specially with playerpro.
The Monster Turbine are better than the Beats, for a similar price and same manufacturer. Otherwise, you can check Shure 840 for a full size can and medium prized or the ATH M50 for the best bang for the buck headphone out there.

Remember, all you need is
I got 2 headphones.
Sennheiser M550 (Bluetooth)
Sennheiser HD650
I have a pair of JH16 Pros from JH Audio for reference listening, and a pair of Shure SE530s for everything else.
The Yamaha DAC in all current Galaxy phones is garbage, so you might as well get a cheaper set if you'll only be using them with your Note.
I installed DSPManager and bought a pair of noise cancellation headphones from AblePlanet;

Lumia 900 - audio quality?

Can any owner of new Lumia tell me about audio quality? Does it sounds better than Lumia 800? Nokia said that they've changed something in hardware in 900, and since I didn't found any review that covers audio I hope you will help me.
Your audio review is here from WMpoweruser.com
never heard the 800, the audio is okl, not better than my DVP. still need to check the headphone jack output. Its sad to know the quality, seeing that Nokia was known for its loud audio. Why remove something good that you were known for.
It's been fantastic. A little off topic, but my reception is much better as well. I've never had reception in my house or my office that was stable, now I'm rocking 2-4 bars. Nokia ftw.
Speaker sound is loud but it has that tin effect.

whats with sound through earphones?
Lumia 800 had problems with sound quality before update.
Lumia 900 has so far gotten nothing else than praises for it's sound quality. Talking about sound through 3.5mm jack.
I made two test calls on both the 900 and the Titan 2. Both sounded loud and great (and without the background crackle of the Titan 1).
so the consensus seems the qudio quality is better/improved vs the 800? is there confirmation anywhere from nokia that hardware has indeed been modified/adjusted to improve things?
Speaker phone is loud and clear. Over earphones plenty loud and clear. I find the ear piece sounds a bit crap. More sound travels straight up than into your ear. A bit muffled as well. I'm thinking of swapping for another to be sure it's not my copy.
I found that in-call sound is dependent on the placement of the phone to your ear. Sometimes the sound will be quiet and I can move the phone a tiny bit and suddenly its plenty loud. Its like the earpiece speaker is super-directional.

Good to hear that the speaker is at least loud and clear, since the past couple phones i've owned (nexus one, galaxy nexus, omnia 7) had pretty quiet speakers. Still considering purchasing this phone, so that at least helps the decision a bit.
Lumia
Actually I find my Lumia 900 far the best from the phones I have used within last year. I can compare to Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Note, Lumia 800, BB9900 and iPhone 4s. Lumia is closest to iPhone 4s considering earpiece loudness and 3.5 output quality. Galaxy Nexus for example was really poor. In loud environment even on max level I had a problem sometimes to understand. Nokia is loud, on max could be a bit clearer but OK. In terms of 3.5 output, I found it excellent quality, similar to iPhone. Very Good actually, far better then Galaxy Nexus.

How's the original Samsung headphones provided in the package? Good or bad?

Hey guys.
I want to know your opinion on this...
What do you think of the stereo headphones with mic that are included in the Galaxy Note package? My Galaxy Note is black, yet it came with white headphones... guess that's what everyone gets. Although, I saw original Note headphones that are BLACK on the internet... Oh well...
At first, I thought they'd be rocking, since I previously owned a Galaxy Nexus and let me tell you, the headphones that came with it were better than the pair of A4Tech MK-650 I have been using. I wasn't expecting Samsung to have taken such an ugly turn and make the headphones so bad for the Note! They did it perfectly for the Nexus, and now I think I know the reason : it was Nexus, Google thing... with standards...
Of course, when I sold my Nexus, I gave the headphones with it... Didn't think the ones for the Note will be this crappy!
1. They don't stay in my ear properly. Even tried the larger rubber "plugs", even the ones from A4Tech... It's about the headphone's construction itself : it's made not to fit perfectly over your ear...
2. Quality sucks. I can't listen to music with these. At least not drum & base .
So, how are you feeling about your headphones? Maybe I got a bad pair... or maybe that's just the way they are, crappy (I go for that one)...
Also, if just by chance you are using or have used a pair of Galaxy Nexus headphones on the Note and worked... I'd like to know . I'm ready to pay 10 extra bucks for a new pair of Galaxy Nexus headphones, just so they don't fall off from my ear when I'm talking to somebody...

I tried two pairs of Dr. Dre (not the same, one was Stereo one was Mono or something, looked pretty much alike, but were different) at a showroom a few weeks ago... They were the kind of headphones that you put over your head, and they rest on your head, you know... The big kind of headphones. Oh well...
They sounded nice... but when I activated Bass Enhancement in Music Player, they started to buzz and crack and buff and prr... lol.
So... Beats by Dr. Dre... excellent at bass... nope.avi. My A4Tech MK-610 I'm using right now are better .

It's funny. Everyone's saying that the iPhone/iPod headphones rock. I tried them... they're meh. I mean, I got used to in-ear headphones... all other headphones that are normal, not in-ear (like the iPhone ones, for example)... I feel like they're hurting my ear, lol.
The sound quality was pretty nice... although not as crisp as with the in-ears I'm using (naturally).
I'm planning to buy a pair of those headphones for my girlfriend, actually. She doesn't like in-ears. Also, those iPhone headphones have a mic, and it worked with every Android device I tried, so...
Her pair of original HTC headphones got... f***ed up. Left headphone leaks current, rofl.
In my opinion...all the headphones I got with Samsung devices SUCKED...
Extremely poor sound, uncontrolled, random bass boosts and drops... They're definitely not for the audiophile, but more for the conversationalist, who wants to clearly hear the person on the end of the line when...say...driving or walking down the street.
The ultimate sound I was able to get out of my Note was through Sennheiser CX 400 in-ear headphones, along with Power Amp (and a few tweaks there). I'm betting it's even better with something like Sennheiser IE8's, but those are pretty pricey

Scribbled from my Note coupled with the best (CleaNote) ROM and (NoteCore) kernel by g.lewarne
My headphones broke so I was forced to jar these before I brought some more.
At first I was cringing at how poor they were, especially as the stock ROM output such poor quality sound.
I forced myself to listen to them and can confirm that they burn in an incredible amount, its like they are a different pair of earphones. The highs are tighter and the mid range has improved a lot. The bass is ok if you get a good fit, and I found if you get some good eq setting on power amp it does a world of good.
IM at the stage now whether I think I need new headphones, I listened to some burned in audio technica m50s and they didn't have the pronounced treble these have, although the bass was tighter.
I've owned shure and klipsch earphones before and although they're not as good as the shures, they're probably not far off the klipsch right now.
The added bonus of a built in Mic and controls is also really useful

I was so offended that they were white. My SGS2 stock headphones were black. I had to buy a black headphones just so no one would confuse me from having an iPhone from a far. Apple can suck my Note.
IMO, any and all stock headphones people get are an excuse by the manufacturer for throwing something in. The regular person might say otherwise (that is, if they're not serious about their audio, i'd be more than happy to agree with them) but to these tin ears, they suck a**. The bass through the headphone jack is very poor, even with Viper and sound mod's. Comparing it to the Galaxy Nexus and it sounds a ton better. Cheap DAC probably? Wouldn't mind a developer to develop a mod that will really push the nexus 7's bass to the limit lol.

Man their HD 201's, 24OHM lol
Lol at people driving big cans without amps. (Yes there is even bigger)
Try a 8ohm phone and listen how much better it sounds.
Besides 201's aren't known for their bass. Set up to 202s. Or at least properly drive them.
Used my device with my Grado SR80i's (32Ohm), Sennheiser HD-25 II (70 OHM) and with a professional concert PA system. The bass is fine on all 3 platforms. Make sure you turn off any EQs or DSPs in the phone, those are usually ****.
I can't say I use my Nexus 7 for music that much as I tend to listen via my phone, but I didn't think the sound output was particularly bad to say it is a tablet, even with a generic pair of cheap earphones. Perhaps if you want super bass and unrivalled fidelity you should consider maybe a hi-fi? Just saying...
Most probably, if you want more bass, it's unnaturally much bass anyway. Just like people who want (and are used to) totally oversaturated AMOLED displays and find accurate displays "pale"...
