Question...im kinda new to flashing roms etc..im having a issue with backing up my roms...everytime i back one up and tey to go back to it it will not let me, i get a md5 error everytime..can some one please tell me what im doing wrong??
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Are you renaming the saved roms in a file manager? That can cause the md5 error. Second suggestion would be to do ur backups via recovery and skip doing it thru the app.
Sent from GalaxyS2 using xda premium
No, I have not renamed them at all. I save it and move on. I will try the other way and see. Its not a huge deal because i can re-flash it i just hate having to set it all back up..thanks ill try it.

check your storage memory
Backup in recovery skip the app it just causes more problems. I haven't used it in a couple years now.

For all my backups and restore, I'll reboot into recovery menu and complete it from there.

And when you restore a backup, go thru recovery just the same way as you did the backup.

Hey XDA! I need some help. I am trying to recover 3 Images that I really need. I backed up using clockworkmod backup, before I installed Darkside ICS. Is it possible to get those images from the nandroid backup?

So I want to flash a CM9 ROM to just have fun with, but I also want to keep my Darkside as an emergency backup cause it's completely stable and I have it exactly how I want it. So what I'm asking is if I made a backup up my Darkside, could I rename it Darkside with a file explorer or does that break the back up? Our is there any certain kinda things I have to have with the name when I rename it?

I will work fine i think just don't change the format.

Nope. You can actually use from manager to rename them if your not confident.

You have to use rom manager to rename your backups i did it all the time

And with twrp backups root explorer works for that one

Sorry for the noob question. I was wondering, if I rename my nandroid backups, will I still be able to restore them? When I had my Photon, I would get all the way to the end of restoring a Nandroid backup and it would fail. It did it for all my renamed backups. Just was wondering if it's the same for the GS3?

Should be AFAIK, linux just tends to stumble on spaces in file names if you don't escape them. I always follow the name scheme of ROMX.DATE so for cm10 I have CM10.8.31.2012, hope that helps.

Basically was doing a restore after a full wipe. I noticed the restore went allot faster then normal. I figured it was because the new twrp update speeded it up some how. I didn't get a failed message. Umm, no. It was a bad backup. I went to hit restore again and instead did a reboot. The phone was stuck on the Samsung white screen. With wish and truth helping, we got the phone into download mode and using Odin flashed the cwm recovery tar file. Then got the the phone into recovery and flashed a ROM I had on my card.
Moral of the story. If it doesn't seem right dont follow through with it and always keep a working ROM zip on your card. It was totally my fault.
Just noticed, that restore was only 506mb. I ran out of space.

Let me start be saying be very carefully using the new twrp. I have tons of space now. Just tried to do a backup. It finished in 0 seconds, no fail message. I think I know what I'm doing and that is broke.

Hey so tell us what recovery you like and don't like and why?
I was using twrp but stopped because it screwed up my phone and was having problems flashing some Roms. I just don't think it does a clean wipe just works to fast..... So far clockwork cleans ,wipes more securely and have no problems flashing Roms...

I see this thread getting out of hand and going south quickly. I'm gonna request a mod step in and make a bold suggestion to people on how to keep it clean and not go south. Also make a poll for the thread, makes it look better and more official..
I prefer TWRP, I've been on it since I got the S III (May of '12). I test roms for 3 devs on this phone, and never had an issue. I used to use CWM on previous phones and never had issues there either. I just prefer TWRPs UI.

I've used both and like both, settled on twrp mainly because I find it a little easier to use. CWM looks nicer IMO. I dont' think you can go wrong with either.
I prefer TWRP but with the 4.2+ ROMs I flashed that have the 0 file I have to use CWM.
I'm sure there's something I can do to fix this but I've tried via Google search and have only has luck with CWM. So here I am.

I use twrp because you can name your back up files. That's probably the only reason I use it. It's UI is more friendly because of the buttons and I'm pretty sure you can theme it now, but I haven't tried that feature yet

Yes, that had happened to me multiple times as well, restoring of backups failing. For that reason I stick to CWM for now. Otherwise IMO TWRP is superior.

I do not backup and restore very often, but twice I have made a backup and restored because I was testing a ROM...but both backups failed and left me to clean flash my ROM again.
