This thread is intended to gather and organize the docks, chargers, and other accessories we have built for the Galaxy Nexus. (Sorry, but I got tired of digging through the "Der, which case shud I get, yo?" trash threads). Some of were frustrated with a lack of proper manufactured accessories, others love to tinker. Whatever the cause, I hope it serves as inspiration to others. I will try to keep it updated, but feel free to post any I missed. Here we go....
Update: adding some off site projects and resources (droid life, droid forums, gnex forums, rootzwiki...)
Update: added descriptions and compatibilities

Great idea, now it will be easier to follow some of these threads rather than looking for them all individually.
I don't think this warrants its own thread so I'll stick it in here.
I was tired of my VZW Gnex slipperiness (I came from a Droid1) and I stumbled across this youtube.

I sprayed on a few clear coats of Plasti Dip on my battery cover and now it's really grippy. It also peels right off if I ever get tired of it.

I suppose we can start a tips & tricks section with that.

Are there any accessories you would like to see, but don't exist, that idle hands could be working on, list them up here. Hopefully projects can collaborate and inspire one another.
Bump for coolness... Also pm'ing for a sticky.
good day.
Thank you, good Sir Chopper.
Updates and some reorganization. I also have some more of my own projects in the works...stay tuned.

I like the nice thread of all the stuff i might buy a car and desk dock
One thing i would like to work on is a case probaly an inexensive TPU case some how incorporate a fan in to it to keep the phone nice and cool when charging and working it to the bone.
I saw some special casing for a tablet that you can fit stuff into on youtube, maybe i could make my own.
I know there are usb powered fans like this and this. That's the easy part. The hard part will be making a heatsink for it to blow across. Just blowing on the back cover wont help much unless its a metal (thermally conductive) cover. But I'll roll it around my noggin' to see what I come up with...
OP here's a new USB charging dock llennium modified from the Nexus S desk dock.

Yupdates! A special one from me too!
I periodically seach for "Gnex + DIY" for new material for the workshop. Sometimes, I come across **** like http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIY-Bling-Diamond-Rabbit-Mirror-Hard-Case-Cover-Samsung-Galaxy-Nexus-i9250-/280915422107 . Thoughts?
That doesn't belong here
P.S. Great job on the thread :good:
This saved me hours of search. thanks!
I must say it's an honor to have my DIY dock included in this sticky. Thanks!
No prob. Without builders making the content, this would just be a catalog of....nuthin

Hi,
Ordered my Orbit, and looking forward to it - may have finally got an XDA that I'll keep long term. Have had II, IIi, S, mini, Exec, so it would be nice if so!
My first post for a while - as usually the info I want I can find in a search. Except this one!
I'd really like a case for the Orbit - either a skin-type, or the alum' one. However I also need a car holder for it, with tough UK no-mobile-phones in cars rules insisting on this. Ideally one with a power speaker & mic, like the up-coming Seidio.
The question - does anyone know of a case/car holder combo that works together without having to remove the PDA from the case? I know you can get the cases with a magnetic back and corresponding holder, however would rather avoid this approach if possible.
Oh - and just to clarify, the case needs to still be pocket sized, so the usual large clip things sticking out the back will be no good. Maybe someone has "invented" their own solution? I figure the alum' one is modifiable, so am thinking that may be the best bet - just need some ideas for mounting! (esp' bearing in mind would like a active powered holder).
Thanks all!
I think you will struggle to find an active mount with speaker due to the audio output being part of the mini USB connector on these devices.
Take a look at Brodit 848714 for a passive holder or Brodit 968714 for an active version (charging only). These are just the holders, you will need a Pro-Clip to suit your vehicle, I also recommend a "Move it" clip between the Pro-Clip and the holder, it makes removal quick and efficiant, leaving just the small pro-clip in the vehicle (less chance of some low-life breaking in because a mount is on show). - These are quality holders, not the cheapest, but then do you want your new toy flying around the car due to a crappy mount?
For the audio output you could use Bluetooth - I have had my Artemis connected via BT and playing through the car stereo, a little low in volume but the quality was very good - Mike
Cheers Mike,
I've already got the brodit system - used it with both the IIi and S, so have the bracket etc. The brodit holders will not allow for any type of case (skin, alum, etc) - and I cannot see how to modify them to suit. The brodit bracket itself is just a platform, so have used with many other holders.
The Seidio case I refered to is (yet to be released):
http://www.handnav-hosting.co.uk/product_details.php?id=2373
I guess what I'm hoping for is a brand that makes a case, plus a compatible car holder that supplies at least power.
Worse case I'll most likely get alum pdair case, stick a magnet to the back, and just plug in a charge cable each time (and use bluetooth car-kit).
Thanks,
My solution
I have a siemens hcw600 bluetooth car kit - works superbly if you install jetware and the address book swap. DId this on my Mini S and now on my new Orbit...
I also got a standatd multi-way pda adapter off eby... if you get one with adjustable feet on the bottom, put the Orbit in, connect the usb, then slide the feet tight up to the usb... then add a few strategic drops of superglue to the feet and usb, and you have a fixed connector... this also works if the unit is i a case - just make sure its in the case and positioned before you clue the usb to the holder....
Great sounding tip - may give that a go! I did notice that the Orbit is now thin (width) enough to fit lots of mobile phone holders on their widest setting.
Going to review one of these new PDAHut mounts in the mean time.... Will let you know what it's like.

I completed my dock project!
Nice work!
Took me half a day since i don't really have proper tools haha
Used Plasticine to secure the pogo pins as i'm not confident gluing it down
But it works
I'm looking for an inexpensive charging dock for my T999 that will be compatible with my slim case because I'm hoping that having the phone semi vertical will resolve the issue I'm having with intermittent missed calls when it lays flat on my metal nightstand.
The case adds ~2mm side to side and ~2mm front to back, both measured at the base of the screen. Any functions beyond charging would be great (activating dock mode, extra ports, etc).
Thanks!
RND Power Solutions Deluxe Cradle / Desktop Docking Station for Samsung Galaxy S III
OK, next question. Just what is dock mode? I can't seem to find any pics, vids, or a decent description of it. The only info I can find seems to indicate that aftermarket apps are better than what Samsung gave us.
I finally have access to a 3D printer where I work and was asked to throw test uses out for it and try to pull it to it's limits. We typically use it to print out models of the 3D art our designers make. It's awesome for that.
I used it to print this dock that someone designed and posted over at thingiverse. I think it came out great in black ABS plastic. Haven't slotted a USB cable in to it yet but will when I get home (no cables that fit it here in the office. It has a hole and slot to route the cable out the back. It holds the phone in portrait mode. I use the Ringke Slim case (which I don't recomend since it scratches the phone but hell, i already own it) and it seems to sit nicely in the dock. :good:

What do you think. How would you change it?
Nice! I would add short side walls to keep the phone from falling over and out of the dock and would make a second one wider with a lower back for landscape mode. I would also think about building in a space for a QI charger coil and board inside the back plate to have it double as a wireless charger.
Improvements?
Perhaps have the back hollow and wide enough to slip the 'official' Wireless charging pad in, and also ones like the pURL=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nokia-DT-900-Wireless-Charging-Plate/dp/B009WKGNB4]DT-900[/URL], and between the charger and phone be slim enough to actually charge the phone (most have a 5mm range)
Could you make me one? Only thing i would suggest is added small walls to the sides so it doesn't slide right off. Maybe make a variant with a space for a wireless charging puck?
Once the charger is in place it won't slide side to side.
That being said, i can find a charger that fits. The creator used one made by Nokia... Seems it would be more helpful to the community if he used a cheaper, easily attainable Monoprice or Amazon Basics cable.
http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-WCP-300-Wireless-Charging/dp/B00C6VP03I
This should fit
I would lose the flat bottom allowing it to sit on irregular surfaces and also saving more materials. Looks great already though.
So, I picked up a Droid Turbo recently and decided I couldn't live without a wireless charger / mount.
I am a junkie for DIY stuff like this, and have many parts and pieces lying around. I am by no means saying this is a cheap alternative for purchasing some of the awesome chargers available on Amazon or eBay, but instead want to provide this as inspiration for those with disposable pieces as well.
Items Required:
-Cell Phone Mount - (I used http://smile.amazon.com/Arkon-iPhone-Smartphone-Handlebar-Samsung/dp/B00FQJCVSE/ref=dp_ob_title_wld)
-Small Qi Wireless Charger - (I used http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IQTGY2A?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage)
-Rare Earth Magnets - (for the top part that holds the phone secure) - (something like: http://smile.amazon.com/Applied-Mag..._sbs_60_3?ie=UTF8&refRID=1AE5XMNQDAVBPKR3AVXX)
-Flat magnet to put in back cover or case of phone - (I used piece from: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B008IOQ3K6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage)
-Cutting Device - (I used big-ass garden shears)
-Epoxy, or the like
-Duct Tape - (I used Gorilla Tape)
-Paint - (I used under-body noise dampening rubberized paint)
And of course, a cell phone with wireless charging capabilities.
Notes about pics:
I wish I had taken pics along the way, but I really didn't think it was going to turn out as well as it did. I also didn't realize it was going to turn out looking like a little android - man - thing.....
I measured up EXACTLY where the wireless charging pad was compared to the receiver before gluing it in place. This is a very important step.
I decided to put the flat magnet piece behind the "M" on the back of the Turbo, and placed the rare earth magnet at the android man "head" of the mount. The magnet needs to be pretty damn powerful to keep phone in place.
There just happens to be a gap at the "neck" where you can see the light from the wireless charger coming through as well. Another unplanned bonus...
Ask questions if you like. Good luck on your project!
