[Q] How to root Galaxy Ace 2 i8160? - Galaxy Ace II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys,
I just bought this week the new Ace 2 i8160.
It is a really great phone- I mean not the dimension ;-)
Yes, after a week usage I would like to root it for use some apps like in former times. I tried to root with the old Ace methodic, but it does not works.
Do have anyone an idea, how could be root the phone?
For your answers thank you lot!

mate this is ACE 1 forums so asking here is pointless ..wait for Ace 2 forums to come up...
.anyways try GINGERBREAK - its a universal gb root app
and do report if it works .....i m sure there will b more guys asking this question

Wrong section.
I'm moving this to General Q&A Section.

Yes I know, this is an Ace 1 forum, but I can not wait for opening a new thread for Ace2... ;-)
Well, I tried gingerbreak, but does not works. It runs still exploiting and nothing happens. I made all things, as in instructions described, but not works :-(
I tried even yet from the rooting instructions for Galaxy W i8150, because the model number is similar (8160 for Ace2,8150 for Galaxy W) , and both phones looks similar too.
But it don't works :-(
I got an error message "signature verification error"

Did you try superoneclick?
I'm very curious about this device, and I'm considering getting one... I find somehow strange the cpu: a dual core 800mhz is unusual. Is it possible that this cpu's clock is higher and is underclocked via software?

The Ace 2 is very new and i searched for a while in the internet
Rooting this device is not possible at the moment!!!!!!!
Even not with apps like gingerbreak or superoneclick oder z4 root they never worked like they should so you can close the thread and wait until somebody found a way to root it

We should here collect our experiences about rooting the Ace 2. If somebody have some news about rooting, can post that here.

The cpu is really powerfull. The chipset is NovaThor U8500, with an ARM dual Cortex - A9 cpu at 1ghz (in sga2 it is underclocked to 800mhz), and the powerfull arm mali 400 gpu! More info here: http://www.stericsson.com/products/u8500-novathor.jsp

Hello antms,
at first thanks lot of for your work.
I did not try it, because I had concern to brick the phone...
Could the phone brick due this methode?
I mean, to loose the warranty is not the problem. I'm sure, one day is it solved to unroot, but to brick the phone would be not funny...

Generally, i don't belive with it, since kernel image doesn't affects on bootloader, which implements download mode.
But since i don't have SGA2 and can't test it personally, i can't take responsibility to say about 100% safety of this method.
We need a braveheart hero

Ok, maybe i'll test it. But! What will happen if something go wrong? I'll need to flash a new firmware? But how? If it may be flashed with odin, where can I get a rom?

there is still a safer method??
as other phones that will install a zip from recobery?
I also I have it and I would like root.
thanks for everything.

Just flash stock kernel back (I8160XXLD3_original.tar.md5).
If you are looking for a firmware, you can get it at http://samfirmware.com (type i8160 in a search field).

Stock recovery usually performs signature verification for every zip-package. If the package is not signed by Samsung, then it will not be applied.

Firstly, Nitro HD is low end already. Take note of it. It is single cored(If im not wrong), and also, its already 2 years old.
And buying it is up to you. If you want it as a spare phone, which it is preferably one.

First off yes its 1 1/2 years old but has never been low end. It is one if not the most powerful phone made in the Nov '11 - April '12 time frame. Secondly the Snapdragon DUAL CORE WITH ADRENO DUAL CORE graphics was also one of the most powerful made that was only surpassed by the newer quad core processors this phone is no slouch. The software platform is very mature and has a great developing community. If you want the latest and greatest look elsewhere but be depending on what money you spend you will have quite a beast on your hands.

If you are talking about unlocking the sim, that can only be done with a stock ROM. You can root stock ICS with ease but if you want root AND a custom recovery then you need to use the unbricking guide due to the ICS boot loader being locked.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044645
This guide works best on a win xp computer. However if you have win 7 there is help within the pages of that guide that can provide that help. Good luck.

Root and install a custom recovery so you can install a custom ROM. Like I said before sim unlocking can only be done on a stock ROM. To unlock go to settings, security then sim lock.
Edit sorry man thinking of something else. To unlock the sim so you can use it on a different network go to your phone dialer and out in the following code:
2945#*930#
Then select network
And input your unlock code (you only get 10 attempts before your phone is locked for good)

I think unless you were to go through the unbricking guide again. But I have never done it so I am not 100%. But I do know it has to be done from a stock ROM as the custom ROMs like cyanogen and miui do not have that capability. But as long as you are just installing ROMs through cwm you shouldn't have to unlock again.

compared to what? it has better specs than dozens of phones that came out after it with a cheaper price tag
almost every major dev team supports this phone, there is a reason for that those people are the experts that should tell you enough.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Ace II e

Hello everyone ,
I recently just got a Samsung Galaxy Ace II e, and was wondering if the same procedures/ROMs/etc apply to it as the normal Ace II (without the "e"). I wanted to root it and install custom ROMs as soon as possible, but I'm kinda worried about the extra "e" on the name. Hopefully I'm in the right device sub forum, otherwise a link to the right one would be nice . I'm no stranger to modding phones, so no need for any "newbie" comments, a straight forward answer would be appreciated . If any extra information is needed, just say so, and I'll try to provide it :good:
More details about the phone:
Samsung Galaxy Ace II e
Model #: SGH-T599V
Android Version: 4.1.2
Happy to be a new part of the Ace II community! Hope to hear from you guys soon
Lol never heard about an ace II e ?! Does anyone knows what is the difference between non e and e version?
I don't have an Ace II (without the "e"), so I can't really compare the two, hopefully someone who has one can take a look, and determine if I can go ahead with the Ace II's rooting procedures on my Ace II e. However, by looking at the specs on gsmarena, the Ace II seems to only have 800MHz dual core processor, while the "e" has 1GHz, and they have two different shapes (original has more of a squareish shape, while the e's sides are slightly rounded)
I installed CPU-Z and took screenshots to show more specifications:
Not bad specs. Like s advance with 3.8 '' screen. Can you find its chipset ?
Btw. I think you can root it with usual ace 2 method. But first check on which devblock is system partiton and report here

Could you please tell me how I can determine the chipset? I've tried Quadrant & CPU-z, but none of them seem to show that info. Plus, information about this device on the internet is scarce, gsmarena doesn't seem to have it in their catalog
Can I also get the procedure to find out the devblock?
I tried rooting the device using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2139263
but I get an invalid signature error when trying to flash the zip file - I've searched it up, and to avoid this error, I need to flash CWM - unfortunately, I couldn't find this device in their website either If someone has it (CWM for this device) , I'd really appreciate a link

yea thats a real big problem, very few phones from vm have development on them
ZTE is a company pretty much in the pocket of virgin mobile usa in the sense that they lock their devices boot system up so roming is a complete nightmare. check out the other zte branded devices by vm and youll notice outside of root..nothing has occured on those devices. and not for a lack of trying. the same goes with vm's kyocera branded devices. take a look at vm's dwindling line up of other manufacturers versus these "no brand" devices..most of them are zte or kyocera...avoid.

Root for now. Might be all there will be. ZTE devices from virgin are notorious for protected boot...unless a damn good developer like jcase or someone that capable buys or has it donated, dont expect even a recovery for it.
Yeah I doubt any roms or recoveries will come out... I'm trying to mess with the WiFi tethering just haven't had any time...

As for the phone... it is wonderful! Just as fast as an sIII but much better pics and web browsing (and no touchwiz!!!). Its no s4 or htc one, but it is one great phone... only thing- touch buttons sometimes do not work well, especially with a case, but it will get better with more use...

Rooting
The software posted here worked perfectly. Just make sure you have the USB connection set to "connect to PC software" for it to work - otherwise the program just sits there.
Hooray for adblock!
Boot sound
Now with root I was able to remove the horribly annoying Virgin Mobile boot sound - it's located in system/etc -> Bootsound_virgin.ogg - I just added bak to it. Now quiet boot!
Rooted!!! So fast an easy glad I didn't buy another HTC

Root Galaxy Tab 3 7" SM-T2100MKADBT

Hi,
I might purchase a galaxy Tab 3 7" version SM-T2100MKADBT (purchase on amazon France), but I don't understand whether or not the methods to root the tablet would apply for this version. In many posts about root (like using Odin), I see specific versions such as SM-T210.. but never the version T2100..
Will it work ?
And once it is rotoed, is it possible to revert back to stock firmware while keeping the root ? (on other tablets, I know I can do it using rootkeeper).
By the way, at equivalent cost, would you prefer a samsung galaxy tab 3 7" (with dual CPU and small screen but nice and serious brand name) or a chinese PIPO U8 with quad core and 2GB RAM but a chinese vendor and poor after-sales support.. ?

You can root it by flashing one of the custom recoveries; then flash the root zip found in the recovery thread. You don't need different firmware anymore.

I see.. well I man I'd need to find tutorial for that..
However, "flashing one of the custom recoveries".. does it mean that we lose warranty during the root process ? In ASus world, rooting does not void warranty but flashing custom recoevry does, I believe.. So do we lose warranty when rooting the Tab 3 through your method ?

Flashing a custom recovery WILL increase your flash counter and your device will show as custom. That typically results in losing warranty coverage.

I saw posts mentioning pre-rooted firmware which avoid cancelling warrantyn such as here: http://www.android.gs/use-pre-rooted-os-root-galaxy-note-3-lte-n9005/

Nice one, JB, is running smooth and quick, after reading about a ram hack on this site , which has increased my max ram to 624mb instead of
a mere 482mb I was left with after updating to JB, so for now I shall play with this until I get bored then it will be time to bite the bullet and come into the light and join the ever growing community that believe in freedom.... thanks for your help Teddytsen
