Hey HOX users
Just was wondering if their was an app on the market which can let me customize the notif led on the one x. Also one which do sent use root would be preferred. Thanks

I also...
I've only seen them for the nexus line phones.. Well except for the nexus s.. I think I might of seen a rom somewhere that tweaked the led a little but nothing too drastically. I think it was like green led for notification, flashing red for missed call or something I can't remember

I might be wrong but the led can only change red or green. It was the same with the htc desire.
We need a RGB LED notification light for various colours like in the Nexus or SGS3 or Blackberrys. I don't think we have a RGB one.

You are wrong on one count, the Desire was able to show blue, magenta and others, can't remember which mod or app i used to do it though.
Sorry don't know abt led but there is an app called "no led" which worked a charm on my sgs2. though this does not use led!

My bad, i never managed to find an app that worked.
Try light flow light it can make the notification led glow in different colors. But in our one x its of no use since our phone has only red and green led.Miss my desire for that feature it can nearly display 5 or 6 colors and i assigned a color for each different type of notification!

No LED is not a very good solution for non AMOLED screens. With LCDs the whole screen lights up, this will drain the battery faster.
HOX only has RED or GREEN
Not to question anyone, but how has it been determined that the HOX ONLY supports red and green, aside from that being all that we've seen it display? I ask mostly out of simply curiosity (if someone has looked at the actual LED, or perhaps seen code proving it), but also because I just don't understand why a manufacturer wouldn't include an RGB LED over two separate LEDs or a bi-color LED. I can't imagine the price would be that different, and the possibilities are endless. No LED is silly, a non-RGB LED is silly. Wish the manufacturers would think these simple things through more.
Still, I've had Samsung phones prior to this, so I'm used to having no LED at all, so even green and red is a big upgrade to me!
Hi
At best you might get three colours, Red, Green, or Orange, i.e. both Red and Green lit, this will give you a yellow/orange color.
However, in order to optimise the circuitry layout, the LED likely only has two connections. To switch between red or green, the voltage is simply reversed. This makes it impossible to have both LEDs on at the same time. I expect this is the case in the HOX, so Red or Green is all you can get.
Regards
Phil

Take a closer look at those LEDs. They won't be changing color at all.
The red and green actually come from different parts behind the mesh.
From this I would gather that there are just2 different LEDs behind there.

would be nice to have both flash at same time or have them blink a certain number of times or have them stay on for a few seconds or something like Morse code...
Is there any app like led me know that can use keys under the screen for notifications? that would make me so happy i have a international model with the default rom

I have a buddy that has the Nexus 1 and after he installed 2.2, his LED light would change for different notifications like,
Blue LED = Handcent Message
Purple LED = Craiglist Post
etc.....
Is this something that is implemented inside our version of Froyo?? OR is that even possible on our EVO's

Wouldn't the led's have to be physically changed to have the different colors? AFAIK our evos only have a red and a green led installed. I guess its possible I could be wrong but I don't think so....although it has happened before....hehe
Not necessarily. I would imagine it could be changed, unless there are 7 or so LEDs in the N1.
P.S. John Denks sucks.

Thats correct. Evo's only LED colors are amber and green.
Also, I believe these sort of questions belong in the Q&A section. Just a heads up for next time
EDIT: See here for details on LED Swap.

I don't think software or firmware can determine the color of an led....
You only need red, blue, green to make all the colors imaginable...since our phone only has amber and green, then theoretically we can combine those colors to make more...unfortunately, what colors could those be?

theoretically true IF you could realistically vary the intensity of the LEDs, but one LEDs are not generally that readily variable and two, they are most likely connected to digital outputs so they are either Off or On.
Will not work that way. They are individual parts and on the evo the green is angled to the left. And the amber is angled to the right...so even if you could turn them on at the same time they would not be focused to one point to blend into a different color. Give up can't be done! Unless you swap out the leds.
What about varying the duty cycle of the leds, theoretically that whould result in a color blend even though leds are angled.
However, there aren't many colors that could be created by mixing green and amber.

Interesting
On my nexus the led only blinked white, and many people challenged whether or not it can be done, but eventually there was a mod released allowing to choose between any color I wanted to track ball to glow.
But if the LEDs are in different places like stated above then I think it would be more of a challenge.
from what i have noticed with my evo. the way the LED light is set up is: A electric current flows one way to emit a green light, or it flows the opposite way to emit the amber color. This is something I have learned in a circuits class and seems logical that it would work this way. I dont think with this situation having different colored LEDs will work.

Have you tested this? A typical led is a diode where current can only flow one way, and based on the fact that the leds are displaced, it appears that there are 2 leds.
Additionally, even if only one led could be on at one time, alternating the emission while controlling duty cycle could create an effect of mixed color.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Most likely it's two leds built together. White leds can be made the same way, with a red, green, and blue diode built together. When all three are on, the color will look white.
Sent from my Ego 4G using XDA App
On CyanogenMod 6 (8/4 nightly build), the LED alternates orange and green for text messages and just orange for email and other notifications.

There are bi-color LEDs that only have 2 leads. Internally they have 2 LEDs wired in an inverse parallel configuration. You apply power one way, green... Apply power the other, yellow.
A better scenario is if the EVO has a tri-color LED (uses 3 leads), which means one set = Red, other set = Green, both sets = Yellow.
Will this phone have an LED notification light or is that just a htc thing ?

Yes, it does have a Notification light. Its where, normally, you would have hardware buttons (The bottom, instead of the top). Its hidden underneath the glass of the phone.
Anyone know the colours that it is capable of?

Well, so far we've seen it in solid green, pink (red+blue) and light blue (green+blue) so the common interpretation is it's multi-color, RGB, what have you.
It also fades in/out for added coolness.

Here's another movie that'll show how the LED is working... now with more than one color
http://thedumi.wordpress.com/2011/11/11/samsung-galaxy-nexus-led-video/
Thanks, that video is new to me too.
I am feeling more and more ridiculous each day as such a seemingly minor hardware feature starts to completely overshadow my disappointment that there's no SD card slot.
This handset needs to arrive already so I can check one out in person :\
The LED indicator is truly powerful enough to sway me toward a purchase. I sorely miss it from Blackberry days.
Yeah, it's one of the biggest things that still makes me put my retired Nexus One next to my Sensation, then sigh sadly
Oh yes! Thanks for the video. I love the nexus one's light, I can't believe more phones don't have this. I know some have tiny lights but they are... well... tiny!
Anyone has an idea how many colors does the HTC One X has for it's LED notification?
It's actually only RG LED, so only F00 and 0F0. It is also possible to make it white, I have no idea why. During the development of one of my ROMs for EVO 3D, I accidently made LED red and green simultaneously and it became pinky-white.
I would thought it HTC would've put a better one in than that
Does the job though

Hey Guys,
Just received my P8000 today and its just amazing. The only thing I am having the trouble with is the LED light. Its just not working at all. I have updated the SW, Rebooted it but I cant get it to work, I have tried testing the LED with Lightflow app but it doesnt glow. any solutions?
Let me guess: it's either white or gold.
If so, chances are that your device comes from the very first batch of P8000. And all of the phones from this batch lack that LED. There's nothing you can do, except maybe to ask your vendor for a replacement.
I myself am biting my nails while I'm waiting for my unit to be shipped, although I ordered a grey one (and supposedly not from the first batch of white and gold units only, as the rumor goes).

Its a white one indeed, this is extremely strange that certain colours dont have LED. I mean what kind of manufacturing process is that
I'm also waiting for this LED issue to settle down before ordering. I really like the phone but I definitely want it WITH the LED notification.
I will most probably buy from aliexpress. How can I ensure that the phone I buy is from the new batch and has the LED.?
buy the grey one or wait two to four weeks

Yes, for 150 buck I paid it was tough request to have LED in my phone, infact who the hell does want LED notification these days? who would ever want to know when ther's an unread message waiting or a lost call?
p.s. for 3 bucks more I would have loved to have LED in it, ****, with the chinaphone there is ALWAYS something little that you miss so much...

Siminhu
What firmware do you use?
Can anyone tell if this thing has a LED notification light? Link to picture or video?
I'm wondering the same thing. I'm also interested in knowing if it does have a notification LED, if the colors available are just amber and green, which would be consistent with other HTC phones, or if additional colors are available.
Yes it does have one below the top speaker grill. i saw a video of it blinking green but i watched so many idk which one it was.
It definitely has one at 3.23 in this video you see it flash quickly under the earpiece https://youtu.be/exsEpSnVA0A?t=201
Does the LED blink for notifications when plugged in? The last htc phone I had didn't, meaning when charging, the LED stayed solid even if there were notifications.
I sincerely hope there's an RGB LED in there or else I'm cancelling my pre-order. Between not having wireless charging, RGB LED and -possible- wobbling while using it on my desk, that's one step too much for me. I really wanted to get it and could live with a couple of quirks but this is one too many.

If it doesn't exhibit the native LED behavior you desire, I highly recommend the app Lightflow. With Lightflow you can get the LED to behave pretty much however you would like it to, though you still won't be able to get it to show colors other than amber and green if HTC hasn't provided an LED capable of other colors.

They haven't, and you're probably correct that the HTC 10 won't either, but like ombadboy, I'm hoping it finally does. It --IS-- being touted as the "perfect 10", so you never know. I'm hoping, but not expecting.
An RGB LED would be cool, but I wouldn't suspect it being there. I haven't had an RGB LED since my Blackberry. It was nice being able to set custom colors and patterns for different contacts. I've found custom vibration patterns to fill the void. but that doesn't help with true silent mode.
At least we'll be able to see the damn notification LED this time! The Droid DNA's LED was ok (the one on the back was cool but hard to see) but the decision to put the LED behind 1 out of about 50 tiny holes in the speaker grill on the M8 was awful. It's so small and hard to notice.

It doesn't have RGB. See my post up thread.
As for changing color when charging, I'd recommend using LightFlow. I believe even the free version will let you set the color to, say, amber while charging, and then green when fully charged. (I have the paid version, so I can't say for certain that the free version allows this, but I think it does. The paid version definitely does, at least on the One M8.)

Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean that if, by some chance, the HTC 10 also includes an RGB LED that a program like LightFlow may be able to make use of the RGB capabilities it possesses?
I'm going to get in touch with the LightFlow developer, to ask him what he knows about how his product functions on the Desire 626 and A9.
Thanks for that great tip!
