Are you sure they're not corrupted? You had enough space to create the backup? Also no use of invalid characters, such as spaces or asterisks?
Im pretty sure i did have space im thinking its my sd card i swapped it out for another one ima have to root my phone again.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA
Swapping out the sd card does not mean you have to re-root. If anything, copy your sd card contents to a pc > format the sd card > copy the contents back; its common that the sd card can become corrupt. In addition, you can reflash your recovery.
Are you renaming the back ups? If so then this is your problem.
You can rename them as long as the original file name is intact and there are no spaces by placing your unique identifier at the end of the original file name.
No i dont change the name of them.
And the only reason i unroot and root again is because that what i have to do i put like stock and re root cuz if i dont do that and flash another from from usb in recovery it will flash but it loads everything from the previous rom there no other way i can think of doing.

Are you partitioned? If so this is how you flash a rom wipe everything except sdcard make sure you wipe sd-ext. When you want to make a backup of that rom make sure you select System, boot, data,WiMAX,and sd ext. Then to flash New rom you wipe everything except sdcard wipe sd ext also. If your not wiping sdext that's causing the nandroid not to boot. If your talking about when you first flash a rom and all your apps and wallpaper from the previous rom ate still there that us because you setup your google account to backup and restore your settings when you sign in. To stop that flash a rom don't sign into anything go to settings>privacy and disable automatic restore and disable backup.

I'm on amonra 2.3 and when I back up my rom then try and re flash it , it stays stuck on the white htc evo screen .
Can someone help me plz

When you create a nandroid backup, I suggest doing the following, if you aren't:
1. Wipe Cache & Dalvik
2. Create the nandroid using the default settings as well as android.secure
3. Reboot to your homescreen, but know that the initial boot will take some time.
When restoring the backup, I suggest doing the following. NO, it is NOT necessary to wipe before restoring, but I do anyway.
1. Wipe EVERYTHING except the SD card.
2. Restore the backup
3. Reboot to your homescreen.
If you've renamed the FOLDER that the nandroid backups are stored in, you will NOT be able to restore until you revert to the Original Name.
If you've renamed the backups themselves, make sure you DO NOT use special characters in the name or your restore will fail.
I've been using nandroid back up for a while now but I just started having this issue .
It won't even boot tho it stays on the white htc evo screen
I have even tried flashing the rom on top of the back up but it doesn't work .
The only way I can flash a rom is by starting fresh

Seems like they may be corrupted, or incomplete.
Did you recently partition your sd card for some of the new ROMs? Not backing "sdext" up and not wiping that before restores could be causing your problems

When you make your backups, it usually has data, boot, and system checked by default... to backup your partitions, also checkmark the box next to 'sdext" ... and to wipe your sdext, from the wipe menu, scroll down to sdext and wipe it. Just be sure you don't chose sdcard
You'll notice your backups with the sdext also backed up will have a slightly different name... old ones started with BDS... which is "B"oot, "D"ata, and "S"ystem... backups with the sdext added in will start with BDES, can you guess what the "E" is?

Well backup the rom; make sure you have at least 500mb free space. Do a full wipe [factory/data, cache, dalvik cache], flash the new rom. Make sure you have more space, because the sense 2.1/3.0 can be big in backup size.
What happens when you try to flash another Rom?

I get stuck at the HTC evo 4g screen just stays white and wont boot I have wiped it numerous times and I get the same result never happend until I flashed the 1.2 stable I also did flash the vipermod and Google apps as well as available memory mod I found I had used that multiple times before as well
Wipe everything 3x, use Virus's CR super wipe after you manually wipe everything. Factory wipe, cache and delvik cache. That should clear everything out. Then flash a Rom. It sounds like something isn't getting wiped.

So because somethings not wiping properly that will give me an error telling me to view the recovery log and then prevent me from flashing different builds and making a nandroid backup I don't seem to see a link for the superwipe under virus I tried searching and i could not locate it is it on his website?

If I were you, I'd backup my SD Card, format it, repartition it, if you're using partitions, and then copy the essentials back over. Specifically, you're nandroid folder, then reflash your Recovery, which hopefully, is Amon Ra.
Then either try to reflash one of your nandroids, although if it was me, I'd just copy the ROM you want first, and then try to flash that, and it if goes well, try a nandroid you have saved.
I've had this happen twice and both times, reflashing recovery did the trick
Alright ill try thanks alot everyone I appreaciate your help ill get back to you guys hopefully with good news
Well so there's no way I could just wipe it with recovery and flash it over cause apparently I'm not the only one with this issue and somebody said it has to do with partitions of my SD card I'm trying to look into it deeper.

You don't have to partition it; first reflash your recovery via PC36IMG image, then copy your sdcard to a pc, format it, then copy the files back over, try to restore a backup, or reflash the rom.

No i wouldnt suggest doing that when u make a back up in cwm you making a backup of that rom! If your worried about your data use either
Titanium backup or
MyBackup Pro

umm...I thought CWM recovery backed up everything...including data (excluding microSD card).
So, if I restore it, it restores the original Kernel and ROM? Is that correct?
If something goes wrong, while flashing new kernels/ROMS, I can boot into recovery and just restore?
I'm already rooted, I just want to be sure before I start messing with my device.
Thaks!

you are correct the Nandroid backup built into the CWM recovery will back up everything on your phone as it is. including any ext partition on your external SD card. (will not backup your FAT partition where your normal downloads and pictures go, as this is where the backups are stored) but your ROM, all apps and their data and anything on your EXT partition (if you have one) will be backed up.
i suggest copying the clockworkmod backup folder to your computer before flashing anything else. just in case it messes up your SD card somehow.
doing the full restore will automatically restore ROM apps and data as they were when you backed up. feel free to flash as many roms as you want, just make sure to keep your backup safe. and to wipe all data in between roms as usual.
although titanium backup is amazing. and will backup apps and their data while booted inside your rom. its amazing, check it out.
Cwm backs up everthing including rom, kernel, and data. When you restore your backup it will restore your phone the way it was the moment that you backed it up.

You need to partition the SD Card if the Rom is A2SD enabled, and you want to use it. Yes it should be done before you flash the Rom. You should also find out what type of partition. Does the the Rom call for an ext.3 , or ext4 partition. If you are going to partition your SD Card you need to make a backup on the PC first. Partitioning the SD Card will wipe the card clean.

Not all Roms will work. If the Rom is built so that a2sd is enabled automatically, it will not work correctly. Things will be missing. You can have FC issues. In some cases I've had them not even Boot. So it is better to have the SD Card partitioned before you Flash if the ROM calls for it.

so where within recovery is partition actually done?
Hey guys, noob here. I am going to be flashing my phone today too.
Death by soaps mod seems to be what I am looking for, but I just want to make sure I am doing everything right.
I have turned s-off with revolutionary and backed up everything with both clockworkmod and smelkusmod and saved everything on my computer.
I am not 100% sure how to continue with partitioning and flashing though. Do you have a recommended guide partitioning and flashing with your mod? I have found some general guides, but they are for other mods and I dont want to screw anything up.

Ok. Simple.
1. Move everything on your sd card to your comp.
2. Use smelkusmod as its the best.
3. Go to partition card or something to that extent.
4. Set your desired size, 1 or 2 gigs is good enough, depending on how many apps you have/use.
5. Set swap to 0
6. Wait for it to partition.
7. Upgrade ext from 2 to 3 to 4.
8. Put all your stuff back on the sd card.
Flashing
1. Use format all/superwipe option in wipe menu of smelkus to wipe.
2. Go to flash zip or something like that.
3. Select the file and confirm.
4. Wait for it to do its thing then reboot.
Done!

Nope no need to partition again. That's done. Also you dont need to wipe for mods unless the OP states it.
For Roms, however,(what you just flashed) always do a full wipe/ superwipe and if going between versions of sense and aosp, always wipe the sd ext.
For kernels always wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing.

If you wiped the data then it was erased... formatted the partition, same thing. It's gone.
Lesson learned....
Next time, if you make a backup CWM or otherwise, before doing any ROM installs, copy the backup to the external SD Card and/or your computer. That way, if you have to, you can copy the files back to the phone and recover the previous state. I am not really sure that the CWM backup does the modem partition, cause I thought my modem was a different version and restoring did not change the version to what I thought it would be. Don't hold me to the fire on that, like I said, I may be wrong on that....
Good Luck, & Aloha!
Thanks for the lesson. Dont know why CWM didnt save the backup to external in the first place. But there is still about 1gb data missing for some reason.
