[Q] RUU Update - HTC One X

Hi
I wanted to update my HBOOT and radio to the latest version. I am currently on 1.28.720.10 and now the OTA for 1.29.720.11 is available.
After reading through the OTA Collection Thread I have realised that I need to install my RUU.
I am referring to the instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25300458#post25300458
I had a couple of questions:
1. Where can I find the endeavoru_recovery_signed.img? Is it available in the RUU? Can it be extracted the same way as boot_signed.img from RUU?
2. Does installing RUU erase / format the sdcard?

Every time I've updated using a ruu my sd card was untouched, but backup your stuff just incase

Thanks. I did take the backup, bit it was not required. And also found the recovery_signed.bin in the RUU's Rom.zip
Now I have the latest HBOOT ans radio

Not available. Get the Eclair RUU, and the Froyo OTA ZIP from Shipped ROMS. Rename the OTA ZIP to PC49IMG.zip,place on SD and reboot into bootloader. (Obviously after flashing Eclair RUU)
And whats with you multiposting and posting here? This is a Dev Related Question??
Download this RUU from here http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_142213_signed.exe
make sure you enabled debugging in your phone, connect phone to PC and follow the steps.
This will install stock eclair it will be same as brand new phone, later you can update it to Froyo. Later you can root your phone.
Note: Installing RUU does not make S-on.
You said without loosing s-off, so you must be having alpharevx s-off.
I guess you also must be having custom recovery. In such case you can just use the safe flash zips to have the stock os. They can be flashed from custom recovery just like normal custom roms.
And you can use WWE froyo ruu. There is no Indian froyo ruu presently. I think there wont be any difference between both. And you need to be aware that using an ruu will remove the custom recovery.
Alternatively, if you want Indian only, then this is the way.
First download latest Indian eclair ruu (1.25.x) and flash it [ Here you need to remember one thing, if you use the oldest eclair ruu then your touch panel won't work untill you flash the newer one ]. This gives you stock recovery but not stock hboot. This also takes you to eclair os. Now get the froyo ota for India. Rename the ota.zip to update.zip to be kept at the root of memory card. Then reboot to hboot menu and from there select recovery. This gives you a picture with phone and red triangle. Now press volume up + power. This takes you to stock recovery. Now you will see the option to apply sdcard update.zip. just do it and you will have Indian froyo stock os (but not stock hboot).
[Sorry, but renaming of ota.zip to pc49img.zip will not work AFAIK. We can find "firmware.zip" inside ota.zip. This firmware.zip contains few stock things like hboot.nb0 recovery.img radio.img. And this firmware.zip can be renamed to pc49img.zip and kept in root of sdcard (then rebooting to hboot menu) to update those things without actually updating the os.]. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Installing official 2.3 RUU over non functional Rom (S-OFF)

Hi @ all,
I know it's annoying that another one asks for installing RUU, but I'm stuck. I have Insertcoin rom installed on my desire und wanted to revert everything to stock with the official HTC 2.3 RUU.
I found out that I need to downgrade alpharev first otherwise the RUU won't install. So I did that and rebooted the phone. After rebooting it bootloops at the alpharev screen and I can't boot into the system. But wihtout booting, the RUU installer doesn't recognize the phone. Is there any possibility to start the update process without being booted up? Maybe in fastboot mode?
Solution:
I found a way by myself... I simply downloaded a 2.2 RUU startet the setup progress and searched for the rom.zip in my temp folder. I copied this rom to the phone's sd card and renamed it to PB99IMG.zip. I flashed this zip via fastboot, booted into my fresh installed froyo and started the 2.3 update progress. Unfortunately the official 2.3 RUU has no rom.zip but only a data1.cab which can't be opened by fastboot. That's why I had to do the downgrade first.
You know you can run an RUU whilst in the fastboot screen?

Run an official RUU install. Should be able to find one in the Dev forum. This should install a stock rom and bootloader. Just copy the RUU to your pc, run it, and connect your device. Follow the instructions.
Here's a link to official RUU Roms;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667
Can't verify the links, as anything that was uploaded to MultiUpload is no longer valid after the States shut them down a few months ago.
And sorry in advance, I don't know which one you should use Probably doesn't matter much anyhow, as a lot of them just contain radio updates and small bug fixes. Some of them are regional specific, so just choose one best suited for your region. If in doubt, WWE (world wide english)
You might need to flash Bravo Downgrader hboot from alpharev in the case that the RUU Roms cannot overwrite your existing HBoot.
i downgraded hboot using the attached file (put on root of sd card, rename to PB99IMG.zip, then reboot into bootloader and select yes when asked to apply update. then reboot phone) then run the official gingerbread update from the link:

[Q] [Question] Updating the radio image of WFS !

I was wondering that we all need S-Off to our phone to upgrade radio image manually else it gets updated only with either official update or with official ruu update file.....
We all know that we can easily find rom.zip file from the installation process of an official RUU.... I was wondering that if in between the process when the installer check information on our phone, if open the installer and get the rom.zip to change the radio.img from radio.img of europe or any other latest ruu, would it update the device with the latest radio ????
I m going deep into this process cos I couldn't get my phone S-Off due to certain reasons and want to get the latest radio update but I m bootloader unlocked which won't let me update the radio using fastboot commands cos it could only be done using official installation process....
If this helps then all of us would be able to b on the latest radio from htc which has an advantage of higher signal receiving capacity............

I *think* its possible to update the radio while s-on. But a downgrade would not be possible at all.

Well I m sure downgrading needs a way out but I have found a way to get radio and hboot updated while staying s-on and unlocked....
If we install an RUU directly on unlocked state it doesnt get installed and gives some error but if we manage to install correct region files from the RUU made for our own region and only, system.img, recovery.img and boot.img needs to be flashed through adb tools using fastboot commands and when its done, just be patient and let the installation complete and then when it starts, we get a fresh mobile with new NON-ROOTED phone.... Don't root it so far and check system for updates and let it update and voila ! It'd update radio and hboot....
I m not sure what my hboot version was before update but my radio version was 7.53 before update but after it turnt into 7.57............

Or you could take the radio from the ruu rename it to pg76img.nbh (I think) and boot to BootLoader
As long as it is an update it should work without an issue
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE using xda premium
What I did was:
1) Lock bootloader using 'fastboot OEM unlock'
2) Extract rom.zip from an ruu (NOT the latest!) and then separate it into system.img, boot.img, recovery.img, etc...
3) Using fastboot, flash system.img, boot.img and recovery.img.
4) Again, using fastboot, wipe the data and cache partitions.
5) Now boot into your stock android.
6) Download the latest ruu and run it, following the on screen instructions.
7) This ruu will update your entire phone (INCLUDING the radio) to the latest version.
8) Now, reunlock your hboot using htcdev.com.
9) Flash clockworkmod recovery using fastboot.
10) Install whatever custom rom you want, or keep the stock rom.
Simple!

This process won't work until the device is S-Off cos it doesn't get permission to write the radio until it is S-Off. Device unlocked won't help !

Does any one know How I can install JB? I have unlocked and installed custom room. I relocked the phone but can't return to stock as there is no ruu available for my software version. I have the ota update on my phone but when I try to install it doesn't work.
Ideas?

There is a thread in here (it's quite new) somewhere on backups for different versions, which you might be able to install.
There is another thread on using an older RUU, extracting the ROM and boot.img, and installing them (I think).
Ultimately you want to get to 2.17, 2.18 was unofficial, so I suspect the OTA will only apply to 2.17.
Edit: I might be making that up, maybe 2.18 was official.

I think The OTA is official, its from HTC and i downloaded to my phone ota. It was my phone that adviused me on the update The version is 3.18.751 on the update. Every time i try to load the update it goes to the fastboot screen and wont let me install the update.
2.18.751 is official, release not long after 2.17 OTA. It contained small fixes for taiwan chungwa's One X. If I am not wrong, it doesn't update hboot and recovery version, affecting ROM only.
For OP:-
Best options was using your nandroid backup.
OR
Grab the firmware.zip inside 3.14.751.20's OTA, then flash it like how they did to .401.
OR
There are a custom RUU that can help you convert your phone to taiwan unbranded CID (709) then receive 3.14.709.20 OTA. Your CID will change to HTC_621. You will need unlock bootloader for this method.

Ok i have successfully upgraded. Mudito i used the tool here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604439
I flashed the recovery image off the OTA update. Im now in 3.14.751.20
I will say i made an error and luckily i didn't brick my phone.
Bacislly i followed the steps from the link above on the video placeing the the official images in the relevant folders instead of custom ones.
I didn't place the correct files on my SD so after doing perm root the phone was locked on a screen(never seen it before so dont know what to call it). Then i realised i hadn't put the files on sd luckily when i reset the phone it turned on and then i downloaded the update and it installed perefctly.
but the used the official recovery/ boot images etc.

Hey, I got the EXACTLY same problem as you do - although I'm not using a custom rom, just messed abit with mine too much (CWM + root, something messed up so I can't update even going back to stock recovery), so can you please explain step by step what I should do to get the JB update?
Thanks alot!
(and will this make my phone able to get the next update if one will get out too? I mean - is it stock rom?)

Ok do you have 2.18.751? If you have this version I can give you the update as I have it on pc. Its 3.14.751.20. I just have to work out how to upoad it to xda site.
I woulnt follow my steps exactly as I'm lucky I didn't damage my phone.
The up date has firmware.zip that contains boot.img, recovery.img etc. Follow the instructions Hansen toolkit video on the link. I flashed the HTC recovery and boot image. Then went to perm root my phone. It was on a screen I don't know what to call and was stuck there as I didn't flash other recoveries like cwm etc.. I then rebooted by power&vol and downoaded update again and it instaled. Note my phone automatically advised of the OTA if yours hasn't then there is something different.
I would highly recommend NOT to following my steps. Follow tookit video. That should get you there.
It is the official update from HTC so it should allow future updates.

Thanks guys.
Finally I went the other way... I was trying so hard to do this that soon I realized that I will be getting a custom ROM in a matter of time. But I usually use Stocks Modded ROMs so I did this.
Relocked the boot loader.
Flashed Firmware.zip from the OTA 3.14.751 from OTA.ZIP file. My word here is USE THE FIRMWARE FOR YOUR CID!!! ONLY THAT ONE
Flashed CWM 5.8.4.0 Recovery (i had an old one).
Downloaded Custom ROM (tried 2 in two days so far. same procedure, ARHD and InserCoin)
Flashed Boot.img from that custom ROM.
Went to Recovery, install ZIP from SDcard. and Flashed the custom ROM.
Preety Neat I must say.
Enjoying performance from JB... Photo CAM is insanely FAST
Thanks to Everyone. XDA Is a great place to find info but it could be messy some times.

Shelby5, Can you please send me the link to the video? and yes, that IS my version, and I've been notified of the update - but because of my modded rom couldn't install it.
JB requires a newer hboot, no? mine currently has 1.12, and I've understood that it requires 1.33, so does it cover that too?
Thanks!
about the ZIP file - is it the one that your device downloaded OTA to install? cause if so - I got that one. and if not - I'd appreciate if you can upload it even to dropbox or something for the day and tomorrow so I can download it
Noodlez I can do it for you later Today. Ill msg you later with details.
