I recently purchased a Galaxy Nexus from Wind to use on their network.
The phone is running
- Android 4.0.2
- Baseband version I9250UGLA4
- Kernel Version 3.0.8-gaaa2611/[email protected] #1
- Build Number ICL53F.I9250UGLA4
- yakjuux ICL53F
The phone is great, but it currently suffers from one major problem.
The phone loses it connection with Wind Home from time to time even when the phone had full bars earlier. There are also times, when it loses its data connection. These two problems occur after waking up the phone from stand by (turning on screen). I've read of issues with Android 4.0.4 and this happening, but this is a major nuisance.
There are also times, when text messages don't go through, but I have two bars on 3G.
Any advice on how to cure this problem?
Thanks in advance.
Update to 4.0.4 and come back with results.

Updated to 4.0.4 and flashed my phone to a yakju using a guide found on here.
So far everything is fine, but its only been a couple of hours thus far. I'll report back later tonight.

GSM Nexus - I have been having major signal issues with my phone. The signal cuts out completely and it happens very frequently. I havent really noticed it happening on 4.0.2. I have been on 4.0.4 and I have been facing this issue ever since.
I have tried radios XXLA2 and UGLA4 and I have the same issue. I am not too sure if it is a hardware or a software issue.
I have been looking for the factory images of either 4.0.2 or 4.0.3, but it seems to be taken off from Google Dev site. Any idea if there are any other places I can get them from?
There is a link in the first post of the "update" thread link in my signature.

Thank you very much.
i am facing the same problem but only on AOKP Milestone 5. I didnt face any issues with signal drops when i was using paranoid android rom. Everytime the signal drops , i have to reboot the phone. it works fine for an hour or so and then boom 3G signal is off.
Hello recently unlocked and flashed my Galaxy Nexus (purchased from a Telstra Shop).
Android Version: 4.0.3
Baseband Version: I9250TDVKK6
Kernal Version: 3.0.8-franco.Kernal-Milestone3
[email protected] #150
Build Number: aokp_maguro-userdebug 4.0.3 IML74K eng.
roman.20120307.183117 test-keys
Mod Version: aokp_maguro_milestone-4
Basically what has been happening is when I leave the phone sit, it loses all reception and displays "Emergency calls only", unlock it picks up reception straight away. Thought the Radio might have been update with the Rom, however recently found out this isnt the case, radio appears to be stock. Have not tried another Rom as I'm pretty darn happy with my AOKP.
Have been into the test menu and altered the Radio band and preferred network to multiple combinations. Currently set to GSM/CDMA (auto) and Radio band to Automatic and in the past 15 or so minutes haven't encountered the issue.
Rather annoying issue as its the only thing that could possible sway me to going back to a Stock Rom as being able to receive calls and messages all the time is a requirement for me.
Anyone seen something like this happen before.
Thanks in advance.
I am also with telstra and have only seen this once.... I have checked a fair few times because I wanted to make sure I had a bug... Im using milestone 5 though.... Never had a problem with milestone 4...I also have run Franco kernel since purchase... Did u full wipe.. Format system and fix permissions.... Hmmmm

That sounds like the signal loss on sleep thing that was reported by many people on 4.0.4, which is really odd.
If it is due to the same thing (smart reflex power saver thingy stopping too much, which is the limit of my research) then installing Franco M5 kernel or pretty much any new release of one of the gun kernels might fix it as all they all contain the fix for the smart reflex problem.
Thanks for the rapid replies. Work long days so haven't had much of a chance to get it sorted out. Planning on wiping, fixing permissions as stated before then updating to a newer rom (assuming there is one) and a newer mod version.
Will post back with the results.
Cheers, Matt.
I live in Manhattan and ride the subway every day. Whenever I come out of the subway my phone does eventually regain service but it never gets the "H' symbol (or even E, G, etc.) for data. I'm not able to use data at all, and the only way to get it back is to toggle airplane mode.
I have a GSM Galaxy Nexus and I'm running the latest OTA update (4.0.4). Is it anybody else experiencing the same problem?
Yes, I've had that happen a couple of times with my phone, also GSM 4.0.4.
Same problem here. AOKP Build 37, UGLA 4 radio. Weird thing is I didn't have this problem on 4.02.
This is a bit of a known issue on 4.0.4, I saw it previously on AOKP. I'm currently running the UGLC1 radio (with the matching RIL, via the GetRIL app) and GLaDOS kernel 1.34 and haven't seen the issue at all since moving to this combo. You may be able to do it with just the radio and matching RIL... I just happened to make that change at the same time I moved kernels so I can't pinpoint which piece fixed it.
The recent 4.2.2 upgrade has ruined my wife's wifi. Grey wifi bars until you restart the wifi. Only last for a few minutes, then Grey again. Also 4G has become spotty as well. Anyone else experience this? My Nexus is rooted running JDQ39 Cyanogenmod and am just fine.

I take it your wife's phone got the OTA update? From what I've read, she needs to do a factory reset. I know it's a pain, but seems to be the only way to get the GN (especially the recent VZW OTA) to settle down. Like you, I'm running a custom ROM, but I did a full reset before installing it. No problems..
So i was wondering if anyone else is having this issue.
for reference, I am on VZW, with the 4.1.1 radios (as the updated 4.2 radios had me locked into 3G no matter what, at work)
and i ALWAYS do a complete wipe (data/cache/dalvik/system) between ROM flashes.
4.3 bootloader as well.
anyway, this has been an issue since 4.3 hit my device...anything from pure AOSP to CM builds.
when I am on 3G, the bars will go gray and i cannot pull down data at all. (and yes i know the difference between blue and gray bars, I'm saying ANYTHING will say "network not available" not just google apps)
toggling data on/off fixes the problem. I ususally run into this problem 2-3 times a day and it is ALWAYS on 3G.
its not a huge deal, just more annoying than anything else. just wondering if I am alone here. going to be giving the 4.2.2 radios another chance and see if that fixes things.
Having this exact issue...it's driving me nuts as well. At this point I believe I've tried every radio with no luck. Going to try jumping back to 4.2 soon to see if it solves the issue.
Me too
+1
I love how much fast my GNex is on 4.3, but I don't think I can deal with this data bull**** much longer. Frankly, I'm really getting tired of getting a new version of Android, being happy at first, then finding the HUGE bug that makes my phone a horror to use. WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN THINE VZW GNEX, GOOGLE!?!?
Just an update, as I updated my radios right around the time I updated to 4.3. I just switched back to CM 10.1 and all my data connection issues went away. That means it definitely has to do with 4.3 builds and not the radio firmware.

That's right, 4.3 sucks.

Data issues are being reported on nearly every rom for the gnex. My data reconnect /switch went from about 60 - 90 secs to a reasonable 5-10. (don't forget to reboot to apply changes)

So happy I found this thread!
I'm having the SAME issue: GSM i9250 on Straight talk ATT sim (apn setting are updated and correct). Stock not rooted; been happening since 4.3 Update. From what I've read even folks on the N4 are having similar issues.
I've factory reset 3-4 times for testing purposes (back to "normal" for about an hour then those pesky gray bars and NO data on 3G/4G).
I have to do the airplane mode toggle every 1/2 hour if I'm really using the internet. Big pain in the ass!
I always rooted my devices in the past and haven't done the GNEX because I always felt stock was smooth enough for my purposes (quasi-work-phone and I need stability). If I have to deal with this bull-sh&% I'm probably gonna have to root and install a 4.2 ROM.
Any-whoo...thanks for letting me rant :^)
Hopefully "kit-kat" will help?
same issue its very annoying... did anyone find the fix ??

Is this a fix?
My issue seems to be on 4g as well. If the phone switches from wifi to 4g or if it goes from 4g to 3g and back to 4g it shows a connection with bars but never connects to data again.
