I just received my seidio 3500 extended battery and extended rugged case. What's the best way to charge it using the stock phone charger? I've seen alot and most reviews and threads recommend external charger. I don't want to have to deal with that and shell out more money. I don't remember the link but I've also seen how your supposed to charge while on till full then unplug, turn off the phone then charge while off for an hour turn back on for 2 minutes while unplugged again then charge again for another hour while turned off again. I'm new to the evo and extended batteries so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I charged mine up til it was 100%, then monitored the battery widget. It kept going at waveform like this for another hour and a half - /\/\/\/\/\/\/\ - however as time went on, the peaks would be at lower and lower amplitudes. Eventually, the charging current decreased significantly, and there was an occasional spike every 5-10 min. At that point, I turned it off and let it charge for another hr or so. Rebooted (while still plugged in) into recovery, wiped battery stats, then rebooted to the desktop. Once the phone was fully booted, I unplugged.
I can get a good 2 days with light usage, or a solid 1 day with heavy. There after, I charge it til green, then give it another 1.5-2 hrs more - You can tell by the battery widget when it actually stops charging.
Note, i'm not using an SBC based kernel.
What battery widget are you using?

It's all bull man you dont really need an external charger. When I was in the process of getting my 3500 mah I was also preocuppied about the external charger, however I began to use and you really dont need it.
Just understand that when the 100% sign comes up and the green light turns on it's not really charged all the way, the phone can only recognize upto 1500 mah..if I remember correctly. You have to leave the phone plugged in for another hour or so for it to actually get it's full charge.
Even then, it will seem like it is not working because the battery will go from 100 to 90 in around 5 minutes ITS CRAZY!! But dont worry thats a fault on HTC's part. After that 90% mark the phone will have really good battery life. I usually get around 15 hours of heavy usage, extremely heavy trust me! If you just use it for phone calls and dont really use GPS and stuff you should get maybe a day and a half.
So dont worry about the external charger, it's not true. What I did when I first got the battery I charged it 100% let it drain all the way and then recharged it. This is just so the phone understand the capacity of the new battery. At first it may seem a bit "iffy" but dont worry it'll live upto it's potential.
Hope this helps. Later!
Thanks obloivior72,
I'm going to charge it up now and try it.

Just remember let it sit for another hour after it says it's full, Actually leave it for 2 just to be safe. I can't emphasize this enough! Glad I was able to be of some help! Enjoy your new battery.
Graph looks something like this.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Each tick mark on the X axis is 10 minutes. It took about 2 hrs to get the battery from 20% to 100%, then another good 90 minutes to really complete the charge (light green during this time).
Im using an SBC kernel. Its a little bit taboo on these forums right now but if you can get your hands one one it will def do the trick without jumping through hoops. Just read up on it first. Search the forums and do some reading about it before flashing. There's a lot of conflicting opinions on both sides about it so read about it then you decide.

I looked into the sbc kernels but with the bad info and everything I cant make the jump. I charged for 2 hours after full so I'm going to test it now till it dies while running calkulins 1.7.7. I'll let everyone know how it goes. I appreciate all the tips. Hopefully this makes my evo complete.

This is what Seido told me to do if it isn't charging adequately:
"Please try to fully drain the battery until the phone completely shuts off automatically and then charge with the OEM AC charger that came with your device. Repeat this process 3 consecutive times. This will recondition and also recycle battery usage for best performance.
Thank you,
Seidoonline Technical Support"
However, doing this when the battery is new really doesn't do any good. It would be useful after some time using it since these are "smart batteries".
Just charge it normally and should be good to go.

My battery life has always been pretty sh**ty even b4 all this phone hacking and crazy apps..
Currently it takes me aroune 10 to 15 mins to drop to 90%... but that maybe just a bad batt app reading..
nevertheless I cant go a whole day without charging once or twice...
I carry my charger with me everywhere.
How people get 3 days with this phone is beyond me... Maybe its bcuz I love to use my phone mostly as an ipod.
from 6 am to 2 pm still above 90. (in school, airplane) actually sitting at 67 right now and unplugged at 530 am.
OMG.... Teach me your ways... What are you running? Any Custom rom? Do you like not use many widgets? Or is it simply cuz you barely touched your phone all day?.... lol even i did that just idle sitting it would probably be 1/2 batt in like 4-5 hours

if u mean std widget u should know that it switches to 90 when actual procentage is 9x. So when @ ledefy && motocharge i have 99, there is 90 @ widget.

Honestly HOW! I cant even imagine that... You guys have some kind of special batteries right?
no special batteries or rom. everything stock. my clock speeds are stock i just undervolt. 300/17,600/31,800/42. might not work for everyone but im not a power user and dont play many games. thats what the game boy is for after all
Me too having the same problem and I am on stock rom and indian firmware and battery sucks and motoversion is 2.59.0 have lots and of games n apps but I have only rooted the phone with superoneclick hope you people can provide a solution for getting a better backup and yes I have even tried calibrating the batter but no use at all still I get the same problem battery draining and drains completely within 9 to 10 hrs even after minimal usage!!!!

Same for me. Since Moto only shows 10% changes you have to let it charge a good hour before unplugging when you see it's at 100%. It will show at 100% when the charge gets to 95%, so you could be losing 5% charge right there. I'm using the 1% display app from another thread around here, and I only unplug it when that app shows 101% charge. As soon as I unplug it, it drops to 99%, but lasts from 99% to 90% for about 7 or 8 hours if I don't really play with it. My usual discharge is 1% an hour. The phone/battery is programmed to not overcharge, so even if you leave it charging for 24 hours, as soon as you unplug it, it will drop to 99% instantly.
U mean motocharge app?
It always stops at 100% for me, never goes over
one thing noticed today... uptime was 2days 10hours and something ...and i had 1% battery left on motocharge ...and it took me forever to discharge that last percent
I did full brightness, full volume on music that was playing, turned on wifi and BT and played angry birds meanwhile ...and it took me like 30minutes to burn down that last percent of the battery, so Im guessing it isnt calibrated right

No. This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930457
Sorry wrong link corrected.
battery life drains out pretty quickly... i'd say it drops below 90% after an hour or so. one example would be 9am-2pm with texting, whatsapp-ing and the occassionally surfing, and i'm down to 30-40% batt life.
i think the major draining app would be those that run data in the background, coz i was in japan recently (data turned off while roaming) and a full day 9am-12am and i was hovering around 70-8x%.
hey guys i was looking around the forum and i didng see any threads comparing battery life.. so i was wondering how is everyones battery life? rooted and unrooted and any tips you may have?
i have a rooted play and im using set cpu but im only getting around 12 hours off battery life ..

thanks for the response !! these are the settings im currently using i got them from another post but i think i musttt be doing something wrong battery drops sometimes 5 percent while screen is off during an hour...

It sucked before rooting, in excess of 3 mins for boot, sluggish UI at times. After root and freezing a bunch of useless apps everything is much snappier and boot is exactly 1:06.
the battery life on the XP is awsome imo, on my desire HD the batt dies after about 6-10 hours, but my play lasts for 12-20 hours even with heavy useage
good to hear ! maybe there's hope for me yet =) Axi, I did notice after rooting everything is much snappier ! And boot is super quick compared to before..
Andro, do you have an tips on battery life? Any apps you're using or specific ones you froze? I froze a couple sync apps and such but I'm' still not noticing great battery life =( today for example, I unplugged at 9am with a full charge, played about an hour of gaming in total mixed with maybe 10 texts..and 10 mins of browsing and I was at 18% at 5:30 ive made sure everything is set to manual in terms of fetching new data.. not sure what i'm missing lol
Thanks for all your help guys!!
The best tip i can give is install juice defender.
I've tested this app on several phones, most succesful.
Used it on my HTC Desire, and went from 12 to 24 hours.
On my play i went from 8 to 24 unrooted - unmodded
(Looking forward to try now, after removing ALL bloatware and apps i won't use)
thanks biteme! I'll do that and see it if help i hope so! i left my phone off the charger the other night just to see how much the battery drained on it's own, untouched...after 3 hours I went from 49% to 19% =S and that was the phone just lying next to my bed while I slept lol
I'm going to try juice defender I hope it helps =D I've seen a slight bit improvement but that's when I turn off 3g..and I've read most people are getting good batt life WITH 3g on hmm..
biteme, if you wouldn't mind posting back when you've rooted with juice defender and let us know ? that'd be awesome! thanks a bunch!!
my x play
light usage 28-xxh
normal usage 8-28h
heavy usage 5-8h
I've never seemed to have any issues with the battery life.
Rooted, some bloat gone but not too aggressive.
Loads of widgets on stock UI, most set to auto update.
Went to sleep last night at 86%, woke up 8hrs later at 75%.
Ive used G1 > X10 >optimus one >Glaxsy S> Desire > Xperia play
Comparing all This is the best phone with android and super cool battery life lasts up-to 20 sometimes heavy usage with wifi all day I can manage from morn to evening
Sweet!! that's good to hear ! 20+ with heavy usage is amazing!! there's hope for me yet, LOL
just wondering what build number are you guys on? i wonder if that makes a diff?..I'm on version .181 and i heard there's been an update to .184 .. but perhaps it hasn't been released in canada yet, i'll be checking constantly to see when it's available hopefully that increases batt life too!
I removed everything from Explay (including unmounting the SD card),
lo and behold still 100% after more than seven hours. Also don't
forget the flight mode on. Perhaps it is a "personal lab condition".
15 months later...
Simply awesome.
Stock 2.3.4. Rooted and debloated.
My battery life is very bad ! I can only get 2 and a half hours on constant usage
I am on build number 4.0.2.A.0.42
Android 2.3.4
Is there a way I can fix/improve it ? Im using the stock battery btw.
Has it got anything to do with how much space I have on my phone or memory/ram usage ?

Fully charged my LTE Nexus while it was on and then fully charged while it was off. Restarted the phone, haven't done anything with it in 30 mins and it's already down 4% to 96%. What's the deal?!?!?
Someone said in another thread... if you look at your Android System usage in the battery meter, its way too high... sounds like a bug - apparently a custom kernel has fixed this, but I havent rooted yet to test it.

Although I prefer the GN, laptopmag.com found that the Rezound and RAZR have clear advantages when it comes to web surfing time on 4G. GSM GN wasn't too impressive either.
"On the LAPTOP Battery Test (web surfing over 4G on 40-percent brightness), the Galaxy Nexus lasted just 3 hours and 40 minutes. That's a full 3 hours less than the smartphone average (6:38), and about 1:20 less than the unlocked Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile's network. By comparison, the HTC Rezound lasted 5:03 and the Droid RAZR lasted 4:48. Verizon Nexus owners may want to turn off 4G when they don't really need it or find other ways to conserve juice."

After just a couple days mine is doing just fine. I'm at 18 hours right now with 23% left. You have to condition the battery always.
Mine did the same thing as they always do. I only got 4 hours first full charge. After 2 more full cycles it's great!

I forget this every time I get a new phone!! It's odd considering I load roms very, very frequently on whatever phone I have at the time and I know I have to wait a couple of battery cycles for battery life to get acceptable with any new rom, but I can't seem to remember it with a new phone!
I'm going to chill and wait and see.
Also, let it die completely and then charge it up 100000% (leave it charging overnight if you can). This is a good way to "train" the battery.

Do NOT do this whatever you do. You should never completely drain a Li-Ion battery except when calibrating it after flashing a rom. Draining li-ion batteries hurts its battery life.

Ok, so should he do it or not? You say not to unless you're calibrating.
Well, that's what the other poster is talking about. "training" = calibrating.
It doesn't harm a thing letting them drain all the way to the point of the phone shutting down. I've been doing this for all my phones, new roms, etc. I always end up with excellent battery life.

Sorry, but you are wrong.
Deep discharges do "harm" a LiIon battery physically (there is damage done to the membranes in the battery at a molecular level).
You will get about ~500 full (deep) discharges from your battery, but you will get more than double of that if you only discharge to 50% and more if you discharge even less. So the best thing is to charge your LiIon cell as often as possible, with the exception that it's also not healthy for the cell to be at full charge voltage (4.20 V) for a prolonged time either.
Yikes. You people with good battery life are lucky haha. I'm on my 6th charge and I still get around an hour and forty minutes of battery life. I'm at like 50% after an hour or so... and that's with LTE off too...

hi guys
i just got new Xperia Ion 3 days ago .... to be honest moving from Sony Erricsson C901 to Xperia Ion is amazing
the Mobile is VERY STOCK .... no additional programs or anything ... NIL
however ... it's Heating up
and the battery lasts 6-9 hours with mixed use (wifi 2-3 hours + 15 min voice call+ 30% screen brightness + screen on time = about 2-3 hours as well )
tried with Brevia Engine On and Off
and tried with Sleep timeout 15 sec and 30 sec
people told me Smart phones consume battery massively .... but charging phone 2-3 times a day ... makes it undependable and more or less like home land line ...specially when i'm used to charge my old mobile after using 3G , Music , bluetooth tethering and Camera massively every 2 days at least
so please guys help me ...
i tried to reset the phone and see if it fix the problem , however nothing yet
should i send it back to the dealer , or is this normal or xperia ion
here are some screenshots attached
thanks
Screen time 2-3 hours, then you are experiencing a normal battery life.
With heavy use [considering screen on time at least 2 hours +/-) no one here gets more than 8-10 hours I believe.
Bro. I also face this problem. Hardly I can use my ion for 2-3 hours maximum. So I tried many ways to fix it. The best way I found was flashing CM10 ROM. I can use 8-10 hours in CM10. I think you can solve it by flashing CM10. Just an idea. Many people wants to keep there warranty. If you are one of them I don't recommend it. Sorry for my bad English.
My Ion had terrible battery life when it was new. It gets much better after about 2 weeks. It takes a while for the phone to learn the battery's charge cycle.

the phone status deteriorated so fast that now i only have barely 2 hours screen time (20% brightness which is barely watchable) , and nothing is running in the back except avast anti virus , and battery manger
the phone gets SO HOT reaching sometime to 58 c and usually 45-48 c !!!
the normal slow charger (Laptop-USB / car-charger) is extremely slow to the level that after 7 hours of charging you get only around 60% charged , and if you are using the phone while charging the battery meter goes DOWN while charging and the phone gets very hot !!!
i'll return the phone after a month of use , but my only regret is that i listened to people here who don't even have the mobile or bother to read the details about the problem -_-
