[Q] I think I've bricked my new phone... HELP! - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey people
I recently got a HTC Desire from ebay, and there was no rom on it - it was just stuck at the splash screen. The bootloader was working, so I just thought a reflash would do the trick. I therefore downloaded a few RUU's and was trying them out only to find that none of them worked, not even the 2.3 update. After some frantic googling, I discovered that the phone was branded to vodafone, so I tried to RUU that one, and now my phone is stuck at the black HTC logo with the four exclamation marks at the edges. I can't S-OFF or even make a goldcard, since I don't actually have a ROM on the phone. What have I done? I might of corrupted the radio by the sounds of it, but I'm really hoping I haven't.My phone won't go into the bootloader anymore, and I don't know what to do. Could someone help me?

Go read bortaks guide, first post in Desire Q&A (stickies) and go down to number [4]

I have tried that. I have not been able to make a goldcard - none of the sdcards I have are working. I did try searching and reading around before I posted

Have u got another phone, r can u borrow 1? u can put ur sdcard in that to make a gold card

I have tried to make a goldcard using my xperia x8, but the two cards I have aren't being recognised after using the hex editor. It keeps saying they are not formatted.

Then first look for an usb unbrick guide, it should be easy.

Or -
send the phone back. You are supposed to get a phone in working condition, not some overpriced paperweight. Unless you deliberately bought the phone in such condition which is imho extremely foolish. To sell a phone in non working condition is outrageous! I hope you haven't left positive feedback.

The thing is, I think it's my own fault. When I got the phone, at least it went into the bootloader when you held the down volume button and pressed power on, but now it won't even do that. It's stuck at the black screen with the four exclamation marks at the corners. Is there anything I can do in fastboot, since that is what it's stuck it? The USB unbrick guide doesn't help because I can't get past fastboot mode...
Can anyone help?

[Q] Desire Blackscreen

Hello,
i flashed my hboot back from ogxygen to default hboot, after
reboot i just saw a black screen. The leds are blinking green and orange if i put out the battery and if i insert it, the leds are orange.
If i start the desire the leds are not showing something and its still blackscreen. How i can repair it? =(
sry for bad english
i'm no expert but have you tried going in to the Bootload menu (power off phone, hold down the back button and power on holding both button down unlit phone starts up)?
Then if you can get in to the Bootloader screen you can then try to go to Recovery option or flash from your PC using ADB.
Have you made a NAND back up before you flashed your Hboot?
Yes i already did, but always blackscreen not vibrating or something like that
no i dont have a nand backup, why i need 1? someone could give me a link?
or make a backup and upload it?
if you connect phone to pc , is it recognized by PC?
if yes try to run an official RUU from shipped roms.

no my pc isnt showing something up
It is a bit late but check the md5 of the hboot you flashed, if it does not match I think you are pretty screwed otherwise it probably is still fixable.
how i can fix? damned thats my dads desire he will kill me :/
i don't think you can, you have to take it back for repair.
or you can find someone with jtagbox.http://www.jtagbox.com/jtag-news/riff-jtag-htc-desire-unlock-unbrick-imei-repair-supported/
will they repair my desire if i send it back? cause its flashed
It depends on how much they can see from it.

ähm... what they will do after repair when they see thats my desire is flashed?
If they find out that it was a rooted desire or that you caused the fault, they are happy to repair it but they will charge you big time. Somewhere around here someone named 200 euro i think. But you might get lucky and they repair it cost free, has also happened before.
What you have is the slcd desire brick. Follow the thread in my signature with the ruu for your region- how to unroot the desire.

Totally Stuck on HTC screen

OK, had my desire for 3 weeks on o2, did an over the air update and phone stuck on o2 splash screen, o2 no help at all so i downloaded a couple of roms:
RUU_Bravo_Froy2_UK_2.14.207.1_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_144166_signed.
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed
First one did not work as gets to about 90% and gives a 110 error so tried the second one and another error in the rom update utility, phone now boots to an htc screen with 4 little white triangles in the corner. I cannot get to boot loader, what do i do? This phone has never been rooted

Can anyone help me at all. I have read for hours and nobody seems to have the problem I have. If I hold vol down and power on it just goes straight to htc logo screen. Same if I hold back and power on. I have read about gold cards but you need to access phone to make them. Just to reiterate this was a branded non rooted phone.
Any help would be appreciated
Do you know anyone else with a Desire?
You could use that to make a goldcard.

You have to make a goldcard.
Got the same problem here in germany, 4 weeks old desire by o2, small ota update of market app at 1 am, update installs, white htc bootscreen for 30 min till I removed batterie.
And it didn't went further anymore. Went into boot menu and tried everything there - nothing.
I'm an experienced windows mobile user but on android the first time so I don't look out for another rom or anything else now, so I phoned o2 the next day, they told me to flash the stock rom from their website.
I tried that, flashing routine stopped after 70 or so %, saying the ruu is damaged. Downloaded it again on another machine, tried win7 64bit, 32bit, xp in a virtual box on linux, nothing.
Phoned o2 again and within 24h my phone was changed.

I appreciate the link but it does not seem to relate to my problem, i can still see the screen but all the solutions seem to assume that you can access your phone or get into hboot/recovery.
I cannot do either, i cannot get into hboot, cannot get into recovery so impossible for me to make a gold card as i dont know anyone with a desire, cant use anything like unrevoked as you need to access the phone to go into debugging mode.
When i run the ruu it shows i currently have 2.14.207.3 and the 02 ruu that i downloaded is 2.14.207.1 but just get a 110 file error at the end and it does not complete
Any other ideas?

This has happened to me. What I did is get the proper RUU.
If phone is branded, unfortunately you have to make a goldcard.
so are you saying that i have to wait for the 2.14.207.3 ruu to be released (as i dont know anyone to make gold card) and that 2.14.207.1 ruu is not going to help me because its an earlier version?

[Q] HTC WildFire A3335 Question...

hi is looking for help please i have a a thread on here already yes im from Australia have been reading lots and lots of info did this that and the other so here is a little something
ok let me try to explain this ok i rooted my phone before so its now s-off. what im trying to do is to get back to how it was yes im still stuck. so i put it in to HBoot and did a recovery it stop boot lopping then i did a search to how to fix this and come across this site read and read countless info. trying a number of things first so then i did the clear storage then rebooted phone then i got the home screen with yes the Telstra NextG network. then i took out the battery then put it back in did the same thing as before got in to HBoot then i read on here to turn the sd card to a fat32 which i did so. i read more and more did that and what they said to do and so on. now when i did that i got the home screen with Telstra NextG network then it changed to a black screen with a triangle shape with one of these things ! in the middle of it, so then i come here post this on here looking for help then i did what they said in reply's to do it,and it work for 2 days then went straight back to how it was, then i read the reply's to this done the same thing'y over and over still im with out my damn HTC WILDFIRE A3335 to be honest this phone has become a big pain in the rear end and has done my head in for over a week i have never in my life had so much drama with a HTC WILDFIRE A3335 until now i did all my mates smart-phones with no hic up's now trying to do my own its like im at the end of my wits i have photos with this so you can see what i get when doing what they said ok the gold card thing'y already did it still phone will not read it as you will see first hand on here in my Thread
if any one could help me with this.
And would be a great help thanks...
Erm, can you re-explain what you're trying to do?
Are you trying to unlock your Wildfire or are you trying to revert back to stock?
Your explanation seems a bit messy to me..
sorry here is what happen to my phone ok
I have a basic question,
I'm only asking because there's far too much
information available,
on here
and its not easy to find what best fits my
needs.
I have an unlocked A3335 wildfire ( Telstra NextG network 3g version), I'm using it on optus,
my boyfriend was useing it he dowloaded a
font change app for the phone,
but when he did it my phone went in to
bootloop mode.and keep't bootlooping again
and again
all i get is the start up screen,
with yes you guessed it
(Telstra NextG network 3g crap)
All I want to do is try and get my phone from
this bootloop mode and try and recover...
my phone back to how it was.
Its hard to explain,
ok when i go in to the boot screen
i have this on my phone
BUZZ PVT SHIP S- Off
HBOOT-1.01.0002
MICROP-0622
TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab
RADIO-3.35.20.10
DEC 27 2010,
17:49:10
and it reads the sd card,
it said the Boot Image. is missing
dont know why a app would take this out
but this is what happen
So Now when i did the fastboot on my phone
it done nothing,
then did the clear storge.
then i did the recovery
it rebooted to a black screen with A
triangle shape with one of these things
! in the middle of it,
but still stuck
I can follow the regular guides for rooting,
now i have done every thing that has been told to me from my other thread i keep getting this Failed no such file found when my phone reads sd card or GOLD CARD
the thread for this is posted in this one HTC Buzz: Wildfire/Wildfire General
this is a update this it is now fix't thanks to arco68 and Scratch0805, slymobi, thanks guys you rock

error 131 using RUU

Hi, i am aware of fact that this propably happened to someone else before, but search wasnt much of use (i tried it for almost hour)
Got slighter problem, i need to unroot desire for warranty purposes, so I used RUU (download RUU, connect phone and run ruu.exe)
i got error 131 in procces (while using several roms from shippedroms, first branded TMO RUUs since phone was originaly branded by tmo, then ww ruu) and now i cant load bootloader, phone only vibrates when i try to turn it on, dont you have any help/links for guides to solve my problem? any help would be really appreciated.
Id try goldcard method with PB99IMG.zip, but i cant load bootloader :/
P.S. I can see phone in windows device manager

I'm preety sure that you installed amoled RUU and you have slcd device so the screen doesn't turn on.
Try Bortak's guide.

But it is. If you install amoled related RUU and you have slcd device you will end up with screen not working. In my opinion the best choice ti install is 2.3 RUU because it is made for all screen versions plus you won't get 131 error which is CID incopatibility cause it's the same for all regions. And you won't destroy the warranty.

I've just opened a thread about it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772499
EDIT: Just give me a word if it worked.
there was some progress, but not as much as I think it would be... phone restarted itself in middle of update several times in row (or i think, it vibrated several times in few seconds, it has happened before, its one of reasons it goes to warranty service) and RUU gave me unknown error (forgot number, but it was labeled as unknow error).
screen is working now, after turning on, if USB is plugged, i see htc logo with exlamation marks in corners, if I unplug usb, i can see bootloader with only option, RUU (instead of usual 4 ones when phone is ok). tried to run HTC RUU again, but it fails after system update part, giving me error 152: image update error
after disconnection of usb, phone gives me table where everything is ok, except radio_v2, where is instead of OK some "fail-PU", after phone restart, i am stuck at htc logo with 4 trinagles in corner, pluging/unpluging usb gives me white screen with that RUU option only
Something went wrong try to remove battery and try once more with RUU. If no luck try goldcard method with WWE .zip.
Also try to extract rom.img from RUU and try to run it from goldcard.
some guys on xda says you should try RUU over and over and over... and most of them says this is baaad situation, will GC work?
You can try with GC and WWE RUU you may be lucky. Everything sounds lie you have some issue with flash memory of you phone.
And of course, try as many time as you want you may have success.
I put phone into Freezer, then performed RUU and it works now gotta love that piece of mashinery btw any idea about TMO branded ROM for slcd desires, so i dont do any funny shiet again?
btw i really apreciate your will to help, these kind of ppl are rare these days, thank you man
You're welcome, I totally forgot about that s**t with freezer, sometimes it gets overheated so nothing works.
Forget about branded RUUs, you never know what will you get at the end. Now try revolutionary, get s-off and root, and there's a plenty of roms you can try. Go here and you have it all:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328
Plus hboot change is recommended (why don't you get more space when you can).
alpharev.nl
I had s-off and root and I will have it again, but still, need to put phone in service for warranty purpose and in our country, it isnt any simple, thats why branded rom :/
btw that **** with freezer doesnt surpise me, i am giving it to service partly for overheating problems... and leaving phone without battery for a while to cool down was my standart phone starting procedure, but I had no idea that even harder temperature decrease has such influence on performance (while using RUU, phone was at standard room temp.).
Anyway, thank you again, you helped really lot

OK let's figure this out. Gonna need specific information from you.
Is the phone s-on or s-off? If s-off how was this done?
What procedure was used to flash the ROM?
What state is the phone in now? Won't turn on at all, or sits on the HTC screen, or only vibrates?
And has your friend done this before?

My advice is to flash an RUU and revert back to stock.
This is only because it's hard bricked, plus it happened to me before. I thought to give it a go, and it worked.
After that I just re root my phone, and install CWM recovery, and then flash a new ROM. It's simple
Just follow my leads and it'll work.
P.S Your hardware hasn't damaged at all. Why do users say these things?
1. Download an RUU from the buzz forums
2. Install and revert back to stock with RUU
3. After the process is done, enable adb in settings [Applications]
4. re root your device, and install CWM
5. Flash any custom ROM and follow the instructions 'fully'.
I had to rush this, I hope you understand what i'm saying.
Users if you think i'm wrong then correct me as you wish.
But this all managed to work for me, when my device was hard bricked xD

Hey @Stone Cold, the confusion people are having here is between hard bricked and soft bricked. A "hard brick" can only occur in 2 situations which are
1: the bootloader is corrupted/damaged/deleted and the device cannot boot. This can Only be fixed by using a JTAG. A ruu will not work as the ruu is flashed by the hboot(bootloader) and if it won't function then its dead.
2: that hardware has been damaged so much that the device cannot physically boot.
Depending on the damage this can sometimes be fixed.
All other forms of "bricking" are "soft bricks" or software bricks. These include bootlooping, trapped at the splash screen etc. These can be fixed as the bootloader and or custom recovery still function. If either of these still function you are not hard bricked. If a ruu worked then you were soft bricked.
Now this user states that his device was s-on so bootloader corruption is massively unlikely as nand protection is still active. This coupled with the owner stating that the device will not boot and shows no signs of life a hardware failure is the most likely option.

That's no problem pal it's good to keep these terms clear, so many people have misinterpreted them in the past. That being said thank you for reminding me of the black screen hboot issue. It's been ages since I've heard of that happening. Its good to keep notes
But back on topic, OP do you or your friend have a working fastboot path? If so try to boot into hboot with volume down and power, wait 30 seconds then push power. Then on the PC issue the command
Fastboot devices
If nothing happens its toast :/
