Screen protector? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hi
i just bought a Gnex
and i was wondering do i really need a screen protector?
is it recommended??
im asking cause i had a vibrant and a GS2 before. and i did not need it cause of the gorilla display. but my friend keeps telling me the gnex does not have one, and the screen will shatter with the most minimal drop. so since i never had one, do i need like an otterbox or something?
I really dont like covers or cases on my phones. so im asking cause if its so fragile as everyone says i really need to get one

You will probably scratch your screen if you don't use one. Screen protector will not keep it from breaking if you drop it.

Yeah it does not have gorilla glass and it seems to want to scratch easier so I went and got one too. I didn't use them but I want the screen in good shape

I use the XO Screen Protector. It is a wet application, where it has to dry. It covers it edge to edge and it isn't even noticeable. There is a slight difference in feel compared to the naked screen... so if you were smart, you'd apply it before you got used to the screen so you couldn't tell a difference.
I also use the Rinkge Slim Metallic case, which is a super slim profile case that is the exact same color as the phone itself. It doesn't feel like it has a case on.
Both of these products really help protect the phone while making it hardly noticeable.

I second the above, case and protector. Use both and enjoy both. Both have excellent customer service also.

I have to also agree with both post above.

Looking for a clear screen protector

Im looking for a clear screen protector that is high quality and NOT like an invisible shield (I hate that tacky feeling).
If anyone has ever used a Power Support screen protector for their iPhone or iPad, im looking for something exactly like that, only for the galaxy nexus. That is, one that is applied using static (not wet application or any adhesive), and has no tacky feeling to it.
Does anyone know of such a screen protector?

at this point, there isn't anything like powersupport. i wish there was something. many companies are stating that they have to cut short around the edges for static cling types of SPs because of edge "lifting" due to the curved screen.
i'm working with realook right now to see if they can get a SP for the GNEX.
the SPs that are cut short around the edges will stick down.
I always get sgp ultra crystal screen protectors for all of my phones. I have one on my sgs2 and I couldn't be any happier with it. It doesn't take away thebscreens natural look. It is just as glossy if not glossier than the screen itself. I am not sure if sgp has made one yet but I am sure they will soon. Once they do I will be buying it. They also are pretty good about no scratching as easy as most screen protectors

[Q] Use Screen Protecter? Just got my otterbox.

Hi all,
JUst got my otterbox commuter and it came with a screen protector. Is there any point to using it? If the screen of the nexus is impacted, its probably going to break even if the SP is installed... Any opinions?
Case seems to fit very well btw. def recommend it.
It's up to you, but I wouldn't assume that the screen protector that is included is of great quality.
Screen protectors are used to protect from scratches more than anything, not impacts. Whether or not you want to risk that is up to you. I have been running my Nexus without a screen protector for 3 months and do have a slight scratch on the viewable area of the screen, and another one in a non-viewable area.

Is it nessessory to get a screen protector for SGS3

Is it nessessory for me to get a screen protector for my new SGS3?
I heavily rely on the sensitive feel on the screen, and i just don't want to sacrifice its original beauty. i heard the screen on galaxy s3 use gorilla glass, need no protector any more, but i still worry to see scratches.
How about u guys? will u buy a screen protector?
I have a zagg screen cover (regular, not full body) but didn't care for it too much. It was put on perfectly (or as perfect as it could get) and I felt like it did dull the screen colors down a bit
I recently took it off when my Diztronic case came in and now just carry a micro fiber cloth with me. If the phone goes in my pocket I can slid that right over the screen
So I'd say no screen protector. If you have an extra micro fiber cloth around I would just use that

If you don't get one, you will be Nesses-Sorry (Title spelling joke. Oh, I am so original)
In all seriousness, no, it's not. The glass is pretty tough, it may get a few little scratches, maybe one or 2 big ones over the life of the phone. BUT if you're OCD about keeping the glass pristine, you want one, because gorilla glass is not invincible.
I got one for the future resale value bonus of "No Scratches", and as long as you get a smooth dry application screen protector, you won't notice a degradation of the feel of the surface of the phone.

which kind of screen protector did u get? cuz i think smooth ones will definitly influence the touch feeling and sensitivity. i play games a lot, so i hope to maintian its sensitivity with no scraches.
Iv never used a screen protector on any of my glass screen phones starting with 3gs on launch day. Iv never had any scratches at all. My right pocket is for my phone never anything else and I never set it down. Its in my hand or pocket

agreed! I accidentally used a Starbucks napkin to clean the screen from my greasy hands and fukin regret it dearly. My screen got three pretty long noticeable scratches (visible only when the screen is off and in the light) bothers me knowing that it's there and how stupid of me to have used a recycle napkin made with "at least 40% post-consumer fiber".

Though everyone has an opinion I think that its a must. Don't be fooled by Gorilla Glass it is not scratch proof. I baby my electronics and had never scratched a screen on any device I had owned. Then I look at my Galaxy Note and there are 2 scratches from NO-WHERE. Just poof no drop no bump...
So to be cautious I will always have one now.
I had a package of cheap screen protectors from 2007.. probably not even made for touch phones! But they fit so we installed them. The touchscreen works great and the screen looks fine. I can hardly tell it's there.
I know it'd drive me crazy if I got a scratch on my phone and had to look at for the next 2 years I'd definitely recommend buying a screen protector! I'm sure anything being sold today is better than what we've got installed So hopefully you won't even notice it and can protect your screen
I ALWAYS get one. If it makes it feel cheap, you probably got a cheap and/or crappy screen protector.
I like Martin Fields and have used Seidio ones as well. ZAGG (I think it is) you can get a Best Buy and other places SUCK. They have a sticky or rather rubber feel to them so your fingers don't glide smoothly and probably are what give people the "cheap" feel. The first two I mentioned feel identical to the glass. You won't even know they're there. I get a new phone once a year and never had more than a scratch or two on the protector only. Peel it off ... brand new phone still.
I figure it also helps against breakage since there is an extra layer of protection reinforcing the structure. Kind of like laminated glass. A friend got a giant gouge in his RAZR. GIANT wound to the screen protector, but it didn't make it through to the glass surface. No cracks or even scratches ... to the glass.
I stopped investing in them. My iPhone 4 was without for a year and no scratches. The protectors had scratches but they aren't as durable as the screen

What the hell are those napkins made of? Dear lord.
Definitely get a screen protector. Get a dry install screen protector that is clear and I guarantee that you won't notice it. I recommend SGP Nano Clear for this phone. It is very easy to install and works very well with cases. The only drawback is that it leaves about 1 mm or so uncovered around the edges, but fortunately this will be covered by most cases.
If you are wondering about getting a screen protector, then get one. You may regret it otherwise.

I got the Steinhill Ultra Crystal. It's a fingerprint magnet, but so it the rest of the phone, feels just like the glass though.
Yes get a screen protector. I highly recommend that you get one. Gorilla glass 2 is not scratch proof. I already scratched my screen and my HTC evo 4g lte screen. :-(
Why would you not get a screen protector for this phone? This is not a cheap phone so do yourself a favor and get you a good screen protector. You touch the screen whenever you use the phone and everytime you touch it, you risk scratching it due to dirt being on your hands. Protect your investment!
Normally I purchase wet application protectors from bestskinsever.com but wet application protectors do not play well with tpu cases for this phone.
I recommend the Reearth dry screen protector. You can find it on Amazon for 11.99 and it includes 2 protectors. It's an awesome protector and you won't even know it's on your phone.

best non-glass screen protector?

hey guys. so I had a problem with the Zagg Shield HD...once I got the extended battery and the case for it..it kept lifting up. My wife has her on her phone and it's now got a bunch of marks on it.
So I tried the Spigen glas. protector. looks beautiful but always had sensitivity issues. They sent me a free replacement. still, i'm not enjoying the phone as much and I feel it's down to how I have to press extra hard on the back button and type extra slow...
so, what is the best "old-school" screen protector i can get that won't affect sensitivity but still protects the screen from scratches? I need one that won't go to the edges but also won't just be the screen part...if that makes sense. something like the coverage of the Spigen glas without the sensitivity issues i'm having with the glas.
thanks!
Try the Anzer/Amzer. What ever it is called. I plan on replacing my Spigen Glass screen protector with one of those. I hated my zagg invisible shield HD.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
searched Amazon and three versions came up. they all look like they go to the edge of the screen, which is not good with cases on the extended battery. that's why I had to get rid of the Zagg...
any others?
I am just using the one that came with my Diztronic case and I ordered a pack of 3 screen protectors from Amazon for $3.85 (for my wife's GS3). They are all clear, don't mess with the sensitivity, and look great. If I hand my phone to 10 people, 9 of them wouldn't even know that have I have a screen protector on there and the 1 that does know would know because they are looking for it.
I don't know why everyone insists on getting these tempered glass screen protectors or the Zagg-like (rubber feeling) screen protectors that you can't poke a pen or a drill bit through in a YouTube video. All I need is something that will keep my keys from scratching up the screen in my pocket and if it does scratch the screen protector I want to be able to replace it quickly and cheaply. For basically a buck each... You can't go wrong.
I still have the original 'cheap' screen protector on my old Vibrant that my kid is using and it still looks great so I have never needed to change them out. I still have 2 out of the 3 that I bought back when I got that phone so I am ready to go if/when it needs replacing.
Spigen nano clear is good. It came with my case. The edges only go to the edge of the screen so it's good if u have a bulky case. It's also really easy to clean and feels smooth like glass
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
anyone try the Spigen 4H protector?
the nano and clear are 2H, the glas is 8H, this one is 4H and seems to be more like a film but stronger than the other models.
http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/sa...axy-s3-screen-protector-steinheil-series.html
I'm looking for a good and cheap screen protector too. I prefer the dry application hard plastic ones (4H), I don't like the tempered glass neither the wet application skins.
I have the SGP Ultra Nano Clear and it's good sp but scratched easily. I had the Ultra Crystal, it was better but the fit wasn't right (too big, caused the edges to peel). I think they fixed its size already, not sure.
My ideal sp would be the curved and clear with 4H hardness and fingers print resist at a price of less than $15 (for 2 ps). I found one from korea - SkinPlayer 3D, but it's more expensive than $15 and can't be found outside korea. there's a topic about it -
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856079
I think i'll go with the Ultra Crystal again. unless somebody will recommend a cheaper sp with the same or better quality.
sounds like you're describing the one I posted above in terms of look, hardness, price, etc. but now it's just a question of whether it'll peel on the sides or not...
any other suggestions?
I'm really ITCHING to get rid of this Spigen glas thing...I was ready to order the Nano Optics but the reviews are so mixed for those online I don't want to waste my time and money anymore.
why do local stores only carry Zagg?! ahhhh
Go with the just like glass protector by dba. I just put it on and it feels exactly like the glass.

i appreciate your enthusiasm, but there's a few things that concern me. Spigen makes the glas, and both of them have had horrible sensitivity. second, the curvel crystal makes it sound like it goes to the edges of the phone...and that was my problem with the Zagg Shield HD...the cases were lifting the edges badly.
is either of these things happening to you? do you have a picture of how it looks on the phone?

I have the spigen curved one also, no issues at all with sensitivity, not sure where you heard that? It feels really good, like no layer at all. I can't tell you whether it will lift up or not with a case, my case is 2 pieces so it never pushes against the edges..

Ballistic SG Maxx?

Anyone have any experience using this case?

The real concern I have is the screen protector, which is the main reason I want it, I want a phone case with a built in screen protector. However I keep reading it doesn't do well with glare, or its difficult because you have to press so hard. I want to hear from someone that has experience though. If anyone could share, would be much appreciated.

Built in screen protectors suck. Aside from the problems you mentioned above, screen protectors are meant to get messed up (scratches and marks and stuff) and be replaced, with built-ins you're stuck with them. It's just a marketing gimmick. I have had experience with Ballistic's SG cover on my old phone (HTC One S) and it was brilliant, good material and it really works at the price of adding a little more bulk to the phone. I've just ordered one for my nexus a few days ago.
I'd say get the regular SG and get a pack of good screen protectors for the $15 you'll save.

Ah ok, I'm using i-blason's Armorbox and the built in screen protector is very good IMO, I was just looking for an upgrade, because the rest of the case sucks lol.

Yes, I own this case! It's a great case (if you're looking for protection), but out of honesty, the built in screen protector is rather disappointing. The plastic feels cheap and emits a rainbowing effect when placed in light. The protector is very thick, which lowers the sensitivity of the screen.
I attached two images. One showing you a front shot of the protector and the other showing a side shot to give you the gist of how thick the protector is.
Overall, the case is fantastic, but you'll be better off using a screen protector from a different company. Also, you might have a little trouble sliding this case into jeans. The rubber sticks to the cloth of the jeans and it's not easy to slide the phone in and out with the case on.
Hope I helped.
