What you need to do is to:
1) turn off your phone and remove the micro-sd
2) plug the micro-sd to an SD adapter of some sort, and attach it to your computer directly
3) use some tool other than CWM recovery to create the needed partitions.
At least, that's how I've done it...

I've always created EXT4 partitions in CWM 5.0.2.8. However, my partition is always 4GB, too.

[Q] Fat Align

Can anyone confirm that partitioning the SD card with GParted will align the partitions automatically?
I was following the FAT32 alignment guide linked to in the second post of the Insertcoin thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016940
But was running into problems. If GParted does the same thing it would make life a heck of a lot easier...
4ext recovery does that automatically, also you can check within recovery if it's aligned or not.
No idea about gparted though.

You can use GParted to make a ext4 partition (no problem).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016084 - step five
You just have to choose ext4
The size of the partitions is displayed in GiB. You can use this to convert the size in GB:
http://www.unitjuggler.com/convert-memory-from-GB-to-GiB.html
So everything should work.

Thanks, how would you check in recovery if its aligned?
Figured it out - flashed 4ext recovery and like you said there is an option to check alignment - both my partitions are aligned!
Thanks.

[Q] Two ext4 partitions ?

Hi. I'm about to install a new rom on my HTC Desire, and the developer says i need to partition my SD card like this :
*******************
But the first thing you'll have to do is repartitioning your sd card (I suggest 4ext or you can use clockworkmod recovery) like this:
1st partition fat32 xyMB
2nd partition - sd-ext - ext4 - 768MB (the 1st ext that recovery will ask you)
3rd partition - sd-ext2 - ext4 - 256MB (the 2nd ext that recovery will ask you)
NO SWAP!!!
You can use different values for sd-ext partitions, but ext proportion HAS TO BE 3:1 (like my suggestion 768:256)!!!
*******************
I flashed Clockworkmod recovery and i dont have an option in there to create 768 size partition and i really dont know how to create 2 ext4 partitions. So how do i do it ? I would really be greatful for any help here. Thank you.
4EXT Recovery Touch should be your recovery (check my sig).

All you need to do is to
1. Download and install 4EXT Recovery Updater, and launch it.
2. It will ask for root access, which you must grant.
3. After granting it root access you can use it to download and flash 4EXT Recovery. You must have an internet connection for this.
4. The recovery updater app will now download 4EXT Recovery and flash it on your device, replacing the older CWM Recovery you have currently, it's that simple.
there you will find the option to create 2 ext partitions.
guess i have to install some rom first so i can get 4ext, i couldn't find an image file to flash it otherwise. On it now. Thanks.

Thank you all, you've been very helpful. I've flashed 4ext and pratitioned the SD card, my phone took ages to start, so finally i've installed the rom, gonna try it out now. Thank you all again ! Cheers.
Glad to know that your problem is solved. enjoy your new rom.

sdcard damaged after partition with Gparted or Partition Wizard

Hello everyone. I have searched several threads before I am doing this thread but since I am newbie to all rooting and partitioning it might I am not understanding the different methods. I have this HTC Desire rooted with Unrevoked 3.32. I have installed Cyanogenmod 7.2 and have a 16Gb Sdcard Sandisk Class 2. I have read that to partition with ROM Manager and Clockworkmod is risky, so I didnt went for it (maybe I misunderstood). So I went to use Gparted and also Partition Wizard but with same outcome. I partitioned it with FAT32 and EXT2 and even EXT3 but when I mount it on phone it says SDcard damaged and needs to format it. I know that there are several threads with this problem and I am sorry if I created another but maybe I am missing something. Any help please is appreciated.

Download recovery updater and use it to flash 4ext recovery. Use it to repartition your sd card.

Did you just added the ext4 partition or reformated the card completely?
I think, that gparted you be sufficient....I did it with gparted too and witout problems...
if 4ext doesn't help, try to completery reformat your card, ie delete all partitions and create new table and recreate partitions. Remeber to make the first partition FAT32 and the second partition ext4 (in this order).
Don't make to ext4 partition bigger that 1.5GB
I used both Gparted and Partition Wizard. created fat32 and tried both ext2 and 3 but not 4 but same problem, partitions created but phone says that sdcard damaged and needs to format. 4ext is user friendly or is there any tutorials for it?

[Q] Recovery with ext4 support

Hello guys,
Currently there is any recovery that can create an ext4 partition on sd card?
Basically I don't want to use my computer to create a partition.

But as mentioned in the threads for INT2EXT scripts : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1716124 , there is no provision to Partition my SD card. Please help me with any other workaround to increase the internal memory.

There is a provision to partition the SD card in CWM, I think it is under "Advanced"........ Be sure to backup the contents of the SDcard since partitioning will completely wipe it

Hey in CWM recovery normally it is present in advanced >> Partition SD card but for CWM version 6.0.4.8 there is no "Partition SD card" option thats the problem. May be @oliver didnot include this feature in this recovery software:crying:

Ummm.......why not try using minitool for pc
I partitioned mine before changing recovery.
If all else fails you can always reflash cwm 5!!!! It takes a few second!
