[Fixed]Yet another Desire HD issue - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok,
So i started with a stock HD on 2.3.5 and unlocked the bootloader through HTCDEV.
And continued to flash CWM on there as per this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528925
With CWM i did a backup, wiped and formatted everything possible except for sdcard.
Then i went to install this rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364835
but when i got to reboot, all i get is the HTC logo on screen and nothing else (left it for over 1 hour)
i have restored the backup, so that's fine, but how do i get a custom rom on there?

Maybe a bad download?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium

How do i check?
The rom installer says it has installed fine...

Download the file again. Check the MD5sum, make sure it matches the one from wherever you download. And make sure you wipe data, cache, and dalvik before flashing.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium

Yep done all that.
I've locked the bootloader again, and i'm going to root it etc using the Advanced Ace Hack Kit and see if it works then..

Good idea. That's what I used when I got my ace. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
By the way, what rom installer are you using?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium

Ended up having to lock it again, then unlock it to re flash a stock recovery, then lock it again, then use AAHK to downgrade/root etc, then flash new rom with CWM
I was using CWM to do the flashing before, but that wasn't the problem.
The problem was that the HTCDEV method doesn't work as well as 'proper' rooting methods etc.

The issue is that the guide you followed had one key step missing. And that was flashing the boot image via fast boot.
Either way the aahk is the way to go

Rule 1 of HTC phones: If it is doable, never use HTCDev unlock for root.

Nand Back up help needed

I rooted my Evo with UnrEVOked 3
S-OFF using stock Froyo 2.2 Rom
How do I do a Nand backup ?
What does it mean ?
Whats the best and safest way to do it ?
Will wiping data be involved ?
Sent From My Fully Rooted HTC Evo 4G Via XDA App.
To do NAND backup, you go into recovery. There should be an option for backup/restore (I use Amon_RA so CWM might be different). You do this before wiping your phone to install a new ROM or new kernel/radio/whatever. If something bad should happen when you flash the new stuff, you go back into recovery and do a restore.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Well I'm not going to flash anything yet . Just wanted to know if I should do it now after fully rooted ? Or there is no need to back up yet ?
I'm still learning about rooting & after about a month of being half rooted I finally got the S-OFF today
& got me a custom boot animation & got rid of some stock apps I didnt use .

Most newer roms have a recovery option when you power off
Either clockwork or amonra both have nandroid so just navigate the menus and you will see it.
And make sure your battery is charged up good or you will get an error.

Download ROM Manager from the market. You'll have the option to use Clockwork Mod or Flash Armon recovery so you can be sure

on gingerbread and cant go back

so im stuck on gingerbread, and can only use my backup with is a gingerbread one, when i reload cwm 2.5.x through fastboot its doesnt work just loas the rom and never boots past the htc screen. being stuck on gingerbread aint the worst but i always like to move around. any ideas?
try flashing the recovery from rom manager, this will install the 2.5 recovery. fastboot flash will only work if you have the eng h-boot, radio s-off won't do.
yeah got the eng h-boot
and im geting into 2.5, and it says it loads but no dice.
doing the install through rom manager just force closes on gingerbread for me.

You can't flash back to CM6 via the ROM Manager. You need to flash CWR v2 via the ROM manager, boot into recovery and manually flash your CM6 backup. And be sure to do a full wipe of everything before flashing

You should still go the gfree route, they found the initial hack could be overrided; check the Wiki here for a guide to use gfree for those of us that rooted from the get go.

If you want to flash a non-GB ROM, you need the CWM2 (which is what you did). It sounds like after you put this recovery back though, you tried to flash a GB backup? This won't work (since anything GB requires CWM3).
If you have the CWM2 recovery, just go download any Froyo-based ROM you want to use, place the zip on you SD card, boot into recovery, and apply the zip.
nah just tried to flash a 2.2 rom through cwm2.5 no backup will only flash gb backup through 3.0.0.5

[Q] I cannot seem to restore my nandroid back up

I have a Telus DHD and I just temprooted the phone and installed clockworkmod 3.0.0.5. I did a nandroid backup and when I go to restore the it after trying out several roms, it won't boot past the HTC screen. I tried starting over and installing the stock Telus rom and nandroid backup again and restore and still the same thing. Does anyone have this problem?
I'm not 100% sure but I think the problem is the CWM version. Did you make the backup with CWM 3.0.0.5?
You need permanent root and s off (I recommend eng s off).
Follow the guides in the development section.
Also try a non 3 series clockworkmod recovery if you're using a 2.2 rom.

how would i change the rom manager if i cannt boot the phone passed the htc screen please help
Ok. Don't worry, this can be repaired.
First you need to see if you can reboot into recovery.
Take the battery out and restart the phone by holding volume down and power. This will take you to the bootloader. Then using the volume buttons scroll down to recovery and select using the power button.
Next you should get a screen with the red triangle on it. When you see this, hold volume up and press power. Then select wipe data factory resest. This will wipe all your data but ce la vie dude.
If this doesn't work you need to flash a pd98img.zip file from the bootloader. Get back to me and I'll help if needed. Good luck.

im using cwm3.0.0.5 it says its restoring my backup but wont go past htc screen after reboot i can get into cwm with no problem ive tryed clearing the cache and factory wipe ive tryed reinstalling the rom that i had working on the phone before this happend nothing i dont know what to do and i need help many thanks
Don't restore. It won't work without soff and perm root. Factory reset the reboot. Does your phone reboot without trying to restore?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
in hboot it says eng s-off
Can you reboot without restore? Do you have sdk on your pc?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
i dont have sdk and when i reboot it stays on the htc white screen and goes no further i have to remove battery and hold down and power to get to hboot and recovery from there takes me to cwm 3.0.0.5
Ok. So we need to flash on older clockwork. Email me and I'll reply with the files you need then I'll talk you through flashing the recovery from fastboot. You have the wrong version of clockwork. The one you have is for 2.3 based roms.

Can't install any ROMs to SGH-T999V

Well, I tried Cyanogen, AOPK and now I tried PARANOID 2.0.
None of them works, GAPPS works, but I get the Status 7 error while installing a ROM, i'm using the SGH-T999V and none of them works.
How are you trying to install them?

You are rooted and trying to install with cwm or twrp recovery, right.
I ask because that error reminds me of stock recovery for some reason...

d2tmo wrong device?
Status 7 errors can occur in ClockworkMod for everyone saying he's using a stock recovery.
Make sure your rooted and you should be good
Hey SGH-T999V,
I think we'd all love to help, but we need some more information. Can you tell us step by step exactly what you are doing? Once we have that, I think we will be able to help you past this.
I am fully rooted with clockworld recovery 5.0.4 or something, installing zip from sdcard then Status error 7 and yeah...
From what I've gathered, status 7 errors usually occur when the ROM is incompatible with the device e.g when flashing a CDMA rom on a GSM phone. My first advice would therefore be to confirm that the zip file is for the correct GS3 variant. You mentioned aokp and CM. Both these ROMS refer to the T999 as "d2tmo" and the zip files usually contain this in the name (e.g cm-9-20120909-NIGHTLY-d2tmo.zip). I would therefore check this first before anything else.
Assuming that's not the issue, some suggestions would be:
1. This is a longshot, but try toggling signature verification and see what happens. I doubt this is the issue but I have had update zips fail because this was accidentally toggled
2. Try updating CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766552
3. Try changing the recovery to TWRP and see if its the recovery. The easiest way I've found is to use the GooManager app. Install from the play store. Run the app. Hit the menu key and select Install OpenRecoveryScript. Reboot into the TWRP recovery and try flashing from there.
4. Try rerooting the device from scratch
I got this error when I rooted using the Sprint method. I had to reflash cwm using Rom manager before I could install Cyanogen

I had the same problem. I updated cwm and it fixes it. Your version is old....
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 2
Just updated CWM to 6.0.1.2 and tried to flash with TWRP... same Status 7 error with every single ****ing ROMs i'm trying to install.
Wiped everything many times before installing zip, nothing works... i'm giving up and downloading stock ROM until Samsung releases official JB 4.1.
You might have to go back to stock and root it again
Sent from my SGH-T999V using XDA Premium HD app
could try installing the roms with Odin
Could try downloading the roms using Rom manager pro and having it install them
You just got to get one to work and you'll be golden
Is it a setting problem in cwm?
Like toggling allow installation of unsigned packages

Just update cwm to a newer version. I promise that'll fix it.

Hi, there,
just looking for solution for the same problem and got this thread...
well, I was rooted and on cyanogen and everything worked fine.
had backups and stuff.
decided to return to stock just to have it updated and backed up and after that to return to cyanogen.
when in CWM, after stock, while re-root-ing, I did a fix permission which erased some of my system files in the backups, so all my backups on the phone became useless (lesson #1: always move your backups away from the phone).
decided to start from scratch, so using ODIN I flashed the proper stock ROM for T999V. Installed the CWM version 5. something, superuser etc.
made a backup this time and store it outside the phone
when I tried to flash the cyanogen 10.0 for m2tmo (which I've flashed before without trouble), I got the error message as our friend here.
I edited the updater-script file in order to erase the first lines and got it flashed...
the problem that I have right now is that I am stuck in the first screen when the cyanogen keeps going round and round and round.... and nothing happens
any suggestion from here?
http://wiki.rootzwiki.com/ClockworkMod_Recovery#Status_7
The status 7 error can be from a bad download, bad signature, and I have seen it from using an old version of clockwork. I would first make sure you are running the most current version of recovery. if that doesn't solve your problem try redownloading the Rom.

Trickdroid help

i switched from mimicry to trickdroid recently and i cant get past the white htc screen. i already posted about this and ive been getting help but i noticed that it was in a ONE S section and so im guessing theres going to be some problems later. anyway, i already flashed boot.img and everything. nothing seems to work. my phones been turning off randomly lately as well. what should i do? un-root and re-root? or flash the PC10IMG.zip? any help would be appreciated. i dont NEED trickdroid but i hear its one of the best right now. i loved mimicry but the battery would go from 100 to 20, back up to 60? something was off.
Problem flashing trickdroid may be you have the wrong bootloader, you will need the desire z one as it has a larger system partition required for that ROM. You shouldn't need to fastboot flash a kernel unless you used the HTC dev bootloader method to gain root. If you rooted properly with gfree than you can just flash the new bootloader via fastboot, see here for more details
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27796375
If you want see post 30 in that thread for a pc10img.zip that may be easier for you but fastboot is always safer.
As for the issues with the battery I doubt its mimicry, and I also doubt you will have a faster phone with trick droid, maybe prettier if you want sense though.

Okay so i switched my hboot to the DZ one and its working! i just have one more question, i had to partition my sd card and enable swap to make it run smoother. so i did that, flashed cwm, went to partition sd, 128, 256, and it was done. then i noticed everything on my sd card was gone and new folders appeared. it seemed more organized but everything was gone. was this supposed to happen?
Yeah that will happen, think of a format as a super wipe. If you use 4ext recovery you may be able to add/change swap or ext partition but always backup first

okay, thank you so much. you actually got it to work for me. now im having trouble with the tweaks haha. i dont really need tweaks anyways. at first i flashed the tweaks and it got stuck at the htc desire HD screen. so i superwiped, and flashed the trickdroid rom again. do i have to partition sd and run swap_enabler script again? or will i never have to run it again because i already did it once.
Don't need to repartition sd card, it will stay as is untill you reformat it. I don't use trick droid but if it doesn't have swap built in by defult you need to run the enable script at any reflash
