I have a Telus purchased Galaxy Nexus which I have rooted, installed CWM and first upgraded to stock 4.0.4 yakju then have been running AOKP since. I have had bad reception with the phone for a while now. Not slow connection just no reception alot of the time or it really fluctuates alot. I was wondering if i have to flash back to a Canadian radio to get better reception here in Canada? or is there something else that I have forgot during all of what I have done?
Any radio should technically work, as I'm on Bell, using an European radio.
so technically it may not be the radio thats causing me the issues then? is there anything else i can look into?
either that or i may have to get rid of the phone to get something that i can atleast make phone calls and send txt.
I'm not saying it's anyones fault, but I also ran AOKP with tons of signal issues. But ever since I switched to rascream ROM and Trinity Kernel its been a non issue. I would just suggest flashing a few alternatives and see if anything else works better for you.
Btw, I'm also on Telus.

Did you think it was an improvement over 3.37.78 or not? Any better GPS locks?
Hello. I am running ROM 1.15.VZW & radio 3.42.30 & no GPS signal. I went thru the whole process of unlocking it but it looks like there is no luck. I still don't get any signal. I even waited outside in open air for 30min under the LA's heat but no signal. Maybe I did something wrong.
I'm running that newest radio and I haven't noticed much of a difference at all. Maybe some weird radio bugs were fixed, but nothing you'll see in day to day use. It's not really worth the trouble, IMO.
I am not sure how we can unlock the GPS on Verizon touch. I went thru all the steps of unlocking and still there is no signal. Any body out there that have tried this to see if it really unlockes the GPS or not?

This personally worked for me on my Verizon XV6900: LINKY
The attached cabs in that post are both GPS registries, not to be confused with the carrier cabs. Pick from the two, I recommend the Telus. Also I said V13 in the post, but obviously you should flash the latest ROM when you finish flashing everything else.
There was a thread on this very same issue a little while back, the consensus was there was virtually no difference between the two, despite the larger number the 3.42 radio was in no way really 'superior.' In fact, some people reported better reception on 3.37. Having used both, I would agree they're indistinguishable.
i get 6-8 locks in google maps within a minute and im using 3.42.30
I'm on Sprint... And I use to use 3.42.50 and my signal was not really good. So I recently switched to 3.37 and my signal is great... I have a question, is it not smart to use a Verizon radio on sprint..?
I used .50 bell for many months. Switched back to VZ radio a few weeks ago. A very slight increase in reception. I can go about 3 feet further in my house and still talk than I could with the bell radio. No real diff though.
Hello,
I bought a SGN and 4G was acting really flaky on me, as in even dropping calls. I had No Signal Alert installed and I was loosing connection about every 15-20 mins. In any event, I took it to a VZW store and held my Nexus next to theirs. I dropped connection, theirs didn't.... I exchanged my phone.
Now, I have a new Nexus and it is working great! No drops, speed isn't the best, but I will happily take slower speeds over dropouts. I have not updated this phone to 4.0.2 intentionally because it is working so well. Is there a copy of the 4.0.1 radio anywhere? I don't want to update and be stuck with 4g issues again.
Current baseband is I515.09 V.EK01 / I515.EK02 (4.0.1)
Does the baseband change in 4.0.2? Can someone confirm?
If so, how can we get back to the 4.0.1 radio?
Thanks!
on 4.0.2 mine shows
I515.09 V.EK05/I515.EK02

Thanks man! So I wonder if there is anyway to get an update.zip of the old 4.0.1 baseband/radio?
I don't want to update to 4.0.2 unless I know I can revert back to the old baseband/radio.... I may have to root the phone in 4.0.1 and try to block the update.
I have this strange feeling that the 4g dropping issues were introduced in 4.0.2.
i never got to use mine before the update. im guessing it was updated at the store before i got it. havent had any signal issues on the new one yet.
Yup, a lot of people in various forums complained that signal issues began after upgrading to 4.0.2.
the stock 4.0.1 radio should be in the package for your device here --> http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html#yakju
the GSM 4.0.2 stock image has a new radio image in, so i assume the others do as well.
Well I just tried flashing my LTE Nexus with the 4.0.1 radios and now only wifi works. I'm trying things now and I will report back if anything changes.
Thanks for the link!
In answer to my own question... I upgraded to 4.0.2 and the radio performance appears to be on par with 4.0.1.
This just confirms that my original SGN, which dropped all data and cell connections every 15-20mins had bad hardware. My new phone works fine with 4.0.2 and the same sim.

DO NOT USE THIS PACKAGE ON VERIZON PHONES!
This is the base package for GSM phones, not Verizon's CDMA/LTE phones. Flashing this will cause the radios to become useless until you flash the correct files.
The GSM version is base yakju, while the CDMA/LTE version is mysid.
The radio files you'd want/need are here hxxps://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/mysid-icl53f-factory-65895fa8.tgz (replace hxxp with http).
And if you don't want to take my word on it, here's where I found those files hxxps://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/android-building/pJDz7jxCNkk/hH5q1W6x0iwJ
Hope this helps someone.
Hi all
I've seen a few threads relating to LTE Nexus signal issues but none on the GSM.
I got annoyed with waiting for the OTA for the volume fix and 4.0.2 update so I flashed both of them manually.
Since the volume fix update I have noticed that my signal drops quite frequently during calls at my home and at my GF's house regularly dropping the call. Signal is normally 2-3 bars of edge. During a call this will drop to 1 bar with choppy audio and will drop the call almost everytime. Once the call has terminated the signal will then jump back to 3 bars allowing my to call again straight away.
My carrier is Vodafone UK, i'm wondering if anyone else is experinencing something similar? This only seemed to have happened after the volume fix update and 4.0.2 hasn't improved the situation. Before the fix was released my signal never dropped in my home but obviously the volumegate issue was apparent since i can only get GPRS/EDGE in my home.
+1
I have the same problem with my h3G galaxy nexus and it's pretty annoying.
What baseband do you have? Setting/about phone/baseband version... im on vodafone uk and had problems after a flash so flashed the KK6 version and now its fine.
Lol there are plenty of GSM poor signal threads on here. Including mine

I have the KK1. Is there a way to flash the baseband without wiping the device?
I thought the signal problem was also lte. Anyone else expierecing the problem for the gsm unlocked and running on tmobile?
My signal keeps dropping every 30 minutes or so. Loosing the complete mobile network for about 10 seconds. It is really annoying.
Noone replied to my thread on the biggest German Android board. Started to think that I'm the only one until I found this thread.
Having tmobile.

I am on ARHD 2.1.2. With XXKK6 base and, when I make call the person on the other end can only hear me very faintly sometimes not at all. This from is 4.0.2. I had the same problem on custom 4.0.3. I don't know what to do next. I have tried going back to XXKK1, which didn't work so I went back to XXKK6. Anyone else with this issue?or suggestions on how to fix would be greatly appreciated!

AT&T
Having same problem with ATT. Switch of SIM did not help. About ready to send phone back! Any fix or help in future? Back to N1 now!
I'm on the XXK6 baseband.
I muxst of been searching wrong as I have found a couple of other threads with similar issues. I'm going to try a SIM swap next.
I am Italian too and use H3G network as Riku101.
When buy SGN with radio KK1 had little problems in signal, specially during a coversation without a strong signal.
All these problems was fixed with KK6, now SGN work really good, and the develop of software and radio versions are only at the begin...
I flashed KK6 radio through fastboot and now everything's fine

I have been using the GNex for a couple days and it has been a nightmare.
I have no signal whatsoever in my own house. I used to have Galaxy S II and used it at the same place with no issues. I have tried every single radio available for the GNex and they all seem to fail!
I have also installed custom roms, CM9, AOKP, now using Jelly Bean and i love it but the signal..
Does anyone knows if this has a fix?? Or is just dead faulty phone??
Plz help!

You could ask for a new sim or look at a coverage checker. But it sounds faulty to me :/

So, gsm model, you on radio LA2? Does it have good network reception elsewhere, or is it just at your home that signal is too weak?
Like the poster before me said, have you tried another sim card? Have you tried placing your current sim card in another phone?
You use stock kernel right? Have you tried a custom kernel with smart reflex activated?

The phone actually gets weak signal and lost of connection everywhere. But since at my house i don't have a GREAT! signal it just vanishes.
The phone was Stock when i bought it and had the Issue it came with XXLA2 Radio and 4.0.4 Lastest ICS Build.
After i noticed the issue i rooted and tried all the radios available and roms with no luck. all leave me with low signal.
I sued to have a GS2 and had 2 to 3 bars at home so its a huge difference .
Now iam running JB 4.1.1 with latest Radio XXLF1 and same issue,
Something i have noticed is that the phone has Very high dBm... compared to other phones from same Provider.
FYI i live in Puerto Rico and the provider is Claro.

Same problem here with baseband XXLA2 and build IMM76I.
I know there were signal issues with updates from 4.0.2 to 4.0.4 (see here but, if I have understood well, the build IMM76I should have solved that problems.
So the question is: my phone has come out with 4.0.4, XXLA2 and build IMM76I (so already with the fix for signal problems) what could be the problem? Hardware??

Thats what I am afraid off.. I had also XXLA2 and build IMM76I when I bought it, after that i started to install Diff Roms and radios to solve the issue but no luck so far.
I have not seen any issues like this over the internet.. usually with the XXLA2 and build IMM76I everyone is happy so iam afraid this
is just a bad batch of phones.
Witch version do you have and where it has been build. Mine is GT-I9250GSMH from Korea
I'm planning to test some other radio and also intall the JB OTA. I will keep you updated.
Crap! Just updated to 4.1.1 via OTA and the problem is still there! I'm experiencing 10 - 20db less in signal strength than the one I have with a gs2.The baseband now is XXLF1. So I have to assume that is an hw defect and send it to repair? Is anyone experiencing this annoying issue?

I had this happen to a white unlocked GSM Galaxy Nexus i purchased. I ended up just sending it in for a replacement. \o/
Seems to be hardware related.
I wonder If there is a way to fix the phone.. If i just knew what piece of hardware is and if it is worth it... I bought it 2nd Hand and dont think its under warranty. Does some one knows where i can send it for repairs to samsung??

I'm more or less in your same situation. Before sending it to repair I would like to know the signal strength from the ones that are not experiencing this kind of problems (just to compare with mine and for being sure that is my radio with some weird issue).
So can anybody please tell me, in average, which is the signal strength experienced especially in closed spaces (e.g. at home, at office, etc.). I' have a range between -100db and -115db.
PS with your invoice I think that you can ship it directly to a samsung center for repair.
I just sent an email to Samsung support to see what they will do. My phone never goes above -90 and I've had drops in the city where I've never had problems before. My BB sitting right beside my GNex says -77 and the gnex says -95, iphone says like -84... I'm going to see about getting a replacement or something from Samsung.
I have the same Problem ...it´s definately the 4.0.4 ROM ... I sent my GNEX to the support 2 weeks ago and I got it back with an 4.0.1. ROM. But I did the update again . After that I had the signal problem again... and the hotline said to me please don´t update!
I don´t think that it is the Baseband or the Hardware... it must be the ROm or the Kernel.
I don't see anything strange.... You are experiencing exactly my same problems.... I haven't seen any sw solution to this yet... Probably I'm going to send my phone to repair.
I've attempted to go to 4.3 several times trying different roms (i.e. Slimrom, CM, etc). However I'm experiencing serious data drops when going to 4G to 3G and vice versa. My phone will hardly connect to 3G at all. 4G is stable until I try to switch but unfortunately I have to switch b/c I need it to conserve battery life. Any suggestions on how I can get the radio to stabilize on 4.3?
I assume you're on Verizon? All you can do is wait until we get new radios. No ROM is going to fix a driver issue.
Yeah I'm on Verizon. Why are other people reporting they don't have issues?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4
This is a known issue with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus (toro). It happens with pretty much any Verizon phone that gets a major (unofficial) update- data tends to break or be unreliable until there is a radio update from Verizon. All the more reason to switch off them and onto a carrier that uses GSM like the rest of the world and US (aside from Sprint).
As for others reporting not having the issue, to put it bluntly, they're likely wrong. If they're being served by a single tower, don't travel much, or are on wifi constantly, they probably just don't notice it. The vast majority of people are reporting this as an issue from what I've read, however.
I haven't heard anything from the toro maintainer- I don't know if he is still actively maintaining the branch. The only absolute way to solve it is to flash back to a 4.2.2-based ROM, unfortunately.
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately the two gsm provider's in my area aren't very reliable. Verizon is the only one with good service in my city. I'm currently on 4.2.2 still. I couldn't stand the data drops so I switched back.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 4
Why does the ROM require different radio drivers? It seems like that would remain the same regardless of software. Does 4.3 Android make different calls to the radio drivers or something?
