HELP EVERYONE
MY HTC ONE V drains faster even in normal use.
I just use the phone for texting
Wifi OFF
Data OFF
GPS and Location OFF
Bluetooth OFF
from 77% after five hours it became 39%
and also is the HTC One V lag? is it normal? how to run the device so smooth?
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE EVERYONE FOR HELPING ME. GRATEFUL :")
Def not normal. My battery with everything on WiFi, sync etc. And playing music for 4 hours my battery is at 72 after 10 hours

You have an app that uses the cpu too much = it eats a lot of battery.
Yea true! Some app is sucking the juice off your battery! See if you have some background app running which is trying to connect to the Internet (Since you have both data n WIfi off). Usually these apps eats up a lot of CPU speed. Could explain the lag issue too
Also does you phone heat up?
Great battery life on this phone. Better than most I've tried. Watch what apps you have installed as well. They might be tapping the juice in the background.

yep something is draining ur battery and eating lot of ram
wt free ram ua having?
and if u use swift key x thn think twice it uses more thn 3mb ram when u nt using 50+ whn ua using
soo think ovr it
dnt keep screen brightness to max
it will drain juice twice faster whn ua at home keep it low and when out 25% is enough to make u see the screen in bright daylight

Yes I must point out that the battery life on this phone as I have observed is quite above average.

I definitely agree on that. At this day and age of smartphones and their battery lives, this phone is rather exceptional.
Use apps like Watchdog and Wheres is my droid power to check what is using more cpu/battery! And remove it or find a alternative

Its always better to install apps which are without ads (mostly freewares are like that only). Keep the brightness at optimum coz its the screen which uses most of the battery.
The more the softwares are running at a moment, the more the RAM is used and hence the battery runs out qiuckly.
Dont keep wi-fi or internet connectivity open always.
Or else u can install third party softwares like Juicedefender or Easy Battery Saver.
Oh and most importantly NO TASK KILLERS!

Or you can install the program AdFree, set the adress ip for ads to be ignored and you will have your phone ad free .
And those softwares "juicedefenders" are good on a short term but on the long run it causes problems.
Use it as stock without any programs that help you to have more battery or **** like this..
Check the battery usage through Settings > Power > Battery use.
No need to use a third party app for this (unless you've removed this by any means).
Sometimes software issues cause these problems on the phone (even on the stock ROM). Common culprits are "Phone is idle", "Inactive" and "Android system". If these are reporting battery use above ~10% (and you haven't actually had the phone inactive for most of the time), the problem should be resolved with a factory reset.
Otherwise, unless you've tampered with the bootloader this would be covered under the 24 month manufacturer's warranty (12 outside EU) and the device should be sent in for a battery swap / given back to retailer as DOA.
Also, the device isn't the fastest one. The processor is running at 1Ghz with 512Mb of RAM to go along with it. The solution is to load a kernel with overclocking capabilities (Titanium for example) and crank up the CPU to 1,5 or 1,7 GHz. I would assume all of them can run 1,5 GHz as I suspect the processors are actually underclocked to keep battery life long.
Obviously this would reduce your battery life, but having less than 24 hours of battery life on an unmodified One V is what I would call poor unless you are a heavy user.
I hope this helps.

Actually, a good kernel can improve battery life even if you overclock your cpu. HTC's kernel doesn't come with all the tweaks available for volting and battery life. So if a good dev makes a good kernel, the battery should be the same as running on stock, but with faster performances. Adi_Pat has done a great job with his kernel. I was running it for 2 days until I needed to get a replacement for my phone and now I am waiting to get a new one so I can run it again. I even overclock it at 1.9 ghz and run it for 1 full day and after almost 8h of wifi on, the battery still had 50%. So if you don't have an app that kills your juice, you have definitely a poor battery built in.
does it lag
it was going to buy this phone but saw this vid /watch?v=JptIYZl8qmE that said it was very lag. do you think i should buy this or the sony arc s. plz help
I had some similar issues until I did the following:
Run the battery completely dead until the phone shuts itself off, then put it on the charger with the phone off. Charge it until it is at 100%. Take it off the charger and turn it on. Turn it off again, put it back on the charger until the LED is green, then turn it on again. This helps Android to calibrate the battery.
Install Quick System Info and see what apps are running and how much resources they are using. Also, close all apps, then go into Settings>Apps>Running and see what is running. Look for any apps that shouldn't be running and uninstall them. You have something running in the background and need to get rid of it, this will help you do that.
Uninstall Swiftkey X or Thumbs Keyboard or any other keyboard apps you put on there. Uninstall any weather/clock widgets like HD Widgets or Animated Weather. Use the stock keyboard and stock weather widget (they both work pretty well).
After doing all of this I consistently get home after 10 hours from work with about 60% after moderate usage. I also have almost no lag unless I am playing a more graphically intensive game. Couldn't be happier.

I got my Desire in april and ever since I've never managed to get the battery to last more than a day.
I've tried different ROMs (Defrost, OpenDesire with and without Sense, MoDaCo r4, DJDroid, Neophyte, Pays-rom 2.1) but it's always the same: almost no drain in sleep mode but as soon as I turn the screen on and start using it the battery goes down ~20% every hour. I don't believe that's normal since some people get 3-4 days out of their battery.
For example, today my phone has been on for 2½ hours and lost 43% battery with WiFi on, just surfing the net and using Tapatalk.
The screen brightness is fixed at 30%, auto-sync off, bluetooth off, network mode set to WCDMA only and I have good 3G reception where I live.
I have no clue what to do, maybe someone else does?
I have the same life spend for my battery. I think its quite normal for desire. Unless I'm abnormal too : x

You can use setCPU to underclock the processor or to create rules to make it powersaver.
I (as many other people) have one for setting the max/min processor to 245MHz when the screen is off, so it doesnt waste so much battery. I havent tested a lot, since I did it yesterday but the battery is lasting longer.
Also there are different ROMs that have better battery life...

With Ultimate Juice installed, I saw an increase of up to 2.5x.

I've tried it but it's not helping since I'm not syncing anything automatically anyway and the battery isn't drained with screen off.
It's when I start using the phone my battery percentage goes bananas.
And btw I know how you feel, I live in Sweden and we don't have paid apps here. Thank god for MarketAccess.

My Desire was acting like that during my first 2 days of usage. The battery was draining really fast even in standby mode. I installed advanced task killers and after that the battery improved. I do not know if it is because this app or there were some other configurations that I accidentally did...
But the battery life right now is way better than before (even lasts longer than my previous iphone 3gs). Hope this helps =D
I have pretty decent battery life and I use the stock unrooted unmodified rom. Some apps completely obliterate battery life. I used to keep eBuddy open, but I found that it kills my battery faster then anything else.

Hmm, when you say "just surfing the net", you're actually using WiFI + AMOLED + CPU, which are 3 of the biggest battery drains on the device.
IME, you can get days out of the phone, but if you actually have the screen turned on all of the time (i.e. you're actually using the phone), then 20% per hour probably isn't that insane. After all, that's 5 hours of continuous use, which isn't too awful from a modern smart phone.
Honestly, I think the answer might be "Yes, it does that" and "you'll probably need to charge it during the day". I've taken to charging mine on the way to work and back again (about 45 mins each way) and I'm still at 90% at bedtime.
Oh, and forget JuiceDefender. Yes, it makes a difference...but only when the screen is turned off. As soon as you start using it (and that's what you're obviously doing here), it shifts out of the way. Once I realised this, I uninstalled it...never looked back.

Oh, couple of other notes. Bluetooth doesn't make that much difference unless you're actually using it. 3G uses quite a bit more power compared to 2G. Consider switching to 2G when you're on WiFi. (sadly, no automated way to do this )
i am not using any of these tools.
i have wifi always on 3g on
no live wallpaper and push mail (k-9) with 2 accounts
my battery lasts 1,5-2 days. with phone turned off during the night. 0am till 7am.
i am surfing a lot and writing a lot emails.

Here comes a hint:
Turn off ALL unnecessary widgets like "Bluetooth", "GPS", "WiFi". Turn off also "Mobile"-internet widget, and turn it on only when u want to update some apps or check your mail.
I have noticet that "Mobile"-internet widget drains hell of a lot battery, but if u turn it off now and then u will have ure phone, like I had, for 6 days - with one charge!

I have been using Htc Desire + Motorola Milestone + samsung galaxy s these few days. It seems that my Desire, although lowest usage used up battery faster than milestone and galaxy, even in sleep mode! ( As for background syncing, milestone and galaxy used instant while desire is set to sync every 4hrs)
Is there anyway to at least increase the battery life?
In the first tow weeks the battery will not preform optimal, it needs a couple of charges before it operates as it should. Also if it seems that the battery drains to fast even in sleep mode, install current widget, set it to refresh every 5 minutes and to write a log. Normally the phone should use 5 to 10 mA on average during normal 3g standby (everything that allows push is set to push) and not more than 1 mA in flight mode. If your consumption is substantially higher than this you have either some very bad sync settings or there is a app running/syncing in the background when it should not be doing that. To check this dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to the battery usage and check the partial wake time.
Also are you using a task killer or does your Desire have worse mobile connection that the other phones (different network)?
To answer your question, yes there is something you can do to increase the battery life. There are different apps that help safe battery life, you can underclock and/or undervolt the cpu, swiching form 3g to 2g when no heavy internet is required, using as much a possible dark colors (only for amoled i believe) or lowering the background light.
But all this won't matter much if there is a background process which prevents the phone from sleeping.

Thats not nice, my total cell standby and phone idle times total about 80% of the battery usage and i get 2 days out of one charge and if i don't play with it a lot and only use it as a phone( ) i got 3 days for one charge.
Oh one more thing, I got an S-LCD unit with a snow wallpaper.

I've been using CyanogenMOD 7 and love it (mostly). The one thing I don’t like about it is the short battery life. I'm kind of new to rooting phones so it took me a bit to get it rooted and get CM7 rolling. I was wondering if there are any mods out there like CM7 that have better battery life? Or if there's any thing I can add to CM7 to give it more batter life?
I've been using android since the first phone came out so I’m already knowledgeable in what to turn off to try and extend the battery life, but I have noticed a big decrees in batter since installing CM7.
Thanks for the help guys

your phone automatically underclocks your processor when it sleeps (for most CPU governors), you do not need to tell it to do so.
I'm not picking on you fyi, I'm just making sure we are giving people accurate information... there's only one thing worse than no information: incorrect/incomplete information.
op: which version of CM7 are you running? remember, the more minimal your setup (ie less homescreens, less widgets, manual syncing of gmail and whatever else, etc) the better your battery life will be. this is especially true of newer phones that are getting heftier cpu & gpus that, while intelligent with power consumption, are going to drain even larger capacity batteries relatively quick with moderate/heavy usage.
how long are we talking with battery life? how heavy a user are you? for reference, I get around 16 hours of battery life if I don't charge the phone at all from unplugging to battery dying with moderate to heavy usage (texting ~50 times a day, sometimes up to 100 emails depending on what's happening at work, couple hours of calls, couple hours of streaming music [pandora or audiogalaxy], couple of hours of games [peggle and plants v zombies mostly - both of which are resource hogs], etc).
I have just learned to get used to the fact that the phone is going to die if I use it a lot, so I've purchased three micro-usb cables and a car charger.. that way, unless I'm in an area where there is no charge-capable usb port nearby, I'm always able to get a little more juice if need be.

but i also mean setting the max sleep to 368mhz. by default its set at 800mhz. sometimes with apps running in the background, the processor may go to 800mhz without you knowing
check out 'powersave' and set your cpu max to 806mhz. should last you a nice long time like that. responsiveness suffers, of course.
'ondemand' and 806mhz is the best comprimise for me. still fine with HDvideo recording, streaming audio, Nav, etc
if you really want to make it last... clock down to 400mhz, turn off all the sync, set brightness and timeout to minimum, all the radios off (airplane mode), and the volume down, on vibrate.

But some govenors don't drop the sleep to the lowest profile. In fact almost all keep it above the lowest clock. Other kernels allow it and you can also use third party to set it lower. When the tweaKr script becomes universal it will be even better =)

It suffers in powersave because it stays at the lowest setting only. No reason to set to 806. Lol and that bottom comment is hella funny =), but if he does that his phone will just be...a waste of pocket space.
Your best bet is to do some research on kernels. If you are using cm7 to cm 7.0.3 id recommened pyros kernel. If you are on 7.1 or a nightly over 121 I believe id go with eugene's streamline5. It did wonders for mine Also there is a battery saving tips. Google G2 battery saving tips. Should be first link that comes up.

Mugen 3600mah = better battery life...
Can you elaborate on what kind of battery life you are getting now? How many hours, and for what level of usage?
How long have you been on CM? It takes a couple charge cycles of the battery after flash any ROM, for the battery meter to be accurate. Clear battery stats (as mentioned) then charge to 100%, let drain to about 20%, repeat a couple times. Don't drain until the phone dies. Some people say to do this, and its not good advice. Over discharge of Li ion batteries can cause them to no longer take a charge. There are people on here, on the Vision and other phones, that let their battery drain to empty, then the phone would no longer boot, forcing them to replace the battery.

I am a heavy texter with medium to low wifi usage. Sometimes I play games on my cell (Everlands) & last night I did some chatting.Usually battery last about a day but sometimes it goes down like after 16hrs which is quite low for what I have heard about this phone. Any way to identify the problem is ?
Maybe that is because I did not really charged uninterrupted on the first day due to constant loadshedding here in my city (about 1.5 hr gap in charging). I've heard Better battery stats is a good way of locating draining problems but I couldn't really understand it well enough to use it to my advantage.
Also I have set my brightness to lowest most of the time so thats quite surprising. Also net usage is mostly web browsing, no google maps or auto sync feature enabled as far as I know. Any tips about locating the problem ? Could hard reset possibly solve this issue ? Anyway my phone is less than 1 month old (3 weeks old) so should I consider taking it to service centre & getting battery replaced. Please help.

The battery is calibrating within 3 weeks if the phone is new (5-10 charge cycles) so the problem might not be a real one.
Are you on stock rom, stock kernel?
IF not, do you have kernel with overclock capabilities (titanium kernel, kiss kernel)?

The calibration thing sounds interesting. Everything is on stock. The phone is unrooted though I once thought of rooting it & rebooted the phone in recovery. How much does the battery last for u ? Right now battery has gone from 100 to 86% in 12hrs with somewhat lighter usage. Is this normal ?

I'm having 48% after 10 hours with screen on at 61% but it is like this because i plugged in to my computer last night to put something on the sdcard.
In general your informations are alright, that is a fairly good battery life. Remember that you have a smartphone with gpu and cpu, and it is normal to eat battery even if when you don't play with it because it makes stuff in the background.
The great battery life i got at 3 days with 50% screen on, wifi, calls, sms at 10-15% but not on stock, using CM9/Paranoid Android and tweaked kernel for better battery life .
In conclusion, don't worry about it. Your battery is fine!
If you really want better battery life try flashing a custom kernel like KISS or Titanium and undervolt your CPU.
I managed to undervolt mine alot (-300mV while idle) and battery life increased to almost 3-4days, which is really impressive compared to 1.5days it lasted before.

How could you undervolt that low? It doesn't freeze your phone? At what frequency did you undervolt this low?

Its usually 1-1.5 days for me,its always on eater wifi or mobile network.
And i text a lot.Gmail,Whatsapp etc.
Screen is mostly at 70-80%.
As far as i am considered thats good,a lot of phones these days cant even get to 24h.
It works perfectly stable with the following settings:
Clock VDD (mV)
'24576 700'
'61440 700'
'122880 700'
'184320 700'
'192000 700'
'245760 700'
'368640 700'
'768000 850'
'806400 850'
'1024000 950'
Took me about 2 days to find them.
Sadly you cant go any lower then 700mV, seems to be a kernel restriction.

In my last charge the battery ran for about 1 day 6hrs when it said low bat, which is fine for me. However few times it oddly discharged like in 18hrs. Maybe I played too much games & used a lot of wifi at that time.
is there any apps that will actually improve your battery life at all? currently being rooted and have the pacman rom flashed to my gsm version.

You can also try One Power Guard:

With juice defender is it possible to have the icon in the status bar, but nothing in the notification drawer?

You just have to try and see... Hopefully this app will work also for you... :fingers-crossed:
"Battery calibration" is snake oil. Period.
Also, I have 2 stock One V's in the family, rooted but no custom ROMs. Both devices on occasion (once a day at least) appear to be in sleep mode but taking the phone into a completely dark room reveals the backlight is still on (albeit very dim).
This is the only thing I see that's keeping my stock ROM from outstanding battery life. Even as is it get good battery life, but I also double check periodically to make sure the screen really is off.

It's all over xda. However, here's a link:

It's from Dianne Hackborn, android developer for Google.
from here
Root your phone, put kernel titanium kiss, make it with 1.2GHz and smartassV2 cpu governor and than flash with full wipe myOneV 8.0 rom, put display brightness to automatic you will have stunning results.
P.S. make back ups to your data but do not restore it all from recovery
Hello Champs.. I am first time user to this forum so pls excuse any idiot questions if it may seem.
I tried to go through threads to find answers but got completely confused, so though to put my question in simple words here.
I have Desire HD running task killer and Juice defender ultimate with extreme power saving option set and also optimized settings but still my phone don't last more than a day of normal usage. I just check emails, read news and call.. I do not play games and use any CPU intensive app. Phone is not rooted and running 2.3.5v of android
One of my friends told me after flashing ROM, battery power is improved by 40% in case of his tablet, so I am wondering if there is any suggestion for me to use for my Desire HD mobile. I have tried all options at application and settings level to improve the battery life.
As I am not too techincal in this field, if someone could write me few high level steps from start to end to get better battery life ROM and / or jellybean on Desire HD, I'll try to find out low level details of those steps in this forum and root (and flash) my mobile.
My sole requirement is to get as much battery as possible and if possible, some latest android version (4.1 or 4.2) to avail the new features.
Also, would there be an option to take the snapshot of current mobile setup in case if rooting / flashing goes wrong, I could revert back to the current version without loosing settings / data.
Thanks for your help.
two things, go to settings>about phone> battery
Or something like that. Take screenshots of your battery consumption, and the amount of time for each. Without that we can't know what's really causing your battery drain.
That said, a day of use will pretty much wind down your phone, the DHD has a very poor battery, decent sized screen, and most modern smartphones don't last terribly long anyways. However, you said you weren't using it too hard, so I'm not sure what it could be
As for juice defender, make sure that the intervals are set to no less than 15 minutes. 10 minutes pushing it. if you set it to 5 minutes, your phone will constantly be waking up from sleep (ultra battery saving mode), and constantly enabling and re-enabling radio. That'll cause more drain than it will save. At 15 you'll notice definitive increases, and at greater your battery will only get better.
Get rid of the task killer, or disable autotask killer and keep task killing to an absolute minimum. Never kill all your user apps at once. Kill only very large resource hogs (e.g. after playing a game, kill it). An autotask killer is very bad for your phone, and for your battery. Linux naturally tries to keep as many processes 'running' or cached in the background, using up a lot of your ram- it makes multitasking better, so in linux this is a good thing. With windows, it does the opposite, and if you run out of RAM you're screwed. A task killer will try to ruin that behavior, and in the end both performance and battery life will suck. It hurts battery life because after you kill that app, it'll just restart itself in the background- using more CPU therefore battery. Plus it also wakes your phone up from sleep when it needs it. I would only recommend a task killer for a phone with 512mb of RAM.
If it's an older battery, you could also have lost a lot of it's charge. I recommend installing battery monitor widget, and letting it run in the background. It'll estimate your mAH (battery capacity). If it's over 1,000, you're fine. If it's around 800, not bad, still doable. If it's at around 600, I would recommend going in for a replacement battery. I'm using an Anker 1500 (amazon), and I highly recommend it. Mugen 1600 is very good one, but it'll cost you a lot more money. I would not recommend an original HTC one.
finally, installing a custom ROM may or may not help battery life. With HTC Sense based ROMs, I've noticed a battery increase. In AOSP (unmodded, as google intended) gingerbread ROMs, you'll also notice a battery increase. With AOSP ICS, JB4.1.2 and 4.2.1 battery life is hit and miss, some ROMs will get you better battery, some will get you worse. You'll need to experiment around with it.
Also, yes you can backup everything after you install a custom recovery. I recommend looking up AAHK (advanced ace hack kit) on google and youtube, as well as rooting and S-OFF in general on youtube.
Thanks for your reply... Really appreciated. I'll look at the suggestions and see if it is unnecessary to root if 1 day battery is expected.
Do you think recommended high power battery actually improves usage time or people just compare their used up battery with new high capacity ones and think they hv got more juice in it. If high capacity ones really give another 2-3 hours of browsing as compared to OEM 1230 mah battery, I would rather buy it instead of flashing Rom.
