I read a lot of discussions about testing radios. Since radio quality differs depending on location, provider, and even ROM, I thought it's best to start a new thread on best radio by location, similar to others have done for other phone models.
This is a Google Public Map that we can use to add “placemarks” of the radios that work best in your area. Use the directions below to add your area and describe your preference.
Instructions: PC only (does not work on mobile phone)
1. Click the Map below
2. Click the EDIT button

3. Click Add a Placemark at the top and place on map at your location and which radio works the best
4. In the placemark pop up box, enter the "Title" which would be the general location and a "Description" which would be the radios that work best for your area. When you are finished, click "OK" in the lower right of the box. For example,

This does exactly as the title states. It will also swap positions of the menu and back keys. However there are some bugs, for example the status bar will disappear on boot and when applying themes until you force a notification. For instance taking a screenshot will bring it back. This is caused by adding a background to the ticker text so it doesnt overlap the clock. Im currently looking for a solution so if anyone has any ideas please let me know.
I personally run MIUI.us builds and have a LTE GNex but I believe this should work on any build regardless of LTE/GSM, as long as you are on the latest build (2.4.6). However please back up before flashing because I have no way of testing on a GSM phone.

I think things are a little different in ICS, and I think all that app does is creat another ERI.xml so thats why you get the double carrier. I'll do some digging and asking to see if I can get it removed.

Yeah it is practiced a lot in some areas due to city regulations I believe. It looks plain silly to me but oh well I ain't complaining if I can get perfect reception at my local park where I can go relax or study with amazing LTE coverage haha.
Here in Arizona they make the towers look like palm trees.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Hahha ya there's an ATT tower down the road to me next to some firm trees that is dressed up as a tree and it perfectly fits in.
Anyways. I'm waiting for lte before upgrading. Central Valley and northern cali isn't expected to start network vision till December at the earliest. We'll start getting a dozen or so tower upgrades per week and there's are hundreds of towers in the market so the likelihood of lte being turned on is probably pushed to the springtime anyhow... In time for the galaxy s4!

re: friendly warning
.
Just a friendly warning.
To those of you like myself who have a AT&T I747 Unlocked Galaxy S3 and
are currently on the T-Mobile network, do NOT flash any T-Mobile radios.
If you do you will not have any signal bars and no data and you will have to re-flash the AT&T radio.
I would also advise anyone with a T999 variant (mostly the canadian versions) to skip flashing this as well

You can flash this radio and it should work with any ROM presuming its a SGH-T999 ROM.

I am also seeing significantly better speeds and connectivity on this modem. Before the best modem for me was LI7 as I work downtown and am surrounded by signal blocking buildings. Flashed this one this morning and just ran a speedtest (it is lunch time in my time zone, so I assumed more people will be on-line at this time using/clogging bandwidth), and the speeds were much improved.

Yes, I have noticed a huge improvement. I would even go as far as to say this modem is better on battery. Designing a bloat-free ROM with tweaks right now since the OTA one wasn't even that bad, this one should fly.

My speeds have gotten slower :what: I'll give it a few more days until I pass judgement.

Same thing for me. Slower speeds, but will give it time. =p
slower speeds as well in baltimore md ...where are you guys located?
after flashing the modem, my phone data is really slow right now...anyone know why this happens?
Everyone needs to remember that not all modems are created equal. That is why we have the Map in Doc's Modem thread. It is also why I have been using LI7 which is from 3 leaks and 2 FW updates ago.
One thing that I am seeing from the 4 posters above is that all but @TheLastSidekick (Springfield, MA) are on east coast and having slower speeds ( @RnRexpress3423 is in CT, @Romcrazguy is in Baltimore, MD and @fduong97 is on Boston, MS). Might be something about the market and the modem. @Kamau54 , you are in lower Michigan and similar longitudinal line as myself, have your speeds been better? I am more mid-west but wonder if anyone further west or even west coast could chime in on this.
