So I've been wanting the landscape Desktop Dock with Pogo Pin for my Verizon Galaxy Nexus for quite some time. When they went up on the Play store for $54 I decided to take the plunge. Everywhere I read that the phone would not fit in the dock, it would slowly rise up out of the dock and lose connection with the Pogo Pins. Well, I figured it should be a pretty simple job to modify the dock so that my Verizon phone would fit in it. I wasn't wrong.
The project isn't 100% finished, but its fully functional. All I need to do now is make it look prettier, IF ANYONE KNOWS OF SOME FORM OF PAINT OR FINISHER THAT RESEMBLES SOFT-TOUCH RUBBER PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
Basically all I did was take some 220 grit sandpaper to it, then followed up with some 400 grit to smooth it out. The process took me quite a while because every time I would finish it with the 400 grit the phone would once again start sliding up and lose connection with the pins. I found that you will either need to remove quite a lot of material, or leave the surface relatively rough so that it grips the phone and holds it in place. I initially started with some 100 grit paper, but you have to be very careful as this will gouge the plastic pretty bad. You can smooth it out, but it will take a lot of work. If I did it again I'd start with some 180 grit or so for the primary material removal, then smooth it out with some 250 or 300 grit.
I left the phone all night in the dock and it did not lose connection. I have had it in the dock all morning, with some light use, and the connection hasn't been lost. I am running AOKP B37 and the phone immediately launches the clock app and begins charging when I place it in the dock. Also, the phone charges at AC rate when the dock is connected to a wall outlet. I haven't tested when connected to my PC via USB. Data transfer doesn't work over the Pogo Pins anyway so there isn't really any point to connect it to your PC. AUDIO OUT VIA A PAIR OF CHEAP PC SPEAKERS WORKS FLAWLESSLY, IT IS NOT USING BLUETOOTH.

I initially tried sanding down only the side to the left of the pogo pins, where the bottom of the phone rests. Unfortunately this did not work, I had to remove some material down the entire length of the dock. I also found it very important to sand down the inside edges of the front ridge running along the bottom and sides. Its relatively easy to remove a decent amount of material from these sides, and will help the phone rest on the pogo pins. I also remove a good amount of material from the 'groove' where the top and bottom of the phone slide in.
Its not the prettiest thing right now, but it is functional and I think with a little more sanding and the proper paint I'll be able make it look almost like new.
If you're like me and love having a dock on your desk, don't be afraid to try this out! Its very easy and as long as you don't mind the dock looking a little scuffed.
Thanks. I was really curious how others would approach fitting their Verizon Galaxy Nexus in this dock along with their experiences doing so. Pretty simple fix. I may just try to do this myself.
Your pictures ain't working.
Hmm, pictures work fine for me on phone and desktop, can anyone see them?

Pictures show up on my desktop. Haven't tried on my phone.
Pictures don't work on my desktop when viewing from the forums. When I open an image in a new tab, it gives me HTTP 403: "Rate-limit exceeded That’s all we know".
When I refresh that tab, then it works.
Looks good so far. Just some tips from my experience with this kinda stuff, you need to work up to at least 2000 grit paper. This will get rid of the sanding lines. Also I wouldn't bother with the rubberized material, it's expensive and not going to match anyways. You could go with the cheap plastidip but it will surely come off after a few dozen uses of the dock.
You're definitely on the right track... I would just keep sanding off a little more material at a time until the phone fits without sliding up, then either leave or sand the whole dock and paint the whole thing.
Thanks for the tips. I'll definitely keep that in mind. My primary concern was getting it functional, which it is.

For a soft touch-like surface you can try using spray on plasti-dip. Its a material that you may have seen for dipping tool handles in. It has a nice rubberized surface that covers well. You can get it in black (and a few more colors online) and it isn't terribly expensive. Remember, light coats always.
The actual finish that gets used for on phones and consumer products that we call soft touch is really expensive for you and I to buy. I tried getting some one time for a project and was quoted something like $90/pint. Good luck!
I ordered this dock thinking it would work with a minimal amount of Modding but the design of the dock is molded very specific to the size of the GSM phone. Your fix us encouraging but is it really worth all that work sanding down that beautiful finish? I'm thinking the dock from Samsung might just be the better choice if it ever gets off back order.

The samsung dock for i515 would certainly be preferable, but I was tired of waiting and didn't like the $90 price tag. It was really not much work to sand it down, maybe an hour total just because I was constantly stopping and checking to see how the phone fit. I plan on touching it up a bit and making it look nicer. To be honest though, I'm the only one who ever really sees it, and whenever I see it my phone is in it so I can't even tell .

Yeah I think I'm going to try and contact Samsung to see what the deal is before I buy and mod this one. I mean we've been waiting six months now, it's ridiculous!
TLDR Answer: Rubberized Undercoating
I read this thread the other day and happened to think of a possible solution. If you are familiar with rubberized undercoating for vehicles, this may offer a similar texture to the stock finish. Basically its rubber coating in an aerosol can for preventing rust on the underside of vehicles. It probably wouldn't work too well straight from an aerosol can but if you sprayed some into a jar then thinned it out with lacquer thinner/paint thinner and either lightly brushed it on even sprayed it through an airbrush if available I bet you could get close. I'd just test it out on an old piece of metal or something first and you could even tweak the color by adding a little flat or semi gloss paint to match the stock dock color.

Might give this a go...
"Plasti Dip"
It's used a lot by car modders to give a flat black plastic look to chrome and other trim. Might work, but masking would be difficult.
Other option would be to just polish with finer grits until you match the dull plastic finish.
thanks to op for idea.
i did the same and phone stays in place. not crazy about the look but i was able to get the sanded parts fairly smooth using 400+ grit. im pretty sure if you spent enough time on it you could get it to look pretty good.
to be honest though if the i515 dock was readily available i would probably spend the extra $ for it so as not to have to expend the elbow grease
I bet using a dremel would speed up the sanding process although it wouldnt work in the curves
Awesome!
I just received my $54 dock this week and was going to hit it with the sandpaper this weekend to make room for my VZ Gnex. This post/thread is super helpful! Thanks!!!

Does anyone know if there are any credit card cases for our phone? I was looking for something along the lines of the casemate ones that the iphone has:
http://www.case-mate.com/iPhone-4-Cases/Case-Mate-iPhone-4-ID-Credit-Card-Cases.asp
I have tried looking on google and xda and haven't found anything yet.
Any help would be appreciated!
Hey, sorry I can't help much, but if no one can find one, this would be a great time for me to make one up using CAD, I'll keep in touch maby I can make something up.
Sent from my netarchy_toast, froyo beast of a machine evo!
That would be awesome!
I would definitely order one, it seems so practical to only go happy hour with my phone, ID, and credit card.
Obostore.com sells a leather case that does this. Someone reviewed it on anther forum and said the cut outs didn't line up perfect but didn't get in the way either. Will only hold a few credit cards but I think that is plenty. I ordered one over a week ago and it should be arriving any day now. I'll do a review on it with pics when it arrives if you guys want. Oh, it is less than $10 shipped!!
Swyped from my supercharged Evo
That would be great! I can't wait to see your review!
I'm not a big fan of leather... but we'll see. I want to keep it slim and grippy. Right now I have a clear TPU case on my naked EVO. (no battery cover)

wow Obostore.com has a bunch of stuff for the evo.
I'm also looking forward to the pictures.

Any updates on the review for this case?
Sent from my . Evo 4G using XDA App
I wish man!! Obostore is taking forever to get it to me. I ordered a 2000mah Andida battery from them about 5 days before this case and I've had it for around 2 weeks now. If it doesnt arrive in the mail today (12:30 pm eastern time at the latest) then I will call them or email them and see what the deal is. I am VERY anxious to get this case!!
EDIT: OK, I just looked at my account on Obostore's website and I actually ordered the case 11 days after battery. The case was ordered on the 13th, so it has been 13 days now. I got a good feeling that today is the day. Keeping my fingers crossed.....
OK, just talked to my fiance and the case came in the mail today!! Finally, cant wait to get home and check it out. I told her to open it when she said that I had a package come in the mail today. Her comment was that it looked nice and smelled like real leather. So, we'll see. Pics and my review will be here in this thread tonight before 12 Eastern time.
I cant wait for the review, this is the kind of case that i have been wanting to buy ever since i saw a similair case that my friend had for his iPhone
Nice case, but for some reason I can't stop thinking about the EVO vs. IPhone video.."does it come with a case?"
Ok guys. Went out for a bit when I got off so I got in later than expected. My phone is in the case now and I'm using it to post this. Pictures are uploading now. Just want to use it and play with it a bit to give you guys a fair first impression. So far though......Loving it!!

Just realized how LONG this is..sorry
Well, in just before midnight . OK, so after using this for a couple hours I really do like it. The leather seems like a good quality, it does smell and feel real although I know there are some good fake/synthetics out there, so I really dont know and dont want to give you all false information. So I will just say that the "material" is nice and the stitching is well done on it as well. All of the cutouts, corners, and pockets are great. The Evo fits in it nice and snug, but not too tight where I thought it would scratch the phone. I held it upside down by the credit card side and shook the case and my Evo didnt even offer to slide out . You can see in the pics that my Zagg screen protector is peeling up on the bottom right hand corner and it did pull on that, but everything does as it has been this way for a few days now (just waiting on my replacement from Zagg which is in the mail). You have 2 slots for cards or I.D. on the right side (which are snug) and a compartment behind those where I will put cash(some in the pics for visual purposes, cash slides in there and is out of sight). Also have 2 slots for memory cards. A SD card and a Micro SD card fit in them perfect (as seen in pics). I was worried that the Micro SD would fall out, but actually I had to take my TP2 stylus and push it out. Not because it squeezed it super tight, but due to the design as there is a recessed area for the cards to keep them in place...Nice! In the center there is an area for a stylus or I guess a small ink pen. I actually may add another small hole and insert a lanyard in that area. The clasp looks like a snap button but is magnetic and latches very tight. Easy for you to open but it isnt going to open on accident thats for sure. You have access to volume, power, 3.5mm jack, charging port and HDMI port. Rear camera, leds, and speaker cutouts are very nice and lined up perfect!! Tested a few pics and the case did not interfere at all. Front facing camera is slightly interferred by the case. Also, on a phone call...the case blocks the proximity sensor so the screen stays off. I actually like that, and if you need to access the keypad in call, slide the phone up just slightly and the screen comes on.
Overall, I love it and I think it is unbeatable for $11.99 shipped!! I did not buy this for everyday use but for when I'm going out and want to keep my pockets light. I can carry this instead of my phone and a wallet. I think though that I am going to end up using this much more than I had originally anticipated. I'll let the pics speak for themselves in the next post.

Thanks for the review!
I had no idea the case was that thick... I was looking for something along the lines of the case-mate cases for the iphones. Its a big hassle to get the phone in my pocket as it is, adding such a buff case won't make it any easier.
Maybe, I'll have to custom make one or something...
Too bad there's no belt clip and/or loop.
I've been carrying it the last couple days to get a real feel for it and just because I like it so much. Its been a real pleasure to use and its been nice to leave my wallet behind.
The size is far from an issue for me, as thats what I expected from a case that would hold SO much. Also, I am used to an extended battery and door on my phone with a tpu case, so this is not much bigger really. It drops right in my back pocket without issue. My front pocket (uniform) is where I normally carry my phone, even with the extended battery and tpu case; but it will not fit while in this case. Overall I am very pleased, and it actually surpassed my expectations in function and quality. Hope this all helps some of you decide to either buy, our not buy this case.

damn that holds alot. I need a wallet, heh. great idea for a new one.
I got one question.... Where did you get the wallpaper with all of those little droids??????
Seeing the cracked screen pictures of other's MT4g's led me to look for a good case and the otterbox I've read is regarded as the best but wasn't for sale yet.
I got an email today saying it's now ready and for sale so I thought I'd give you guys a heads up. Mine should be here in a couple of days. Fed ex 2 day shipping was only a dollar more.

$40 shipped. Not exactly cheap but cheaper than a new screen.
Sorry to be the bad news bear but in the accessories section there is a coupon for 10% off and free shipping.
Meh... 8 bucks not a big deal. I'll pass it on to my MT4G owning coworkers though!
When someone gets one please post a review/pics. I'd like to know how this case is and how much bulk it adds to the phone.

yea let us know about that b/c i'm currently using the body glove case and it leaves the screen open for anything to hit it lol. has all the protection in the world around sides of the phone but aint nothing protecting the screen
my only legit concern with it is whether or not it will still fit onto the charging dock with it in the protective shell.
I'm hoping that since it says the usb cable will still attach without problems, the little usb plug attached to the dock will work as well. We'll see. That'll be a buzz kill if it doesn't but oh well.
Does anyone have any more input? This seems to be the best case for the MT4G, but it'd be nice to have a little input or a review from someone who's already tried it first. I'm currently using the T-Mobile Leather Sleeve, but it'd be nice to not have to remove the phone from a case every time I want to use it.
I tried searching but this wasn't released to the public for purchase until this monday so I doubt many people have them yet.
that said, my friends that have them for iphone swear by them.

Gotcha. I'll just wait for your review then.
Installed. I screwed up the install of the screen protector. I guess I had a brain fart and tried to attach the layer that you're supposed to throw away so the side I was supposed to attach was covered in lint and dust and totally unusable.
So I had to re-attach the cheap generic walmart one back on there and now it looks like crap so I'm going to have to go by tmobile and get a real one this week.
Anyways, as far as the case goes, it's ok. The rubber is a bit more thin than what I was expecting but I think that the designer series case doesn't focus as much on the protection or something.
The case is a rubber sleeve with raised up sections for the buttons and little flaps that open for the ports and then a hard plastic piece that wraps around the entire sides of the phone but the top and bottom curved parts are only rubber.
Overall, yeah it's pretty good but I think that for what it is, it's overpriced a bit. $20 or $25 would be a much more reasonable price. I doubt this is doing much more protection than the $10 cases on amazon. Kinda makes me wish I'd gotten this one first to see how it works before the OB.
The OB for the MT3G is only $11 on amazon
Anyways, I wish I hadn't canceled my order on amazon for this.
http://www.amazon.com/Fishbone-Design-Protector-T-Mobile-Mytouch/dp/B004KAXK2Q/ref=pd_cp_cps_1
I think it would do just as good a job to be honest but I think the otterbox looks better. The one thing that I think the OB does what the others dont is that it seals up several possible route for water to get into the phone besides under the buttons on the front and the ear piece. The side buttons, usb port and headphone jack are all plugged.
Here's some pics of it.

Thanks for the write-up and pics! I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on, but for now, is the chrome bezel covered up by the OB or is it still exposed?
How much bulk does it add? It doesnt seem like it adds much.. hmm should I get it or stick with my TPU case which I love?? decisions decsions
a girl at our office has the TPU on her MT4G and I would say the OB is better but I don't think worth 4x the price.
Compared to the TPU, the OB covers the side buttons, usb port and headphone jack and then wraps a hard shell around the back/sides which essentially locks the gel sleeve onto the phone. It's pretty much impossible for the phone to escape without you removing the outer shell first (which is really secure)
I think that's what I like best about it. It all feels like everything is one solid cohesive unit rather than just a jelly sock wrapped around the phone.
It adds a very tiny amount of bulk but it feels very good in the hand. Solid and durable.. It doesn't feel cheap like the overpriced protective gel sleeves at the tmobile store felt. If I'm going to over pay, I at least want it to feel somewhat indicative of the price tag. I'm sure the price will go down sooner or later but honestly, even if it is a bit steep, it's a drop in the bucket compared to a replacement screen or my phone insurance's deductible.
TeeJay, yeah the chrome bezel around the camera is still visible.

Actually I was talking about the chrome that surrounds the entire display. It's probably the one thing about the phone's design that I don't like, so I'm hoping it's at least mostly covered.
Questions!!!!!!
Right now TPU Cases Have a couple of issues
1- power key hard to press
2- camera key hard to press
3- volume rocker hard to press
4- unless it is the tpu-s line it probably looks horrible despite i pay 2 bucks for it (jk lol)
@fastredponycar Can you enlight us by saying how hard it is to press those keys? even thou is suppose to be rubber, i just need to know thanks
key press is actually a lot easier now (especially the standby/power) I used to hit it by accident and turn the thing off and now with the rubber parts surrounding the buttons, you know it's there and you know if you've pressed it or not. The buttons press every time so it's not like sometimes it doesn't register you pushing the button or not.
Teejay, there's just a slight bit at the top above the ear piece that shows but on my phone, it's a dark colored chrome. not like the bright polished chrome around the camera.

Alright, cool. I don't mind the chrome around the camera, but if the chrome around the main display is covered, that'd be cool.
I know that OtterBox doesn't claim any water resistance abilities, but doesn't it seem that with so much of the phone covered, including all exposed areas like buttons and ports by the rubber grommets, that it would be resistant to wet hands and incidental splashes of water in the bathroom?
it would have to get in from seeping down between the cracks of the front buttons or through the ear piece or maybe the small pinhole on the bottom of the phone.
Just to let you guys know, I bought my Otterbox on eBay for $28 with free shipping (you have to make an offer), but the thing is you have to wait till the 3/22 till they ship it. Just a heads up for the people that are looking to save money.

Sweet, in for one and I gave you a thanks!
a $60 case on sale for $20 simply amazing it says quality all over it
I posted about this the other day. Honestly, I love it. It does exactly what I need it to do. The only problems are software. Let's say I'm watching a full screen YouTube video with it in the typing layout, the screen will do a 180 causing me to turn the device around. That's all software.
If you guys want, I'll toss pictures up later to show you the solid build of the case. The only problem I can foresee is the front cover's magnets aren't that strong and the front cover might start to feel flimsy/lose it's shape after a while of using it to stand the device up.
I love it though and wouldn't trade it for anything. The velcro is extremely strong and holds the device in place. I wish the fit was a bit tighter, but it's still a good fit. It's also very thin in comparison to a lot of cases out there. I recommend this to a lot of people.

I'm not saying it is incredibly loose. It's actually pretty tight. They just left a tiny bit of room on the sides so the case CAN move side to side, but only about .5 of an inch or so. I'll take pictures with my Droid X in a little bit. I promise you'd love this case if you got it.
Is there only one angle for this when in viewing position? I know some of the other cases have a total of 3 angles.
What ports are available when open/closed? Are you able to charge when closed? It's hard to tell from the pictures, but is there a screen cover over the screen? Or is it just naked when opened?

Ugh.. I'm really shooting this product in the foot. Let me get out my ruler and my camera. It's not .5. I was just guessing.

Is there only one angle for this when in viewing position? I know some of the other cases have a total of 3 angles.
What ports are available when open/closed? Are you able to charge when closed? It's hard to tell from the pictures, but is there a screen cover over the screen? Or is it just naked when opened?

I took pictures for you. There's only 2 viewing angles. The ports available when closed is just the 3.5 mm audio plug. With it open, all of them. You can change the volume when it's closed, too. There is absolutely no screen cover over the screen. Completely 100% naked.
When the pictures are uploaded, I'll link you to my Picasa album.
I'm going to edit this post shortly after I take some decent pictures. I promise you will love this product.
EDIT: Ok. They're uploading now. I DEFINITELY just guessed a number when I told you how loose it was. Wow. It's like less than 1/8th. You'll see in a second.
EDIT: Here is a link to my album that shows you all of the pictures I snapped:

Awesome job on the pictures, im really happy with this case, i dont see why you would need anything other, it does everything and you get access to everything when open
$20 well spent
Looks pretty good.
It looks identical to the KeviKev I bought for 45. (now on sale for 35) Maybe the cutouts on the back are slightly different.
for $20, I might just buy a backup.
I would have liked access to the charging port while it was closed though.
i ordered the kevikev carbon fiber case, 10% off plus another 10% off with coupon code (kevikevdottcom) at www.kevikev.com
This case is perfect for the xoom... fits snug and doesn't cover up any of the screen. The angle that the case goes into for viewing is perfect.
I was considering buying the cases that were well over $50 but for $20 I got everything I was looking for in a case and more!
Yes, It's a really nice case, and keeps Xoom from falling out!
Mine should be here in the next day or so. Thanks for the heads up on this.

pics were awesome and got me sold! Just ordered placed an order.

Super cheesy and flimsy looking case. IMHO.
I'm hoping it will fit in my Nook Color case with 3 position Landscape stand. I'm pretty sure I can modify it to fit becuz I love that damn case and it cost me $35
Thanks for sharing though.
The Crazy On Digital case below via Amazon works great and looks sharp. It is for the Playbook, but fits the Fire perfectly.

Things to watch for in cases
One really important thing to be mindful of when buying a case is how close the case is to the home key popup button.
I have a Speck case I like except for one super annoying problem: the bottom of the holder is right on the edge of the screen so it makes it impossible to press the home popup key. You have to bend down the holder to make room for your finger. Granted the holder part is pretty thick, part of its function is to act as padding between the case and the cover.
Oh, and also make sure you can put the Fire in the case upside down because at least one app I tried doesn't properly rotate the screen so I have to put the Fire in upside down when using the case as a stand. I think a reverse opening case would actually be best but I've yet to see a "manga style" opening case.
I bought the PU case from ebay (as mentioned by the OP). I figured at $9 shipped it would just be an experiment.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PU-Leather-...ccessories&hash=item45fde7f83e#ht_2692wt_1037
I have to say it's not too bad. It seems to fit well, and the stand seems to work OK in both positions. I only really wanted it to travel with on the plane, and it won't be a permanent case, but for the price it does it's job. It has a magnet catch to close it, which isn't very strong, but does the job. It is also quite a low form factor, so it doesn't bulk up the overall thickness of the Fire too much.
Frankly, I prefer the feel of the kindle outside of a case, and with it being rubberized and made of Gorilla glass, I'm not too worried about scratching/marking. I just wipe it down with a damp cloth every few days.

When you fold the cover back, does it lay flat? I've seen some where it doesn't, so it leaves a space of say .5" or so on the side with the flap. I hope this is making sense, I'm tired. I want to get a case, but I don't want it to have that space on the side. I wish I could find the picture of it again to make myself clear. They never show pictures of the cases with the cover all the way folded back
I'm not sure what you mean, so here are some pictures of it in both positions. Does this help? Sorry, they aren't particularly good quality!

Thanks for the pics. This is what I mean, I finally found a picture
See how on the side of the flap it doesn't actually sit flush, thus doubling the size that is held in that hand. An yes, I know thats for the touchpad, but just for reference.

Alright, at least it can lay flat, one more question haha, can it do the same at the fold closer to the fire also, if not, at least it can do it how you showed. Thanks for the pics, this will probably be what I go with now that I can finally see it from this angle, answering my question

Yeah, it can, but what that does is make the flap protrude maybe 3/4" out of the front. So there is no real optimal fully flat position that keeps to same form factor of the Kindle itself. Each position requires you to kind of mold it to sit there, but that is probably because it's new, and doesn't have a lot of give yet.
At the end of the day, it's $9 delivered, and for that money I believe it's a reasonably disposable purchase. I'd be pissed if I had paid $40-50 for a case and didn't like it! (although I suppose I could always take it back)

You make a good point. Really as long as it sits flat, I'll be satisfied with it. Thanks for taking the time.
So after getting my new S3 a couple weeks ago I decided I wanted a dock for my truck to be able use navigation, music, etc a little more conveniently….
I was really surprised to find out that Samsung has not made an S3 specific dock yet….
After doing some searching, I found a thread here that showed the Infuse 4G car dock worked (thanks ookba!), so I picked one up from ATT last week to play with.
While it does what I want, I couldn’t use it with my Aduro shell holster case as it does not come off easily. In addition, I couldn’t mount the dock where I wanted in my truck.
So I decided to make my own dock and mount; hopefully someone here can benefit from this. This won't win any beauty awards, but it works.
The materials I used are as follows:
1/8” black Kydex (McMaster-Carr PN 8650K112)
Cannibalized Infuse 4G dock

Pro-Fit Toyota specific VSM G3 mount – This was sort of a mistake; I didn’t look closely enough where the mount was intended to be installed into my Tundra. The mount was made to be installed on the passenger side of the radio which is way too far away for me. So I ended up using the parts, but as the kit was $50, I probably could’ve done it cheaper if I was paying attention.
1/8 x 1.5 x 6” aluminum strip (Home Depot)
In addition, So I did not melt my expensive S3, I needed to make a replacement that I could use to form the Kydex with, once I heated it up; For that I used the Incipio case that I had first bought, but didn’t really like.
I also got some polyester casting resin and activator from an art supply house to make the form.
(Black electrical tape placed over openings to keep resin from leaking out)
After about 24 hours I had a "new" GS3! This picture shows the new resin S3 in the Incipio case...
Out of the mold. Note that the textured side of the Kydex is what contacts the phone; it almost feels soft.
Next I needed to fit the USB portion of the Infuse dock onto my cradle; In order for my S3 to slide onto the USB port, I had to mill the back of my cradle until the phone slid onto the USB smoothly. I ended up taking off nearly 1/16” from the back.
Once that was done, I cut out the center portion of the Infuse dock connector so I could fill it with epoxy and make it a bit stronger. I also had to grind down the bottom a bit to make it flat.
The scary part was actually gluing the 2 pieces to together so the USB plug lined up with the phone; For this, I had to use the actual phone and not my resin mockup…… Fortunately I did not end up gluing my phone to the dock!
Not the prettiest, but fully functional!
I did polish up the edges so they were smooth with my Dremel.
Here is the dock with the Pro-Fit Lock Plate (PN BR202-LP) secured to the back. You can also see that I molded the top of the cradle over an Exacto knife handle as a retainer for the phone.
With phone
I may cut off the tab at the top, as the phone fits in nice and snug by itself, so I don’t think it is in any danger of falling out. We’ll see…
Next, I need a mount!
I hammered on a 6” strip of 1/8” aluminum to make my mount. You can see the Tundra Pro-fit mount below it… More on that later…
Here is the mount sitting on my dash
This was an experiment, but I decided to try using some Command wall strips to secure the mount to the dash.
Command strips installed, Pro-fit mount bolted onto the end.
Mount “secured “ to the dash….
This is the mount temporarily secured where I wanted it with the owners manual as ballast.
So how did it work? It worked pretty well actually, with just a couple issues: The mount vibrated around a bit too much while driving and was a little too close to the steering wheel; however the dock itself worked well. I will probably mod the mount to stiffen it up.
Very creative !

As far as using Command strips for adhesive.... lets say that was a waste of cash!
I parked in the sun for a couple hours and the mount dropped right off... i measured almost 180 degrees on my dash with my IR thermometer.
I'll just try some heavy duty double sided tape next.... I was hoping to get something that could be removed relatively easily.
Do you by any chance have a power drill I could borrow??? lol
Nice work! i would have ruined the case, cut off a finger or drilled through my phone if I attempted something like that!

I've used thos strips as well and they do not hold up in the heat. What I've found to work is using 3M outdoor mounting tape. It holds up to the hot Phoenix weather. Nice Tundra by the way :good:

If it holds up in Phoenix than it should work pretty well here in Syracuse... Where did you buy the 3M outdoor tape? I haven't had a chance to drop buy HD or Loews yet.
Thanks! I've been very happy with my Tundra so far. Tows and drives really well.
awesome! I am in the midst of trying something like this myself! KUDOS!!!

NP, glad to help.
UPDATE
Sooo, I did discover the downside of using Kydex.... I originally selected Kydex as my material due to its relatively low "heat forming" point...(~150)..
I am in Denver this week for work, so I brought my dock with me to use in my rental car; this afternoon I left work and when i put the phone in the dock I found one of the "wings" that holds the phone had opened up a bit.
It was 95 degrees out and I know from my measurements in my truck back home, that I was seeing 175 degrees (measured on the dash with IR)
Judging by how hot the steering wheel was, I'm guessing the interior heated up close enough to the forming temperature of Kydex that it softened up a bit..
This isn't a huge deal for me as I can just remove the dock from the mount when I'm not in the car and set it aside out of the sun.
I would like to get a material that will be more heat resistant though, which means that it will require more heat to form, which in turn means that my current resin mold won't cut it....
Looks like I will have to get some heat resistant silicon and make a mold that I can pour a liquid metal into to make a heat resistant form.
Stay tuned!
In response to previous request about how I secured the Infuse dock to my cradle; here is some additional details...
If you have the Infuse dock, this is the part that slides to insert the USB connector into the phone; I simply removed it from the dock it self. On the rear is a thin piece of plastic that just pulls out; under that you will see 4 small philips screws. Those are what holds this piece to the rest of the dock.
Once I had the screws out, I cut out the center portion so I could fill the cavity with epoxy. My original plan was to fill with epoxy to strengthen it, let harden and then secure it to my cradle with screws. I ended up just using the epoxy to secure it, so probably didn't need to fill it, but no big deal, either way would work.
THis is a close up of the back of my cradle (i think this picture was also in the original post) I took my dremel and with a sanding drum I carefully sanded out an area so the dock would fit correctly.
I spent quite a bit of time lining up the dock with my phone and sanding until it fit correctly
Here is the dock epoxied to the cradle
