[q] [language support] how to get android bangla font supported - HTC Wildfire S

Dear Everyone
As a Bangladeshi and Android user, many others like me facing the below problem since the day android comes out. People who wants to browse a website written in complex scripts such as uni-code support can never get the solution (properly). For that reason we are unable to read online newspaper those are in bangla.
We know we have some great dev, the can sort out this issue for us ? It must have a way to do so. Currently Opera giving a solutions - Using bitmap fonts for complex scripts. It works flawlessly also though become horrible when the article is big. Click here to see the whole procedure.
Then one of Bangladeshi guy named Mehedi did some tricks like below which didn't work -
Steps to be followed:
1. Get Solaimanlipi or Lohit fonts. (other unicode ones should do too)
2. Rename the font (one that’s chosen) to DroidSansFallback.ttf
3. Put the font into the SDCARD root.
4. Open terminal (oh! forgot to tell, you neet to be root)
5. Type the following and hit ENTER
su
6. Wait till $ sign turns into #
7. type the following and hit ENTER (mounting the system partition)
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
8. Then the following and hit ENTER
chmod 4755 /system/fonts/DroidSansFallback.ttf
9. in following line we will overwrite the existing font with the one from SDCARD
dd if=/sdcard/DroidSansFallback.ttf of=/system/fonts/DroidSansFallback.ttf
10. Once typed the above, hit ENTER
11. REBOOT immediately using the following:
reboot

This problem is still out there which need your kinds input. So far, Tibetan, Arabic, Hebrew,Hindi and few more languages were proved successful.
Or if i'm not updated and somebody have the solutions please share it with us.

[Attention] Google
Google should have built-in support in their android phone for this language. Bangla is currently stand at no 7 in the top natively language.
Recently a day has been selected for the International Mother Language by UNESCO,which has been commemorated in Bangladesh since 1952, when a number of students including the students of the University of Dhaka were killed by the Pakistani police in Dhaka during the Bengali Language Movement protests.
I have expecting built-in bangla in android very soon, apple already did the job.

This is a big problem almost everywhere........language problems can be best handled by Google if you can provide your query to them

I will bro...

De-brand your Orange / T-Mo etc. device via nandroid!

I posted a virgin, generic nandroid backup and instructions on how to restore it here:

other than the obvious benefits of doiing this will it also remove the t-mobile splashes?
Well, this version seems more stable than the stock Orange rom....
for example, when in the compose sms section, when typing someones name in...rather than doing "correction" style numbers, it actually has a drop-down list with names and numbers.
Seems faster, overall, and nice to have standard set of bookmarks!
Will report more in due course.

My Orange Hero does and has always done that.
Paul, any chance of a real dummies guide in how to do this please ? Why the need to download your archive and also the patched one ? Or am I missing something ?? Sorry all this hacking is very new - with Nokia you just change the product code to allow you to update to the latest firmware.
At the time of an HTC update for the Hero, I can guarantee Orange will take weeks and months and more likely never approve the update... and to have these bug fixes would be essential to ensuring continued please with my Hero.
All done don't no if its in my head but it now seem more responsive compared to the Orange flavour.
Thanks Paul
Hmm I got this nandroid working but I could root / access as superuser on my hero anymore, and re-rooting it doesn't work. Any idea?
edit - Sorry, it was my fault, forgot to enable USB debugging after the flash, silly me!.

I'm glad you mentioned it... I have noticed a difference too.. I have also noticed a longer battery life... I have disabled 3g and have removed BBC widget and am using my phone as normal now (not using it every 2 mins cos I love the phone!!!)

Hebrew on Desire?

Hi Guys,
Is there any chance to get Hebrew Fonts support on the deisre. I dont want the whole OS to be in Hebrew. Accessing Hebrew Websites, and reading heabrew mails/sms would be just perfect and more the anough.
Is it possible?
thx
Please keep me informed in case of success - I have the same interest
I promise the same in my turn
I only got Hebrew on my G1 by rooting it. Then you could upload modified fonts with the Hebrew characters included.
I guess it's the same here, get root and then upload fonts. Hopefully, rooting is on the way!
I don't know any other way of adding the Hebrew fonts.
I apologize......meant for general.
Moved to proper forum and re-opended for discussion.
In case you haven't heard, you can now root the Desire and apply Hebrew fonts:
tinyurl . com / desireroot
I've rooted but haven't tried the fonts yet.
Thanks Mikey for moving the thread back in right place.
Regarding the fonts.
I have also rooted my device and flashed an update with hebrew fonts. Works like a charm now, finally!
If someone needs further info, just let me know.

Hi
I have the r1-hebrew-desire-signed zip file, can you write what should be done to apply the fonts, after the root is done.
excellent news
I should get my Desire on the 12/5.
Will play with it for a while then root and apply the Hebrew fonts.
But, I have a question. Why on earth do we have to root the phone for that?
Why there isn't any official languages support?
If its done in order to reduce the ROM size they can give it in additional package
It looks like HTC/Google are loosing market here (although we fans will continue to buy them)
I heard that Android 2.2 will have this support but as I know HTC, we will get update after a long while (Hero gets its update only now after 1/2 a year or mor...)
Although im sure we will find a lots of modified ROMS here and on MODACO that will let us do what ever you want.

Hi,
where do you get the Hebrew fonts? can you post a link?
Thanks
Hebrew on Desire without root: Install the "Il News Droid" app from the market. As a side effect you get Hebrew fonts installed.
I'm almost certain I was able to view a site in Hebrew the other day on my Desire. Using just your standard desire with official 2.2 update.

anyone want our half support tell me
remember :
i mean by support that all letters connected now and change arabic font to good one
Pretty sure Arabic support is already built in to Android 2.x. Go to the Market and install "MoreLocale 2". Run it, and add a Custom Locale.
For the Label, use "Arabic" (or whatever you like). For the Language, press the "ISO639" button and scroll thru to Arabic. (Or just enter "ar"). For the Country, press the "ISO3166" button and scroll to find your country. Leave the Variant blank. Press Add. Done.
Also, this question has nothing to do specifically with FRX06 or even Touch Pro 2. It certainly has nothing to do with Android Development/Porting for the Rhodiums. I believe this thread should be moved to the Questions and Answers forum.

Well then, So the conclusion here, is that (Arabic enabled) option is the required goal. and I think that for twitter, Facebook and whats app applications, something should be handled in "Framework.jar" for Arabic language to appear appropriately, I dam not sure whether there should be any amendments in the library files or not.

[25 Dec][FAQ] Xperia Play for Dummies

Hi everybody,
I just get my Xperia Play but I don't really know where to start.
It's been 4 days that I'm reading threads to know how to get the best from my phone. Unfortunately, most interesting tips are dispersed here and there.
So, I will try to ask the good questions so that everything can be available in a single thread. It will be a newbies FAQ!
Let's go then!
1. I just bought my Android phone. What should I know first?
- Knowing the phone code names will help you searching for the good information. Every phone has his commercial name (Xperia Play), his model name (R800) and his "nickname" (Zeus).
- Check the Android and ROM version as it will be often asked when you look for something about your Android. To do this, on your Phone, go to Settings -> About the Phone
- Do you plan to subscribe to a DATA plan with your phone provider: if not, it's better to disable some features to avoid bad surprises.
- Some say that rebooting the device helps in many cases
- there are NO VIRUS with Android, antivirus tools are all useless
- Wireless, Bluetooth, GPS : if you don't use them it's better to disable them. You will spare battery and you won't see advertises in the free progs
2. What should I do first?
- If you still don't have it, you will have to create a Google account so that you can backup and manage your contacts, for example
- RTFM !
- If you don't plan to use a custom ROM (alternative software not develloped by the manufacturer), you'll have to see if a newer version of the official ROM is available. This can be done through the official tool PC Companion, available on the manufacture website. ( http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...s/subject/pccompanion/xperia-play?cc=ph&lc=en )
- Learn the lexicon : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253127
3. Should I hack my phone immediately? (Root, boot unlock, flash, unbrand, ...)
- You will have to if you want to : remove unwanted software installed by the provider, change the internal software with a custom one, ...
- Some applications will require to have more access to work: ex: MyMobiler needs Superuser access, available by rooting the phone
- Learn more about root and bootloader here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076720 (thanks Logseman)
4. Are these hack methods reversible?
- Yes (thanks Jordanooo)
5. Do they void warranty?
- As they are reversible, they shouldn't void the warranty
- For Sony-Ericsson, it's important to notice that they support custom development and helped the FreeXperia team. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1281349)
6. I found many ways to root my phone: which one is the best?
- DooMLoRD method is a popular one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 (don't forget to thank him if you use it)
- you can check this link too : http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-always-up+to+date-guide-to-rooting-any-android-phone
- for Xperia, there is the Xperia Easy Rooting Toolkit by DooMLorD : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320350
7. Once rooted, can I remove applications I don't want anymore?
- Yes, this is possible. These applications are called "Bloaters". You can use Titanium Backup as Jordanooo suggested. This seems to be the best one around. There is also Android Mate o SystemApk Manager too. They're all available on the market
8. Where can I find generic/stock ROMs?
- Some are available on this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1093
- for Xperia Play you can have a look at Logseman list of downloads http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18226603&postcount=2 (thank to him)
- there is also the Wotan website ( http://www.wotanserver.com/ ) for SE and Samsung but you have to register.
9. Where can I find good custom ROMs?
- Here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1093
- see 2nd point of previous question
10. OK but what is a custom ROM?
- Custom ROM are not official customized version of the Android software made by common developers (not by manufacturer). In general, they offer more functionality and sometimes pre-installed software. Or they get rid off default applications nobody needs, to save memory.
11. What is the best method to flash my phone?
- As Jordanoo said, it's better to use the method suggested by the author of the ROM. The procedure is usually explained in the related post.
12. Can I use Sony PC Companion to upgrade my phone after I hacked it?
- You will have to unhack your phone to do this. (Jordanoo)
13. What are the must-have applications?
- File browser: Astro File Manager
- Alternate market: AppBrain App Market
- Remote display&input : MyMobiler
- Web browser: Dolphin Browser HD
- Video player: QQPlayer or MX Video Player
- Mp3 player: PowerAmp
- Wifi tool: Wifi Analyzer
- Remote control: MyPhoneExplorer Client or AirDroid or File Expert
- Contacts management : Go Contacts
14. What is the best tool to manage Android contacts from the computer?
- There is an add-on for Thunderbird but I didn't tried it yet ( https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/google-contacts/ )
- It is very easy using MyPhoneExplorer as mentionned in the previous question
15. Are they offline navigation application available?
- Sygic seems to be the best now (available on the market). Maps are downloadable from home Wireless.
16. What are the must-have games?
- Angry Birds (of course)
- Bubble Blast 2
- Live Hold em Poker Pro
- Mame4Droid emulator (ALL working roms can be found here : http://sentinelgames.com/documents/mame.html or here : http://lostsite.altervista.org/wiz/?page_id=2368 )
- GenPlusDroid: a Genesis/Megadrive emulator
- SNESDroid: a Super Nintendo/Famicom emulator
- Xperia Play optimized ones :
-- ***** : Drag Racing, BLOOD & GLORY
-- **** : Diversion, GUN BROS MULTIPLAYER
-- *** : Guns'n'Glory WW2, Pocket Legends (3D MMO)
-- ** : Super Dynamite Fishing FREE, Greedy Spiders Free, ETERNITY WARRIORS, Guns'n'Glory FREE
-- * : Aporkalypse FREE, Crazy Snowboard, Princess Punt, Townsmen 6 FREE , Earth And Legend
17. I tried to install an application but my Xperia said that there's no more place on internal memore. And now?
Yes, unfortunately, Sony didn't provide Xperia phones with a large internal memory (+/- 380Mb). This is indeed not enough to enjoy all what you Xperia can offer. The tool App2SD can help you free some space but many apps will remain unmovable.
There are 2 methods to emulate a part of your SD card as the internal memory: the ADB method (ADB for dummies) and the Link2SD method (Link2SD Guide). The first one don't need your phone to be rooted, the second well.
I hope there's no mistake in what I wrote, as it's only my personal experience. I apologize to the gods of XDA for this. (and for the rest too)
Of course, if someone has something interesting to ask, you can do this here! ;-)
Thread will be fed every time I got a question without a good answer.
Hope you will help! And I thank you in advance.

There really should be an autoban feature when a 5th identical subject is posted.
Its almost like someone is making new accounts and asking the same questions over and over again to annoy us
Deleted original post as not being nearly as funny as I first though it was.
Popodom, you just need to take your time and learn about Android before you make too many changes. This forum has some good tips, but unless you're already a genius with programming, linux and Android, you're better off not asking anything simple. This is a very unfriendly forum, and it tends to bring the meaness out in people. The know-it-alls have little patience for us n00bs. However, they -are- extremely knowledgeable, so it just takes patience and a LOT of reading. Don't worry, we'll get there, someday.
Gosh.
To skip all the hassle u are getting I suggest:
1. Turn on the phone
2. Play with it.
3. Come to xda and read like the rest of us.
4. Start doing your "hacking" and other things when /you/ feel comfortable and no sooner.
5. Don't ask any more of these questions if u don't want to get flamed and end up with 3rd degree burnage.

People on this forum are very rude. If you don't want to answer the question don't post anything or look at the post. You can you can tell by the topic what the questions will be on this one. I came from a iPhone and had no idea about android. Had many questions but never asked because I would be put on blast. The iPhone forums were very helpful and I never saw rude and sarcastic replys to posts. They were always willing to help no matter what the question. Just thought I would throw that out there. And the searching on here sucks maybe the desktop version is better.

I'm sorry but I can't delete this thread myself.
Is there some Admin out thre who can do this for me ?
Thanks !
Flag the thread.
By the way, the search function sucks in both the desktop version and Tapatalk. VBulletin search functions tend to suck quite a bit in general.
Oh, and BTW, in any forum, not only this one, no one likes to do people's homework. See it from this point of view: someone who's never contributed anything to this forum (not because s/he's a bad person or whatever, simply because s/he's new) starts up with post which is basically "gimme gimme gimme". Do you think it's rude to tell someone you've never seen and who starts talking to you by saying "gimme gimme gimme" to get lost?
Hello brothers.
Excuse the ignorance. But is there any way to run the gamepad? or control games with this rom? I installed it correctly. I could not make it work in games.I'm new to XDA, I hope I can still contribute a lot to the forum. Whenever I join others in my tongue. And now I want to collaborate on international forum.
Well here we go ...
I installed the rom JB Paranoid in my xperia play. Works great, besides using a clean configuration, the level of battery lasts much. I used the Turbo Kernel, which also surprised me with such ease.
I am available to help those who have difficulties installing this rom on xperia play. But I have a problem. Jellybeam with the gamepad, or control simply does not work. Anyone have any way to make it work?

Galaxy W - changing ui language

Hi, I have a newbie question about android
Recently I've bought a new galaxy w. I've turned it on and figured out that it has a support of English and Malaysian language.
I'm a russian native speaker, so I would like to change a ui to russian language.
I mean not just being able to type sms in russian, but the whole ui (like application names, menues, and so on).
So, I would like to know how conceptually it can be done?
Is it just a matter of changing some locale related files or I need to install something?
Thanks a lot in advance

Hi, Thanks a lot for the answer and sorry for the late reply
I've installed this application, but it seems like it provides only partial solution.
I saw that some applications really were named in russian (like google maps and google play)
But it did nothing with menus and icons on the bottom of the screen (phone, contacts, and so on).
When I chose Settings -> Language I don't see russian language and I guess this is the problem. I understand that more locale application only changes the locale and its good enough for applications having internationalization support by themselves but it doesn't affect the whole UI language of the system.
The issue looks deeper than only installing the right locale.
Meanwhile I've read about different ROMs available. I'm still vague on details but can ROM installation resolve the problem? If so, what ROM should I install?
Some more details that can shed some light:
- I'm located in Israel and the phone is bought there
- Kernel version : 2.6.35.7-perf-I8150DXMLM3-CL1103265
[email protected] #3
-Baseband version
I8150DXLC1
- Android version 2.3.6
-PDA I8150 DXLM3 (to obtain this I used *#*#1234#*#*)
Disclaimer, I'm quite a technical guy (programmer with ~15 years experience) so stuff like rooting the phone and installing custom modes of os version doesn't scare me, I just only never dealt with android phones
Thanks a lot in advance
Hi,
After reading and learning a little bit, I've tried to root the device, but with no luck
I tried all 3 methods I've found
here
but no one didn't really work
I'm quite sure I did everything like it was explained.
In the first method it wrote me the the update.zip was installed successfully, but after the reboot the phone wasn't rooted.
I've paid attention that in logs (accessible through recovery console there are a lot of messages of type:
failed to open /sys/class/android_usb/android0/state - looks like its an invalid path.
So any help will be appreciated here
Thanks
OK. It looks like after a couple of hours I've got a root access to the phone.
Thought someone can be interested...
I've used the first method and it didn't work.
I've made factory reset (also available in recovery console) and then came across mounting option in menu.
So I've mounted everything I could there and then re-applied the update.zip. Rebooted the phone and now it seems to have a root access (I have a superuser application).
Now the next challenge will be installing the ROM with russian language native support (in android jargon "flashing" ) with Odin.
I've downloaded a firmware from sammobile.com. And planning to use this tutorial
And I believe I'll be happy with my russian language
Since my experience with this stuff now is impressive _one_ day, so
could someone point me whether i'm in the right direction at all?
Thanks
Install the latest firmware XXLM8, i think it support russian language via the tutorial how to install via odin, then u will need to use the first method to root the firmware again...thats all
