usb driver not recognized! - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

okay so this is the 3rd time i am posting this...im a fool and posted in the rong place, and instead of being transfered it was deleted... for what ever reason... anyways, hello, my name is joey, how are you today? well thats great, im not to bad accept for this....okay i decide i want the glaxay nexus...its kinda pricey for a tmobile version...so i deicide on sprint, cause it just came out gotta be the latest right? right, so i go on craigslist and find one... call a guy and tell em to meet me at a sprint store in my area, we run the esn with the rep, its good, i pay em 350 hes on his way, well im with tmobile so its time to set up a new account, which i do, then when it comes time to set up my phone...guess what....its reported lost or stolen...the rep appologizes feels my anger but at the same time his hands are tied...okay now what, well i have the option to flash the esn with anouther glaxy nexus on sprint thats clean or i can flash a boost phone or metro phone with similar capabilities, and use it on their newtworks...so i deicide thats what ill do, switch to a new carrier, i mean why not sprint doesnt have a dedicated 4g network like tmobile anyways, boost is on the sprint network anyways lol so why not? okay i find a guy a google, hdoes em all evos 3d evos galaxy s 2's i mean everything, i go buy a 100$ refil card and turns out he doesnt do everything... he cant figure out my phone remotely, and here in lies the problem, i connect my phone to computer..after a few mintues most of the time things are recognized and the phone is connected, then other times i have to download the latest usb driver up dates, okay fine, well on this phone according to the guy who attempted remote flash to enter diagnostic mode i must dial *#*#3424#*#* okay and it does, i switch my phone to cdma modem under both possible options, the phone now refreshes itself inthe usb port and now searchs for drivers related to INTF 1 INTF 2 and lastly INTF3 well 1 and 3 are found, infact # 1 is called via telecom usb modem and # 3 is called via telecom usb ets but # 2 is still INTF 2, again according to the gentleman that attempted to remotly flash my cell phone I his understandign is that INTF 2 is suposed to be usb composite deivce, i download multiple usb drivers from muslitple google searches and aswell from this guy, and all have failed, one random post i found on google said that i need a windows 7 64bit laptop running the ultimate version...i have only tried office and home premium, if anyone has this phone and has ultimate, and can type *#*#3424#*#* and see if something else pops up then please leme know or anyone that maybe has flashed this phone, leme be clear im not trying to flash a kernal or rom im trying to flash my meid to a differnt one, now in some states...most...this isnt legal so please dont break the law to help me, but in NY RI MA CT ME FL CA NV and a few other places this is totaly legal, and permitted, a guy in FL claims he has done it several times to this phone, and wants me to mail it to him...im skeptical...please please someone help me ive invested thus far, 350 phone, 100 deposite for sprint waitng on return, 100 on prepaid refil for prepaid credit card...waste, no cell phone for almost 3 weeks... priceless, so in retrospect someone needs to answer this for me, thank you for your time enjoy you day....

No one flashes the Galaxy Nexus to any other carrier. Why would you send your phone to someone who claims they can?
And you realize the T-Mobile version is $399 but you paid $350+100+100 for a Sprint one..?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

stopped half way through... wall of text ftl.
Sprint model can't be used on any GSM carrier, and has yet to be flashed to any of the Sprint MVNO's either.
Coulda just bought a used GSM model for $300-$350 (even $399 brand f-ing new) and been on your way, using on T-Mobile / AT&T for less than Sprint.

Yup, you screwed up somehow. You do realize there are 2 different versions of the phone? CDMA (sprint, Verizon) and GSM (everyone else).

Obvious
Lol where to begin... Okay so yes it is obvious that there are 2 types of Phones CDMA and gsm I know the difference, not sure where the thought of me trying to flash a CDMA phone to a gsm network came from but your out in left field on that, gsm uses a sim card no meid or hex number so the phone would only need unlocking for use else where I have a sprint nexus and I'm trying to flash to metro or boost both CDMA carriers this guy in Florida says he can and has done it but like I said I'm skeptical lastly idk why you would add 350 100 and 100 and say that's stupid, did I anticipate the guy walking out the stOre to report it stolen? No did I anticipate the recommended guy off google to no be able to flash it ? No , please use common sense over rushed ignorance also please do a craiglist search find me a slightly used nexus for tmobile for 350 I dare yaaa lol a 32 gb at that nope they are 400+ granted im in the hole for more then that but had no anticipation of any of these events taking place otherwise I'd have scored a new nexus for 350. Lastly I simply asked if its possible to flash which the only answer close to my question came from someone who somehow out of reading my story thinks I'm arogant enough to believe sprint can be used on any network which as I know well is not the case... All I want to know is, why am I seeing intf2 what does it mean this phone as well as most should be flash able it's a very simple task once the phone drivers read correctly, I just wish someone could give some real advice vs talking to me like I'm an idiot I'm hurting lol I got burned on a phone then on google and now xda the fail safe is bashing my post as if I just bought my first smart phone I flash Ron's and Kernals regularly I've flashed an Evo to boost but my little gnex driver can't be found ... Why

You cannot flash it to boost or virgin or any other network. Its just not been done.
You can find a GSM nexus for $350 no problem (just checked my local CL and found 3 under $350). They're $399 brand new...
I just find it absolutely hilarious that you'd buy the phone without first 100% knowing that you'd be able to flash it to another carrier... and at that, why would you waste your time and money and get locked to a BS carrier like Boost or Virgin? You can get prepaid AT&T or T-Mobile plans for the same price, but with an unlocked device and a better network. Just baffling.

Sprint Phone To Work With AT&T

Hello,
thankyou for taking the time out to read this.. i have a question, I have an htc FUZE (touch pro) flashed with energy rom leo and my girlfriend has the htc Tilt 2 (touch pro 2) flashed with energy rom leo. oops that totally besides the point.lol just wanted to brag a lil anyways my friend came across a touch pro 2 from a barber, he held on to it for a few days before he decided to call sprint and activate it.. so when he does the phone is reported lost or stolen and he cant do anything with it, or can he? im thinking if i can take it off his hands and unlock the SIM can i use it? its a sprint branded htc touch pro..or is it a paperweight now?
Thanks in advance.
Mike V
I think you can if you sim unlock it and also even then you still cant use 3g speeds but can use the edge
Man I hope theres a way. if so i know he'll sell it to me CHEAP anyone know what to try? or point me in the right direction? im looking at SIM unlockers? am i warm or cold?
If I am not mistaken the Sprint version of the touch pro does not have a sim card,( I may be wrong ) and if that is the case then no it cant be used on a sim card based network.
Was not gonna say it but.....Not the right section. This really doesnt have anything to do with rom development.
actually it does have a sim card i seen underne
HTML:
ath the battery compartment already and i see a white sim looking card in there. ill see the phone in a few hours ill take a pic n post it up. also sorry will a moderator please move this to the correct forum.
yes my sprint tp2 has a sim card. pay to get the sim unlocked and there you go.

I was aware that the Touch pro 2 had a sim slot, he has a Fuze\Touch pro
Ok I was wondering if I remembered right. Here is a convo on this same subject found with a simple search

you are doing an awesome job. i just had a question. it may sound stupid enough, but i am a noob. so there you go
i just got sprint touch pro. i use att carrier, is it possible to unlock touch pro to be used with att.
sprint is cdma, while att is gsm. can it be swapped? that is use sim card of att on sprint’s htc touch pro?
would appreciate if you could throw some light on this.
thanks

http://eliteeternity.com/elite-tuto...-sprint-touch-pro-to-mighty-rom/#comment-1743 Mike,
No. That is IMPOSSIBLE. There are GSM, and CDMA Phones. There are also hybrids with both GSM and CDMA. (the touch pro 2 will be hybrid)
The Sprint Touch Pro does NOT have a SIM card slot, and the GSM version does. Sorry Mike, but you’re screwed.
This is the very reason CDMA folks want an iPhone or something similar so bad. Because you can jailbreak an ipod (see fluffyphones.com if you want to) and use with AT&T or T-Mobile. But not Verizon or Sprint.
Sim Card Slot In CDMA Phones
The Sim Slot on your Sprint phone is for Contact use. The Sim Slots in CDMA Phones are for storing Contact Information Only.
Dammit i was hoping it would work, o well ill just have to wait and shell out the cash for the tilt 2. thankyou everyone.
I think the OP is saying that his friend found a TP2 (NOT a Touch Pro), and wants to unlock it. This thread here (started by Olipro) shows how to a security unlock and flash a patched radio onto the Sprint TP2 so it works on AT&T. Pocketnow also wrote an article and created a video concerning just that. However, the OP should not use these techniques if it is indeed a Touch Pro his friend found. Otherwise, it should work absolutely fine.
YAY i think were getting warm. My Friend NOT ME has a Sprint Touch Pro 2, that is reported stolen or lost. He didnt know that it was in that condition as his intentions were to use the phone. well he cant activate it, so he's offering it to me. but i have AT&T and im wondering if theres a way i can use it? even though its reported lost or stolen through sprint? THankyou
Am I the only one that think the phone shoud be taken to Sprint so they can return it the it rightful owner?
Come on, it just the right thing to do.
Maybe there's some BS on having contacted Sprint in the first place.
NAY.. cmon man if given the oppurtunity would u pass up a phone like this if it was offered to you for less than 100$$? i already have a HTC FUZE and my Girlfriend Has the Htc Tilt 2 so really its not a need its more of a want. And what he chooses to do with the phone is none of my business.. he's simply offering it to me becuase he bought it off a barber didnt ask no questions.. tried to reactivate it and thats when he ran into all the problems.. so im really his last resort to make sumthin back from his money.
i sim unlock verizon storm and used it on tmobile so the tp2 should work as well...sprint selling it as a worldwide phone so thats why theres a sim slot so if u travel outside the country u can buy a pay as u go sim card...s0 just unlock and use it on any gsm network

How would you feel if you lost your phone and come on this forum and see someone getting around the system to activate your lost...most likely stolen phone. (which it is at this point is stolen since you are planning on keeping it)
The technical idea of changing the radio is a cool idea for developers but if warez is banned on this forum then so should this thread on "how to steal a sprint phone and use on ATT".
This is a scumbag thread right here.
"How to re-up a stolen phone." WTF?
I agree... there is a large element of douchbagery associated with using someone's lost phone.

Sorry. I know I'm not Mr. XDA or anything, but this place is where a bunch of cool people figure out complicated things and share their knowledge with others purely out of goodwill, and you come here asking them to advise you on how to make a stolen phone work. You're a class act, pal.
wow keep bashing man if u must know my phones are through [email protected] so do me a favor and im asking nicely.. if you have nothing nice to say dont say nothing at all. i was simply asking for some technical support to see if it would be worth my time n money to invest in this phone. otherwise.. act your age not your shoe size k.
You're asking nicely, and I'm saying "no," nicely. What you're looking for will enable the larger stolen phone market, but you don't see that, do you? No, no, you just "want" to have a better phone at the cost of the poor sucker that it was stolen from.
So, yeah..... no.

[Q] Incred on Sprint

No, I'm not asking when/if the Incred is gonna hit Sprint.
Due to a falling out with Verizon, I'm now with Sprint, and would like to bring the $300 phone over to them (even if I would love to get my hands on an Evo). Now, considering I've never even considered taking an unlocked phone and dropping it onto another provider, I was hoping someone here in the forums may know whether or not it is possible to do so.
I mean, they're both CDMA and Sprint does use Verizon's towers...
It's not possible sadly. Not for any technical reasons, there are no issues there, but Sprint won't activate a phone's ESN number that's not in their system. The ESN contains the model number/vender/etc. Being that this phone is a VZW-exclusive, there really isn't a lot you can do... sorry =/.

HTC is known for releasing phones that are better than and similar to other carriers versions, so i'd try to hold out, HTC releases phones every other month or so too. You can still use the phone as a Wifi only device atleast so its not entirely useless.
also, from the sound of it DeeBG, the ESN seems to be the same as a VIN for a car, didn't know the ESN contained all that info, i thought it was just an id like a MAC I.D. on wireless devices.
As far as them not activating the ESN, a while back they were part of the Open Handset Alliance, as was Verizon, and T-Mobile was also in there, and as far as i've read, Verizon is the only carrier that left it.
An H-SPL* unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 with Windows Mobile from Verizon can be made to work on Sprint, its just that the 3G won't work (just to give an example)
*H-SPL is the equivelant of Root on Android, except on Windows Mobile OS

You're chances are about as good as Janet Reno winning a Miss America pageant. Sprint will not activate it as the MEID is not in their database nor would they even remotely entertain the idea of adding it as they can not support it if there are problems.
anything is possible but you are then on your own with no warranty or support from sprint. if you search around you can find how to do it but it is not easy and really not worth it unless you enjoy messing around with programming phones.
best bet is to ebay your INC and get an EVO on sprint. you'll probably come out ahead money wise anyway.
I say try activating it online. It wouldn't hurt to try. Can't speak for Sprint, but I've activated an old MotoQ from Sprint on Verizon's network within the last 6 months or so. So, I at least know Verizon does it. Or maybe they both carried the same phone at one point. But, trying doesn't hurt.
Edit: Comment back here when you figure it out.

[Q] Can I.....

Hi guys, my mother work at the airport of montreal and several days ago she find a HTC Evo 4G. She try to join the person impossible because there's a pattern to draw. She bring it back home since it was totaly impossible to call anyone and that no one call. That HTC is from spring and spring are in the USA at the beginning i tought that we could just replace the sim card, but I discover that this phone has no sim card on it. Now here is my question. Is there a way to pull out the sim card or is there a way to remove the lock that is set on it ?
Guys no answer with ''oh you should bring it back or call the company" look she found the phone no one call we try to join now that we have it we would like to use it.
Thank you.
Okay, I'll bite.
DISCLAIMER: I work for a vendor for Verizon tech, so I do know this stuff, but I am not speaking on behalf of Verizon Wireless in any way, all this knowledge is my own, for your personal benefit.
The EVO is a CDMA/Wimax phone. CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is a totally different technology than GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications). CDMA phones do NOT utilize SIM cards. The only phones that are CDMA that have a SIM card are Verizon's 4G LTE phones (and the sim card is for the 4G radio in an LTE phone). Make sense? CDMA = no sim card, ever, cannot work overseas (i.e. Verizon and Sprint). GSM = yes, these phones use SIM cards. AT&T and T-Mobile are both GSM, as are most networks outside the U.S.
Fun fact: CDMA is a more secure connection and cannot be "tapped into" or "hacked" as easily as GSM.
Edit: Yes, Verizon has phones that can use both Cdma/Gsm connections, but there are very few. I am not sure if Sprint has any, but the EVO is certainly not one of them.
Also no one could help you out for the fact that would be stealing. Also the person that lost the phone can have the location sent to their gmail if they know what to do. Otherwise it should remain in lost and found so when the person call to see if its there they can find it.

ummm......you should bring it back or call Sprint. Although I will say it sounds like you are surrounded by some lucky people. Mom found Evo and you posted a few months back girlfriend found a phone in cab that you couldn't unlock either.
Umm yeah, what you are asking is stealing, and is illegal. Either take the phone to a sprint store, or take the battery out, write down the esn, and call sprint at 888-211-4727 and tell them you found the phone, they will ship you a box to send it back to them.

Turn it in at a sprint store
Hey, don't listen to these guys. Stealing is perfectly okay. After all, there's no such thing as karma, right? Just solder a GSM radio into place where your CDMA radio goes and you'll be good to go!

A lot of people are saying its the best phone they've ever used.
It has vanilla android with a Motorola launcher I believe.
All bloatware is uninstallable.
Very surprising. good info, for sure. I will have to pick one up and mess with it. Hopefully they do not break like all of the droid franchise
yeah definitely just call sprint and have them walk you through it although the guy from verizon has a point it wont do you any good unless you are living in the US since the phone will never ever pick up any signal overseas
If your mom work in an airport she should of done the right thing and turned it in not take it home. Well I'm glad I got sprint family locator and where's my Droid app to find my phone !

How do you want me to take the phone to a sprint store i live in canada and this is a US store I mean do you really think that they will send somebody in canada to take back his phone come on.... Anyways I found a way to change the carrier and unlock it.
Thanks guys
call them and they will send you a return kit will cost you nothing to ship it back
by the sounds of it, you said his phone, you sure you dont know who's it is?

Can you flash verizon phones to sprint??

I have heard of people using a evo on verizon i been eyeing the droid razr so if possible i wanna flash it to sprint. I called a store they said no but they prolly just want me to spend money on a new phone. So is it possible?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
AFAIK, this is impossible because Sprint will not activate a phone from outside their network.
I believe the CDMA frequencies are incompatible, but don't quote me on that.
Are you sure the Evos are in Verizon? I've heard of them on Cricket and other smaller carriers that use the Sprint network, but not Verizon.
I do not believe this is possible due to Sprint being a jerk. You COULD buy the Droid Razr unlocked and plead with a Sprint rep, but I would say you have next to no chance of getting them to activate it for you. Sprint will only activate a phone that has an ESN number that is in their database, they COULD activate it, but that is against their TOS and no rep even has the power to do it for you, you would have to practically get Dan Hesse on the phone to do it
My advice would be to wait a little bit (unless your current phone is on the fritz and you need a new one now, and in that case, go with the Epic 4G Touch, I love mine!!) and see what is out there, the Galaxy Nexus MAY or MAY NOT come to Sprint, but I would expect at least 2 or 3 top of the line Android devices by the end of Q1 2012...... Ultimately the choice is up to you... Best of luck!!
It is being done you have to unlock the phone so the freg can be changed to work on a different carrier. You do not tell what type of phone u just give the ESN number after you hack the hardware info. You would be surprised how often this is being done. Most of your local cell phone providers have the software to make this happen and when i mean your local cell phone provider. I am talking about the ones that offer service cheap or have the phone in the store that you can buy. the mom and pops.
I have to "lol" at some of the replies. Sprint and Verizon use the same cdma frequencies, 800mhz/1900mhz. Why do you think Sprint phones can voice and data roam on VZW?
Anyway, what the OP wants to do is achievable via *wink* *wink* methods, and it's not easily done anyway but possible.
Google is your friend.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G
I thought there was a law against them not allowing this?
When I was with T Mobile (GSM) they were required by federal to give you the subsidy unlock code and could not deny the usage of any other GSM phone on their network so long as the IMEI wasn't blacklisted for being stolen/lost. I could call AT&T to unlock one of their phones to use on T Mobile - obviously data was a nogo because of the AWS band.
So there's nothing like that for CDMA carriers?
Like what newalker91, none Sprint ESN will not work. But any Verizon phone will work on Sprint. You will have to do the same thing as they are doing to the EVO's.
Look for a broken or older Android phone with a good ESN.
huh? Google it!
newalker91 said:
For one, the 3G frequencies on Sprint are locked out to phones not registered in the ESN database and the phone will NOT work on Sprint's network. Calling Sprint a jerk for this is ridiculous and shows how little research has been done by the complainant.
For two, this has nothing to do with the Epic 4G Touch, therefore this thread is being reported as spam/incorrect section.

If that's the case, how can we load certain PRL's and roam on Verizon's network using 3G? Or is roaming a different story? It would seem we're not exactly "lock out" due to the ESN not being registered, maybe mildly restricted?
There seems to be some major gaps in what you said but I could be wrong, care to elaborate?
As far as reporting this thread, that's a douchey move. The OP has a legitimate question, it just seems people have heard different *facts* about the topic so there's a few different answers. That's no reason to report the thread and try to have it deleted - obviously there's an information issue on this subject that needs to be resolved. Even more of a reason to keep this thread open.
CDMA phones are essentially unlocked. You can get your SPC/MSL, for my Vogue and Mogul, I called sprint ant they gave the MSL even though at the time I was under contract. Now I just use CDMAWS. Everyone knows Verizon's MSL code, 000000. With your msl you can change configurations to your hearts content, provided you have the software.
The problem is that Verizon and Sprint will not activate a meid/esn that is not in their system. Yes they are both protecting their interests by making sure you live up to your agreement but I also think they do not want to take the to time trouble shoot every stinking phone that some yahoo wants to put on their network. Keep in mind every phone they release has been tested and configured to work on their network, they don't some strange phone coming from a Korean/Chinese CDMA network with who knows what settings configured on their network. There are a ton of configuration options that other carriers can use. Thankfully Verizon and Sprint keep the configs on the simple side.
Getting a E4GT on Verizon/MetroPC/Virgin/Boost is a piece of cake. Its one of the easiest phones to do. Many HTC phone are harder to do but can be done. LGs look simple but the Optimus seems to require using LGNPST to unlock some entries before you can get changes to stick. I was using a Droid Incrdible on my Sero plan for 6 months before I changed phones. Going in to details on how is discouraged and I have been warned against doing so by a mod.

Yes, it's possible. When I worked at Sprint I had a customer come in with an Evo on Verizon (he later came back to Sprint). You take a Verizon smartphone and swap ESN's with the phone you want to put on. It's not illegal if you swap them, and it's not like anyone's going to know, because on their system, it'll show up as the other phone, not what you're actually using. It's not a straight-forward process but if you can follow directions it's not too hard.

So If I were to call sprint and Had a droid razr that I want to use and I'm currently using a palm pre I Just give them my pre esn and they will use that to activate it? How is this possible because doesn't each phone have a specific ESN that allows that specific phone to be activated?

It's not that simple. You have to use programs to swap the ESNs. As in take the ESN from the Pre and put it on the Droid Razr. And then you give them the Pre ESN (which is really the Droid Razr) and it'll work on Sprint. You'll still need to change some stuff like the APN/MMS settings, among other things, but out of the box, it should make calls/SMS texts.
A little bit of a downer...
Theres only one problem with that... Droid Razr uses a Sim card for network identification. I know its CDMA, but all LTE phones on Verizon require a sim card, also it has no ESN number. So, until Sprint gets LTE, then no Razr on Sprint, unless someone hacks the sim card to have an ESN number (which I have seen with the HTC ThunderBolt), but if Sprint does get LTE, then you have to change the IMEI number with a 4G LTE phone on Sprints Network, and even then, you still only get Sprint 3G, unless they plan to use the same bands as Verizon, but good luck trying to get it on Sprint!
ok here's the breakdown.. because 90% of the info in here isnt correct. few guys said some worthwhile stuff tho.. so everyone dont hate
the droid razr isnt getting on sprint... youre not editing the moto meid. not possible. there are some scripts out there that edit the moto meid on bootup but its buggy and does not work on all motos. unless youre super mobile hacker.. youre not touching this method.
other phones... samsungs/htc/lg... as gedster314 said... can all be easily edited. each individual phone may have its quirks but in general.. they all generally use the same methods to edit meid/3g profiles.
now... as for what Jayjaymac said above about it not being able to work without a sim card. generally this is correct.. when doing everything by the book. but you can remove the sim card and rewrite the serial built into the phone and rewrite it as the meid.. and then youre on cricket/metro/boost etc. now again... youre not editing the moto meid... but its because of how moto locks down their phones.. NOT because of the lte sim. the samsung charge has a weird chipset so no one has interfaced it with QPST yet.. so no meid change there either. the htc thunderbolt can easily be put on any cdma network.. that has a sim. any htc device wouldnt be a problem putting on other networks... vzw gnex would work as well.
tl;dr
the moto cant be done... but not for the reasons people specified in this thread. if u wanna edit meid's.. dont ever choose moto.
Yes, like auto said, the MEID was created as an ESN replacement. You cannot "clone" and MEID to another device to fool Sprint anymore. Old ESN devices could be done that way, but that is no longer the case with MEID

i didnt say that
you can certainly edit meid's on phones still. any htc device, 99% of samsung devices, 90% of lg devices... all editable. you can even force meid phones back to use esn-only if you must.
the issue in this thread is that the OP wanted to edit the motorola droid razr, but you are unable to edit it due to how motorola locks their phones down.
and to everyone else reading this thread.. no this thread will NOT be used for directions on how to do any of this. we're merely discussing whether something is technically possible or not.

[Q] Where do I even begin...

So my gf has a Galaxy SIII from sprint, w no sim card. I have an at&t contract with two lines. I called AT&T and they replaced the IMEI for my 2nd line, to the IMEI of her SIII. Well obviously it's not that easy bc the **** don't work lol. I don't even know where to start, and don't bother telling me to "read the forums" bc I did and it's all gibberish to me anyway. Long story short I don't have any sim cards, never did. Not for my two htc one mini's through AT&T nor her SIII. Her SIII is running 4.1.2, which if i read some of the other posts right, it means it's impossible to transfer her phone to AT&T? I guess for starters is it even possible to bring a 4.1.2 SIII onto AT&T service? AT&T already changed the IMEI to her SIII, for whatever that's worth....
And on a side note, the SIII is completely stock from the manufacturer, aside from having the most current updates (Firmware etc). And I would like to emphasize that I have no access to any kind of "sim" card, nor will I ever. If there is a way to connect a Sprint SIII to the AT&T network, the method absolutely can not involve sim cards, and must be able to be done on a completely updated S3.
The last time I ever messed with the internals of a phone was back when the LG Ally was first released, and I did a one touch root, so I could use Verizons data through a WiFi hotspot, and not have to pay for a hotspot data package. So other than that I have not one pinch of knowledge or experience in this, as I've never had the need for it until now. I can follow instructions, but every single thread I've found on this site is so mind numbingly vague, it may as well read "insurt teh usb, do teh magix stuff, unplugs teh usb, ta-da!" And I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just trying to put into perspective how absolutely lost i am.
I tried the *# code in the dialer, and nothing. (probably bc i have NO sim cards)
I called AT&T and had them change the IMEI on my second line to the Sprint SIII
I read countless novel length threads on here, all of them seemingly useless.
I went to the sprint store to have them unlock it, they refused, naturally.
There is not an AT&T retail location for MANY miles, not like they'd be helpful anyway I assume...
I'm just stuck, all these threads do not apply to me, but I'm sure there's a way... There has to be.
To be able to connect the phone to the AT&T network you have to have a SIM card, without SIM you will never get to connect to the AT&T network. Your best bet would be to check here or craigslist to see if someone might be willing to exchange phones. or to purchase or upgrade to a phone with a SIM card slot, no sim card slot no service with AT&T.
I'm not a dev but I can tell you this.
1. Please do not insult one of the best source for Android development because you refuse to read the stickies and tutorials.
2. I'm sorry but a CDMA only Sprint Galaxy S3 does not have the necessary hardware to use AT&T's network. Though you state there must be a way you are unfortunately wrong in this case.
3. Prepare to get flamed and possibly have this thread closed.
4. You should try a Sprint MVNO or other CDMA based phone company like Boost, Virgin Mobile, etc.
5. I feel sorry if by girlfriend's phone you mean you bought a hot phone off someone.

We're not here to flame, he has a legitimate question and simply needs an answer. Bit1 is right it's a CDMA phone and won't work with AT&T. It's very unfortunate but you won't get it to work. Your best bet now is to resell it as a CDMA phone and purchase the AT&T version.
Well, I guess that solves that, lol. Yeah I did some foot work around the city, talked to several retailers and a couple techs, learned a lot more a lot quicker. So yeah it basically comes down to the radio being in a completely different band/freq wtfe than AT&T uses. (The whole CDMA and the other deal). I mean the IMEI isn't locked, the phone isn't "hot". She's behind $250 on her sprint bill and now has a $300 paperweight, so I was trying to add the phone to my AT&T plan. Anywho, thanks for clearing this up. As far as trying to sell the thing, I saw a kiosk with a used S3 for $280? Is there even a market for S3's? They don't exactly seem like the "in" thing anymore if you catch my drift. My next question would be, if I sold the phone to someone who wanted to use it on the Sprint network, can they use it? More specifically I know they lock IMEI's if they're reported stolen/lost, but would they do it for not making a bill payment? (She hasn't used the thing/had service in over a month now...) My goal really is to figure out what to do with the thing. Best Buy offered $150 for an S3, but I don't know if the IMEI is good or not : / The screen is cracked so i was going to get a $15 one off EBay, fix it, and sell it. My concern is on selling the thing, should I make the $15 investment and chance not being able to sell the thing? I'm broke as all get out, so I'd rather have the 3 packs of cig's than a wasted investment lol.
Anybody need an SIII?
LMAO
