[Q] Xperia play wifi annoying ! - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm new here!
Hope this site gives a lot of insight into my android device
My Xperia play wifi does Not want to work at all. I have been using it since october last year and the wifi worked fine. But now if I turn it on, it doesnt scan for anything! No networks, routers, ANYTHING!
It also turns on a off automatically without me turning it off.
Please can someone help me
Thanks

Are you running any custom ROMs or kernels? Model of your phone? Give us a little more background info.

If you haven't flashed a custom kernel/rom it's probably an application you have installed (battery saver or something). This should be in the Q&A section, btw.

Everything on the phone is stock form. Kernels, ROMS all standard. The phone wifi can turn on but scans nothing and then switches off automatically no apps are installed to support the battery, wifi etc (sorry for not including that)
Build number: 4.0.2.A.0.69
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9-perf

Try reflashing your firmware using flash tool or seeing as its a stock rom try the repair my phone option in Sony PC Companion?

Hi guys, any other ways of assisting my problem

Have you tried checking the wifi somewhere else? maybe its your router. If worst comes to worst try resetting it.

When I got mmine the same thing happenned. App it had a prob with my wpa psk security setting. Changed router to wep and problem solved. Try it. Click thanks if it helps

Can rooting the phone repair the wifi problem?

Someone has told me that downgrading software can be done but I have to flash the phone. I was also told that the wifi problem can be a hardware problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Try to reflash stock firmware using Sony PC Companion first. It's official Sony software and you will not break rules of warranty.
I done that and sorted few problems.

[Q] Android 2.3.3 wifi compatability problems in custom roms

hi guys, go easy on me its my first post
love the website the guides have helped me to successfully downgrade, s-off and flash custom roms to my dhd
I searched for the answer to this question but couldnt find anything. Is there any plan for custom rom developers to fix the 2.3.3 rom wifi compatability problems with speedtouch modems, as this is the only reason i cant use 2.3.3 based roms? (a lot of people have this problem with the stock rom but it is also in leedroids new one, android rev. etc) Would like to ask this in the android dev section but i need 10 posts for that.
Thanks for the help you lot have already given me, and i love the video!
Steve
Hi, welcome and congrats on your first post.
What specifically is the problem with the wifi? Is it specific to a type of authorisation (WEP, WPA/2) issue or something else?
thanks
this is a link to a detailed description of this exact problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1063103.html
i really dont expect anyone to go through the hassle of reading this, so summarized it says that ever since the gingerbread 2.3.3 update the phone is capable of connecting to all modems, but cannot transfer data on certain ones (such as the speedtouch modems)
I found a good post on this in a german forum a couple of weeks ago but i cant find it now, (i'll keep looking) but it said the problem was that some modems transmit with n and some with b or something like that. and that the only answer was to wait (ages) for a stock rom update (2.3.4?) as 2.3.3 isn't compatible with these types of modems
i would have expected this had been solved in the custom roms though
this is a qoute from the link below
"It turns out the Be Box router which Be supplied, which is a THOMSON ST585v6, is not compatible but also other versions of THOMSON routers as well."
ptth://vvv.htcdesirehdforum.com/htc-desire-hd-troubleshooting/wifi-issue-with-gingerbread-update/ (change the ptth to http and vvv to www) i cant post outside links
Ok, just read through that thread. What model of Speedtouch router are you using?
One workaround is to use a static IP. Have you tried this? I can help you set this up if required.
HTC seem to blame this issue on Google, as an Android issue. Not sure about that as any ROM that uses Gingerbread would exhibit the same problem, which isn't the case.
modem is a Thompson Speedtouch ST585 v6
Thanks but i have already tried and the modem only works with dynamic IPs (tried to solve it with a static IP for ages with my dad but it didnt work xD)
This qoute from dioky on page 4 of the link below states (i'm pretty certain) the problem: (i clicked the thanks button for this answer)
"Hi there,
I have the same WiFi problems as all of you.
Furthermore I can confirm that changing ROM (ARHD or Leedroid) won't help, if you stay with Gingerbread versions, that is.
I found out that:
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) to SpeedTouch WiFi access point (b/g).
* Data won't flow (although connected fine) through D-Link DAP1360 .
* BUT: does flow (and connected fine off course) through Belkin G Plus MIMO access point (g)!
I have rechecked it by reflashing back to ARHD 3.7 returning to ARHD 5.1.7 and ARHD 5.1.4 and LeeDroiD 3.0.3.
Which in all, makes me conclude that there definitely is something on the software side concerning compatibility!
For now, I will return to ARHD 3.7 Android 2.2.1 until solution is found.
Regards,"

Does anybody know if the Rom devs.plan to solve this (or even know about this problem)?
any ideas peeps?? this is a major problem for me
You want to try giving a static IP another shot?
i'm pretty sure it wont work as i tried to solve the prob like this but whatever i did i couldnt get it to work. but i'll give it another shot. another idea would maybe be updating the modem drivers if there is such a thing?
What is your routers current firmware version? And is that a branded router?
i really have no idea. i'm a total noob with routers
can you tell me an easy way how i could find out?
Sure, are you using your PC to access the web at the minute?
If you install TeamViewer I could show you.
?????? What is that ?
Its a piece of software that will allow me to remotely control a computer.
I can confirm that I have this problem with 2.3.3 and my Thomson/SpeedTouch 585v6 (FW 6.1.4.3) too.
It seems to connect WiFi fine, even assigns an IP but nothing actually works.
Solution for Wifi problem 2.3.3
Hello!
I have the same problem on my DHD with 2.3.3
Before there is an permanent fix for this You could manually configure the IP adress in the phones Wifi and it works great.
You can not use the DHCP in the phone.

I should have mentioned that I actually have a HTC Desire (not HD). But the ROM is a 2.3.3. It actually assigns the IP via DHCP just fine.
I have already tried manually assigning the IP address (and other fields) but still no luck.
There are those who can connect with a manual IP and a few, even after assigning it manually, still can not connect.
i tried using a static IP but it doesnt work..tried for days now
sounds like i am one of the few it doesnt work for after assigning manually...
i am a total noob but i was wondering if it would be possible for a custom rom dev to take the wifi drivers from froyo and use them in a gingerbread based rom??
UPDATE
I called up my ISP requesting a newer firmware for the 585v6 router (although I know it is no longer supported). Anyway, without any hassle at all, they gave me the newer: TG585 v7 router with firmware 8.2.23.0 (pre-installed).
This connects without any problems to my 2.3.3 ROM (RCMix 2.0).

wifi broken, cant scan or connect to wifi

I purchased it with a bad esn off ebay just to play around with and use as an mp3 player. Wifi was working fine, i rooted it, still working fine... then I decide to do a factory reset to get ride of the previous users information. Now It cant scan or connect to any networks. What did I do wrong ? T_T
did a few more factory resets and rooted it again with this tutorial, wifi still doesnt work.
why do i break things?
kernel version:2.6.35.7
build number: gingerbread.el29
hardware ver: D710.10

a short answer would be its a kernel problem, same happened to me, you could try this
http://forums.acsyndicate.net/showt...samsung-galaxy-s2-no-wifi-after-rooting/page2
follow down to my name and I gave brief description on how to correct issue

What I would do is root using the method that is sticky in the DEVELOPMENT section. The DEV's handle is Sfth or something like that. If you are already rooted go ahead and find his thread for STOCK ROOTED EL29. You will have to do this through ODIN not through CWM.
Brianhot1, you saved the day for me. I too was having the same Wifi problem. Your link to replace the Kernel worked for me. I can't thank you enough.
I know im a few months late but wanted to share my problem and fix as there were only three forums about failure to scan wifi networks. I could connect if i knew the SSID to add, but could not scan for available networks. I deleted the file data/misc/wifi/bcm_supp.conf which probably would have worked had that been my problem. My problem was I revoked LOCATION privileges to settings in App Ops. Apparently settings needs location privilege to scan for wifi networks!

Same for me - no such (or other) WiFi issues at all.
Probably caused by a hardware defect?! Have you tried a hard-reset?
I have the same software and problem with wifi and mobile network too.
It has started after last software update.
My solution is:
settings->about->software updates->scheduled check unchecked
After that phone works as usual.
yes, i did hard reset (restore factory setting), but with no luck.
Exactly, after last update which comes with HD media link this issue started...
thank you bouth for replay i ll try uncheck this automatic sw update check. hope it ll work..
well..."settings->about->software updates->scheduled check unchecked" doenst work for me....!! :-////
I am having the exact same problem.
Occured after installing the new update.
A hard/factory reset did not help.
This evening I will try to connect to another WiFi network to see if it only happens at my home network.
I hope that HTC will release an update very soon that fixes this problem/bug.
Wrong section...Please keep all question/help related threads in the Q&A section. Thank You.

well...we all know that issue started after last update, but why only few people have this problem...its like only 1 of 100(or 1000?). It sounds strange to me if 99% are ok with their one v and 1% have this issue...:-//
I almost managed to solve my problem.
Here, at home, I have a normal laptop (this one) and a small netbook (for music). Both are on WiFi. Right now I have my normal laptop on WiFi + the phone on WiFi. As soon as I boot up the netbook and as soon as it connects to WiFi too my phone starts rebooting.
I also noticed that this problem did not occur on another WiFi network that I was connected to earlier. Basically it seems to interfere with my netbook. I assume they are on the same IP address. Therefore I will give them both unique fixed addresses and it is likely that the problem is solved with that.
Thank you for your observation, im testing it right now so i hope it will solve this problem once for all.
Edit: well...no luck... i fix ip for my phone and since then(3 minutes) i restart twice...it even worse at all ((
After a while mine started rebooting again as well.
Since I did not have this problem on another WiFi network I really think it is some sort of setting in my Router. Even applying MAC addresses as a filter in the router for each connecting device does not help.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge of routers is able to find a solutions.
For what it's worth, I'm on a Huawei hg655d. I was unable to find firmware updates or downloads anywhere.
its look like we are getting somewhere...im also using Huawei but model no. HG622u.
would be nice to know if all users are using this piece of junk too and it cause our problems...
ok your rooted right? do you have the android sdk installed? if so run this
adb logcat -d > logcat.txt
(it will save in platform-tools in the android folder)
also make sure android debugging is switched on in your phone..and after the reboot happens upload the logcat.txt here. we can have a look at whats causing the problem
Hello Lloir. My phone is not rooted. Everything is original. Have not rooted it and I am not planning on rooting it either.
Being that ovik88 also has a Huawei router I think that the router really is the problem here.

i just remembered i dont think you need to be rooted, just go into development tools and enable usb debugging and follow what i said above
yup im not rooted either.
ok ill give a try..give me a sec to another self "unwantad" reboot
edit:deleted
well i found adb and writ the line but it save just txt right now stat isn it? but if it restart its not includet in there right?
some logs
here i get 3 logs hope there will be something useful...
I was unable to do that - no idea how to do that. But perhaps ovik88's logs will prove to be useful!
So far I have not been able to figure out what the problem is. I figure I'll just don't go on WiFi and wait for a software update. My data plan is fine.
Still, I wonder what it is that my phone doesn't like about this WiFi network. It's secured with WPA2 and what-not.

[Q] Obtaining ip...

Hello!
I've been searching for a long time about this issue but I haven't found aan answer...
I have a rooted GN with original rom and recovery. Yesterday I wiped the phone and now I'm not able to connect to any wifi network.
The phone is always "obtaining ip...". And that's all.
I also have a Nexus S and one computer connected to my wifi and they are working fine.
I also tried to connect to another wifi and the result was the same..
Before yesterday I had no problem, even with the phone rooted.
My android version is 4.2.2.
I tried to reset my router (Netgear), tried all security options (open, wep, wap2, etc).
I have no mac filter... I think I already tried all the "logic" options but I always get the same
I start thinking the problem can be android 4.2but I don't know what is whatt I'm doing wrong.
Thank in advance for any help!
Best regards
Flash a factory build to your device to isolate it as software related.
I had a similar issue with a tplink router, now i have a asus and the issues are gone.

I downgraded to android 4.1 build factory and works. thanks
That's an odd problem.
You already downgraded, so there is no scope for trouble shooting.

Z5 Premium Wifi and Tethering not working

Hi all,
New poster to the forums - I tried searching but no identical issues or solutions were found so sorry if this has been solved multiple times before..
My Z5 E6653 WiFi is not working - I go and turn it on and it will say "Searching for Wi-Fi Networks" however it never stops this or finds networks - even when there are many networks around.
I tried factory resetting, also flashed to stock 7.1.1 as per https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/ftf-e66xx-patched-kernels-google-drive-t3688365 (steps 1-14).
Phone diagnostics say that wifi is working correctly. I tried repairing with sony pc companion tool however apparently my device is a "prototype" (bought off ebay) and repair is always cancelled by an error message.
With mobile tethering I can turn it on but the network is not found by any surrounding device..
At this stage I am leaning towards a possible hardware issue, as wifi was previously working at least a few weeks ago..
Would unlocking bootloader etc. and flashing a custom kernel help possibly?
Some further info:
Android Version 7.1.1
Kernel version: 3.10.84-perf-g99119bc
Build Number 32.4.A.1.54
Thanks

Hi, it seems that your wifi antenna is the problem, or antenna cable. But aniway it cant be fixed without opening your phone.

Thanks. My mobile data reception works so I assume the antenna is fine and it may just be wifi module / wifi antenna?
Thanks
