I live in Michigan, and the best spped I can ever get is about 8 mbps download. Am I doing anything wrong?
Also, going to Vegas on Wen. Can anyone tell me what speeds they were / are getting in Vegas????
I live in Michigan just outside of Detroit. I regularly get 15-21Mbps speeds download and about 3-4 upload.

I spend a lot of time in southfield for work. Right now I'm on stock unrooted, but prior to that I was on Blu Ray, using the radio that allows wifi calling.

Its based entirely on location. You arent dojng anything wrong
you MIGHT be able to get better speeds with different radios but at my house i get about 5-20 KB (you read that right) per second and no radio will ever fix that. Just t-mobile...

I have traveled multiple times between Chicago, NJ / Newark, and Boston. I regularly got 2 to 3 mbs using an HTC SENSATION. With the GS2, I rarely get below 4, have not yet gotten above 7mbs, and most often about 5 mbs. So, I'm about 2 x faster, or even a bit more, with the Gs2 than the sensation.
In all 3 of those areas, the tmo speeds vary a LOT during the day. The 7mbs? 1 am. the slow speeds? 7pm. Tmo seems to have a congestion problem, but still decent speeds, my parents home dls is 6mbs. Verizon galaxy nexus is most often above 12, and often above 20mbs in the same areas.
Good luck in vegas!
It can be due to network congestion or simply the market in which you live. Some markets, even though your phone will show "4G", might just simply may not be optimized for HSDPA

I dont know if it is just a coincidence that the iphone came out today but my 3g speeds have went to a mind numbing crawl. With full bars and using speedtest app, I have not hit over 60 kBs all day. Stopped at sprint store and they said network was overloaded and they couldn't even run normal tests on my phone to diagnose. I think I am having issues anyway since I can't seem to get over 175 kBs in the last two weeks before today and I have a tower 1/4 mile away. I have dreaded the iphone release on sprint since announced.....hope this is not what I can come to expect from here on out. I've been with sprint for 14 years and really don't want to have to change.

That's about how 3g is for me yesterday in Torrance, CA. Very poor performance. When calling Sprint to ask about possible network issues, they kept me on hold for a supervisor for >30min before I hung up. Sprint's network is starting to be a major concern for me.
Sent on the run.
Where i live I am very lucky to break 50k and that been going on for about a yr.
I was going to make a topic about this earlier. Yes sprint did increase the data throughput. As soon as i woke up i checked my speeds as they could not sell a 3g phone that cant even stream music. Sure enough speeds almost at 1mbps normally in my area 50kbps to 300kbps.
I am not a lawyer by any means but since the actual sprint website says:
Sprint Mobile Broadband devices operate at average download speed ranges from 400-700 Kbps with peak rates up to 2 Mbps, and at average upload speeds of 40-70 Kbps with peak rates up to 144 Kbps in Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev 0) coverage areas.
Sprint Mobile Broadband devices that are EVDO Rev A will operate at average download speed ranges from 450-800 Kbps with peak rates up to 3.1 Mbps, and at average upload speeds of 300-400 Kbps with peak rates up to 1.8 Mbps in Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev A) coverage areas.
https://www.sprint.com/business/products/products/evdoCoverage2.jsp
Do I have any recourse based on what they say I should get vs what I actually get? Maybe a breach of contract or something or violation of TOS......thems my only legal terms I learnt and can use, lol.
In all seriousness, it just doesn't seem right that I am told I would get one thing and I am locked in for 2 years with it but yet I get another. Kind of a bait and switch thing..........wait.......another legal jargon phrase that just came to me, haha.
Increase In Speed
For the past month I been doing a speed test every morning as soon as i get into work. Till today I have not gone over 0.5 Mbs download (Honolulu, Hawaii)
But today I ran the same test i do every day and was able to hit 1.56 Mbs!!!!
Did a 4G test and got 0.1 Mbs ...super crap speeds as always.
Ran some more speed test on 3G and was surprised to get all of them around
1 Mbs. Sprint must have upped their throughput for the iphone 4 crap.
Wonder how long it will stay like this. If my speeds drop again after the initial iPhone crap I'm going to be very pissed.

Starting?! Man, sprint's network has sucked big bawls for roughly the last 2 years. maybe even longer but iv only been with em for 3 years. I got 1 year left. Hopefullly ill be earning more by next year and jump ship to verizon and their vastly superior LTE network...even VZW's 3g network matches Sprints 4g in most areas of Los Angeles.
3g gets me 1.30mbps down and .50mbps up. Haven't been able to test 4g speeds, as I can't seem to get a 4g connection eventhough I'm smack dead in a 4g area.
I noticed I dramatic increase at my work. I couldn't believe it. Previously it was less than 300 kbps.

I don't trust the speedtest app anymore. I did a test and it showed that I was getting some horrendously slow speed. Shortly after, I got a notification that doubletwist had an update. Almost 7mb program, downloaded and installed in, no joke, about 20 seconds. Did a speedtest on Speakeasy's website and got a very different result
Speeds have improved dramatically, but I'm not sure why the app doesn't reflect that.

Speeds have been fine for me personally, this is all 3G at my home in eastern West Virginia.
I'm currently on Rogers Canada right now. I have the Gnex NON-LTE version. I've been doing speedtests on my device and I've constantly been getting around 250kB/s, usually less. There are a couple times where I reached 850kB/s but most of the time just 250 which is quite slow. I've tested this in open areas.
The baseband it came with is UGKL1. I've been downloading stuff and usually I get around 250kb/s or even slower.
I now switched to the newer radio UGLA4. I am getting about the same results. Once or twice I did speedtests and got 640kb/s.
My feeling is that its Rogers network that's constantly giving me poor download speeds. Does anyone else have faster speeds with non-LTE Gnex on rogers? Any solutions? I've looked around but to no avail.
I just tested mine (Rogers Network) and I was getting a consistent 1mb/s upload and download. I do however at the moment have a good quality hspa connection.

That's not the LTE version right? What baseband are you using and where are you located in canada? I'm in the Vancouver region.
I think I partially figured out the reason why I'm getting slow speeds. I'm currently using AOKP ROM (milestone 4). There's a power saver setting where if I'm idle for a certain amount time (ie 10mins) it turns my connection to 2G. Yes I set that up. Once I wake my device it turns 3G/HSDPA back on. However going into the secret menu (*#*#4636#*#*) I noticed that the preferred network type is set on "GSM/CDMA auto". This is likely the be the issue, if I want HSDPA it should be set on WCDMA. Now I've set that to WCDMA Preferred. Doing a speed test I'm getting speeds of 400-500kb/s. That's a drastic improvement. However upload remains to be the same at around 150kb/s. However keeping the power saving option it reverts back to the "GSM/CDMA auto" after idle time.
I don't think I have quite solved my issue as this device should be about to download/upload at faster speeds. I'm going to change back to my old baseband and see. Please let me know the details about your phone, thanks!
Edit: I see you're from PEI. Let me know your baseband still, thanks!
That doesn't sound like a radio problem, sounds more like a tower problem. Have you triend driving around ant testing your signals in different places? I usually get between 2,5 and 9mps in and around montreal. Where did you try? Were your four signal bars on with the H and the arrow?

Yes I have. I get about the same results. I have tried both open areas and inside buildings. I just reinstalled old radio and my speeds with WCDMA only enabled gets me about 300+kB/s.
Just to clarify my kB/s or kb/s is kilobytes for seconds (not bits).
I doubt we should be having tower problems in Vancouver though....
So I tried driving around more with the new baseband I got about 1000kB/s. Upload was still slow at around 200kB/s. Any reason why? I found some people believe that rogers caps the limit but still too low for me.
Could possibly be your carrier throttling the speed? For most users 250kbs is more than enough.
I have the gsm version and live in the UK. If I get 2.5mb download speeds over HSPA I consider it fast!

Yea it's been pretty much up and down for me. Most of the time I get around 500kbyte/s and around 230 indoor. Upload is just pure crap for me outside or in. I've been getting around 150-200kbyte/s, mostly 160ish. Sometimes I even get 80kB/s. This is a problem and I don't know if its the phone or just poor coverage. I'm leaning towards poor coverage as I did manage to get a fast 900kbyte/s download and 250kbyte/s upload.
To those moving to mobilicty, honestly the coverage with them is worse. I can't stand dropped calls. I have friends who are on both wind and mobilicity and they tell me about the dropped calls. I sometimes have to make important calls and dropped calling is a nono. They can deal with it but for me I can't.
I've been with Mobilicity for just over a year now and I have never once had a dropped call. Coverage is poor though I've just never been on a call with poor coverage I guess. Basically if you stay editing the gta minus oakville you will have no problems

I am a new Epic 4G Touch owner, have had my phone for about 4 hours now.
My Speed Tests results are terrible and the internet is not really usable. Getting about 21 kbps down and 312 ms up. No 4G in my area only 3G. (Sprint) I am in Detroit.
I was wondering if upgrading my radio would improve internet speeds? Or is there ANYTHING I can do to increase 3G performance?
My phone is not rooted YET.. I want to make sure the phone(s) are keepers before I go screwing around. (I have 3 of them)
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
I've read other complaints here from Detroit about the same issue. Apparently sprint service is bad there. Its a great phone and probably worth keeping if you use wifi a lot. Give it a few days before you decide.
Also what are you using for speed test? I get most accurate results here http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/
I think that's what I am using, its the SpeedTest app from the market.
I gave Sprint a call to ask if there was anything I could do and was told that there is an outage in my area that should be resolved tomorrow. I let them know that I will be returning the phones if this didn't improve.

This is just sprint, either your really lucky with 4g or good 3g or unlucky (like me) and have bad 3g and no 4g, hopefully this changes someday. Until then skip Sprint's proxy's and try different prl's and modems to get the best reception and signal strength.
Try new modems once you root. I used to get horrible speeds with ek02 but they improved with el26. There's no one modem that works best for everyone though... It varies from person to person. Anyways, with those speeds I'm assuming your problem is temporary because 21 kbps is nowhere near 3g

I'll chime in here since I'm in the Detroit area as well, Warren to be specific. I just tested my speed test and got 0.6Mbps down and 0.43Mbps up. All tested with speedtest.net app and 2:40am. During the day im mostly around 0.30Mbps down speed. Hey there. I just switched from tmobile to sprint after my contract ended. I switched from the tmobile gs2 to the e4gt. With the t989 I would get 10-23 mbs. With this phone I can barely hit 500kb. Apart from running the Verizon prl, you can't do much.

Funny and sad how these '' slow 3g threads'' pop up every couple weeks. I did the same thing.
To the OP, like someone said before gonna have to do a search on changing your prl. That's what I did and it helped. Speeds still sick but at least improved.
Or you can wait a year or so until Network Vision hits your area.
I know 10 mbs was 4G but even with my vibrant I would get the 3-7 mbs. And how does Verizon prl help?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I must be in a good area since my 3G speeds are typically T1 speed at home and work but there are times like right now I will totally lose signal at work. A Sprint store is about 4 blocks away so I would think that would be in my favor.
This is a good resource https://network.sprint.com/
I'm sad to say this but I think I'm switching. It is way to slow and the verizon prl has a risk of getting my contract terminated. I love this phone but I can't handle it.
The Vibrant had HSPA+ as well...true 3G GSM data is maxed out at 3 Mbps at perfect conditions, just like Rev. A

At home in Queens, NY I get wonderful 3G speeds regardless of the time of day (1 - 2.2 Mbps) but at work in Manhattan I get absolute crap (100 - 300 Kbps with 4 to 5 bars of signal !!!). To make it worse, while testing the download speed at work, I see the transfer taking pauses of several seconds... it simply hangs for a few seconds as if it's waiting for something to happen. It does this on both download and upload.
T989 to 1989 speeds. You really need to determine if sprint will work for you in the first 14 days. From any other network, sprints speeds are usually a downgrade.
Unfortunately, I can't even use 3g in many places its that slow. I'm holding on and hoping it improves.
In the Cleveland area I get decent speeds 700-1600kbps, but at work 30 minutes west I get great signal but 200 kbps speeds or less on 3g!. 2 hours west in the Toledo area I get less than 100 kbps on a very strong signal which is where it isn't even usable.
I need an air rave in my home to get signal in the basement, and although the air rave speeds are good since they piggy back off of my home internet, it doesn't make a big difference since i prefer wifi in my house anyway.

I'm not trolling just getting tired of sprints crapy speeds.
This evening I have made a conclusion: at 2 in the morning I have decent speeds. they're around 1.5 mb. I used to get this all the time. Anyways it seems that there are not many people using the network at 2 am. If I get dial up speeds during the day due to congestion won't I still have the same congestion issuer on this 4G lte, that I am probably not going to see for years anyways?

Network Vision isn't just about LTE. It's an entire overhaul of the whole network. That includes switching from overloaded T1 lines to either fiber or microwave-based back haul (depending on the tower's location). The new back haul will be much better at handling the data load, so overcrowded towers shouldn't be an issue anymore.
And for info on when you can expect your market's Network Vision upgrades, check out www.s4gru.com.
