I was in the skyrocket forums n i saw that different apn can increase n decrease they data speed. Now i know att is very different from t mobile but i was thinking is there a apn n radio/modem combo that would take our t989 data connections to another levels. asking for apns so we can put this to the test
apparently pressing "a" and "d" before and after the "n" is just such a tough task.
Changing the APN and trying different radios may not make a difference on your reception and even if you do find that perfect combo, which is highly unlikely, it does not ensure that it will work for others. Why? Because much of your reception is dictated by your geographical region and the coverage of your area from your service provider. In other words, what works for you will not work for others. Everyone lives in different geographical regions all across the nation. If you have crappy reception, why not call them to send you a booster instead. That will improve your signal and be a better solution in the long run.

I believe it's called a cellfi I have one and no they didn't ask me, I was very polite and explained my signal issues to the rep. Who then checked to see if I qualified credit wise to be issued a device/celfi. It arrived in about a day or two and has worked flawlessly ever since. Increased my signal strength from 0-1 bars to all within and around my house. They even waved the shipping fee for me. I believe usually there is a charge for shipping though.
By the way I used SwiftKey beta 3 to write this entire post and saved a lot of key presses hint hint. some tough fourm-mates here at xda.

I jut wanted to see if anyone could give me advice on having better signal. What exactly effects thesignl strength? I know its the prl and I believe I also read that the modem hassomething to do with it also. I've tried different modems I can probably say the best I've used was ec05 but I'm running eh17 now and I update my prl every couple of days. I be in my basment a lot ad I get a lot of call drops or don't receve calls at all and I get texts late or don't receive them at all either. Ifanyone knows anythin I can try that might fix these problems it would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Try updating your prl manually... there should be a guide in the devolpment section.. and the issue can be your basement.. I get great service in certain areas of my house but the basement usually only gets good service if I leave my phone alone and don't move it.. so it has a steady signal- that could be your issue too. Updating your prl manually isn't easy for beginners so what I would do is read the instructions very carefully

it may be because of my basement but I used to have 1-2 bars but I switch roms and try new modems and now I usually have 0-1 bar in the basment. And even when I am outside I still sometimes miss txts.
I read that thread once it waspretty confusing.. probably because I wasn't trying it. But the thing thatmade me not try it was the face that I have to choose the prl number that I want so I have no idea how to tell which one is best and even by reading what ppl say tey might be in a different place where their prl is better. So I'm really not sure about what to update the prl too and I honestly don't really know everything about prl. So I won't be messing with it until I really understand it.

1. Buy Roam control @market
2. Set it to roam only
Well the prl is the Preferred Roaming List so if your issue is when you have no signal, which other providers tower will you roam to, then the PRL matters. If your signal in your house is just terrible then it could be some new construction in the area messing with your signal. You could ask Sprint for an Airave if you complain that you have no service in your house and if you have enough credit for an additional line it will cost you the difference in taxes for another line per month. In Florida that was another $1.72 a month. Or as suggested try Roam Control.

Yes. Provided you have enough credit for another line. It is usually lent to you with the idea if you no longer need it you will return it. I have seen them try to charge those with not enough credit to qualify for an additional line. I qualified for 8 lines so had no problem getting one. Just have to pay the taxes on an additional line which depends on the state you are in.

Has anyone tried that little patch thing you place inside your battery compartment that supposedly boosts your signal in spotty areas? Thinking of ordering a few, I can switch carriers, replace my prl, but I cannot build another Carrier Tower to give my part of the city better reception, it's pretty decent in other areas of the same city, but HORRIBLE in my region. 50% time without signal next to a window, and 99% time without signal indoors.
I had been wondering if there was a way to bring 4g indoors here. I can get a signal if I put my phone in a south window, but as soon as I move 6 inches away from the window it drops.
Perhaps an antenna that I can mount outside and run a wire inside to an indoor antenna.?

Yeah, those things don't do jack.
The way they advertise them is a scam! They are for sure no antenna booster in any way.
What it does do at least for me is increase your signal some if you have some signal. If you are in a building and do not get any signal at all this device is not going to give you any either. If you do how ever get one bar in an area you might now get two.
I work in some areas were service is iffy outside and doesn't work at all inside. I would drop calls a lot on the outside. I bought 2 of the things "only paid $2 total" and put them in. I drop less calls on the outside but I STILL DO NOT GET SIGNAL INSIDE! which I didn't expect to.
So what I think they really do is expand the antenna size a little and make your signal a little more stable in areas it comes and goes.
Anyways I waste $2 on some dumb stuff so figured I would give them a try! Goodluck
The only way u can increase ur signal strength inside a building is, either have a tower no more than 3 miles away from ur location or have a micro-mini tower inside ur home or place of business. Those are the only ways.

well, what is - is, those boosters are a very low magneticj applicator. they honestly don't work. i've seen one used first hand, and have seen many reviews on how they don't work. they are just a gimick.
The products I linked are external antenna connected to amplifiers connected to internal antenna but those are for buildings they do have other types of amplifying boosters for mobile and houses. But as I said not exactly cheap but for the money you will get great performance almost like your own cell tower at your house.

For those with less than great reception try this!
Dial *18 from your sprint device.
That is the number for "Sprints Cell Tower Enhancement". It will lock on your present location and boost your signal by at least one bar. You will have to do this as you move about to different locations/towers but if you are stationary and having signal issues, it can help.
Please let me know your results. Wish you luck! :good:
**EDIT**
THIS RELIES ON DIALER CODES. THAT MEANS THIS WILL NOT WORK ON ANY CYANOGENMOD BUILD
IF YOU DON'T KNOW IF YOU HAVE DIALER CODES ENABLED TRY ##RTN# (##786#) IF YOU GET VIEW OR RESET YOUR GOOD TO GO. IF NOTHING HAPPENS THIS TOOL WILL NOT WORK

Don't really see how this just got launched and is part of the Sprint Network Vision as there are posts about it that are 2 years old. Supposedly it reconnects you to the nearest Sprint tower so if there are 2 towers within range it will only connect to the nearer one, did nothing for me. I'll keep trying...and wishing!

Hmm I guess the reason it got brought up again is it will start making a bigger footprint now than two years ago. With all IDEN towers nationwide to be converted to CDMA by June 2013 you'll get better coverage and bandwith when using this code due to extra towers.
"Network Vision: Sprint will rollout LTE nationwide, reduce dropped calls by 20-30%, improve 3G speeds 30-50%, remove IDEN network and introduce Sprint Connect on CDMA, increase capacity and introduce HD calling by 2014 nationwide!"
All in all if it helps it's worth it!

Uh, the Network Vision project will not add towers in any significant way. The current IDEN towers will be retired, and the 800 MHz band will be repurposed using essentially the same towers Sprint uses for 1900 MHz service. Perhaps once there is 800 MHz service in most areas, the *18 feature might do something novel (like force a shift to that band) but that is just speculation. Meanwhile, experts tell me it has been around for years and doesn't do much at all.

I'm running StrongSteve's stock modded rom. But there's only one Sprint tower in my town.
Is anyone having a data problem with their network? I'm in the Everett Washington area and I've been having a terrible time with data! I go from 4 bars to no bars a split second. When I do get bars none of the apps seem to work from lack of connectivity. I use to get up to 20mbps when I did a speed test now I barely get between 6-8mbps. I'm really thinking about changing carriers. Its getting pretty ridiculous! I pay for unlimited data without being able to use the service half the time.

It seemed to me that T-Mobile, even though they call it "unlimited" cut you back after so much usage. Sure you still get data but not full speeds whether yours is 4g or 3g. They cut the speeds down. It was like clockwork every month.
There was many things I didn't like about T-Mobile that being number two. Number one was lack of coverage, anytime I was out of town, I wouldn't have hardly ANY service.

Its funny actually, I just remembered there's a spot I've discovered in my home that I can get 7-10mbps pretty consistent, if I move out of it I can barely make 1mbps. I hadn't tried it for a while because I've been using WiFi when I'm home because of the horrible speeds, and I just went back to the exact spot and got 6-10mbps from 4 straight speedtests, then I moved the phone a few feet away and I got 1.02mbps lol

Try updating the modem first. Or downgrading it. Also your phone could have started to go bad. Does it happen everywhere
tmobile s3 running wicked. I still use a t9 text app so excuse the errors
I was actually running on UVDLJA then upgraded to the UVDMD5 package which had the bootloader, firmware and modem. The only thing I noticed was better battery life but only about an hour difference other than that it pretty much seems equal to UVDLJA. I noticed that there is a newer version of the package so in going to try flashing the new one and see if it will perhaps make any changes.

Try not to be too quick to bash on T-Mobile for poor speeds. They are refarming the AWS and PCS bands and rolling out LTE all over the place.
This is a nationwide project so it is reasonable to expect some issues.
Suggestions:
Call support to ask about any outages or upgrading in your area.
Try out the different modems and tweaks in my thread.
Give it a week. (Shouldnt take that long if they're upgrading, but just to be fair)
If you still see no improvement start writing/emailing/calling and posting on the T-Mobile support forums. If this many people are having problems and they get bombarded about it, it may force some action. Be persistent if it comes to this point.
I really do think that given time, everything will go back to normal, and maybe even better.
Also, for those of you who ALWAYS use their mobile data, even when wifi is available, just switch to wifi please! It saves your battery and if there is any network congestion everyone will benefit.
One last thing. Once the network in your area has been upgraded, you may find that the modem that was the best for you before is no longer. Retest, and update the map in my radio thread so everyone can benefit.

In light of LTE being unofficially turned on yesterday here in Denver, my 1700 band speeds cut in half. The fastest consistent speed I could get was about 6Mbps with the average being 3-4.
I locked my phone to 1900 WCDMA and guess what? Back to 11-12Mbps. Faster upload too, 2.3-2.5Mbps. My initial fears about moving HSPA to 1900 may have been completely wrong. That is probably why my phone prefers the 1900 band now and has for a few months.
Long story short, give it time, everything will stabilize when the network upgrades are complete.
Anyone that wants to experiment with speeds on the different bands, from the TouchWiz dialer (sorry this doesn't work on any ROM lacking TouchWiz), dial *#2263#, go to WCDMA band preference and change it to either 1700 or 1900. This will lock the phone to WCDMA only though so if you don't have a strong WCDMA signal in your area your calls can and will drop. If this is the case, just go back into the menu and set it to automatic. Generally the phone will continue to prefer whatever band it was locked on until you reboot your phone anyway but at least this way it can switch bands for call purposes.
Meant to post this here, but somehow put it in the wrong thread....
I think I may need to sleep at some point!!
Sorry for all the reading guys, but just a little more.
There have been several threads opened recently on this exact subject. Seek them out as you will find some other things to try. Some have worked for some people while not others, so ymmv.
This is a post from EtherealRemnant. You have to do this from the stock dialer, but give it a shot.
Start a big download and go to the dialer, input *#0011#. Take note of the band you are on (2 or 4) and which items have a 1 on them out of HSPA and HSDPA. If you are on band 2 and see a one next to either of those options, you can try forcing 1700 by using *#2263# and choosing it under WCDMA. This will cause you to lose service if you have poor 1700 coverage, particularly for voice calls but you can always set it back by going back to the main 2263 menu and hitting automatic.
If those don't work or you see zeroes have you gone into phone status to see if you have an IMEI? Because that will lock you to UMTS. Shortcut to find out - *#06#

I'd been trying to post that for a bit too!
Every time I'd post it, it would actually post in the thread I quoted you from. Turned out I had to take your name out of the quote box and it finally took!
Ahh well, I conceed you beat me to it.....this time!

This is from late last year, and I have had it posted in my baseband thread since.
Thought I'd post it here too for those who never make it to the 3rd post! It may help some people understand what T-Mobile is actually doing with their network upgrades.

Any of you experiencing this problem?

I too, live in Everett WA, but a tad closer to Mill Creek. My map shows I am 75 meters from the closest tower, and Tmo keeps telling me that a tech has checked the tower's operation and found it to be working fine... I don't think their tech is as thorough as I would be. I envision some lazy turd driving near by and says... "yep it's working, and leaves, parking somewhere and chalking up a few hours of naptime and writing up a worksheet making it look like it was a completed job. I have wrestled with TMo for quite a while with the same problem you have. I have a repeater installed in the house on the third floor, and it hardly helps, but any small gain coupled with others have actually made my phone, at least, able to make calls! I have tweaked using a lot of different things, and have found this most beneficial.
Using stock rooted 4.1.1 OS (root66)
Baseband UVDLJC
and the 1900 freq.
My sig still jumps all over the place (like yours) but at least now, I hardly ever have NO SIGNAL.....
Believe me, I have got on Tmo's case like something fierce..... They finally offered to even cancel any charges for my contract termination, but that was not my point for complaining! I just wanted to be able to use the phone, and it wasn't possible at that time. Now, at least, the phone works, I can walk 100 ft to the street, and get full bars, 4G, so I know there is coverage, but indoors, it's not that good. The funny part is that all the main roads have GREAT 4G Coverage, and in our community, indoor reception is not the greatest, to say the least.
Bottom line, you are not the only TMo client that is having problems and hopefully, the Doc's right!
Let's hope that the reception gets back to being as good as it was, or maybe even better!
Good Luck, and Aloha!
Has anybody ever used a signal booster? My apartment gets a really weak data signal, but if I walk outside into the parking lot I'm getting H+. I know at one time, T-mobile "gave" out signal boosters to customers living in a house. No love for apartments or townhouses. I've seen plenty boosters at Amazon, but just wanted to see if any of you have first hand knowledge. Thanks a lot!

Indoor Wilson's booster are the best. They are expensive but totally worth it. I work in the oilfields, we all have them in our living headquarters and work great.
I have something similar to this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GSM-DCS-9...ell_Phone_Signal_Boosters&hash=item41746bce11
It works really well on the 1st floor, weaker on the ground floor but still makes a difference between a dropped call and being able to talk. If you adda a splitter and a 2nd aerial for the ground floor then that would sort that out. I have had to reboot it about 4-5 times in the year or so that I have had it though. It seems to happen when too many phones are in the area, like family visiting etc.... So 10-15 mobiles in the house all on. Generally about 4-6 and no problems there.
Google "femtocell'. It might be what you're after.

Um is there no Wi-Fi? I mean even most boosters use the internet

Never seen a signal booster that needs internet for it to work.

Well I'm on Sprint so things may be different but yes I have a booster and to get data (3g/4g) boost it has to be connected to the internet

Signal boosters (repeaters) don't need Internet. Airaves do.

A microcell uses the internet to create a WiFi AP sized cell site. Similar in practical result to a repeater, but a repeater or amplifier just amplifies or repeats a signal from a normal cell tower. Generally a microcell will be better if you have an available Internet connection, but a repeater will be much more flexible.

I've got an Airave at my house to try to boost it. They're unfortunately hit and miss and it doesn't do so well in my area.
I've seen a video once, where a guy uses a can to strengthen the wi-fi signal. Haven't tried it myself, but I thought you should consider it since it's free.

I've heard about this too, essentially you make it a makeshift satellite dish for your router from what I understand
