Best rom for T989 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Im new here. I just saw a closed thread asking what teh best rom is for T989. Ive used a bunch and can say without a doubt the Juggernaut and Slick Mod 3.4 is best.
Dont even bother with the ICS roms cause they all have really bad problems.
When installing appps they would not work right . The camera wouldnt work right on some.
The audio would echo on some.
The screen would be ugly on some.
So.
Try out the latest Juggernaut and the Slick Mod 3.4

I run Juggs also but this is subject is pure opinion. For example, Juggernaut is not the best ROM if you want to try out S-voice, since that only works on ICS. I hear all sorts of great things about Darkside as well. That thread was probably locked because there is no real answer to this question.

Juggs doesn't work well for me. I've installed it a few times over the last few months. No workie. TDJ's roms OTOH are flawless.
That said, the reason these best ROM threads are always closed is because its subjective and personal opinion. Just like the op. Pure opinion.
In before the lock.

^-What they said and, this community is based around development. The only way developers can truly improve their "products" is if good people like us test it out for them and report back any issues. That is the point of all of this. If you are fortunate enough to dl a ROM and everything works beautifully from day one, GREAT! However, you should consider that the exception and not the rule.
Asking others to avoid newer ROM's or those that are still in development only serves to hurt the entire community by breaking the development cycle at it's core. Software development takes time and dedication to make things come out right and the testing/debug phase is arguably the most important. Enjoy your "functional" ROM's but keep in mind, they work as well as they do because of this phase.

best rom right now
Jedi mind trick ROM is the ****** lol go get it!!!

^ What he said...Currently running JMT v4 and liking it...a lot.

it's all a matter of personal opinion and preference. My first DD was darkside evolution 3v8. But once JB hit the scene I really haven't had a DD cause I'm enjoying helping the community in a whole to make better new roms for new experiences on our device. So in a nut shell, just dive in bro and enjoy the ride. It's well worth it!!!!
But then again, that's just my opinion as I stated from jump.
SGH_T989 (Hercules)
TWRP 2.2.0
AOKP JB 8-14
TDJ's Venom 7.2 (AOKP)
UVLE1 Mod Radio

Darkside Evolution Venom for me - it allows for wifi calling as well.

hahaaaaaa we everywhere shutting it downnnnnnnnnnnnnn :good:

Yea Jedi Mind Trick is definitely one of the best ROMs. It's super fast and looks great.

Jedi-mind trick!
it does not have all additional languages. I'd like to see Chinese language to this rom(it is in the list and can selected, but it isn't fully translated).

Ya know...best rom is in the eye of the beholder. I've used almost all of them and think that they all have their ups and downs. In reality that's something for you to decide for yourself. Its kind of like pepsi and coke. I like pepsi and you may disagree and like coke.
Have fun with it, shouldn't be about social pressures to have what everyone else likes. Play around and decide what did YOUR style.
K...stepping off the soap box.
 cheers

Jedi mins trick is one of the bet ICS ROMs. But I recently switched to AOKP JB ROM and it is really cool. It is butter smooth and has Google now completely working. I have been using this ROM for 2 days and so far no issues !

I'm using Jedi v.7 and I LOVE it. I was on Juggs for the longest time because I didn't feel the ICS roms were ready for prime time, but Jedi changed all that for me. It's butter smooth and Fast. Battery life isn't the best, but with such a responsive rom, I can sacrifice some batt life for performance.

[Q] Which is the best ROM to install? why?

I just got my s2x and looked at the rom section and they all seem good but cant tell which one is the best.
Looked at beastmode, bomba and juggar. Which one do you guys think is the best?
Only one way to find is try them all out for yourself. Me personally, I use juggernaut and love it. But that's just me haha. It won't hurt try em out.

I've been trying them all for the past week. I think Bombaridier V.2.0 is the one to keep: very fast and has amazing data speeds. Still trying out the battery life.
I doesn't have Google Talk Video cooked in though.
Ive been using stock (bought the phone last thursday) and its been amazing. Especially after disabling TW and most of the tmobile bs, this phone has been flying.
And my battery life has been phenomenal. unplugged yesterday, at like 6:00am when i got up for work, and went on all day until 11pm at night and still had 15% left.
That sounds like mine! I love the battery life on this thing
Completely stock - not rooted yet - 1d15h battery life every day, and I charge at 10%. Moderate use through the day.
I switch ROMs daily, I still haven't found my daily driver. I have been most happy with Bombaridier because of the speeds. I'm back to Juggernaut now to test out the 1.6 release. Definitely invest in something like Titanium backup if you're going to be switching ROMs a lot, it'll save you a ton of headaches.
Try Hyperdroid with one of the sergions.Batterylife rocks!
Im using pongsters transparent sergion atm.
Uplugged the phone this morning at 7:00am receiving exchange email via push the whole day.
Listening to music for an hour.
Some calls, whatsapp, facebook etc and now at 00:30 at 58%
Moved arround allot too like cm7,darky rom, villain but this one seems to be stable and battery life is good.

Honestly all the roms we have are all good. It comes down to personal preferences.
I like how BeastMod is themed so that's what I rock.

Glad I saw this thread. I'm new to messing around with Android, but I'm always eager to read and learn. Right now, I'm using a stock debloated ROM and just playing with themes. The stock ROM had been perfectly suitable for me and I'm not left wanting...but I do get curious about the other ROMs.
I understand that its a matter of personal preference and the only way to know which is "best"for a person is to try them out.
However, could you educate a beginner on what sort of practical differences to look for in each ROM? That is to say, if one of you experienced members were to flash a new ROM, what things do you pay particular attention to?
I've always found that it helps in the learning process to know what you're supposed to be learning, so I'd like to have an organized mind as I explore.

There are lots of things to look for such as..
Battery, smoothness, simplicity, mods, tweaks, themes, and I'm sure I'm missing some more.
For the most part Juggernaut has all the above along with BeastMod.
But again ALL the roms we have are GOOD. All the devs we have are amazing at what they do and my best tip for you is to try them all.
Stay at least 3 days with each one and from there you'll be able to decide which one fits you more.
I hope this helps.

heres how it is, ive only tried beastmod and juggernaut, so far beastmod was good, but once i tried juggernaut i was sold, its snappier, specially with the new bullet kernel, its speedy!
Beast Mod consistently holds me down no bugs reboots a lot nicer on the eyes without being excessive... I'm downloading 2.5 to give it a full shot
---------- Post added at 12:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:17 PM ----------
But I agree the best way to really know what you like is try em all and use it as you would normally some people love speed but don't care about battery and some do etc;
Like everyone says, kindof a preference thing....
In my opinion, juggernaut is the best rom atm, it has the most dev support and has the most advanced options right now.
I'm rocking the following and am quite happy:
ROM: juggernaut 2.6
Kernel: bullet 1.8
Theme: ICS theme (without installing system apps, just want blue taskbar and themes and not the somewhat crappy ICS launcher)
Launcher: LauncherPro with Custom made ICS buttons. (see my post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19247803#post19247803)
That said, bombaridier is smooth and clean, beastmod is unique and has an enthusiastic following.

Different processors.
This is my first android phone and i jumped in head first and rooted it the second day i had it and have since tried all versions of every rom so far. personally i think juggs has tons of potential but atm they are ironing out the bugs, good for customizing but dont post about a bug without a log of the error. bomba is stable and fast and lacks bugs, best daily driver at the moment. beast just feels like a kang of jugg. kernels to go with are all good right now. seems like jugg (or beast) works best with their accompanying rom, jugs. and bomba rocks with synergy, gonna try it with bullet today.

[Q] Sorry that I gotta ask but...

... which is the most stable ROM out there for this phone. This is my first time on the SGSII forum. My wife and I own Vibrants at the moment fully rooted running 2.2 Bionix 1.3.1 with the Bali 1.8.8 kernel (for those who might know that setup) and yes it is a old ROM but its straight from the source so it is 99% percent stable (Battery & GPS). We are going to upgrade to SGSIIs very soon and I don't want stock on either phone. YES I apologize for not taking my time to do my homework but I would like to install a KNOWN stable ROM right off the bat on my wife's phone cuz I don't want to hear her complaining that this **** don't work or this other **** is buggy...you guys get my point? I'm gonna experiment with mine but hers I just wanna flash one ROM that is gonna be good from the get-go so she could start using it right away.
...again I'm sorry for the "best ROM out there" question (which I myself hate) and THX ahead.
Never had any issues with juggernaut, no fcs or anything. Lots of nice themes for it too. As for kernels, the new darkside has been the best for me.

A similar thread is also going on which ROM, but you qualified it by mentioning your Vibrant setup. My wife also upgraded from a Vibrant running the same Bionix/Bali combo so I know what you mean by stability as well as performance. Luckily you have several choices as noted above but I've settled on Dewizzed as my main choice: based on stock, extremely stable, very fast data speeds, GPS locks in an amazingly short time, great battery life... I also know that the team are working on some exciting things for the next version and am looking forward to seeing what is offered up.

Not to sound like a prick or anything, but you have to consider that you are posting in a very opinionated forum, with a very broad question. That being said, I also believe everyone is entitled to said opinion SO....
I have to go with Calkulins Rom. I have yet to find a more stable Rom, and I check frequently. Couple that with Overstews ICS theme and you have a match made in Android heaven. Hope this helps.
Epic-ly tapped from my Galaxy S II
Maddoggin's rom is great and very stable. There are a few themes out for it, two of which are linked in the OP for the thread.

However, if you want an overwhelming support for themes then mijjah has you covered with his rom and the themes he ports and improves upon. It's also stable for me though others report issues.

Blazer ROM. No doubt about it.
Have used it since v1.2, and current v3.7 has not disappointed me at all.
Caulks, 80% of roms are based on his.
I am currently on Blazer Rom, HAven't tried any others but love the ics look
Calkulin's rom is the base for so many other roms. Calkulins all the way
Seems like this is a pretty common question in the Q & A. And almost always, Calk's is at the top of the list.
If you prefer Odex and don't mind a very blue theme then you certainly want to try StrongSteve's ROM.
I 'm loving the Blazer ROM (ver. 3.7) so far. Stable snappy, great battery life and a cool ICS theme.

I haven't flashed every single rom out there. I was using stock + rooted only for the first few months.. and definitely nothing wrong with that if that's your thing. Just get rid of the bloatware and you should get decent battery life.
Having said that, I'm on BlazerROM 3.7 and my wife is on Calks 2.8.1 ROM. Just flashed both our phones last weekend. We're both happy with them so far and have no problems with GPS issues, hot reboots, freezes, ect. We seem to get about the same battery life too.. maybe my wife's is a little better since she's under volted a bit.
I would say nandroid and flash away until you find something you like. Its not hard to do and flashing doesn't take too long. You'll probably take longer downloading the ROM's themselves.. lol. But for themes, Blend ROM seems to have a lot of support
Can't really say better/best as I've only run 1 rom since about 3 days after I got this phone... calk's. I've since added steadyhawkin's gunslinger kernel, and overstew's ics theme, and have nothing but good to say about any of it. Fast, stable, great battery life, and I love that he keeps the rom pretty close to stock so you can dress it up the way _you_ want (which is helped by the fact it seems most themes/mods support it) or stay with a pretty stock/tw look if that's your thing.
Again, nothing bad to say about other roms, or even to say that this rom is better -- it's just the 1st I tried, and it's done everything I want so I've never felt the need to even try anything else (as of yet -- looking like that *might* be getting close to changing but that's a WHOLE other story ).
I'm using ICS Passion on my vibrant, nice stock 4.0 feel.

I'm going to have to go with Blazer 3.7. I found myself on Calkulin's for a while but I got better battery life with Blazer 3.7. I really like Phamtom's theme work with 3.7. Everything looks nice, runs smooth, and I like the toggle set up more than any other ROM or mod. I haven't quit trying different ROMs, mods, and themes, I just always seem to end up on Stock Blazer 3.7 because it's so "perfect" in my opinion.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Best Battery award I would have to give it to Calkulin's 2.8.1 - The Con is that I was having problems with deep freezes every couple days where I would have to reboot my phone and I would notice a little lag when opening the app drawer for the first few seconds. The freezing was most likely due to the undervolt and Haven't tried the other optional undervolts he has posted yet to remedy the Issue.
Best visuals I would have to give it to StrongSteve's ROM. That blue is straight eye candy!!! The con is that it was giving me worse battery life than I was use to on Calkulin's, but nothing really to complain about honestly. And I like how the keyboards was the swype with the dragon go option by default.
Best Rom so far award goes to Phantom Blazer in my book. This Rom ran the smoothest out of the three for me and battery life is very closely compared to Calkulin's 2.8.1 so far and looks very nice. My only request is that his swype keyboard had dragon go.
I'm a fan of UnNamed Rom.
Stable, fast, and long battery life.

Rom most note 2 users are using

Hey all,
Just wondering what rom people on this forum are using on their note 2.
Also, if the sound recording is an issue on official cm nightlies, does that mean all roms based on it like the unofficial, or vanilla rootbox, liquidsmooth have the same problem? Because they are based on also?
Thanks for your time
maybe it's time we run a poll for all the roms out there?

check the development section to see what roms people are using
and, yes, any problems that cm 10.1 has, any rom based on it most likely will have..
It's not easy to do an actual poll on here. At best you'll get pages and pages of people listing roms. No value add, no data collection or analysis. So yes, the easiest way to see what people are using is look at the roms available. And lots of people flash roms like some of us shower; what they use today may not be what they use tomorrow.

I've been testing out a bunch of ROMs that go by just to see what works and what is needed to be fix (let's face it... that's what this site is for... It's a developer's site that lets us alpha/beta test out their skills and report what needs to be fixed). Each ROM has their unique features and such.
It's not a popularity contest, so no, I don't think there should be a poll since it will not matter. What does matter is if you find yourself a ROM you like, support it, support the developer by saying thanks and if you can, donate. Don't be afraid to try other ROMs as well. I've said this before and I will say it again... You have nothing to lose but a bit of time depending on how much you make a ROM your home. Find which one works for you.
Nandroid backup, wipe, flash, test. Like? Say so. Something broken that hasn't been reported yet? Say so.
Try not to treat this site as a free custom workshop for your phone. Treat it as a test site and be happy the devs take the time to do these things for us users/testers.

So I have tried most all of the top 6 ROMs. Clean Rom is very stable, Jelly Thunder has nice eye candy, but hands down the best ROM for me is SkyNote 7, aka Sky Wallet. Love the light saber sound for s pen. I worked with Seanz testing wallet, so I KNOW it works. I did put the latest Perseus kernel, Awesome beats, and Apex launcher on it to customize. IMO, this ROM is the pinnacle of Note 2 development!:silly:

Cleanrom is my choice.
I've been on CleanROM for a while, but right now am trying Jedi XPX.
CleanROM is a very safe ROM to use. It's as close to stock as you can get. Hard to quantify exactly how much better performance and battery life are, but my impression is that it is better than stock. Nothing that blew my mind, but when the Note 2 is such a beast from the start, it's hard to say that it is, or isn't a vast improvement. This ROM also pairs well with a couple of custom kernels (Perseus and Saber are the ones I've tried). One awesome thing about that the developer of CleanROM does is package it with Aroma installer, which allows you to pick and choose what you want in the ROM.
I've only had Jedi XPX installed for a couple of hours and so far, it's really good. Seems to be smoother, but I can't really say with absolute certainty. You'll love this ROM if you're a Star Wars fan as the developer integrated some Star Wars soundbites with some of the actions. The developer also added his/her personal touches like having "Jedi X" at the bottom of the lock screen and "Deviant Development" on the notification bar as you're swiping it down. Personally, I don't care for it. As I've just loaded it, I can't really say much about battery life yet.
Seems to me that you really can't go wrong with the two I've mentioned above and the developers are active in supporting their ROMs.
JediXPX is the best fit for me, the battery life is just insane with his Saber Kernel........its stable as ****, and runs super smooth. i have been on it since Jedi 3. something or other.
i have tried them all as well, not just the top 6 and Jedi seems to be the one that has them all beat in my OP anyway. but there works of art so pick one and run away.
Skynote for me
JediXPX is the smoothest ROM I have ever used. And I go through a lot of roms lol

N7105XXDMA6 is what I've decided to stick with for now.
Paired with Perseus kernel seem to do really well for me. I love AOSP roms but can not stand the absence of the S-Pen/S-Note features, then again, there are mods for N7105XXDMA6 that have allowed me to mimic CM 10.1 very closely with color scheme, features, CRT animation....all that good stuff!
After going through about 6 ROMs and trying them out for a day or two. The one I have settled on is Paranoid Android 3.00 for the N7105. The vast majority of this ROM is flawless. Super smooth running with zero lag, lockscreen or otherwise. PA-Colors is a really cool feature. I thought i wasn't going to care but it really evolves they seemlessnes when switching between apps, the notification bar fades into each one and is completely customizable. Photosphere doesn't work just yet. But I expect that to come in a few updates or so.
I simply hate touch-wiz. I hope I'm not alone in feeling that way. Also, after coming the the i717 running Slimbean, the stock DPI is just way to huge looking. Touch-wiz and the stock DPI doesn't make good use of the size of the screen. I like being able to scale down the entire DPI and make it look like I'm not looking at it through a magnifying glass.
Honestly I will say that I may not completely understand the power of the S-Pen but it has enough functionality in non-touchwiz roms that i don't notice it lacking. But I do miss multi window, I really do.
Im open to suggestions and skyrocket intrigues me. I think im going to check it out.
*end rant*
The Jedi series is top notch. My personal favorite. A very good stock rom but added a few things to give it a different feel. Love it.

Jedi is really a beast. Great Bergey life and smooth as silk. Also something g that is super important very little problems and very stable. I have flashed other rooms but nothing else gave this combination. The saber kernel is amazing also. Quite a few themes that are not even built for this tomorrow flash well with it.
I have ever recently just starting g reading up on Jdevil rom and it seems to be getting rave reviews for speed and battery. It is based on the new international base and said to be super fast. People are getting huge quad scores without even oc. Something to keep an eye on.

Hello guys,
I'm new to the whole rooting game and I'm looking up new ROMs for my phone just to see what each team offers. Right now I'm using JellyBomb it's pretty dope but I'm not a big fan of the blue and black. Haha So if you can tell me what ROM you're using and why I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

Shop around Find what works best for you
I'll typically run The People's Rom or Mother of All Roms (MOAR) Can't go wrong with any, We are lucky to have a great group of developers for the S3, so there are so many options, customization's, Kernels and things, just gotta try till you find the best fit for you and your needs.
I am currently using Goodness and it's running like a champ.
TPR all the way best rom there is

Liquid Smooth RC2. Running Android 4.2.2 which are S3's probably won't be getting until the summer. Plus it's smooth as hell!
Im using sac23's ChemistryROM/Agat kernal. My favorite so far with multiwindow. Excellent battery life, oc'd to 1.7

Just a question... how often do you even use the multi-view lol? I just honestly don't see how/when it'd ever come in handy... besides to "show it off" but even then, our screens are not big enough for it really... hence why it was a Note II feature originally!

I thought I would never use it, but now I no longer use folders on my desktop, except for games. I just open apps (wether 1 or 2)from sidebar. I really use it more and more everyday. So theres not an instance where you wanna open an app without closing another 1. I use the sidebar to open even just 1 app, easier than folders to me.

Right now, I'm loving liquidsmooth rc2. Smooth, fast, and great battery when combined with the BMS kernel
I'm about to try peoples, it seems pretty nice. I was gonna try Liquidsmooth 4.2.2 but it doesn't have photosphere and I really love that camera!
You can always flash the stock 4.2 camera with photosphere. I did that and am currently using two stock cameras on my phone. I don't have the link readily available on my phone, but I'll try to get it to you by morning, when I'm back up on my laptop.
You could also search for it over in the apps and mods section, I think if you search for "photosphere" you can find it over there (pretty sure that's where I found it).

I'm currently running Pac v. 21.0.0.
Question, does this ROM have boosted audio? Reason I ask is because even when not using the built-in DSP Manager, my music sounds horrible no matter what music app I use. It sounds like its boosted a lot but makes my headphones cut out almost. I like to stick with AOSP Roms and like AOKP but would like a ROM with no audio tweaks whatsoever. Thanks. PM me some info. Thanks.
I would recommend liquidsmooth, if you don't run across the issue of reverting back to the the nv subscription after rebooting.Other than that, the rom is, so far, the smoothest rom i have seen as of yet.
With most 4.2.x roms, you are bound to run into a problem, either big or small, only because its relatively new. 4.1.2 is generally more stable because its been around for so long.
Liquid Smooth is now stable. HIGHLYYYY recommended. When I first started to flash ROMs I flashed like literally 5 a day... then I found Liquid Smooth a week into my flashing addiction and this ROM has cured my addiction. I have yet to flash another since Liquid Smooth came out (over a month ago).

Yeah, for me both CarbonRom and LiquidSmooth have been my consistent ROMs. The only time I flash other ones is when I'm trying to help troubleshoot problems for others here on XDA.
+1 liquidsmooth stable.
i am currently using Miui rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087638
i have also recently been using unofficial Carbon http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2193751
but was on the port of AOSP 3.10 rom for the longest time http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142668
I'm also enjoying LiquidSmooth. I've flashed quite a few TW and AOSP/KP roms recently and this is the best so far. Zero problems (OK - one very minor aesthetic annoyance, but I'm letting that go).
