Calkulin's E4GT 2 v1.6 bug? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I would have made a reply post in the dev thread but my post count is to low, sorry about that.
Also i read through a lot of the recent pages that pertained to version 1.6 with no answer.
After a few days of using this ROM i have noticed an odd bug. Throughout the day, my phone would be on in my pocket with out me knowing. The screen would be on and also wife, Bluetooth, gps, 4g... Certain apps would also turn on. I wear thick work pants so i don't believe my skin would have triggered this. The battery would obviously be drained with only being off the charger for 4 hours...
yesterday night, i noticed my pocket was red hot. So i went to grab my phone out to see what was going on. I have never felt a phone that was this hot before. I immediately took the battery out and let the phone cool off for a good half hour.
Just curious if anyone has noticed this before and if there is a fix? To be safe i am going back to my old ROM.

That is definitely not normal. Try a clean wipe and reinstall. If still getting this then check a program like badass battery monitor to see what is doing it. Again this is not normal at all and you are one of the only ones potentially having the issue so i don't think it is the rom in this case. Good luck and hope it corrects.

Definitely not the ROM. I've been using it without issues since it came out and by the number of people that use the ROM, it would've come up if it were isolated to the ROM itself. As the previous poster indicated possibly something running in the background. Did you in do a clean install from GB or Calk 1.5 (whichever you were on)?
My phone did something similar running on of the leaked ICS (non-custom) ROM's a few weeks ago and I remember just going into recovery, then wiping cache and dalvik cache. No issues since then. When in doubt start with a "clean" install and if restoring from TB, then restore apps only and no system data. This seems to play nice for me.
Good Luck.

I used calk's format all coming from GB. All of his ROM's have run great for me.
The best ROM i have used to date was his el29 v3.0.
I figured this was very specific, i will check out that battery monitor. Thanks for the input!

[Q] Updated Radio, Now Android OS is Draining Battery BAD

Ok guys, here's the thing. First My Phone Specs:
Android 2.2 Baseband 2.15.00.05.02 Kernel 2.6.32.15-ge2fb08e
Fresh Evo 3.3.0.1 Software 3.29.651.5 PRI 2.15_003 PRL 01115
Previous PRI was 1.70 don't remember the rest Sorry
I updated last night to the Radio that comes out on the NEW 2.3 update. The only reason I updated it, was because both my siblings Evos (stock unrooted 2.3 update) have better reception than mine, and I actually have NO signal at my sisters house, yet hers is Perfect. I updated the radio off of ROM manager (a first) only because other evo owners said it was a good update.
Since then, I unplugged the phone at 7am, went to school, played music for like 13 mins, sat in class (low/bad signal - Nothing New always like that), and by 9:40am I had 50% battery. NO USAGE AT ALL. Main consumption was Android OS which didn't even exist in the battery info page prior to the update (I had and still have Android system, and both appear there) at 40% of the battery usage, then the normal ones.
Phone was dead by 11:50am
Although the signal is poor, Mon-Wed same schedule, class, and usage (NONE), I had 89-85% at 9:40am.
I click on Android OS, and I get NO information at all. It was never there before, and now I have Android OS consuming all the battery, and the Normal Android System at about 10-13% normal.
The weird thing is, it's 2h33m17s since unplugged, and Android OS is at 2h11m12s 31% Data sent 11.43 KB Data Received 903.75 KB and my battery is already at 53%. At this rate I'll have to charge it 3 times today, with NO USAGE. Android System is only at 13m.
I have restarted it several times, didn't work.
What do you guys suggest?
If I were to do the OTA Update would that fix it, if it has something to do with the radio update I did?
I know there isn't a root for 2.3 yet, but I'd rather wait with a phone that's actually usable.
I know the update removes Root access and Roms and all, BUT doesn't it also overwrite any Flashed Radios?
Sorry for the Long Post, but I just wanted to explain as much as I could to help you guys Help Me.
Thanks in advance for the Help Guys
Have you checked running services/apps that may be hogging alot of resources such as CPU and/or data? I am rooted so i dont have all those damn services running on CM7 but when i wasnt rooted, I would always end the BS that didnt need to run. Always left background data off unless i went to the market and auto sync always off too. If you dont have anything that appears to be hogging resources, just backup your apps with titanium backup and factory restore. I've have had a few problems that the factory restore just took care of. And doesnt take that long really. 15 mins tops and everything was back to normal. Just make sure you know your gmail account. Almost forgot mine the first time. lol Let us know

I did check it, but it was all the normal things like Tasker, Lookout, and some normal one.
The weird thing is, why did it all of a sudden happen after the flashed radios, and why did the Android OS all of a sudden appear out of nowhere?
I really thinking of just doing OTA update if I have to go the Factory reset way. I know it will kill my root, but Unrevoked should almost be out with a solution.
Just thought it was really weird how it happened after the radio combo flash. I would also just like to solve it and stay on my current ROM for now. Whatever solves it you know.
Why not just downgrade your radios?
Also I would flash the radios from recovery or get the PC36IMG.zip you can flash from your bootloader I don't trust ROM manager I use to use it but had nothing but problems also you should change recoverys to ra Amon 2.3 some PPL have problems with cwm I did and never looked back .

Oh also if your on the gb radios you should probably be on a gb ROM.

I had thought about that, but usually stay away from radios, since most problems arise from this. Hence THIS Post
I always used cwm, but have heard about certain problems which I haven't had luckily. I am on the older version though, which is recommended for radio flashes.

That was what I was really wondering. I thought it something to do with me being on Froyo instead of GB. Although the radio combos are out there, non of them said this, but it makes sense though.
My phone's almost dead again, and getting frustrated.
I'm really thinking about doing OTA, or maybe just trying Fresh's Beta ROM (GB) from the leak, then upgrading to the updated OTA one, once it is out.
What do you think about that?
Of course I would wipe everything before the ROM flash to avoid complications.
Thanks for your help

Funny, I have the same issue. I'm rooted and was running Warm 2.2, upgraded to Synergy and was running great for 4-5 days on the nightly roms. 4G would connect then disconnect right away so I ran Calkulin's radio zip and upgraded all of them, 4G works!!! This was on Monday. Wednesday night phone was on my lap watching TV and it got real warm, I looked at it and I was at 15%, started at 63% when I sat down 25 minutes ago. I run Battery monitor pro and before I had this problem the mHa would sit around 100-200 depending on what was being done, not I can't get it below 400mHa. Even after I flashed the radios it was working fine for 2 days, then all of a sudden it's warm and my batter won't last, no other programs were installed.
I'm on mikg v1.03 and everything is working awesome for me.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I noticed the same battery draining issues. I think it was after the GB radio flash and not before.
I then checked some stuff and saw data in background running as well as Sync.
These were disabled before the flash but seemed to get enabled again.
Draining issue seems to have resolved itself. But I will keep an eye on it to make sure.

I actually just finished downloading it, and just waiting for my phone to get a charge so I can start wiping, and flashing.
How is it in battery life, smoothness, wifi, and all other things?
Also, I don't need to flash a separate kernel right?
I'd rather not, and usually ONLY flash ROMs.
Thanks Guys

The battery is pretty good for a stock kernel I get about 9 hours of heavy use and everything is running smooth for me make sure you wipe everything and you should be good.
And no you don't need to flash a kernel it come with the right one its stock till they release the source code for it then the dev can give us some sbc, havs etc...

Just installed mikg v1.03 after a good wipe and it's still getting warm and draining fast. Only have Batter monitor pro installed and 2 hours after install it's using ~600ma. I'll let it sit over night and see how it does. If that doesn't work I'm gonna download the other radios and see what works best.
Any last recommendations before I unroot and flash back to stock? I tried all different radios last night with no success, I have never seen this before in on this phone and I have been flashing for over 8 months with it, I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue as it happend all of a sudden.

I'll stick with this kernel, and No themes for now, the Sense is enough for my taste at the moment. Including the on off tv animation
Question though, I've been getting FCs on my Voicemail and some Google process (forgot to wirte it down). Do you know anything about that by any chance?
Thanks

Yes you can flash ra from ROM manager thats what I did I was just like you at one point dependent on rm but get the xda app and learn how to use it you will love this site.
And no wiping cache and dalvik cache won't hurt anything you can do this over and over with no problems and you would be surprised what that can fix also fixing permissions .
You will learn downloading ROMs from this site and flashing from ra recovery will give you better results just read the ROM install instruction and you will good to go.
I also have VR supper wipe zip. Thats what I flash before I install a new ROM and I never have any problems I'll try to find you a link if you want it .
If you ever need help PM me I'm not a dev but I'm on here allot and have flashed allot of ROMs and mods I try to give back to xda by helping PPL out .
I hope I helped you in some way.

[Q] SFR 1.2 - All apps start freakin out

So this morning for no apparent reason my phone started freaking out and was flashing FC's on the screen, it appeared to be every app installed, Google, Touch Pro, etc... I pulled the battery, then re-booted and it just started over. I finally went back into CWM and reloaded SFR, then Genocide, then re-enabled Journaling (ran the zip) and everything seems to be okay now (except the battery has been sucking juice worst than being on stock). Just wonderin if anyone else has experienced this? I honestly didn't do anything to the phone, it was in my holster, I pulled it to check email. I love this rom, and I'd rather not go back to stock... thanks for any help.
Sounds like a bad flash. Flash it again only wipe before you do. Do a nand restore>advanced restore data from a known good nand.

Yeah I always turn Journaling on after I flash. It did it again today (for no apparent reason), all of a sudden I started getting FC's (from LauncherPro), so I couldn't get to the home screen or anything. I finally wiped everything again (x3 of course), reinstalled the Rom, then the Kernel, then turned Journaling On, then restored my last backup. It's getting just a little bit old, has anyone else had the problem of LauncherPro just FC for no apparent reason? Thanks!

We have the same thing with my Wife's phone. It started after her phone shut down from low battery. Then BOOM Force Closes, in Swype and Google Apps. I had to do a full wipe 3x and reload the ROM to get it to work again. MAJOR PITA!
Especially because she is much less forgiving of phone "flakyness" than I am.
Thoughts?

I think it just gets in a "weird" state sometimes. It takes me about 3 minutes to re-run everything (including the backup once I re-image) and I guess I just don't see it as any worst than stuff I have to do to PC's all day long when testing....haha

[Q] Issue after ICS update - Phone freezing

After the ICS update on my non-rooted phone, the phone seems to be freezing
up and becoming unresponsive. After a while it looks like the radio "resets", all
the icons disappear in the top bar (signal, wifi, data) and it shows no service.
Then slowly one by one they all come back and I can use the phone again.
Sometimes I receive the "System is not responding" dialog box, but not always.
There is not one particular program it is doing this in, it can be something as
simple as pulling down the notification bar that will cause the freeze.
Any suggestions are appreciated, I couldn't find anyone else with the same issue.
Thanks.
Try:
Turn off phone
Take out SIM
Put SIM back
Turn on
I've had my phone act weird with respect to signal, wifi and data when this was the issue. Worth a shot, at the very least.

Thank you for the response.
Tried this and had the system is unresponsive issue right on reboot. If I do a
factory reset, does it reset to the current firmware or what was originally on the
phone (probably a really stupid question). I wonder if some other program isn't
ICS compatible and is doing something in the background. Doesn't look like
anyone else is having this same issue.

If you do a factory reset and it was the standard Kies legit update from Tmo, it won't downgrade your phone - will just re-install a fresh copy of your ICS. Did you do a restore of apps from your last version (gb?) with data? That could cause problems I would think..

Are you letting it sit for like 10 minutes during first boot after factory reset then reboot again before setting up. Its likely that some scripts are running from the initial installation and you need to let it rot until its done..
I did exactly that, thanks for the advice. Hoping that may fix the problem. I wiped the cache and factory reset, then let the phone sit for a good while before going through the play store and re-installing everything.
This issue just resurfaced again. The last 2 days I am getting the freezing, radio reboot and android process not responding.
No one else having this issue?
I think I'm in the same boat. I was stock GB, and just did the mini OTA update (which was great). A few days later ICS became available via Kies from T-Mobile, and I "upgraded".
Since the upgrade my phone is laggy, screen is significantly less responsive and also my battery life is less than before.
I have NOT done a factory reset of my phone yes (plan on doing that today), but even with that I have read that performance does not improve.
Ideally, I would love to return back to the stock tmobile gb firmware. However, even after literally 2 hours of reading I can't find the "how-to" and files I need.
I would appreciate any assistance.
t989 chip lags
ive notice this happen on my tmobile galaxy s2. i think it has to do with the Qualcomm chip on tmobiles stock roms.
When i had sprint i bought my girlfriend a galaxy s2 on the sprint network which runs the samsung exynos chip. She never complained about any lag or freezing whatsoever. I then left sprint because of their garbage network and joined tmobile.
bought 2 galaxy s2s and i noticed the lag almost immediately. The phone has random lag spikes as well as freezing and force closes. It had it on stock gingerbread and it has it on stock ICS too.
My girlfriend complains about freezing all the time so i decided to root her phone too. Right now im testing DarkSides v7 rom and if its pretty good in performance i will flash her phone with it too. So far it has been pretty snappy and everything works.

I would appreciate any assistance.

follow that first post. i went through exactly the same problems and found this guide and am now happy again and running stock GB on my Galaxy S2.
Because you are on stock ics (im guessing you are..), you can just follow that guide and flash the UVLDE update.
Yes clock resets to standard standard time.. I already did a factory reset and worked done for a couple weeks. My wife has same phone and she is getting the freeze ups now.

Yup here too. Almost reminds me of XP. Really ticking me off & it never happened on gingerbread. Rooted now & before I'm on rogers 4.0.4. wondering if there's going to be fix? Haven't seen if Google / rogers /at&t have commented?

I'm getting the freezes as well even after doing a factory reset.
It sucks, I'm waiting for cyanogen to release a stable release and then I'm switching.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it a try. But it really shouldn't be necessary on a phone that's got more going for it than the stock nexus that 1st came out with ics.
There's something else going on.

Battery and stability issues with new ICS

I've updated from a rooted stock GB ROM to the ICS update. I'm surprised this is the update Sprint/Samsung released for the phone. The GB ROM was stable and clean, this one seems to have some issues... primarily:
1) Battery life is 6-7 hours LESS - at least.
One thing I've noticed here is that "Android OS" is using about half of the battery. Previously (and confirmed with my buddy with his GSIII), this only used about 4% or 5% . I suspect this is a culprit.
I've attached some screenshots showing this.
Almost no use of the phone all day, I was at work - some light texting later in the day. So little that SMS or GoSMS don't even appear on the chart.
2) Swype keyboard issues.
Yes, you can clear your app cache for swype and get it to work. However, you apparently can't get copy/paste/select word/select all to work.
When you click on text and click the little handle that appears, only a small box appears above, which is where the menu should be for copy/paste/select word/select all should be. At least I think that's the options - from memory, since I don't have them any more. :crying:
I've attached a screenshot showing this.
[EDIT: This is a usage issue - I consider this more difficult than before, and quirky in that it doesn't always work, but generally if you press and hold text, it'll open an edit panel where the notification bar is. Sometimes double-clicking works.]
3) Signal issues.
Again using the Battery screen - I'm seeing some very odd patterns both with carrier data signal and wifi. Previously, carrier signal was an uninterrupted line, of varying shades of green that corresopnded to signal strength. Now, when I look at this line, there's some very good sized breaks in it. That's a sharp contrast to how it used to be.
I know that searching for signal can use battery - maybe an issue with the radio? modem?
Same for wifi - I used to have a setting for "wifi off when screen off". Now it's gone, or changed - I see a "wifi on while sleep" that is checked. Despite this setting remaining constant, I see periods where that seems to be happening (later), but also a long period where wifi is active despite the screen off.
I've attached a screenshot showing this. See the "mobile network signal" line in the plot.
4) General, observed quirkiness.
Screen not being as responsive. When I press the power button on my phone now, it takes 2 or 4 seconds for the screen to activate. Touching the screen sometimes results in a very laggy response... enough time to poke the screen a second time. Skippy/unsmooth screen transitions in some cases. I've had GoSMS vanish on me a couple times and I had to relaunch it. Other apps become unresponsive and I've had to hit the home button repeatedly - sometimes 10-15 seconds before the phone comes back to the home screen and out of that app.
The screen captures were taken throughout the day - the times appear on them.
I've also attached two BetterBatteryStats dump files - one of them I had all options checked, the other just the defaults. They were taken about the same time, and about the same time I took the 8 hour screen cap.
If it matters, I'm using Go Launcher EX, it's still my stock launcher. I'm noticing not many people on ICS using it - are there known problems?
This is frustrating to me - I use this phone for work, I came off an AOKP ROM to get back on a stock ROM, for two things:
1) stock stability and battery life.
2) the Exchange account options for sync scheduling (on peak/off peak schedules for sync) that only seem to be in the stock ROM.
[EDIT: I performed a full factory wipe several days ago, and reinstalled all apps via market, and still are experiencing these exact symptoms. No improvement. May restore my nandroid from before the wipe just to gain back a few things I inadvertently lost as this didn't resolve anything.]
Accordingly, I'd like to see this ROM working. Any thoughts on these?
Anyone else observing these symptoms, relative to the stock GB rom?
5) GPS changes/bugs
I've also noticed some GPS changes / bugs that I'm not liking.
The GB GPS sucked, now this one seems worse:
Driving tonight, I had to reboot my phone to stop my eternal wait for "searching for GPS" in the car. No different than I've occasionally had to do with the GB rom.
However, then when I made a couple wrong turns or deviations from the route, it got stuck on "recalculating". Eternally.
I know I was in an area with good data, because I exited the Navigation app, relaunched it and picked the last destination and it calculated the new route instantly. It didn't successfully recalculate once... three times I had to restart the navigation app.
Also - the old navigation app used to tell you "...in a quarter mile, exit on..." and "...in 100 feet, turn onto..."
This new navigation app does no such thing. It just says "turn right on _____ street". Which is useless if there's no street sign (hence several of my "recalculating" incidents).
Bump - anyone experiencing these bugs? I haven't seen them reported - any of them.
Looking for something to try to resolve one, or all of them.
Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

I have had HORRIBLE battery life since the upgrade. It is worse than half of what I was getting prior to ICS
My GPS is working like a bauce though, finds my locations within seconds.
My boss got the upgrade last night and has Go Launcher and their suite of products on his device and he can't send texts now
I feel accomplished if I've stumped all of XDA... :silly:
I did discover a workaround for the copy/paste/select issue - long pressing in ICS opens a menu at the top of the screen for that.
However, still stumped on
1) 6-7 hour battery life reduction
3) signal issues
4) Quirkiness/freezing/sputtering responses
5) GPS issues - both signal and new app
Anyone else but me experiencing any others besides #1?
geoleomon - I would suggest grabbing XDA's version of Better Battery Stats, and monitoring your battery life that way rather then using the Android version.
But yes, I have experienced some of the battery issues, just no where near to that extent (maybe 4 -6 hours less).

I've previously posted my results from the paid full version of the app... see the original post, two text files attached.
(one complete, one over-complete)
Anything out of the ordinary in there? What should I look for?
thanks-
Another piece of the puzzle:
I was using the camera, and it crashed - an error I didn't capture but something like "media server crashed - camera must restart". Happened twice before the camera actually started OK. Perhaps significantly, I had the phone docked when I fired up the camera - desk dock.
Also, noticing that listening to music in my desk dock at work, several times now the song has just stopped playing a few seconds in, and the media player closes. I restart the music player, and everything is OK. Sometimes that happens 2 or 3 times before the player works again, and then sometimes it'll happen an hour or so later even after it does start working again.
Could this be related?
try this then report back I have none of these issues you speak of but I am generally in a good signal area. Your signal looks awful, defiantly will cause battery drain.

I used the "nodata" version of that kernel to install CWM after rooting.
This will wipe my phone, which I'm looking to avoid doing if possible, if that's not the "nodata" version I already have.
Can you clarify on what you are advising?
Interesting though - a coworker suggested possibly if I wipe my phone it might clean things up.
I have just cleared my Dalvik cache, however I believe I did this before. I'm doing this now noting that as per my prior post, I'm seeing a few things force close, or else stop suddenly (like music player) without closing.
Also using CWM to "fix permissions" (not quite sure what this means).
We'll see what my results are after this.
I'd like to get this stock ROM working well if at all possible - if for no other reason than the Exchange peak/off peak email sync settings that don't seem to exist in other ICS ROMs.
I wish a mod would sticky a battery life complaint thread and close all others. Every other thread is an ics battery life complaint.

using nodata is you're problem, all of the issues you've described could be caused by using nodata, this is why it is advised in almost every roms dev thread to do a full wipe, not no data... you may be able to get away with it without any serious bugs upgrading the same rom one revision but not going from gb to ics. you need to do a full wipe and fresh flash, legacy gb app framework is causing these issues, not ics

And half the threads that arnt about battery life/"bugs" where the poster provides only basic anecdotal "evidence" and no technical data whatsoever on FF18 are gripes about sprint and sprint related issues... have people never heard of the sprintusers forum, THATS where those complaints belong, not here

Thanks for this part - however...
The very advantage of going the OTA (or at least stock - I didn't OTA it) stock route is to not clear the phone.
Samsung/Sprint spent how many months developing this, to provide an update that's supposed to be clean for existing, non-technical, non-rooted, mom & pop users. I wanted to go this route simply as the "cleanest" option. And I've got lots set up on my phone and very little time around now - I'd prefer not to lose it if I can avoid it. As much as you try to back up, and remember, and all that, every time you wipe you forget something...
It's a little bit like being a Jeep owner, and saying "you know, everyone could get away with driving a Jeep".
Sure... they could... but they wouldn't all enjoy it, and it really wouldn't fit everyone's use case.
Usually, advise like this really just reflects a lack of vision: "I can't imagine anyone who uses their phone different than ME".

Again - seems more and more like you are a child, not only lacking maturity, but injecting your own prejudices rather than reading.
I'm seeking solutions.
And XDA is the place for options. Solutions are a subset of options.
Grow up.
I wasn't referencing you as whining at all, however this thread belongs in the Official OTA thread, not on its own, that's what the commenter prior to me and I were both refrencing- the constant new threads about the same 3 or 4 issues with the OTA when there is already a thread for it... that said you said you're seeking solutions, I offered you one that will work, I'm sorry that it displeases you, but doing a full wipe and a clean install will solve pretty much every issue you have, so backup your apps, and text messages if you want those as well, it takes less than 5 minutes in titanium backup and SMS backup, and do a clean flash or Odin (if flashing make sure you are on a safe kernel). That will fix your problems, its silly to keep asking for solutions when the best and most likely to be successful one has already been proffered.... or should you still for some reason not want to do this just unroot and take it to a sprint store, they'll do a factory reset, that'll fix all of the issues you're having. Save the time and effort and just do it yourself, no one is going to post any magic advice that'll make it all OK with nothing unchanged

yup wiping in cwm will do it, again be sure you're on a safe recovery eg. agats or chris41's... things like the force closes of music player and the malfunctioning of swipe, camera, etc, are due to coming from gb without a full wipe... i do realize its a PITA if you wanted to keep it simple, but it is what it is you know... insofar as battery I've never had a problem running ff18 based roms such as blu kuban or goodness, I've never run bone stock myself but if you continue to have issues there are tweaks, such as kobridges and phakers scrips that'll help out a lot, in addition to disabling unnecessary syncs, etc... however after giving it a few days to settle I've not had any problem getting a full day of moderate use out of ff18 based roms...
just to add a little more, fixing permissions will help a little with force closes... if you are unfamiliar with the UNIX permission system you can find some good info here ( http://www.perlfect.com/articles/chmod.shtml ), however it would still probably be best to to a wipe as it most likely won't fix all the bugaboo's you have from keeping your gb /data partition... despite what the horrid touchwiz interface would have you believe ICS is a huge step forward from GB, and that old app data can and will cause problems... lastly sorry if i came off a bit gruff, as I'm sure you've picked up I'm somewhat tired of seeing threads about the OTA, however to your credit you did post tons of concise, detailed info and were open to suggestions, I've seen similar thread where the OP just posts something akin to "ICS data sux, wtfff????" and when recognized devs tell them what they need to do they start to argue, which makes no sense to me... I was most likely taking my frustration at those threads and their apposition to the purpose of XDA out on you, for that I apologize, good luck with it and should you need further help let me know, I'd be glad to assist or at least point you in the direction of information that may help
This thread seems to have gone off the rails a bit... All the answers you seek are in development op. It requires reading though... There are roms and explanations for every problem you listed. If you say no they're not... Then you have not taken the time to read... Simple as that... I am a developer here and no one taught me anything. I READ AND LEARNED IT. i have a family and a life and the whole bag... So there are no exscuses. I challenge you to take the time to read and learn and give back. Maybe YOU can find the answera to your questions and post the answers here so you can help someone else who will post this and that doesnt work (but does, they just didnt read and learn how to fix it). Because as soon as you post it someone else will have the same complaints and questions and will be to lazy to search...

random freezes

I'm sure this may have been covered, but I'm really getting tired of having to pull the battery every time. My poor back cover is losing its hooks from doing it up to 3 times a day. So far, it hasn't been a certain app or action that causes it, it seems quite random. It will just completely freeze with no button presses, only thing to do is pull the battery. I've used multiple different ROMs, but it seems to happen on every one. Is this just something I'll have to deal with or is there any kind of fix?
Weel, to avoid the back cover damaging it's better (if you have a PC next to you) that you reboot through adb reboot instead pulling the battery...
For better understanding your problem you've to tell which rom are you using, which kernel, how did you install it (clean or dirty flash), have you restored setting with TiBu or other apps, and last but not least if you're configuring your phone with some strange settings (i.e. overclock, undervolt, tweaked build.prop and so on).
Currently, I'm running jbsourcery 4.3 with zen kernel 16 with it set on pegasusq and sio, no other over clock or under volt settings. I've tried comotio, atom, factoryrom, cleanrom, paranoid, and I can't remember what else. I've also tried trinity, air, and Franco kernels. Every time I flash something new, I do a full wipe, cache, dalvik, factory reset, and format system. I usually use ROM toolbox pro to restore apps and settings as opposed to tibu, but the last time I let Google restore the apps, then restored data to the ones I needed.
I'd return to stock (Google factory images) for a couple of days to test if the random freezes stop.
I have had a similar experience to yours. I have noticed the nearest thing to a common theme is it usually seems to happen when going from WiFi to 4g or 3g and sometimes from a 3g signal to a 4g signal (or the other way around). It also happens immediately when trying to turn off airplane mode. It is very frustrating. The experience has been minimized since going to mmuzzy's room and tiny's kernel. On that setup, I haven't had to do a battery pull in a little over a week. I am guessing it is because mmuzzy's room is much closer to source. You might give it a try.

I went ahead and took your advice and ran bone stock for a couple days. It was good the first day, the second day the freezes started again. I went ahead and flashed one of the stable AOKP builds with zen kernel and it still freezes. I just downloaded the team lean AOKP and am gonna try that next, but its just so frustrating!

Tiny4579 (developer of the Tiny kernel), just reported that this is a known issue with the stock kernel and that until Google fixes the issue there is nothing any developer can do to fix it. While it doesn't fix the problem, it helps me to know that. BTW, I have had the fewest with Tiny kernel of any I have tried.

Nothing like that here, tested for long enough with stock, custom built aosp and CyanogenMod.
Are you sure it ain't the app data you're restoring?...
When we say go back to stock to test, you need to run stock with the bare minimum and not restoring anything. I.e To test, I run stock with 2 extra apps: a file manager and supersu, for over a week.
