3g usually takes more battery than wifi. I personally experienced it.

Agree with you also. At least 2 charge per day.

its normal i think.. when a mobile network is on there are so many applications that auto run on your background and some of them are using mobile network connections and if you leave your mobile network activated it means all the time there are some applications that accessing the network which uses so much of the battery power, meanwhile the wifi connection only uses battery when its scanning(depending on the time interval that you set to scan when your not connected) but if your connected it also uses much power however its not that power consuming as the mobile network.

I'm using the newest miui and I've been told to get great battery life to turn off all mobile date which I have done. But when I look at my battery stats it shows mobile network signal on 80% of the time. Is there any way to get this down to about 20% like I've been told? I don't see how it can be active so much if all my data is off

I've had battery issues ever since I bought my Note 2. I tried buying a new battery, custom ROM (ARHD 13.0), custom kernel (RedPill). I get a drain of 2% per hour in standby, and 17.2 percent (!) per hour in normal usage, not even heavy gaming. The screenshots are for continuous usage. I got rid of wakelocks, the AudioOut2 one by Viber, the NetworkStatusMonitor through maps. (these were 80% of all partial wakelocks)
I usually have sync enabled, 4 email accounts for once in four hours, and Facebook, and Samsung backup. That's it. I'm on an EDGE network, with network set to GSM only, WiFi only on when required.
I have ~83% Deep Sleep when I don't touch the phone overnight.
All motions/smart *s are disabled.
I don't know what else to do. My wakelocks show completely normal values. (I'll upload some when I get to unused time)

Almost 90% sleep. But still draining 10% in 10 hours of no use.
Could someone help me debug this drain?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
If you are complaining about 10% drain over 10 hours (1% drain an hour) then you are very mistaken about how a mobile phone works.
There's nothing wrong here I can see.
I've seen people report less than 3% drain overnight. And 2-3% per hour of use. 17% an hour? Too much.
Edit: I know cell phones consume battery because they're wirelessly connected to and monitoring networks and that they need battery to receive and process packets of data and other stuff while not being used, if that's what you mean.

Is your wifi power save mode on or off?
!!
I have the same excact problem. Just bought it and the battery drains so faaaaaaaaast !!!...
The screenshots in my first and second posts are with WiFi on, connected but never searching. In the third post, WiFi was off the whole time.
Edit: Power saving was off both times. There's a noticeable FPS drop with power saving that I hate.

Please get Better Battery Stats, and post your screenshots over at least an hour of no use, and 30 minutes of use. I might be able to help. (I'll try, anyway).

Are you on an AOSP/AOKP/CM based ROM? I understand that battery will be significantly better on those than a Sammy based ROM because of Sammy bloatware, but I'm unwilling to lose all the perks. Although the figures I said people have are all for people on either stock with custom kernel, ARHD, or ARHD with a custom kernel.
Edit: I also took care to take these figures from this forum from people who had a few syncs/online services enabled.

Install perseis kernel...dont try to install cheap apps or games from playstore...beacause they run even after closing it in the background...try to deactivate your 3g network and wlan ...btw.. try tge app 3g manager...it deactivates your 3g mobile network when you lock the phone.. and reactivate it when you unlock the phone..it might help you.

I think 1% per hour is normal because the use to monitor the network

Not anymore. Perseus kernel with Greenifier = 0.3% drain an hour, and 5% per hour of use.

When i do active my mobile network,it drain battery like hell and phone warming and when i check battery from systam manager it says %60 screen..But i checked and tried many time it happens when i do active mobile network.
if you have bad service or no service in your area then the radio will use more power to find signal. You could try flashing a different radio to see if it helps.

Having the same issue running beanstalk 4.4.2.. Battery drains 20%/h while using Mobile data and that's with full bars

This is screen shots
While idle and all connectivity off except SMS & phone calls I lose 1.7%/h is this normal?
Sent from my GT-I9192 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'd say yes. As I can see from your Screenshots you were two times disconnected from any cellular network. Remember this causes more battery usage (but no drain at all), because the phone is searching for network consistently.
Both, the 1.7/h as well as your screens are totally okay.
But I read some where that I can bring down usafe to less than 1 %
I have disabled all samsung apps and use silvui kernel
I have note 2014 unrooted and battery loss per hour is far less
Sent from my GT-I9192 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
That's right search forum for threads with this topic. You said this battery usage appears at idle state. The second screen isn't idle at all because you are using your device (but you have no wake locks which is pretty good btw). I'm sure you reach less than 1%/h when you don't use your device. You can also install better battery stats to monitor what's using energy and freeze it.
Did you also activated energy saving? Try this in addition to offline mode and check with BBS the over night consumption. I'm pretty sure it's below 1.
Last night battery dropped from 43% to 35% in 3 hours while I was sleeping thats too much ... 3g wifi bt off

Were the many Apps in multitasking? Try clearing RAM, reboot and all energy saving techniques.
Try to post idle stats

Idle Iowa between 1.4%/h to 1.8%/h I think this is too much
Sent from my GT-I9192 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Install better battery stats or wakelock detector
Then charge your phone at full clean all ram and leave it untouched while you sleep and post your stats right when you start using your phone
sent from my i9192 with CM11 by sekil
Idid that and it loses between 1.4 to 1.7 but if used this become 2.7/h idle

Tell us what consumes battery most. Do you run your phone with two SIMs?
I think is the radio and cpu
Sent from my SM-P601 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
we cant help much without battery stats or wakelocks
try silvuimik or ametris kernel those are greate also change your governor
Same Here
Ya i'm facing the same problem. I'll get back with my stats.
Getting 0.8%/hr battery loss with cm11 by sekil on f4k 1.5.0 kernel. single sim switched on with GSM data. Happy with it :fingers-crossed:
In advanced wifi settings, there is an option to "keep wifi on when screen is off."
Which is the more power efficient option, keep wifi on or off when the device goes to sleep?

It depends, if your LTE signal is bad then WiFi is better on so its not searching for LTE when it's sleeping. It's good if you won't be searching for signal and your phone isn't being used. If you are constantly using it them leave Wi-Fi on.

Last quick question. Is 15% of battery usage by "Android OS" considered normal? It's the 2nd biggest drainer on the list.
