I am completely lost as to what ICS Rom I should use on my Evo 4G.
Here is what 4 hours of searching has left me with.
There does not exist a rom to date that offers WiMax so I can use 4G. (I really would like to have that capability, however, it is not a deal breaker.)
These are the 6 roms I have found that seem useful.
PrimOG Preview 1.5 | 5-30-12 | Sense 4.0a | ICS 4.0.3
This one is fairly new but has Sense. It is quite limited in the features so far.
[Updated 5-28-12]MazWoz-EVO ICS ROM BETA 6
Only "negatives" listed are not Netflix, which I do not care about and that it is a beta. I would venture to guess that WiMax is not working on this either.
Team D.I.R.T | CM9 Port [UPDATED 28 MAY 2012]
Not Working:
- NO 4G
- NO FFC
- NO NETFLIX or HULU PLUS
- Native Camcorder does not record (use Videocam illusion)
[5/25/2012] MIUI.us 4.0.4-2.5.25 Ice Cream Sandwiched
Not working:
-WiMax
-Camcorder
[TEAM D.I.R.T][ICS][FOUR-OH-FOUR][HWA]Gummy 1.2.1 | May 19
Not Working
-No Netflix (AFAIK)
-No FFC (why there is no FFC)
-4G
[UPDATED 05/19] [ROM] [TEAM D.I.R.T] Dark LIGHT v3.5
Known issues:
- No 4G
- USB Tether FCs
- No Front Facing Camera
- Netflix(Audio works, no video)
- Desk Clock app FCs when in Tablet MODE
- Lockscreen occasionally does not react to touch
- Panoramic/Camcorder MODE is broken in the Camera app
- Density changer inside Settings doesn't work (use third party app included in the ROM until fixed)
- Video playback in gallery is 50/50, use 3rd party app like MX Player (works great with decoder s/w)
So there seems to be some great work on 6 different releases of ICS for this phone.
What I would like to know... I am fine with work arounds and a few bugs....
What is going to be the best daily use ROM to use out of these 6? (I realize that this is a matter of opinion, and opinions is what I am looking for.)
Can I still use the new Google Play app store?
Will I be able to install any app from places like Amazon and third parties?
Will my paid apps linked to my google account install?
Thanks for any help,
Brandon
Before I give my opinion I just want to say I am not a dev or an expert. But I have been flashing and rooting for about a year or so.
First of all the ics is a port from tablets, its going to have some bugs. I have ICS CM9 on my HP pad tablet and it works flawlessly minus the camera. Netflix and WiFi all work.
As far as roms go, for ics on EVO, I found the team D.I.R.T.'s cm9 v1.5 most stable with mason kernel. The gaming experience was amazing very fast and not laggy at all.
My 2 cents.

From what I understand Honeycomb was for tablets and ICS was the rebuilt version of Gingerbread using stuff from Honeycomb but built exclusively for phones.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Most programs should work but most of the bugs are kernel related and most likely won't be fixed until some sort of kernel source becomes available

Ics is the next os version of android. Its meant to bring tablets and phones the same version and to stop fragmentation. Also it bring alot of speed and battery improvements as well as a bunch of other nice features.
The reason there is no 4g is cause there is no source that has been released from HTC to get it working cause the evo is eol.

So, I went with this ROM. So far I love it and I don't see any reason to not use it daily.
[ROM][6/1/2012] MIUI.us 4.0.4-2.6.1 Ice Cream Sandwiched
The only other ROM I am going to follow is:
[ROM] PrimOG p1.5 | 5-30-12 | Sense 4.0a | ICS 4.0.3 |
I am interested to see how much having Sense would add to the user experience, however, this has quite a ways to go before it is ready for daily use.
Thanks for the replies.
Team D.I.R.T is what i put on mine. I'd rather have panoramic photos than front facing cameras. As far as netflix and hulu. Thats what the xbox is for.

Just wanted to say THANKS for saving me a LOT of time. Haha.
I wanted to tell you I saw where the CM9 are actually getting closer. I'm re-quoting a re-quote from PhaseL:
Here it is from the other thread:
Shinzul @Shinzul
Making good progress on wimax on cm9. Getting closer
Shinzul @Shinzul
D/WimaxStateTracker( 274): GetAvailableMs D/WimaxStateTracker( 274): wimax handler - EVENT_POLL_INTERVAL
Shinzul @Shinzul
btw for everyone who was like wtf about my last tweet, means winmax on cm9 is up and scanning! @toastcfh #teamwin
Hoping for the best, even though I gave the phone to my cousin, I still want him to have the latest and greatest. Haha!
Thanks, you saved me a bunch of time. I was thinking about trying out a new ICS ROM too.
Front facing camera
Will any of these ICS ROMS ever have front facing camera or camcorder functionalities?
Agreed on CM9, and with the setup I have now, it's really just amazing.
I never use FFC, Netflix or Hulu on my phone, so nothing missed there, and Peoria would never have seen 4G anyhow.
But, with Mason 15rc4 SBC, Wheatly Governor, COD Tweaks, it's incredibly fast, smooth and the simple themeing is just enough to make it gorgeous.
A girl I work with has a stock EVO and I showed her mine today and she said if her's is a Honda, Mine is a muscle car.

Greetings -
Over the past few months, I have enjoyed flashing ROMs. However, I can't find anything that is a "fit" for me. I welcome your suggestions.
(tl;dr included at bottom)
I started with the various Virtuous Unity builds. Virtuous Team has excellent work - everything is very polished and complete. However, Sense started to slow down/get on my nerves, I began to toy around with MIUI. First impressions were amazing, then the Chinese got in the way. I experimented with using GO Launcher EX, as well as ADW on top of MIUI...but I just did not find that MIUI was a fit for me.
I moved back to Virtuous.
Then Aerovan / Touchpro / Team KANG ICS ROMs became functional. I must say, I am anxiously awaiting a fully working (and customized) ICS build. However, I eventually had to move to something else to use as daily, as fully functional camera and non-crashing apps were a must.
Currently I am on CM7 (7.2 KANG).
Once again, credits to CyanogenMod - very simple, clean, and lite ROM. However, there are some things that I don't particularly love in AOSP Gingerbread. I've played around with ADW, Zeam, and Lightning Launcher, and while providing a very fast and basic functional experience, I am missing some of the convenient features offered in Sense and ICS ROMs.
tl;dr?
Ran Virtuous, MIUI, ICS, and CM7 ROMs. Wanting something new. Suggestions?
Sense ROMs, AOSP, anything and everything open.
Also, links to similar threads are welcome.
Kindest regards,
[::AP::]

Idk man I hate how heavy sense is, although the cam is BEAST. I'm on a 7.2cm kang as well and I love it. If you want an ics rom go aeroevans latest video doesn't work though but front can does (somewhat lol) and the market is jankety (fixable be killall drmserver in terminal emulator
I liked incredible HD over on the mik mik, its sense 3.5, the newer incarnation mik runny didn't seem as fast to me, and sabatoge sense based on the ota, its sense 2.1 with 3.0 parts built in, its here under development, both rooms are fully functional, fast, and as far as I could tell after running for a good while, bug free. Those are my sense picks. Right now I'm running an aosp rom, liquid 3.2, its highly customizable and has a built in theme Chooser, I think its faster and more customizable than cm7, and once again bug free, I love it, its ultra fast, and I use ex contacts, its a lot like sense contacts, you know, you can use the dial pad to type someones name and it will bring them up to call them, one of my favorite features about sense, you can also choose from all kinds of lock screens including sense, and there are the sense clock Widgets available on the market, yet you'll have the speed of aosp, I use launcher pro, fastest I've found of all the ones I've tried, there is also a built in over clock function in the settings, you can find this rom over on rootzwiki, hope this informed and helped you.

I'm in the same position as you man. I rooted as soon as AlpharevX put out rev for our phone, and since then ran MIUI, then about 3 months ago i switched to Virtuous. I love allot about sense but also hate too much to use it as a daily. Ive played with all 3 ICS roms out there, and in my opinion Aero's is by far the best in my opinion. It works great minus the finicky camera. his latest build the only things not so great are the cam, YouTube, and the internal mic isn't so great. but the market problem is fixed by a simple one time reboot. the Dinc2 just isn't shown enough love is all, and its sad.
Can someone list a couple of apps that don't work?
I can't get Google Goggles to even snapshot a picture of a QR code
I like that fact that FXP has done what they have but
CM9 dev team hasn't done much of keeping this phone what it was
No PSExperia support, No Video Play Back, Most google functions don't work, Forced dim lighting
FXP keep on rocking and hopefully you guys will get this rom upto full function
Cm9 is still in alpha, it's expected to be buggy
ICS still have issues with apps, I suggest you Google ICS compatibility, which is why its not being released sooner for many devices. As of this date, I don't even see CM9 for the Play (GSM) at the official Cyanogen website, and the CDMA version is not supported, so I don't see where you can blame the CM9 dev. Just have to wait till Sony release ICS for it.

CM9 is like the bleeding edge of technology. It's to be understood that, since it is in development, not everything is going to work like Stock.
The rule for using Custom ROMs is if everything has to work like stock, stick with ROMs based on Stock. If you want to help test the latest Mod and are willing to sacrifice some useability to do so, then go with the ROMs that are in development.
If you do decide to go bleeding edge, you are expected to keep up to date with the development thread for that ROM and to post your observations, pro and con, in that thread. That's the only way the devs and other testers know what the issues are.
A good stock ROM is the one by KeiranFTW called DarkForest 3.X (3.0.5 for CDMA, 3.1.0 for GSM). It's a nice balance between customization and stock, and pretty much everything works like you would expect. [ROM] Darkforest ROM 3.0.5 UPDATE | GSM 2.3.4/.62 | CDMA 2.3.3/.145 [WIP]
Hello,
Just wondering if there's a list of ics roms for the evo 4g? I saw there was one listed on the wiki - and looks like there's one more that i noticed on the rom development forum. Don't suppose there's a list which would list install steps/requirements and what's working/not working for however many ICS roms there are?
thanks
just gotta lol at this...umm some ofthe roms working and not working can change daily sooooo i'll chime in on the ones ive used
things that arent working across the board is 4g and front facing camera (ffc)
Gummyworms 4.0.3 ics version. camera is shifty works with a fix camcorder and panoramic dont work and no hardware acceleration (hwa).
Aokp based off of 4.0.4hwa does work. seems to have a something that is buggy that keeps it rebooting but to be honest isnt happening to everyone. camera works with a fix and camcorder and panoramic dont work (i cant remember that exactly but im pretty sure they dont)
and currently im on jamies first release of kwiq ics which has hwa, based of 4.0.4, camera works with a fix but camera and camcorder are not working. buuttt i have had no reboots yet which imo means its suppper stable.
rope made a comment that was really good to explain a difference but i dont remember it soooooo aokp/gummy are awesome if you want to have built in customizations and have a lot of bugs worked through but they have been through some releases. kwiq is really stable as i said but not as much to customize out of the box. which is a trade off but i have to say this is also first release of kwiq so i think there is room to grow there
I was just about to try evervol's rom based on 4.0.3 since it seems like that one ismore stable then the newest one based on 4.0.4

Not limited to ics but it does provide ask the basic info of the ROM then a link to the xda thread

I'm curious as to what are your favorite ROMs for the Dinc2. I have flashed many and found some good GB ROMs, and (mostly) stable ICS based ROMs. Jellybean looks nice, just not stable enough for me yet. I have a short list of favs (in no particular order):
andyBONESTOCK ( ya its a stock rom but i still like it at times)
SkyRaider Zeus 3.1
CM7.2
CM9
UKB ll
Might seem like fairly bland list but i like stability. I have tried many others but I always seem to keep coming back to one of the 5 listed above. There are a lot of great ROMs for our Dinc2 and i was just curious, what are your favorites?

I ran paranoid android for the longest time. I recently got into miui and I love that one as well
Current: Kangdemnation v0.5 - great battery life and stable
MIUI 12.9
SRZ
Currently on MIUI v4 CDMA, and love it.
I guess you could say MIUI in general, because I ran GB MIUI until January due to the amazing customization and theming abilities.
Some of my other favorites...
GBS Sense 5 with Sense 3 patch - Everything worked and you got some of the nicer features of Sense 3
UKB - Love the work Nits is doing with Sense 4, and excited to try Viper when it releases
Aero's CM10 - This is actually quite stable and very fast/smooth. There were, of course, bugs that kept me from staying with it long term.
I usually look for stability (no hot-boots or FCs), good battery life, decent speed/fluid animations, high-end features/customization. So the absence of features like 720p recording on ICS or JB wasn't a problem. I switched from CM10 because I wanted to use Skype with the ffc, but I really loved the smoothness and JB features in that one.
Currently running AE's CM10 and I love it. Beyond that, his CM9 is good and UKB is the only Sense Rom that I actually enjoy using.

It sounds interesting that's for sure. But I'm on my last day or two of using the Inc2. Once I get my GNex activated, the Inc2 will become my WiFi home phone. For that, I'll likely go back to CM7, as it seems to play the nicest with WiFi settings and GrooveIP.
Arctic Ascension v2.02 has been the most stable ROM I've tried on the Dinc2. Everything works on it including cameras, camcorder, mms, rotating softkeys, etc. It'll even automatically switch to 3G mode when sending a MMS message (only ROM i know if that does that BTW). The only problems I've heard (but never actually experienced) has been it running slowly in some installations but running the DeSensed version will take care of that.

That's odd, for me the WiFi was why I left cm7. My girlfriend was out of state for a couple months a while back so we would chat through gtalk throughout the day, every day. When I flashed cm7 everything seemed awesome, but then I noticed that my WIFI would lose connection with gtalk many times a day. I had to check gtalk constantly all day long to see if I had lost connection with it or not, and had missed many messages throughout the day (a couple hours old at times and man would she get pissed). I dont know if its cm7s WIFI management or what it was but i got tired of it. So I started using andbonestock and good ole gb, with the 'best WIFI performance' setting on and never lost a WIFI connection with gtalk after that. It could also have something to do with my WIFI in my house though, as most the time the performance of it pretty much blows.
i like "TSM UKB II 1.3.1 (sense4 ics)" best overall so far.

Weird. I've never had that issue. My router is in my bedroom, so I've always had a great signal. I would go back to SkyRaider or AndyBoneStock, but I really just don't like GB Sense on this phone. Not sure why, I just prefer AOSP.
For the longest time I have been running my custom vivo sense 3 port (gb of course) because of stability until I recently tried the latest miui (cdma version) built from tazz's sense ics build.
It was very stable and everything worked. Since yesterday I've been running stunner's global cm9 build and I must say it is very stable so far. 720 recording works and all. The only issue with that one is an upside down ffc. For now that is my daily driver.
I picked a pair of these phones cheap on ebay and I'm excited to see all the options for such an old phone. My question for you guys is what Rom would you recommend? One of the phones is going to my wife. She doesn't care what version she is on. For her the camera has to work as well as texting, and facebook, etc. etc. I think I saw an older gingerbread based rom that would do well for her but I can't see if their might be anything newer. As for me I'd like to get away with at least ICS so I can use google notes and I need the gps to work as it tracks my business mileage. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I was looking at Evervolv for me but the thread trailed off and I don't know if mms was ever fixed.

KitKat: MMS was never fixed on Evervolv 4 (kitkat). I gave up trying to fix it, and there has been very little activity on the legacy devices from the Evervolv team.
JellyBean: Tiny's CM10.1 was probably the best Jelly Bean build, the thread is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050930
I believe this is the most recent build: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050930
Video Camera is either mostly broken or completely dead, I don't exactly remember, but other than that it worked pretty well, I ran that ROM as my daily driver for a long time.
ICS: Most of the links for ICS builds will likely be dead by now, but there is still a build of Evervolv ICS available at the bottom of this page:
http://evervolv.com/devices/inc
I ran that one for a while too, but I don't remember anymore if it had any nagging issues. Evervolv 2.2.0 is ICS, 3.0.0 is Jelly Bean.
For your wife, Gingerbread sounds like the way to go, CyanogenMod still has some builds on their site:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=inc
GPS should work fine on whatever ROM you choose.
Awesome! I pulled out my old Dinc so that I could make it my designated business phone since I didn't want to use my personal one! The last ROM I ever installed I remember having issues with lag

Thank you so much!
For me personally, I'm still using CM7. It's been great for, well, 3 years so far. I've played with ICS, JB, KitKat and such, but the stability of CM7 is great. I've been using the stable CM 7.2 build since it dropped in 2012.
The other ROM that is decently stable is of course the stock ROM. Though the data/data fix is just about necessary for it, seems to fill up faster with Sense vs AOSP.
I still use my Inc from time to time, and in service when my daily is being repaired or being sold. Been using the iPhone recently, but always come back at some point. Have to give each a try with each release,
You will find they aren't that fast in todays terms and rich, data heavy web sites and apps. But for general usage it's still just fine. I use CM7 and Smart Launcher or Launcher Pro, stock apps like Maps, Gmail, SMS, etc all work great. Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Dropbox, Evernote are also good to go. So it's still capable. Just take note the batteries are old if they haven't been replaced, and weren't ever very good to begin with.
Cheers!
