> i go into rom manager app
> install from sd card
> choose cyanogenmod 7.2 or runnydroid 5
> i click all options to create backup and wipe disk
> (takes me to cwm recovery)
> it begins to create backup, erase files, write rom
> says rom has been successfully installed, need to reboot
> when it reboots the phone it gets stuck at the HTC screen. (ive let it sit for hours)
it never completes the reboot
what am i doing wrong, and how can i fix it.
thanks- christian
You need to flash the boot.img with fastboot if you only have htcdev unlock. Extract the boot.img from your ROM zip into the platform-tools folder of the sdk (if you don't have the sdk installed, Google android sdk). In a command prompt (assuming you're using windows) navigate to the platform tools folder of the sdk, plug in your phone with a USB cable, boot into the bootloader and use the
command "fastboot flash boot boot.img" in the command prompt and you're good to go.

I just did this method recently. I learned when I install the rom with recovery let in install but don't reboot leave it in recovery and hook up usb and adb reboot bootloader flash boot.img and reboot. Rom then loaded for me.

Just flash it. If you notice a difference, keep it. If there is no difference, go back to another radio.
There is a few guides that show you step by step how to do it. It's not difficult at all.
ive looked at many tuts and have had no success.
i get the PG32IMG.zip (which has 2 files: android-info.txt & radio.img)
heres the tut i was looking at rootzwiki's tut: [RADIO] HTC Incredible 2 Radios [PG32IMG.zip]

I think because you are s-on you can't flash a radio.
You need to get s-off.
Run revolutionary to do that.
i am not hboot 97 im 98
ive tried to downgrade to 2.3.3 and it always takes me to 2.3.4
You have to relock via HTC first then downgrade

The kit found here [Tool] Downgrade VivoW with hboot 0.98 has everything you need.
Including the GB2.3.3 .zip which is flashable through fastboot.
relocked the bootloader ran hack-vivow as admin and got an error when installing

So I did the HTC Dev site unlock method that was just released on my 2.3.4 incredible thinking that unrevoked or some other method wouldn't work on the latest OTA. In the process of doing that it updated (by RUU) the hboot to 1.02.0000 . My phone is unlocked but I would just like to root it now. Would I just need to manually root it by adb commands ?

You should be able to just flash clockwork recovery thru hboot as a PB31IMG.zip http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/CWM_5.0.2.0/PB31IMG.zip.
And then flash the su binary thru recovery. http://dinc.does-it.net/SuperUser/SuperUser_3.0.7.zip.
Then you should be fully rooted. Just download Busybox and install it and your good to go.
That should work. I have never done or had any experience yet with the HTC Unlock, but it should give you the same abilities that the unrevoked s-off would.
I used the HTC unlock method with a bricked dinc with s-on I had laying around. This didn't fix my problem but I still could play with hboot/fastboot. I'm far from a pro but It doesn't give you true s-off. Says *unlocked* at the top of the bootloader but stil says s-on below it. Tried to run a recovery from hboot and didn't take. Main version older it said I believe. Fastboot flash recovery seemed to take but can't boot to anything to confirm.

That sucks. Whats the point of unlocking some things but not others. They know exactly what we want, why cant they just give it to us. I wonder if it being "unlocked" would somehow make it easier to downgrade, so that unrevoked could be used to get tru s-off?
Yeah it does the same thing to me when I try to flash CWM recovery. It just says " main version older! " and has the option of volume down to do nothing or volume up to reboot.
Well, I was curious, so I flashed the RUU for HBOOT, and went ahead and "Unlocked" it, however I was already S-OFF from Unrevoked. So I can still downgrade to an older HBOOT or even use the 2.2 RUU. I'm not sure what the point of it being "Unlocked" is if it isn't actually S-OFF.
The HBOOT update didn't touch my recovery, so CWM stayed put. It does wipe data though, but I just restored the data in recovery for CM7.

I think HBOOT may be telling you that the main version is older, is because in the PB31IMG for CWM it still has the froyo recovery info. I wonder if changing it to the latest version in the info would allow it to flash? Idk, just throwing ideas around.
However HTC's Site says that you can still change everything but the radio.
Why is my security still on (S-On) after I have unlocked my bootloader?
Your device is shipped with Security on (S-ON) to protect your system software configuration (such as the bootloader, radio, boot, recovery, system and others). After you have unlocked the bootloader, however, you will have lifted the restrictions on boot, recovery and system. This means you can customize boot, recovery and system images on your phone as you desire. You can easily see that you have successfully unlocked the bootloader by looking at the top of the screen when entering the bootloader screen. Security is left on to protect things like the radio, and SIM lock.

Too bad HTC can't just make their own custom recovery, like CWM, and bundle it with the unlock tool.

I recently started the root process by unlocking my bootloader utilizing the HTCDev Method with S-On (HBOOT- 2.18.0001). Now I'm unlocked! The next step (I guess) is to flash a custom recovery which I'm having difficulty doing. Granted, there are several ways to install a custom recovery. I utilized two of those ways, 1) Through Bootloader and 2) via ROM Manager; both have proved unsuccessful for me.
Is the reason why I can't flash a custom recovery is because I'm not fully rooted? According to this page one on this thread if my S is On then I'm not considered rooted. The HTCDev Method only unlocks the bootloader leaving the S-On.
Am on the right path (now that my bootloader is unlocked) to flash a custom recovery? If so, why am I having trouble flashing a custom
recovery?

Wrong thread, but you need to find and fastboot flash the correct cwm recovery img for your phone. From there you can flash roms or procede to downgrade and get s-off.
After looking around the web & trying a few things out myself I am left stuck and in need of help.
I would like to get a o2 UK (32GB Tegra3) HTC One X back to Stock everything (on Jelly Bean)
My friend has given me her old HOX that will not load past the ‘HTC Quietly Brilliant’ screen.
She had unlocked the bootloader via HTCDev & installed ClowckWorkMod Recovery (5.8.4.0). It was working fine.
When getting the phone, I did not know much about rooting. My own HOX is all stock. I wanted to update the handset to Jelly Bean. In recovery I clicked format cache, data, sdcard, system & cleared some dalvik cache to remove everything; this is what probably messed things up.
Right now, I am still stuck at the ‘HTC Quietly Brilliant’ screen. ClockWorkMod Recovery has been removed.
I have tried reverting to the stock recovery. This is what I got:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
When loading the phone into the bootloader I get the following message:
If I click recovery I get this:
After a few secs, it changes to this:
I click FASTBOOT and plug in the USB to my PC. I hear the noise to say something is connected. Clicking on My Computer does not display anything. In Device Manager I see this:
Below are all the details I would imagine anyone needs to figure out what is wrong?

Its now working and currently updating.
Before you had posted, I managed to put ClockWorkMod Recovery back on.

You can't run a ruu on a s-on device from a different region. You can only go back to stock with a nand backup.
Check the general section - collection of stock backups thread if there is one available for you !

I don't believe there is one available, I too am in the same position with no NAND and there is no RUU for 1.36 :/
Edit :
There is no 2.17 available, only a 1.29 and in theory that would work too but the account is generated to much traffic so the link is not active !
Maybe in a few days it's back up

Hi all,
I had until 3h ago sabsa prime v16 installed on my phone - when I was reading e-mails in yahoo mail app the screen became black (with no illumination - like the phone was turned off), the only way to unfreeze and restore it was to remove the battery - the phone was completely blocked.
I decided to change the rom, and install viper rom.
In the recovery (CWM 5.0.2.0) i choose "wipe data/factory reset", when al the process finishes i get this errors:
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
And when I try to install the other rom the process of installation does not finish...
I read on other threads that if I get this message maybe some chip is broken (fried?), that because I removed the battery when the phone was freezed (but if it was not responding what can I do???)...
How can I fix this?
Plz help..
Thanks to all
ps. sorry for bad english

ok, that is hboot. Choose recovery and see if you still have CWM recovery installed. If you have try flashing a new rom...and see what happens...not the ones that you already tried but a different one.
Try a stable ROM, like Revolution HD 6.6. Other might work as well, but if you try a rom based on the original drivers+a decent kernel you should be fine if the hardware is still ok.

As long as hardware is fine, he can flash whatever he wants, stable or not...the main concern is to find whether his emmc chip is fried or not.
I tried to install another rom (Jellytime and moonraker), the same result, the installation process stops at ca. 70%.
Aroma installer (for sabsa and viper) says that the installation is complete, but in fact it is not.
My question: is it possible to flash the stock rom without the phone turned on? I mean directly from the bootloader..
I downloaded this file: RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed that seems to be the latest stock rom..
second question: Exists a procedure to follow like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33917375 but for my phone, or not?
Thanks to all for the answers!

you are already S-OFF, so what are you trying to do exactly? Are you sure that your bootloader is unlocked? It is useless to unlock it being S-OFF.
I'm trying to relock it,
i understood from your post

Hi all,
I re-open this td because my phone is still broken... (yes, after 3 months :angel - i had no time to think to repair it... and in this period I used my old Nokia N95 8GB...
I am in this situation now:
I have this bootloader:
ACT PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.00.0027
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.04.28_M
eMMC-boot
Sep 7 2011, 19:06:24
I don't have any recovery installed,
when I tried to install the original ruu, I don't know what happened but at some point (50-55%) it skipped very quickly to 80%. My impression is that the utility can't write some files on the internal memory of the Dhd...
I tried to install CWM recovery using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179386 but I cannot complete all the passages because the phone don't recognize the PG05IMG.zip file.
If I try to turn on normally (without booting into bootloader) the phone remains stuck with HTC logo, and restarts (boot loop) - like I said before, I am not completely sure that the ROM is fully installed.
What can I do at this point?
The phone is out of warranty, and I think that if I send it to HTC to repair will cost very much money... no sense with a 3 year-old phone...
That recovery is for a htc thunderbolt and I don't think it is a good idea to put that on your htc desire hd. Fyi the corret file name is PD98IMG.ZIP.

With UNLOCKED bootloader you cann't do anything
Let's LOCKED bootloader again then flash RUU to return stock (optional), then use newest Ace Hack Kit to S-Off your phone.
Some phone have difficulty to use AAHK directly, so you might be need to make sdcard as gold card first then copy PD98IMG.zip for your branch to sdcard before using AAHK

What are the reasons of brick phone ?
I've read thru all post before reply
My experience are:
My phone is 2.3.5 Sense 3.5 version 3.17.0010...hboot 2.0.0030
- First time of using AAHK to S-Off failed many times, then I choose method of Unlock bootloader by htcdev to flash custom rom
- Someday, I need change the flash splash screen, radio and kernel then I find that I need to get S-Off to do so
=> I relocked bootloader also by inverse method of htcdev then flash RUU rom agian back to original, then use AAHK. This time, It success-S-off. that's all
PS: I think that it is not mesh hboot
He cann't install RUU rom because he hasn't found correct RUU for his branch phone.
eg: My case, my phone from CID: 01__KT (KTF Korea) so I have to find my RUU for KT
In his case I don't know ...He must have to find correct RUU so can be install after RELOCK bootloader

Then You didn't Read Well. He flashed a froyo Ruu And messed his bootloader. Flashing a ruu will definitely Make things worse. Hack kit will fail as the bootloader Is in super Slow motion, not To mention that hack kit has been retired And so has support
I think my problem is about missed or double HBOOT
Also I have high speed internet and I can download and flash any RUU
I have this RUU: RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_R_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_233505_signed
but when I relocked and installed this RUU, I get error 140(Bootloader version error)
After it I make goldcard , then exclude rom.zip from this RUU, rename it to PD98IMG.zip, but after checking it in bootloader nothing occurred
and it didn't ask me press vol down to install PD98IMG.zip
now which RUU I should download and install?
this is my fastboot getvar all

There is something weird about your issue. The bootloader doesn't seem to be a froyo one, however corruption of the bootloader occurs when flashing a froyo ruu. I would recommend that you contact the developer of the tool to see how it works because I have no clue on what it does and how.
If you want to try to downgrade the main and then try the hboot fix, you will need some knowlegde of adb commands. Just let me know and I will address you in the right direction. I gotta look for the information first.

in fact I had hboot 2.00.0027 ,Android 2.3.5 and sense 3.0
when I want to unlock with htcdev , it suggest me upgrade hboot and give me a link to PD9810000_Ace_Sense30_S_hboot_2.00.0029.exe and I install it
then I had 2.00.0029 hboot
after that I flashed ViperDHD_v2.2.0.zip, but phone stuck at splash screen, I flash stock boot.img via fastboot and again it stuck at splash screen
then I format everything and install DHD_WWE_3.12.405.1_STOCK_rooted_by_nitr00.zip but it stuck at splash screen again, during that phone stuck at Splash screen I searched from for s-off because I did my Evo 3D s-off and I cn install every rom and kernel on it
Suddenly I heard htc-boot-sound and phone went into bootanimation and start OS
then I use Easy s-off and it messaged me that my bootloader is corrupred
Its funny because I used this exact tool to s-off my completely stock DHD, I didn't even have radio s-off, does PD98IMG files not work either?

Well, if you have just kept the unlocked bootloader you wouldn't be regreting it now...S-OFF it is not necessary for most of the customization tasks.
It seems that your bootloader was not overwriten but got corrupted before somehow. This is the first time that I see that a 0029 hhboot version is corrupted and your main is even 3.13.x, I guess that you need to do some extra work and that will risk your device in every step you run.
If it is ok with you we can arrange something over teamviewer and I will lend you a hand...do not promise anything thou..
Hi, I want to upgrade my HTC Desire with android 2.2.2 to 2.3.3 but it is currently rooted.
I will use the official package by HTC "RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe"
I'm able to use the Android Debugging Bridge so do I still need to install HTC Sync for this?

Alright, Then next problem.
I successfully installed the rom, But now it tends to crash sometimes (when going out of the lock screen) it crashes and volume down, trackball + power won't reboot it.
Anyway to fix this?
Oh and it isn't longer rooted. The bootloader recovery mode gives a red triangle, (holding volume button up and power) brings me to the stock recovery.
What to do. :S
