I'm running FE22, however this problem was noticed in several ICS builds.
I'm trying to use the Google Voice App for all my texting/voicemails. I'm using the "use your google voice number..." option in the integration, as I had my google voice number set up prior to moving to Sprint.
Google voice is not notifying me of new voicemails or text messages. The online webpage (as well as the Google Voice plugin for Chrome) see the messages right away.
I've checked every and all "notification" type options on the phone. If I enable the "send text messages to phone" and "send text message when I have a voicemail" I get notified via the text messaging app, however that's not what I want. It should notify me in the status bar and play a sound when a new text message/voicemail comes in WITHOUT sending it to the native text messaging app. I swear it used to do this in GB, but I can't be sure if it was on my old Verizon phone, or this phone.

If you go into the Gvoice app - is it set to sync background data?
I've run a few ICS roms and haven't had this problem.
Maybe try clearing the data on that app or uninstalling/reinstalling fresh?
If you are using a battery saver app that disables mobile data or background data, like Juice Defender, then Google Voice will not receive updates while data is disabled. No updates to the GV app, then no notifications.

try this. Open Google Voice App, Menu, Settings, Sign Out. Now, when trying to sign back in, it asks if you want to "Skip" or go "Next". This is asking if you want to integrate the "special Sprint+GoogleVoice" application. Apparently Sprint and GoogleVoice have partnered up. So click SKIP not NEXT. Skipping will allow you to go about Google Voice in the NORMAL SET UP.
I was having trouble making phone calls with my Google Voice number. I experimented and realized that this Sprint integration was the culprit.
Let me know if this solves the issue
So it's fixed now. I'm not 100% sure what did it, but I think it was the option "Voicemail display". I had it checked at one point, and it seem to start working after I unchecked it.
However, prior to this, I had also completely wiped my phone (deleted everything on the internal SD card) and flashed the latest FE22 build.
disable the "Voicemail display - view and play voicemails from the phone call log"
An update for anyone experiencing this and puzzled as to what fixes it. Of course this could have far more variables in play but the setting that enabled the Google Voice voicemail notifications to work was disabling the "Voicemail display - view and play voicemails from the phone call log" option under Google Voice settings. I am running GA10 (JB 4.1.2).

I'm trying to enable Google Voice to be used for voicemail on my phone.. but I'm having lots of issues.
I'm running the CM6 Nightly (update every day or two) and have no Sprint apps left on the phone. I Installed/updated the Google Voice app on my phone, activated my Voice account for voicemail online, and called the number that it told me to call.
I am getting an error "Unfortunately your network carrier is currently not supported..." when trying to configure my voicemail for Google Voice.
Not sure where to go from here.
At the moment the only way I can access my email is by calling my number the old fashioned way.. I also get like 4 text notifications for every voicemail. I'm not sure why I get so many?
Thanks for any help.
You can ignore that setting. All it's really telling you is that GVoice can't automatically change your voicemail settings without calling a special number. As for the texts, go to your GVoice page on a computer, Settings, Voicemail, and un-check the Voicemail Notification texts.
I've searched the forums for a while now and I'm not really finding the answer to my question.
Once it became available I did the whole 'Google Voice Enabled' to my number so everything will go to my google voice number. Everything is working fine except texting.
The main reason why I 'enabled' is so I wouldn't have to deal with two numbers (for SMS and MMS) and so I can use the regular texting app. In the app AND within the Google Voice website I have 'notify through text' option checked. Everything works fine but out of the blue it will up and stop working and NOTHING I can do will make it start again (even though at random times it'll start working again).
I hate the Voice app and had to uninstall it because, once again, no matter what I would do it wouldn't stop notifying me through the voice app AND the stock/handcent app.
Am I doing something wrong or is this something extremely frustrating happening to others?
Recap: I want to use my Google Voice number, no problems with the phone itself, no signal problems. Thanks!
Open google voice push menu then setings then sync and notifications. Then uncheck notifications via text message. After you do that you will get your notifications only through google voice unless its a multimedia message then its sent too the stock msg app
I'm going to Afghanistan on saturday the 4th and i'm trying to get my phone setup for calls and txt's while overseas. The call part is done and now just trying to get my txts to work right.
I have sprint, so my GV number is the same as my sprint number. In GV notification settings, there's 2 options for receiving txts. (see attached screen shots)
1. Only via the google voice app
2. Also via the messaging app
When #2 is selected it grays out the GV text notification so GV doesn't show a txt notification in the status bar.
I would assume that when #2 is selected any txt sent to my number should appear in my regular messaging app, right? But it doesn't, it only appears in the GV app regardless if #1 or #2 are selected.
Has anyone else on sprint ran into this issue or know how to fix it? I'd really like to use my APW widget for txt's instead of the GV app.
Thanks!
Id just uninstall the GV app, although I do use google voice (online as a backup) the app is horrible. Just make sure texting is sent/fowarded to your phone after you uninstall.

I "thought" I needed the GV app to use GrooveIP.. I just froze the GV app and I was still able to make Wifi calls via GrooveIP.
**Edit #1: When I uninstall google voice I can't get a text on my phone at all now. It shows up in my google voice inbox using the web browser but never gets forwarded to my phone like it's supposed to in the settings.
See attached pic for a screen shot of the google voice settings.
**Edit #2: SMS appear in the GV inbox but MMS appear in the messaging app with Airplane mode OFF and Wifi ON. If I turn Airplane mode ON and Wifi ON I can only receive sms in the GV app but no MMS at all.
I think I see what's going on here, correct me if i'm wrong.
By choosing to receive text messages via the messaging app in the GV app settings, it also checks the "Receive text messages on this phone" option on the GV website.
When I choose the first option in the GV app to receive text messages via the GV app, it syncs with the GV website and un-checks the "Receive text messages on this phone" option.
There for, because my Sprint number AND my google voice number are in fact the SAME number, it won't forward anything to my messaging app because there's not a 2nd number to forward it to.
Does that sound accurate?
One of the first things I tried to do with Jellybean was to send a text message by saying "send text to contact_name message message_text." Doing this prompts me to select either sms or google voice. Since I blocked SMS on my number and rely on google voice, I tried that. The little block that showed the contact and the message goes away and leaves a big empty space afterward, and below that regular google web search results are shown below it. If I chose to send it via normal SMS it goes through, then I get a notification that SMS messages are blocked for this number.
Can anyone successfully send google voice sms messages using voice commands??

It's obvious that Google Voice is not updated to work with Jelly Bean yet. I'm sure they will update it soon! I too am waiting for this!!
I can confirm the same behavior. Annoying.
I tried https://plus.google.com/+MatthewGarbett/posts/YyFVaTQrPmi this. The (Google) Voice app main screen does not have an SMS write icon, if I click on a transcript the SMS write icon redirects into Hangouts. Hangouts SMS says "send SMS to +1 234 567 8901 from my carrier number". I do not have a carrier number, the tablet is wifi only, I would like to use use my Google Voice number. Mind you, https://www.google.com/voice/b/0#inbox doesn't offer anything but a Call button.
In hangouts if I click my avatar then a mysterious account appears that wasn't there before I added the two xposed modules: the account is called SMS .
In Hangout if I open my Google Account there's a confirm phone number but if I enter my phone number then it goes "confirming phone number" and stays like that.

I'm not sure I follow.
You're using the stock Google Voice app and can't send regular texts on the Nexus 7 2013?
On mine I just click the little pen/paper icon up top, and tell it who to send it to, then type away. There's not hack needed.
In your google voice settings, is the account setup correctly with your google voice number showing up? Do you re-direct via another phone number? I have it re-direct to my phone as well, but it sends the message via wifi, so that way I get responses on both my phone and in google voice, but that shouldn't be necessary.
I'm afraid I don't use Hangouts, so I can't comment on why it's directing you there, but that seems very odd and backwards.
It sounds like your account is setup screwy. Maybe uninstall google voice, and go to the actual google voice site, and see what's linked to it, and start from scratch, and then re-install the app? There shouldn't need to be any special tricks to use it over wifi. Only calling via wifi on a mobile device requires a 3rd party app. Sadly, no MMS though.
I think the problem is that you need a US number to verify your Google voice. I will be down there next week, I will check.
