[Q]What are some media streaming apps besides Subsonic and Audio Galaxy?

Hello again, friends. I have used both Audio Galaxy and Subsonic and both are missing key features the other one has. Subsonic allows me to share my music with my other android toting friends but audio galaxy doesn't skip during streaming (I tried everything, Subsonic just won't stop skipping).
So, are there any other ones that are any good? I'd like something that I can share with people but doesn't glitch out when I put more than one song on a playlist.
Thank you!
I use vlc stream and convert. Highly customizable and with the way I set it up I can stream movies and music anywhere I have a decent 3g connection. Plays basically everything but I have some issues with some mkv's I have. For music its great.
However, anyone connected to it can browse your entire PC. Don't know how to change it
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Need specific music app

Need a media player app, that i can remote control from a laptop. Ie, my phone is hooked up to a sound system, and i wanna be able to change tracks etc from a laptop on the same wifi network, and even better via the net if they are on different networks.
Any ideas?
maybe playon media server will work , it works for movies and music

Music app and nearby devices question

I have a Western Digital My Cloud hard drive that I have a collection of about 52,000 songs stored on. When I go into the music app and select nearby devices, it only displays the first 50 songs. I also have a Note 4 with the same issue. Is this some sort of limitation?
What are good alternatives for streaming and managing a large collection such as mine?
Are you using the built in Twonky server on your WD cloud drive?
It may be a limitation there or a bug. If you are you can try letting Twonky rebuild the database. I have a MyPassport Wireless which has a newer version of Twonky and it sees the 187 MP3s I have....

Seems to be working now... I had to rebuild the DLNA database. Hang on... stopped at 2638 tracks lol... I'm guessing it's a database thing... Does yours load all 187 tracks every time you select the location or is it stored and updated? 50,000 songs takes quite a while to fully load lol. But I wonder if I just have to deal with that?
UPDATE: After several hours I went back into the app and had to reload the mycloud location, and it did the first 50 tracks again

Well to tell you the truth, I don't even use the WD DLNA Twonky server. I just turned it on to see what would happen so I could tell you about my results. I don't like Twonky. I use XBMC, now known as Kodi, for all my media. Much more reliable and does a very good job randomizing playback. I have about 40,000 MP3s on WD My Book Live. But what I do is just make a Music folder for XBMC to use and copy a few hundred to it. When I get tired of those I'll change them out.

Google Play Music Will Only Play Downloaded Playlists, Won't Stream

I've got a JY-UQ124 = RK3188 Quad Core, 16 GB Flash, 1024*600 Screen and have a rather odd problem. When on my home wifi, Google Play Music on my head unit behaves normally and allows me to see and play music via streaming (I have All Access) or playlists that I've downloaded. When I am tethered to my phone (Nexus 6P, T-Mobile), Google Play Music only allows me to play downloaded playlists and will no longer stream music. All radio stations/playlists that aren't downloaded are grayed out. Has anyone had that (really weird) issue? I'm in the USA with Google Play Music All Access.
I'm on a Nexus 6P w/ T-Mobile as well, and I don't have any problems streaming music via tethering.
Does your unit actually have an internet connection when tethered? IE, are you able to access websites via Chrome or Google play, etc? It sounds like for whatever reason your device isn't getting a web connection when tethered.
Update: I actually experienced this problem today. Head unit connected to the internet via tether (confirmed with web browser and other apps), but Google Play Music acting like it's in "Downloaded Only" mode and only allowing playback of cached songs. Reinstalling the Google Play Music app fixed the problem.
I had a similar issue on my head unit. Despite being connected via WiFi shared from my phone I had to turn off "Stream only on Wifi" for it to work.

Cast Apple Music on Chromecast

I have successfully linked my MacPro to my home stereo through the Chromecast audio puck I just bought. But now I want to play the Apple Music from my iTunes library. I know Apple Music is not in the support list of Chromecast audio. Why doesn’t Apple accept Chromecast? Since I don't want to give up Apple Music, I got a method from Google. Is it legal to convert the Apple Music for personal use?
Try this way!
Apple Music is protected by DRM which you can't cast on your Chromecast directly. In order to make your Apple Music castable on your Chromecast, you may need to convert your Apple Music so that you can cast Apple Music on Chromecast, here, you can try TuneFab Apple Music Converter, which easy to operate.
How i Stream Apple Music to Chromecast
I bet we all know that we can download Apple Music songs on devices for offline listening. But we can't add the downloaded music to non apple software for playing. Chromecast or Chromecast Audio won't have the chance either. Because Apple Music songs are DRM protected audio file.
If we remove the DRM and convert Apple Music songs to normal audio file, say MP3, then we can easily play them on your Mac or Windows PC and cast them to Chromecast/Chromecast Audio.
Or be smarter, we upload our favoriate Apple Music songs from our Mac and Windows PC to Google Play library[/URL] (in cloud) and then stream them using Google Music app which has support for Chromecast/Chromecast audio on any device we have. Because, yes, we can download Google Play Music app on iOS devices as well!
Just follow the steps below to convert Apple Music to upload and steam them using Google Play Music app.
