[RESOLVED] I am on CM9. I'm having an issue with my 3G. I have an MMS message that I need to receive. My 3G Data & 4G Data are both on. I need to flash a ROM that will cause no data loss... so I can keep my apps and text messages and update PRL & Profile on CM9.
I am looking for a way to install CWM on my phone without using a different kernal...
Also, how do I tell what kernel I'm on?

My issue is that I need to update my PRL.... I fixed the mms issue its just my PRL...
I won't have access to a computer for a long time.
Is there any way that I can do this completely mobile?

Did you read that thread?
"This is a temporary ROM that boots Samsung's Gingerbread EL29 firmware entirely from emmc without making any changes to the ROM currently installed on your phone. When you reboot, you return to recovery where you can re-flash the ROM to return to CM9. This temporary ROM is useful for several purposes.
Update Profile.
Update PRL.
Sprint Activation.
Dial codes and diagnostic mode.
This should be helpful to users of any AOSP-based ROM including CM9, AOKP, etc"
Directions here too http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/2012/05/temporary-stock-e4gt-from-emmc.html
Using mobile Odin you should be able to boot into the recovery, boot the temp stock el29, update the prl and profile. reboot into recovery and then flash your original kernel. Then boot back to your system with it working.
I figured it out.
My problem is that when I boot up it goes to CWM and never goes to the GB EL29 ROM... I thought I was missing a file. Any help?

I just installed Synergy RC1 and had been running CM7. I just tried to update profile and prl because since I have been using asop for 7 months I haven't updated anything but I get error 1012 could not be completed when trying to update either profile or prl. My signal has been weaker in last couple weeks so I decided to try sense rom so I could update. Whats the easiest way to update? Any help for a noob? Thanks Again!
That's the only way I know of, I think there may be flashable versions of the probably. Maybe try flashing a stock rooted rom and try to update
We're comin from a pure power source.
You know, a really good idea is to run the RUU on your phone, restore it to stock, root it, flash recovery and do a nandroid, so you have a stock, rooted nandroid you can flash back to whenever you need to update your PRL, etc.....
Good call on that
We're comin from a pure power source.
I do have a stock backup but was trying to avoid restoring and thats one of the reasons I came back to Sense so I could update. Are most people able to update their profile and prl while running Synergy RC1? Maybe it's a server issue in my area I'll try again later and if no go I'll restore stok rom. Are you able to update while using sense roms? Thanks Again!
As I recall that ROM supports all the EPST codes. Can you not do a ##775# in the dialer and enter your MSL? Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you could update PRL that way...

I and a couple of friends cannot do updates with synergy. As the post above mention...do a backup of stock rooted..I use sprint lovers...restore and update then restore synergy back. No more time than to drink a cup of coffee...
I was able to perform the PRL and PRI updates after rebooting into recovery (AmonRA) and clearing Cache and Dalvik again. Also, make sure you're using wireless network, not WIFI. Also, this was addressed in the Synergy threads.

Just did what you told...no dice....are you using rc1 or a nightly?
It works with MikG 2.2 Sense 2.1 ROM. Great ROM by the way
Make sure you are not Roaming when you update Profile or PRL.
I had this problem the first time I flashed synergy. I ended up rewiping everything 3 times, then used format all 3 times, partitioned sd card to ext3 then flashed rom along with the carousel and widget zip. Rom now works flawlessly and updates work fine!
This worked for me too, thankfully, just got everything set up like I want and its running great didnt want to have to wipe and reflash. (until my new sd card gets here and I can do a backup - out of space on my current card )
If you guys are having trouble on synergy, go into ##3282# choose edit then enter you msl. Goto data profile, and hit menu, then restore, then commit changes, then reboot. Worked for me every time!

So I did this, and then it after reboot it tried to do hands free OTA, failed, and left me without data connection. In phone update, I still recieved 1012 error on both profile and prl under both wifi on and wifi off.
I'm at present doing a nand restore.
So after nand restore, hard reboot, cache and dalvik wipe and reboot, error still occurs. I now have no 3g service. Anyone have any idea how to fix this sans calling sprint?

I ran into this issue when attempting to update my profile and it was due to the fact that I was hooked up to my WIFI. Once I disabled my WIFI, I ran the update profile and it took less then a minute to complete.
As for the prl, I switched over to amon-ra because clockwork gave me problems. Hopefully this helps you out. Don't forget to hit the Thanks button.

I flashed to cm-10.1-20130403-NIGHTLY-d2spr and everything was working fine. I was able to make phone calls, apps worked, no errors etc. I was using Titanium backup to bring back some of the apps and accidently chose one of my batch restores that had system data in it. I noticed it shortly into the backup and stopped it. It caused some media process errors and I thought I would just clear cache etc and reflash with the ROM again.
The rom loaded and now it tells me to activate my phone. I hit activate and obviously its not activating my phone. I don't have a restore in nandroid or in titanium based on this rom I can use. My last titanium backup was from the rooted jelly bean 4.1.2. This version of 10.1 is android 4.2.2. I have googled and read for hours but not 100% sure what to do. If I go into the Status of the Phone within CyanogenMod 10.1 I can see that it says mobile network disconnected, my phone number 000-000-4327,
I can connect to the apps and wifi but can't get to the mobile network.
What are my options?
Do I unroot and reload stock ROM from sprint? Then call an activate and reset counter?
Do I try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25470797?
Do I call sprint and try a manual activation?
Can I got to another ROM and get cell service back?
First, remove all the #s in your post but prl. Could cause you problems with people stealing your info. Second, reflash your rom and see if that fixes it, if not, flash a stock rom and force reactivation through the dialer (there's a ## code to do it)
Thanks

Go to freezas thread and download the "mb1 stock rooted" rom. Then flash it and see if you have mobile, if not look up the ## code to reactivate (you need to be on wifi though)
I've had this and solved
Posted steps, will find link. Meanwhile you will need msl and stock or tw ROM.
Give me a few and I'll find link.

You will have to contact sprint if you dont have your msl, and min.
Shouldnt give you any issues, i even admitted i had screwed it up.
Thanks
There are quite a few threads. Sorry I need a little hand holding. Don't want to do the wrong one. Then I just move the zip to the phone in the sdcard. Boot into CWM then install zip and restart?

I used the middle one you posted. Just put on SD and flash.
The one that says "firmware" is not a rom, its the radio/modem for that build. You can flash any of the others, if it ever has "odex" or "deodex" on it, then its a rom

Yup, that's fine, try the steps listed in the thread linked above
Also, you don't need to call sprint to get your msl, there's a guide in the General subforum for how to get it if you'd rather them not know what you're doing with your phone
EDIT
Here's how to activate (you have to be on wifi)
jazz995756 said:
Be sure your on a touch wiz ROM and do hands free activation. To do that simply dial ##72786# and wait for your phone to reboot. Upon boot unlock your screen and DONT touch your phone it will do an activation and do your latest prl and profile and your phone will reboot again. Let it finish booting and unlock your phone again and wait for a screen to say activation has been successfull and that should fix it.

My 10+ hour ordeal is over. Thank you so much for your help. I flashed the one I mentioned above and I followed the normal setup and restored the PRL etc and I can make phone calls... It is just so hard to find information with all the different carriers, different versions, different ROMS, etc... Much appreciated. Didn't have to call sprint or anything.
Now I got to figure out how to get rid of the 5 - 0 folders Cyanogenmod created with all the same stuff on the internal card
Hi all,
I did this before on the E4GT, but not yet on the Galaxy S III (I don't think). I am looking for a write-up with links to files for temporarily flash stock TW ROM just for Profile/PRL updates and then going back to CM10.1.
If I remember correctly, in Mobile Odin, I flashed a CWM DirectBoot kernel, which on reboot took me into a recovery where I flashed a specific TW ROM. I did my thing and on reboot, was back in recovery where I flashed my latest CM10.1 nightly. What was great was when I returned to CM10, it was just as I left it.
Any pointers?
BTW- If there's an easier way to manually update PRL I am open to that too. However the Diag Script reportedly doesn't work on 3.4 kernels, which is what the CM10.1 nightlies are on.
Thanks!
You are correct. At least that's what I do when I want to update the PRL.
Using CWM or TWRP, make a backup of your ASOP ROM.
Next restore TW ROM and update PRL.
Then with whatever app, reboot back into recovery and restore your ASOP ROM.
You can *try* this, not sure if it's fully functional yet though

Well, the PRL Manager "appeared" to be working, but it did nothing. I am guessing this is because this app is made for the E4GT.
Hi, I am sending my HTC One in for service, so reactivated my Sprint Epic 4G. It is running CM 10.1 (10.1.3.1). To get data working, I need to update the profile. Any way to do that in CM?
If not, what ROM do I need to flash that supports updating the profile?
Other than rooting the phone and installing CM10.1, I have no messed with other settings. It should still be stock radio/whatever else people mess with. Voice works fine.
Just reflash any stock firmwares, update the profiles and flash back to CM again. Alternatively, there seems to be a multiboot solution that lets you temporaily boot a stock firmware from SD card, though I'm not sure if it works with your ROM...

Thanks. I think I need to ODIN back to stock right, as CM10.1 uses different partitioning? (Might not be the correct word)

You on CM10.1? Good thing - if you have a flashable stock zip, just flashing it will revert the partition layout.

Put this Samsung FC09 installation onto your SD card to temporarily boot into and perform PRL/Profile update functions.
Thanks
So. Entirely new to the all of this. I've managed to get OctOS running on my SPH-L710T, I'm running TWRP custom recovery, and that's all very nice. The problem I'm having is that I'm only getting basic cellular and 3G service. I'm completely unable to connect to any sort of LTE. My google-fu has gotten me as far as:
-I need to flash a different modem because oh boy tri-band
-That modem might be ND8 or NDC, and I can get ahold of those with a quick search.
-I Can easily brick my phone if I don't do this right.
I'm uncertain of what to do with this. I don't know which recovery I should use to odin in the modem. Do I flash the modem first, then reinstall OctOs? Are there other things I need to do? Are either of these even the right modem?
Any and all help would be super appreciated. And remember, I'm a total n00b with this stuff so... be gentle?
Nope the t has nf4, oh1 modems

Okay, so is there a way to flash in nf4/oh1 firmware without going back to full on stock? Feel like it kinda defeats the entire point of the project otherwise.
But again, I'm new to all this.
There is a stock rom for the DataDoneRight? If so I may give it a try, VM support asked me to do a PRL update and I can't so now I have no service at all.
Warning: There is NO working StockROM for the Data Done Right Virgin Mobile Triband using the OH1 baseband. If you flash any rom with any other modem, your doomed.
I luckily made a backup of my Tri-Band OH1 Modem for this rare phone. Here it is for anyone else that needs it:
http://d-h.st/O2Yo
Flashing Oct-L + This modem I managed to get rid of the "No Sim Card" error that occured when flashing other roms.
(Note: This will only get your 3G service back due to OcOS limitations, they do not have 4G LTE working on VMDDR)
However, I still can't get back to stock to execute data provisioning. Without it my phone can't make calls or get data. No PRL, No HiddenMenu.apk... so keep in mind if you sell that phone, or the number changes you are bricked just like me.
Epic Battle and Recovery of My Triband Phone (Required if changing phone numbers)
INCREDIBLE! :victory: The only words I have to describe my 3 week battle to recover my Virgin Mobile Data Done Right Tri-Band phone (THE CRAPPY ONE FROM WALMART). OK, if you need a PRL update and have to update "Profile" to get a new number - once again there are NO stock roms. Here's what worked for me... this is not for the faint of heart:
1) Have the d2refreshspr TWRP recovery from Oct-OS thread installed. You can flash it with heimdall.
Pro-Tip: You CANNOT flash a non-triband L710 rom from Hiemdall or Odin, so that's why we need recovery. People will say your phone has bad memory and junk, they're wrong. It fails with errors " ERROR: Failed to confirm end of file transfer sequence!" and "sw rev check fail fused 2 binary 1" respectively.
2) Wipe --> Advanced Wipe --> Check Dalvik Cache, System, Data, and Cache. Flash NDC modem for L710 Sprint. (This will completely break the SIM/modem! But allows you to boot 4.4.2 TouchWiz roms) For good measure, Reboot the recovery. (Do NOT attempt to install SuperSU if asked by TWRP, at this point as it seems to cause bootloops)
3) Flash TouchWiz based ROM: Conquest: Singularity 10 (beta 9) Full, choose Virgin Mobile as the carrier during install, and then flash the 10 (b10) Update. (Do NOT attempt to install SuperSU if asked by TWRP, at this point as it seems to cause bootloops)
4) Boot the phone it will take awhile, but it should come up. If it does, half of the battle is done.
5) Go through setup, connect to Wifi, and wait for everything to finish installing in the background.
6) Power off phone, your baseband is completely shot. Boot back into TWRP recovery.
7) Flash OH1 Modem, and then flash Universal_vmu_ApnFix-v.R2.zip
.
8) Reboot. If it boots, it's a miracle. Acknowledge all errors, there will be quite a few about failing apps that don't work with your OH1 modem.
9) Make sure Wifi is on and working, there will be no data to force an OTA otherwise since our modem is still not provisioned.
10) Go to Settings --> System Update --> Update PRL. If it works awesome! Do the same for "Update Profile".
Phone will reboot.
Done! Your L710TVPU0AOH1 should now have fixed baseband and data + phone number. Good Luck!!!
From here I plan to go back to OctOS and try a few other ROMS out. No one but @moonknightus 's amazing Conquest: Singularity could have saved this phone. All props go to the man and his team of rom helpers. :good:
Can I have a copy of the OH1 modem? The server where it is hosted is offline and I need it now as I hosed my Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 Triband, installed another ROM without backing up my modem, I did a full nandroid through TWRP, but forgot to backup the modem through Partitions Backup and Restore.........
EDIT: Nevermind, I managed to resolve the issue alternatively. I downloaded the following Stock Image:
ALL_SPT_L710TVPU0ANF4_L710TSPT0ANF4_1683363_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Extracted the MODEM.bin file, then compressed it to MODEM.tar and through ODIN I flashed this file, the modem got flashed successfully, I flashed the Virgin Mobile APN fix, and voila! Modem works now.
I am stating this for others who managed to hose their Triband modem with non triband roms, there is another solution.
