No screen, please help - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Screen won't turn on at all. Tried to boot into recovery and normal boot. It started showing signs of failure last week when it looked all red tinted. Occasionally it would go out and I had to restart to get it back. This time it won't come back on.
Any help is appreciated.
Thx.

Is your LED on when you attempt to power up? It sounds pretty damaged, I imagine you tried to pull the battery for a few?

This happened to my computer this past weekend Good thing I have some ROMs and backups on my phone

Can you boot into download mode by volume down + power? Im sure youve tried, but just asking..hate it when something like this happens to anyone

Tried the volume Up + pwr and down + pwr.
When I boot I can see the status LED, as well as the 4 homescreen buttons light up. just no screen

I know it sucks but it does seem to me at least that you should be to take that to a sprint service center and get an exchange for that issue..sorry man..that really does suck and i wish i could help more

I'm guessing no sound either?

sound is good actually.

Sounds like the screen died. I agree try and take it to a service center.

from what I've come to understand, sprint doesn't have a problem with rooting and will/should not give you any problems for that. they may fuss about a custom rom if you have one, but if the screen is broken they can't really tell and that is an obvious hardware failure, not something software could have done

You could also take it apart to see if the display cable somehow simply became unattached should sprint for whatever reason refuse to service it...

Sensitive power button

My samsung galaxy s2 has sensitive power button for some reason. I'm not sure if its the roms i have been flashing. But im on IML74K_Ics_Perfection_UCLD2 and if the slightest touch on the power button turn on my phone when it is off. Or it can turn it when the phone is locked. But i can even press it all the way down for even a split second without it rebooting and going into a bootloop and taking me many tries to actually boot up. Is this a hardware problem with my phone should i restore my phone to stock and return back to tmobile or is this a ics problem with the roms?

Have you tried using any different roms? Is the issue still present? I haven't had or read about this issue before, and I've tried my fair share of roms.
I have tried the darkside roms but im starting to think its the phone and i think is should get it replaced then.
Yeah it shouldn't be so sensative.

i just started experiencing this last night. RIGHT after getting my battery replaced after two weeks of dealing with that problem and finally realizing it was my battery and not my phone. then i tried to take a screenshot of my new battery stats (without all of the huge sudden depletions) and my phone reset as if i held the power button down for 5 seconds. i read about a woman in india getting her button repaired for 550 rupees ($10), but i'm wondering if i should just get a whole new unit and be done with it. the problem with that is dealing with setting up all my apps over again. i have titanium backup (root version) but the last time i got a new phone it didn't put all my apps back on my phone. maybe i did something wrong. i'll email them for detailed instructions and see if it's better to get the button or the phone replaced.
Definitely the power button! After I hardbricked and revived it, my phone had an internal short, which made my phone constantly power off my phone, restart my phone over and over, etc. Josh at mobiletechvideos had to try and work around. He disabled my power button and remapped the wake buttons. So now I wake this phone via the volume rockers on roms that support that
I digress. If you can't send it to T-Mobile to get repaired, give mobile tech videos a shot. Just 35$ and they're super swift

I wonder what's actually causing this power button thing??
I was literally just browsing email, clicking around a little fast, back to home screen and FLASH!!! my camera flashes and all this same $hit starts happening...boot loop, sensitive button, booting out of recovery mode even. I just doesn't add up to sudden button failure...does it??? Why would the camera just flash out of nowhere? Some of the boot loops would also get interrupted and start over. Recovery mode is also kind of screwy. I tried to restore to a backup of Beastmade rom and it just reflashed Sith, the same rom I've been on!! And all my other backups/nandroids are missing. Something is fishy here.
I did recently go to TWRP and have been on the Sith Rom (clones & drones).
Yep its the power button ! I had this problem a month ago , but for me it completely went away .. maybe something was just stuck in between and the constant pressing of the button loosened whatever it was

The thing that has me curious is how mine started acting up. I wasn't even touching the power button. I was just clicking around gmail, went to home screen, the camera flashed and it started boot looping. It would sort of zap out in the middle of a reboot like there was a power issue and lot of other stuff was messed up including TWRP recovery! This tells me there is something else going on...more ROM related. Seems like all this started happening when these ICS ROMS dropped...none of them are as stable as Juggernaut, Paradox, etc...NONE of them. My power button does indeed seem defective, but it almost seems like it was a bi product of something else.

I was lucky enough to get flashed back to stock and have a warranty replacement on the way. Still has me wondering if something else wasn't up. Just seems like all the ICS based ROMs have been very buggy compared to the very stable Gingerbread builds. I sure enjoyed my rooted phone but this has been a PITA losing my device...it's my work and life! I haven't been stock in so long it will be interesting to click around a bit and see if I'm not better off stock. I'm due for an upgrade next month so I may well be on to an S3 or whatever else is out.
Just got my replacement this afternoon!!! Man...what a couple of days it's been without it! Holy crap, I had no idea.
Anyway the new phone shipped with 4.04. So that's cool. So far THIS is the most stable ICS rom I've used. :silly:
I know this post is ancient, but ....

Should have searched online before...
I had the SAME EXACT issue. I had to literally remove my power button because my device would reboot every few minutes. I use the volume keys to wake the device and sleep shortcut in the notification bar to sleep. If my device turns off, I have to turn it on with a USB, which is a major hassle but I've grown used to it.

Possible brick

Hi. Running TWRP with a CM10 Nightly (8/14 I think). Well I wasn't doing anything special and the phone decided to reboot and then just started the haptic feedback boot loop, no samsung logo. I took the battery out let it sit for about a minute and put it back in. Started on it own, got to a samsung logo and then rebooted back to the black screen and buzzing.
After everything I have tried I figured out it can boot into anything but only for about 10 seconds with pulling the battery and letting it sit. Download mode shows up then reboots. TWRP can boot up to the splash screen then it reboots.
I'm at work right now so I am unable to try any advanced methods for getting this back up, but download mode reboots worry me. Do I need to warranty it out?

This happened to my T989 a couple of days ago as well... I was pretty sure it wasn't a software brick as I hadn't been tinkering with the phone at all since putting CM9 on it a few weeks back. But an issue with the power button makes sense, I was actually able to boot it up and/or get it into recovery just by continually pressing the power button (guessing this interrupts the signal that the broken button is sending)... of course as soon as you stop pressing the button, the phone shuts off again.
I'll have to look into the mobiletech repair.
Temporary Fix to get your backup
I had a co-worker have this happen to her T989 that I flashed CM10 to. I was afraid that something had happened and she had unintentionally done something to brick the phone (it had been running fine for about a week prior to this). It is definitely hardware related, as you can just touch the power button and it goes into a screen wake/sleep fit of rage before finally hard resetting (presumably because it thinks the power button has been held down for 10 seconds). I was finally able to get it to stop rebooting long enough to get a TWRP backup and get them downloaded off of the phone so that she can get a replacement; and here is how I did it.
If you are getting boot cycle and it is vibrating every 3 seconds you can get it to "unstick" by putting your fingernail as far behind the power button as possibly and prying out. This will unstick it.
EDIT: I wanted to point out that I was most successful when I pried from the top or the back of the device. Sometimes when you pry it, if your finger slips it will redo the stick and will continue to reboot. So if at first you don't succeed...
Once you have done this, it is VERY sensitive. I literally had it start boot cycling one time after accidentally bumping the desk the phone was sitting on. Prying the button back allowed me to boot back up.
If you get it unstuck, be very careful about setting it down, turning it power button side up and even looking at it cross and you should be able to get it to stop rage quitting long enough to get a backup performed and even copied to your sdcard/computer.
I hope someone finds this useful.
On a side note: co-worker has purchased her phone outright and is planning on sending it back for a replacement. Should I flash it back to stock before that happens or since she owns it outright will they even care?
TIA,
Same thing happened to me awhile back and like said above, I sent it to MobileTechVideos and had my phone back within a week fixed and perfect. I have used MobileTechVideos twice now and both times they have fixed my T989 without problem.

[Q] Rooted phone and now wont turn on

I recently Rooted my sealed samsung galaxy s3 without having a clue what i'm doing i downloaded this program called snapdragon to root it along with ODIN. The phone rooted fine everything was working okay, I even downloaded an app to see if the root was successful and indeed it was. I shut the phone down wake up in the morning to turn it back on and I get zero response. Any help/direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes of course I've tried leaving it plugged in for several hours and the night before the phone was at 100% charge so I doubt battery is the issue.
Tks though

Ummm seems like u can fix it.... go bak to stock using odin as well and go back to stock and i believe cwm is going to be gone so as your root access so re-do it but this time guide yourself through a turorial(a.k.a google) and since you have to clue i think the best choice for you is to find a video tutorial in case your doubting or getting confused with the steps or sometimes to see what you did wrong that caused the phone to misbehave...

This is why I hate one-click-root kits, you get people doing things to their phones they don't understand, wreck it and come here saying "help, I don't know what do do!" Something like this you really should at least understand the basics. I hope this gets you more involved in researching what's actually happening. It's important to know what's happening to your device as well as why, that way if something goes badly you'll have an idea of how to get out of it.
Sorry, enough lecturing, let's see if we can get something going here. Give a bit more detail about what happens. You're phone is shut down, right? You hit the power button and no response, like the battery is actually out of the phone, or does it turn on and give you a blank screen? If it was a brick, I'd think you'd at least see the boot screen before everything goes wrong.
Ok, I'm going to go ahead and assume you've removed the battery. If you haven't, do so now.
If it still won't turn on, try actually holding the power button down for 30-60 seconds. I had a scary moment with my phone yesterday, rebooted it running Wicked v5 on Trinity and the screen just died. I've been running that rom for a week with just a couple of issues here and there, nothing out of the ordinary. Pulled the battery and tried again, nothing. After holding the power button down for a bit I felt a quick vibrate, then the boot logo came up. No idea why, I'm going to have to look into it.
Beyond that, I'm brand new to this phone and Sammy's Android devices so I'm still learning myself. HTC phones I could help out more with, but I'm still a bit clueless with this thing.

Yes I have taken out the battery replaced it several times. I hit the volume home and power button several times. When I do that I get a zero response nothing shows up I hear no sound its as if the phone is just completely dead. One thing I did realise is when I plug it into the computer and press the power button what would happen is it would connect and automatically disconnect
Can you get into Download mode? Volume down + Home + Power button?

Don't forget to let go of the power button when going into recovery.
Have you done what the other post said?
Hold power for about 10-30 seconds. Does it do anything? Do you feel a verrrry slight vibration?
When you plug it in without doing anything else does the computer see it in device manager? How about if you press power once? Or holding power down?
Does it register that its charging?
This may sound dumb but did you try powering up without the phone plugged into anything?

Ummm. Sorry but maybe im missing something? Your first sentence in your op says you didnt have a clue what you were doing....
And where is it supposed to infer that you've done everything already?
Imo you have been getting 'real' advice but from what I see you haven't 'really' answered anyones suggestions.
No one can help you if you dont tell us what exactly you have tried and what what happened when you did.
For example in your only response you mentioned hitting the volume and home keys a bunch of times....what exactly do you mean by this? Did you hold them while trying to power up? Volume up or down? Did you release any of them during that process, and if so which and when?
Its kinda hard to help someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing and only responds that hes done everything common sense dictates.
I seriously mean no offence but to me common sense would dictate that you not try rooting or anything if you know you dont know what you're doing.
It would also dictate that if you want further help with this you should go back and respond to what everyone suggested.
Like I said, im not trying to offend, just help.

I am having the same issue
I just tried flashing Android Revolution to my phone. I went through the whole set up process. Went to reboot then it went blank. Nothing. I get nothing when I plug it in. The computer doesn't recognize any device attached to it. I've tried all the ideas listed here and I get nothing. It's as if the phone is completely dead. When I flashed the rom my battery was at 90%. I've used various roms on different phones and this was the first time I did it to my Galaxy s3 and this is the first time it's ever happened. Talk about frustrating.

i unluged the device before dhe odin finished his job ( by mistakeee ) and now it doesnt turn on , charge , go to recovery/odin , hold down power button for 30-60-120 sec nth hapend, it has baterri 90-100 % . plss guys help me :'( i have an samsung galaxy s advance .

[Q] My TMO S3 (T-999) will not turn on.

I didn't have luck finding an answer to this on the forums so I figured I'd make a new post. I have been running a version (not sure which) of Liquid Smooth for a few months. Yesterday, I noticed my phone was on a boot loop. It would vibrate, show the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen and then turn off. I pulled the battery and memory card and tried again. It still wouldn't come on. I pulled the battery and then rebooted to recovery mode. I went there to wipe and reboot. When I tried to do that it said something like, "what you are looking for can't be found". I pulled the battery again but this time when I tried to turn it back on it did nothing. I have no vibrations, I have nothing on my screen. I'm not sure what could have happened because I haven't made a change to my phone for quite some time. Any ideas?

Battery is going bad or the hardware is going bad.
What recovery and version?
Have you tried booting into recovery or download mode?
Take battery out and put back in:
Recovery: volume up, home button, power
Download mode: volume down, home button and power

I'm not able to get the phone to come on so I don't know the versions of anything I've used. All I know is my phone is the T-999. Sorry, I know that's probably no help at all.
You don't have a spare battery do you? If not, you should see if you can find someone you know that has one. It could be that you battery just went bad.

I tried all of this but did not have any luck. The phone doesn't do anything. It doesn't make any sense how it can just stop working out of nowhere like this. Wouldn't it mess up immediately after I rooted/added a custom ROM if I did something wrong rather than a few months later? I'm afraid that the phone may be done for. : (

I hate to say it, but usually when something like this happens it's most likely to be hardware related. If you don't have access to a spare, go to a T-Mobile store and ask to borrow a battery to see if it'll power up with a known good one. Batteries usually don't just die like that, but it can happen.
So you don't get a short vibe or anything out of it? What about when you hold the power button for about 10seconds? If you remove the battery and plug it in, do you get an led lit up? How about with the battery in?
If the battery turns out to be good, you could attempt the debrick method by KAsp3rd stickies in development. I don't see why it would be a brick, but at this point I'd try anything available just to be positive.
If you have insurance on it, it may be time to consider using it.
Sorry to hear this is happening to you man. These S3's are starting to get a little old though, and no matter how careful we are, they do suffer more abuse than any other electronics we may use. I'm seeing more and more posts like yours recently, I'm sorry to say.
Keep us updated on it, and good luck with it!

[Q] Screen wont turn on

I have the new Galaxy Note 2014 edition tablet, as does my son. My son came home today with his tablet and told me the screen no longer turns on. He said he was playing a game with a friend when the screen flickered and then went dark. Nothing seems to bring it back online.
Tried to press the power button and volume up button for a forced reboot. Most times does not but it did reboot once and stayed black.
Also tried pressing the power button down while pressing a finger on the screen, apparently a solution to sleep of death or something. I can't tell if that does anything - if anything it seems to turn it off or something because it has become unresponsive after doing that.
Any thoughts on what to do next?

I seem to be able to get it into two states right now, but neither is like it was - powered on and "working" but no screen. If I hold the power button for a while it seems ot go into a deep state of sleep or off, but I do not quite think it is off. If I hold it again for 30 seconds nothing happens at all. If I hold it again for 4 seconds, the back and menu soft keys will light up again. And then I can get them to light by hitting the home button or a quick touch of the power button.
Press and hold power in either state while holding volume up no longer seems to take me to a reboot - I no longer hear the power up music.
No idea what state it really is in or how to get it out of this.
ok - I think when it is able to light the buttons - it actually is still on. I just heard the vibration notification of an incoming alert (email, twitter or something).

Have you tried connecting it to your charger for 15 min or so to see if anything changes.
Are you rooted?

I have had it plugged in for a couple hours now and no change. I am not rooted. It is completely stock except the apps installed.
Thanks!
Sounds like a hardware fault. Take it back under warranty.

Yeah - I am thinking you are right. Not sure if I can just send it back as I bought it on Amazon. Would Samsung repair service be a valid option?

Use the function to chat with the amazon support.
just google "Amazon Support". You will find the option on the right side on the amazon page
They will know what to do and from my experience amazon will offer you that you can send your tablet either to amazon or directly to samsung and they wil pay the shipping costs good luck !

If you are within your refund stage then get it exchanged for a brand new device if not then yeah you will be covered under warrenty.
Its a problem with your tablet. I know of a few other people in other threads who have also experienced this. My experience was different though because mine didn't turn on out of the box. I think there's a problem with Samsung's display connector. Your best bet is to just get it replaced at this point.

Yeah - it looks like that. I was hoping for a service option because my son has a lot of homework on it that would be nice to retrieve and of course he is bummed that he might lose all his game stats. I tried ot hook the device up to the pc to see if I could copy some files but although the device shows, its internal drives do not show up.
I really do not know what state the device is in right now. The soft buttons light up and if i pull the smart pen out it vibrates as it acknowledges it has been taken out, and I can hear the occasional vibration notification as an email, twitter update, or some other notification comes in. So - it "seems" like it is on. But I can not get it to do a forced boot and a few other things seem not quite right.
Anyway - Thanks for the help everyone!

That's strange that you can't see the drives when connected to the computer. If you look really closely though it could just be the backlight not turning on when the actual lcd is turning on. If you really need to see whats on the screen and try to find a way to send the files to yourself or upload them somewhere you can try taking a screenshot while the tablet is connected to the computer and check the screenshots folder to see what is on the screen at a certain time. I know it could take a while, but if what's on the tablet is really important it could work. Best of luck.

I tried to see if there was anything vaguely showing but the screen is totally black as far as I can see. I have a service ticket open with Samsung and will send it back for repairs. I would prefer repair over replacement as I would hate to lose all the stuff installed. I generally trust repairs as my philosophy is that they tend to pay better attention on the repair than the assembly line.
Thanks for all the help everyone!
You should definitely try getting it repaired or see if it's possible to copy the data to an external storage prior to getting a new one.
As a general rule I always have Google Drive take automatic backups and store what I can on my external SD to prevent any loss of important work.

Don't you have to unlock the device for the drives to show up on the PC? It's probably waiting for the lock screen to be cleared.

The same thing happened to my Note 2014 and returned for a replacement as there is no other way around this.

This is what I am thinking - that it is sitting at the lock screen. I tried to see if I could unlock it by touching the screen in the right places but I guess when the screen is dark its not just dark but not functional. I figured as much but thought I would try anyway.

Well - its going back this morning for either repair or replacement. I would prefer repair to save the apps and data and work. Nothing irreplaceable but its a royal pain to reset all this up and my son had significant game experience on the device that might be nice to save.
Either way - it will just be nice to get it working.
Just wanted to follow up with the results. Got notification from Samsung yesterday that they repaired my device and it is on its way back. They replaced the LCD screen and the battery. All free and in warranty and coming back 2 day air.
Not sure why they replaced the battery. I wonder if the battery takes a beating because of 1 game that we play - Bloons TD5. It tends to drain the battery from full to empty in about 30 - 45 minutes. Any other game or function we do the battery last many hours. I wonder if that damages the battery long term?
