PREPARATION STEP! download sgs kernel flasher from the market (must be rooted I believe) and do a kernel backup as this process changes your kernel.
SPRINT TAB INSTRUCTIONS THAT WORKEDFOR MANY SPRINT TAB OWNERS. IT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU!
Ok here it is, Thank koushs for this product, cruiserbax for his awesome instructions and Benjamin Dobell for giving up Heimdall flashing utility and install instructions.
I NOR THE ANYONE LIST ABOVE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS NOT WORKING!!! OR ANY DAMAGE IT MAY DO TO YOUR TAB!!
To get the zip file containing the zimage download it from here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SV6IKL1D
To flash the zimage you will need to use Heimdall which can be downloaded here. http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ <--------click on the binaries link for 1.1.1
instruction are below.
Heimdall install instructions
1. Download Heimdall here http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
2. Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and install it. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...5E-6DE6-4D3A-A423-37BF0912DB84&displaylang=en <------only if you are using Microsoft widows
2. Unzip Heimdall and you should have several files in the folder called Heimdall.exe, Heimdall-Frontend.exe, QtCore4.dll, QtGui4.dll, Readme.txt and drivers folder containing zadig.exe
3. Put you tab into Download mode(while the tab is OFF hold Volume Down + Power Button). Hook the tab up to you PC and Run Zadig.exe to install the drivers.
4. From the menu chose Options -> List All Devices.
5. From the USB Device list chose "Samsung USB Composite DEvice".
6. Press "Install Driver", click "Yes" to the prompt and if you receive
a message about being unable to verify the publisher of the driver
click "Install this driver software anyway".
7. Done. This only needs to be done once.
ClockWorkMod Install Instructions
1. First root you tab (use one click root or z4root) then downloaded rom manager.
2. Unzip the flash_image_VZW_zimage.zip. It will have have two files flash_image and zimage. you only need to use the zimage file. Open Heimdall-Frontend.exe and browse to where you unzipped the zimage to and select it. Make sure the box infront of zimage is checked. Hit start and it should flash the zimage and reboot the tab.
when it reboots it will get stuck at the samsung screen long hold the power button to shut it off. boot into recovery (cwm) power button plus volume up button it will start backing up to do the fs conversion but it will fail at /data and /cache. it will leave you in recovery.
3. While still in recovery select factory reset/data wipe when finished also do a cache wipe.
4. select reboot system, if you let it try to boot it will loop/hang on the SAMSUNG logo, this is not an issue just hold power key until it powers off.
5. while off hold volume up + power until you see the SAMSUNG logo then release both keys! NOTE: if step 4 does not fully power off and reboots just keep holding the power button until the screen blanks again then let go and quickly hold down only volume up + power until you see the SAMSUNG logo.
6. once it boots back into recovery (cwm) it will start the same backup/conversion process again, this time it will finish and leave you in recovery.
7. select reboot system and wait for it to load the tab back to froyo. (it will be back to factory defaults with the activation screen again)
8. Your tab will still be rooted so install terminal emulator and run "mount" to verify that your partitions are ext4.
9. Power off then boot back into recovery with volume up + power, it will boot back into recovery (cwm)
10. Do a backup and reboot your tab.

Yes, I tried this and it works great but be aware that certain kernels seem to mess it up.
Which Kernel Seems To Work The Best?
@ lloydcabraham
Which kernel is the most stable?
I rooted my tab last night in preparation for the HC port, and I'm curious about whether CWM is necessary... seems everything needs to be flashed via Heimdal or Odin, so is the advantage to having CWM installed just the wipe capabilities? I'm used to my EVO, and flashing/rooting/modding which is obviously different, I just don't understand what the differences are, I guess. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE STEP BY STEP! Simpletons like me find them EXTREMELY useful!
Great work, and thanks again!

Somewhat Offtopic:
Chances are the honeycomb port will come to GSM Devices First, We can only hope that it comes to Sprint and Verizon devices.
I believe the build being worked on right now in here is based on a cdma device...
Not off topic at all. THE ONLY HC port is currently being built by spacemoose (reading more than one thread on one website helps) and that wasn't the focus of my question. Please read before you quote/insinuate. Don't wanna be tagged with the troll label...

Clockworkmod has many advantages if you flash different roms, or say wanted to backup your current sprint rom & settings before testing Honeycomb Port.
As far as Honeycomb Port goes,
Again Chances are Honeycomb will port to Gsm Devices First,
Honeycomb is still Closed Code.
I said somewhat off topic, which it was, considering the thread is titled Clockworkmod.
Get your facts straight.

I like Bauxite but you will get a flaky camera (Sometimes won't initialize without reboot) and seems to mess up CWM (Although redoing these steps fixes it) but I do love running @ 1.4 super stable!

3/26/11 #2:...Second... The "dirty" port will be for CDMA devices, but as soon as the CDMA version is released I'll look into getting a GSM version out asap. Shouldn't be hard. Instead of using my own kernel for this one, I'm using a modified version of Boushh's kernel and can probably hack together a suitable kernel for other devices as well. My own kernel for the larger project is still in fluctuation as I have to make changes to suit the build on a regular basis, but when I finalize that kernel I'll release it as an update and it will get a repo of it's own.

I still stand by my message.
It's also apparent you didn't go back to page 1 otherwise you would have known I acknowledged spacemoose1 Honeycomb Port.
Despite someone working on Honeycomb port for Sprint / CDMA devices.
Chances are someone else is working on it for GSM, as with damn near anything, GSM devices will most likely get it first,
KEYWORD: most likely, and if you read the previous post - keyword is chances are
Bottom line is who cares who gets it first.
I'm well aware of most developments going on XDA

Really don't know what to say about the error message, My tab was messed up with errors like can't mount....., some other stuff, I had to send mine in to get replaced, never would go past the samsung logo. At the time the only thing Sprint users had was the Stock DJ30 With Modem.

Hey,
I recently bought this phone Huawei U8500, and I had a long search on the net where can I get a working recovery, finally I found a modified clockworkmod recovery.
It seems that this phone is highly unpopular.
I just wanted to share my finding.
Here you can download this modified version: Download
Steps to install recovery:
1. Download the clockworkmod
2. Unrar it somewhere on your computer
3. Turn off your phone
4. Press & Hold volume down key + call end (red) key and then press power key.
5. Launch the .bat file on your computer + connect your phone via USB
6. When it's finished, take out the battery and wait 5 seconds before putting it back in
7. Then you can access the recovery by holding volume up key + call(green) key
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One thing I can recommend If your phones android build version doesn't end with "712", I suggest you to update it to the beta release, you'll have more functional dual-touch.
Here is the beta froyo update: Download
To install it:
1. Unrar it to your computer, and find a folder named "dload" with the biggest size.
2. Copy that "dload" filder to root of your SD card
3. turn off phone
4. Hold volume up key + end call (red) key and the press power key. Wait for it to load, it will say something like "Updating system" Wait for it to finish, if it says fail, just try again
5. After it says "Update complete" or "Update successful" just restart your phone and you'll have the new beta firmware.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the Russian site I found some unofficial ROM's too.
I haven't tried them yes but if someone is willing here you can download them:
Firmware 2.2 29.01.2011 by Pavlo78
u8500_mao_rls7b2
u8500_mao_rls7++by_march_2
u8500_mao_rls8_by_march
u8500_mao_rls8_by_march
To install one of these ROM's do the following:
1. Copy the ZIP file on root of your SD card, the ZIP file, not RAR.
2. Boot up your phone in recovery mode (by holding volume up key + call(green) key)
3. With your optical trackpad select "Install zip from sd card"
4. From the list choose your ZIP file
5. And then just wait till the installation is complete and then just restart the phone!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I highly recommend you to back up the original firmware before installing new ROM's
You can do that in recovery mode, just click on nandroid and follow the on screen instructions it will backup your current firmware + your currently installed apps.
I'm not responsible for bricking your phone, if something doesn't go well. By doing the things I wrote, you may void your phones warranty.
Don't forget to thank me
Kind regards
xcoder_123
Bro, may i have to wipe all data via recovery like slash, cache and dalvik cache before i install froyo beta?
This is really helpful...a lot of Bangladeshis will be needing this. Telenor just launched this phone here.
I am using Huawei U8500 (Local branded as GrameenPhone Crystal). I have backed up my current ROM using ROM Manager. Can anyone confirm that the back-up ROM contains all the information including the Customized Branding???

So no worry about Warranty. just load it when you need to go to gps Customer care.

hey im thinking bout buying this phone as i live in bangladesh... can anyone confirm me about the froyo upgrade does it work???
I did download the beta firmware.
And updated the phone's firmware a few minutes ago.
I have the dual touch now, yay (and a little better keyboard).
Many thanks from a Droid noob.
This should be enough for all your stock rom needs.

BTW: If you install the clockwordmod, you will lose the GP stock bootup screen (not the boot animation). So if you are going to claim warranty make sure you flash the GP firmware before you go to the GP centre.
Someone was asking how this phone is...the only issue I have is knowing that I'll never have flash on this thanks to the arm6 processor.

There is a thread in the port section of the Cyanogenmod forum. It started with a lame question but later a lot was discussed about gingerbread 2.3.4. There is a Chinese developer (Slax) who has been working on the rom. However, this rom does have a few issues.
I don't know Chinese and google translate is incomprehensible. You should be able to find all the links needed in the cyanogenmod forum.
here is the link.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/21467-huawei-u8500/
for froyo try trial and error with all the official roms. if you don't like one change it. eventually you will find one that meets your need.

Dear bro,
This link doesn't work. Pls, help me with a active link.
Thanks in advance.
Hello XCoder, and all!
I try this steps, but i stopped after 4th step...
I get a boot logo, and the XP can't recognize droid, unknown device.
than the .bat file just wait for connection.
i try lot of drivers (original U8500, Original Android, and the SDK's driver too) and still "unknown Andoid device"
If i get out battery, take back, and standard Power On, the XP recognize the "Android Composite ADB" device, and bind the SD card, and CDROM image, and works perfectly.
but i can't upgrade in Standard Mode
can anyone have an idea, how i can access the Droid under Recovery Mode?
and all links of huaweidevice.com are unavailable
have new link?

I had one of those before and i rooted foloing these steps
http://www.4shared.com/rar/UAfQldwH/Android_SDK.html
1- Download the link above.
2- extract android sdk folder to c:\. And take the recovery.img file out of the folder and also put it in c:\.
3- open a command prompt (open with admin if using windows
vista/7)
4- navigate to your android sdk folder
5- put your phone in android bootloader interface by turning it on
and IMMEDIATELY PRESSING VOLUME DOWN AND MENU
TOGETHER UNTIL PHONE LOOKS FROZEN.
6- plug your phone into your pc, driver can be found in the
android sdk folder
7- in your command prompt enter: fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img (do this twice, for some reason it needs
to be done twice to stick)
8- type fastboot reboot
9- now when you turn your phone on in recovery ( turn on while
pressin volume up and menu) you will get the clockworkmod
recovery.

To root your B08 device:
1- Before you begin, make a backup of your system with
clockworkmod. It's free!

Added features: - b08 compatibility
- flash player support (sorta)
- full browser instead of mini
as always all optional apps are removable and base system has been kept light. Enjoy!
lemyster also made a few roms in backup form:

http://www.4shared.com/rar/SlfWcnU8/BC_420_n762_B08_rev5_IPhone.html
all roms and backups are pre rooted unless it is specified that they are stock.
backups are different... to install them you must extract the folder on the rar file to sdcard\clockworkmod\backup\ and then in clockworkmod use the restore option.
that comes frrom here: http://nolochemical.kodemind.com/rooting-zte-n762
and everything was posible thanks to smartmanvartan r.
good luck.

What Drivers? Where?
Where do I place the supplied drivers that come with Android sdk? Do I leave them in the folder? Do I put them in Win32?
A little more clarity would be usefull.
thanks in advance!

Help
Hi i just started using this forum and i not that tech savvy but i know enough about root because i rooted my tablet i while back but that program was stricktly for that tablet so please bare with me. My problem is the easyclockwork. i instaled it exactly like you said but when i boot as recovery on my N762 the volume key do not seem to move the highlights the only button that seems to work is the power button when i access recovery mode. but when im on normal mode my volume keys work just fine. please help me. this is the only problem i have encountered till now. Please and thank you
N762 still kickin
Hey smartmanvartan, I have been fooling around on my moms ZTE lately and I was wondering if you still had any of those lightweight roms lying around somewhere. Most of the links I have found are dead. I was able to root it with your clockworkmod recovery.img and tried the b08 rom and everything went haywire after it updated a few apps. It ended up softbricking until I found another live link for a b10 unroot and stock install on the android forums. I was wondering if you would have anything available, thanks in advance.
Yeah i should have it lying around somewhere... im out of town till saturday but ill post a link when i get back
I came upon this device on Christmas (a gift from my girlfriend to her father) and wanted to root it and also install clockworkmod recovery, so I could mess with it a bit without bricking it. Since I found a lack of tailored guides for it, I decided to write this one, although I really did no actual development whatsoever. Normally I would be posting this on general, but given the spirit of this forum, I guess I'll just leave it here. Also, keep in mind I don't have the device anymore and am writing this from memory. If I missed anything or you have any doubts, please let me know (for example, I can't recall specifically the drivers I installed to make it work properly).
Please, please read the whole guide before trying anything, and if you are a novice user, just leave this be, I don't want you to turn your tablet into a paperweight because of my shoddy instructions written from memory and you probably don't need any of this anyway as there are no custom roms yet.
!!!DISCLAIMER!!!: As stated above, anything you do is at your own risk. I provided the procedures that worked for me on a Qilive 97r tablet, which is an Auchan branded ARCHOS 97b Platinum HD, so my step by step should work for all of you. There are probably easier ways to do this, and I hint at them in the guide, but beware I have not tried them and cannot vouch for them. In fact, I cannot and will not take any responsability if you brick your device following these instructions, correctly or otherwise. You do this at YOUR OWN RISK. You have been warned!
Rooting:
I followed this guide on Windows 7 x64 and it worked perfectly.
So thanks to dhigby for that. I would just like to make a couple of remarks:
When you get to step 7 (Installing Superuser by ChainDD), don't. Install SuperSU by Chainfire instead, Use it to update the superuser binary (I think a prompt shows up) and when asked, let it delete the "other" superuser applications, that is, the chinese one. Clean and easy, you don't need to follow any more steps.
Congratulations, you now have (english language) root!
Clockworkmod Recovery:
There is no specific recovery for this device. Fortunately, thanks to AndroTab.info, there's a generic version for 3188 devices that you'll see should work quite nicely, albeight with some caveats.
What works:
Nandroid backup to/from external SDCard (won't recognize internal)
Installing zip files should also work, although I didn't try it at the time, as the device wasn't mine and I can't since I don't have it anymore, but since it mounts system partitions perfectly well I wouldn't think there would be a problem. Try it at your own risk though.
Other things probably work, give it a try.
What doesn't work:
Internal SDCard access
Probably other things
Installation:
Now that you have a rooted tablet, installing clockworkmod recovery is easy-peasy. Go to developer options and enable USB Debugging, then make sure you have a working adb daemon (look it up) that recognizes your tablet.
NOTE: I'm not sure if I had to install any specific drivers for this to work, I think if so they were installed while rooting by the chinese app. Anyhow, here's the Rockchip drivers, you might want to try to install them if you can't get a connection: http://www.rockchip.nl/downloads/
Download the file RK30GENERIC_CWM.zip from here - that's the recovery.
Now extract flash_image and recovery.img from the downloaded file above to the folder where you have your adb and follow the following commands.
Push the files to /dev partition on the device:
Code:
adb push flash_image /dev/
adb push recovery.img /dev/
Then enter root shell, like so:
Code:
adb shell
su
Now flash recovery.img into recovery partition with flash_image:
Code:
chmod 755 /dev/flash_image
/dev/flash_image recovery /dev/recovery.img
Now power off your device. To enter recovery press volume down then the power button and keep them pressed until CWM boots. Voilá!
NOTE: The instructions above were adapted from here and all credit goes to AndroTab.info ; I posted these particular instructions because they are the ones I used and worked for me; there are other methods listed on that page which might or might not work, TRY THEM AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Backing up your original recovery (for warranty, if anything goes wrong, etc.)
To obtain a backup image of your recovery \ restore it back afterwards, follow this guide here. All credit goes to Originalas.
Don't follow it to the letter though: first and foremost, you need a working linux installation. If you don't have one, I recommend Wubi.
Then:
Follow step 1;
Ignore step 2 (it's outdated);
Follow 3;
Follow 4 - but don't expect the screen to turn on, it won't, just hold the volume down button for 10 seconds or so after plugging it in, don't press the power button!
Ignore 5, 6 and 7
Follow 8, but don't use the last command to flash the CWM recovery onto the device. This is because since it is a generic version, it relies on the original recovery kernel. Flashing the image like stated in step 8 would probably overwrite the kernel and result in no recovery at all (I might be wrong about this).
Do follow the last command to restore your own backup if you ever need to.
I am unsure if recovery dumps obtained in this way are device specific; I don't see a reason why they should be, so I'll provide you with my own backup:
ORIGINAL RECOVERY
Flash through any method of your choice, but keep in mind I haven't tried this on other devices, so, as you know by now DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Closing remarks:
There you have it. Sorry for not holding your hand through every step, but this is meant for people who know a bit of what they're doing, making it faster than having to look up and figure out all these things and quirks on their own. If you have any doubts don't hesitate to ask, but keep in mind I don't have the device anymore and don't know much more than what I have written here. I do appreciate feedback and corrections, and will gladly change the guide giving you full credit - if it's really urgent just PM me, I might not check this thread often.
Cheers!
thanks, works like a charm...do you have any news about updates\custom roms? I can't find anything even in the archos main site

I wouldn't keep my hopes up on custom roms. The software is really bad and what it does with the hardware is terrible. It's like a bunch of chipmunks put the code together by randomly typing into a keyboard.
That said, the likelihood of a new kernel to fix that is next to nil. However, since the ROM is as far as I can tell pretty near stock, you can get a pretty good experience from the device by installing gravity box xposed module. I also recommend trickstermod and changing the governor to performance, as well as some kernel tweaking if you know what you are doing.
Also, very important, limit the amount of processes running in the background to 3 in dev settings or change the used memory limit to something like 1.2 gb. It has 2 gb of RAM, but, as I said, the ROM sucks, the system eats away a full gigabyte, and it doesn't effectively kill background apps, leaving you with a sluggish device if you multitask.
Anyway, those are just some ideas, if you have some more or would like to code for this device, feel free to share Also, as I always say, give it time. You never know who is gonna get they're hands on the device and do something amazing with it.

hi and thanx for the answer
yes i saw that it's almost stock but crappy optimized...in the very first start of the tablet i had 1.8gb occupied by nothing and clean master always notifies me that 90% of the ram is busy...meh
maybe just a kernel will fix like you say but you know, android 4.4 will be a must (rockchip already released sdk for 3188). I am not a coder (totally zero) but i will try your suggestion...just a question about the performance governor, does it drain more battery?
i am trying to backup my rom but cwm is so buggy...first was impossible, now i'm stuck on backing up boot image
there is a twrp available for this tablet?
solved

Download the CF-Auto-Root exploit from official Chainfire’s site here, look for SPH-L710 model.
A Sprint Galaxy S3 smartphone (SPH-L710) running official Android 4.4.2 from OTA.
Unzip the “CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710.zip” it until you find a file with .tar.md5 extension and an odin executable (*.exe) file.
Run the Odin by double-clicking the executable file.
Soon after the Odin window comes out, click on “PDA” button and look for a “.tar.md5″.
Look at Option area, make sure the Repartition option not checked.
Grab your phone, then put it in download mode, with this magic combo key (Volume down + Home + Power). You’ll get a warning, opt to continue.
Attach the phone to your PC via USB cable. At this stage, Odin should find out your phone, if not, there’s should be a problem with your phone’s drivers.
Now you’re ready, click on the “Start” button, the flashing procedure should done in minutes, but don’t ever interrupt the process. Once the Odin shows a PASS, the phone will reboot on its own.
Once fully boots up, update your SuperSU apps via Play Store, and run it. Now your Sprint Galaxy S3 running KitKat ND8 should rooted at this point.
im am on the stock rom 4.4.2 like above has told me. at this point and now.
ok so i have root checker and says that i am rooted and i can use superSU just fine and file explore accepts root.
downloaded busybox and installed download and TWRP manager is on my phone . now when im in TWRP it brings up a teamwin in the back ground and a side bar for home classic backup live backup restore install TWRP manger and reboot options and settings . i also have goo manager i dont know what to do step by step and have been looking on rootjunkys web site for answers but that build is diff since im on sprint and 4.4.2 .. stock . my problem is my single keeps going from 2 bars of 3g to and x . i can even get pasted the activation . im on straight talk for a service provider. so pretty much i can make phone calls or msg or data . sometimes it works then 5 sec later fails. i had that prob on the droid but when i switched to cm11 everything was fine a dandy . so plz advise me what to do next or where i went wrong. oh and i can get into recovery but have no idea what to do when i get there or what i can use it for. i have been told there is no boot-loader lock on this device so no need to worry about that . i never got the MLS code but i dont need since im rooted and can obviously get some type of single or it would be blocked. my phone number shows up in status info under about phone. i dont know any key codes to set the prl or apns like i do on the droid bionic with a gsm network . im a software dev in training for eclipse but none of my fellow students know how so i gotta ask my main guys at XDA. plz help. also why cant i see dev options in my device . i wanna set up my own PRL and stuff idk help me plz.
in the past i have rooted and loaded and unlocked the boot loader and switched radio bands on a moto droid bionic . i can do that all because i understand how to use safe strap . and i have patched it perfect with a build prop so im not a complete noob im just stuck on the new stuff. also flash roms for cm11 works great but im stuck on the SG3. ok im rooted and on 4.4.2 sprint sph-l710 stock rom and did the whole Call # # 7 2 7 8 6 # that straight talk sent me . the only thing next for me to do is back up my current rom or set up and load a fast yet good stable rom . im also on a stuck point of the prl when you enter the msl # i can get into it but i don't know what info i needs to change for straight talk which they are really using net 10 cdma. in other words the only info they sent me was the ##72786# but no other set up info . (like when i set up my droid bionic i went in and changed Create a new APN with the following values:
APN Name: Straight Talk
APN: tfdata
Port: 80
MMSC: http://mms-tf.net
MMS Proxy: mms3.tracfone.com
MMS Port: 80
Delete the current APN from your phone.
Reboot your phone.
)
i dont know what to change on cdma after entering the MSL .
so summary is i need
1. back up rom instructions using TWRP the correct way just encase i boot loop or brick it again. (i got lucky the first time)
2. load a fast performing rom yet nice like 5.0 LP
3. what info needs to be changed after entering the MSL code.
Thanks
