Can you only drag down the notification bar on the screen lock if you don't have an unlock code/pattern etc? I see numerous people saying you can drag it down but mine does not and I can't find an option to activate it.
Thanks.

no, not if you have a screen lock enabled afaik
if you have a screen lock delay, you can do before the time is "up"
Thanks, shame there isn't the option to enable it with a secure pattern etc also.

i know.
if you use something like widget locker and missed it (both on the play store) you can show notification numbers for calls texts, emails and any other app. you can then tap the notification, it'll ask you the passcode and open the correct app

Hey guys...
Just wanted to post this little find. I haven't seen it posted before, so I apologise if I missed that thread...
Try this...
Open an application with the settings button in the bottom corner.
Switch off screen
Switch on screen
Do you have the settings button in the same corner? Press it... screen unlocks
Shortcut or flaw?

Oh wow, never noticed that before. I can't think of any benefit of it so it likely to be a bug.

The online kitchen over at MoDaCo has an option to disable 'menu key unlock'. I'm assuming this is referring to this issue (if it is an issue) but I may be wrong.

don't get this option. is it something to turn on in Settings?
Did you also notice that you can access the notification bar from the lock screen?
Can't be a feature, surely?

That is actually a feature. Quite useful if you don't have a pattern/pin/face lock setup.

Actually neither does the originally noted shortcut work when the pin is on

Can someone explain what the purpose of the settings button is in this context? Is it just another way to unlock the screen? Why does it only appear in the given scenario?
Also, why do the back and home buttons appear when you drag down the notifications bar?
They do not appear to be functional, but can be pressed. I suppose the back button makes sense, as it dismisses the notification panel, but the home button does not appear to be functional.
I opened facebook, the menu button was there. I turned off screen, then turned it back on. the menu button was there on my lock screen but when I pushed it, nothing happened. phone did not unlock. I use pattern unlock.

More than likely, the menu button being on the lock screen is just a glitch that really shouldn't be there. The good news is that if you have a lock other than the slide lock (Pattern, Password, Pin, Face) the the menu button on screen does nothing.
It's already been reported to google as a bug. It only happens if you have an insecure lock method (swipe, or none).
is there any way i completely remove the screen unlock ring
There's an app in the the play store called "no lock"

This does work but it seems to be hit or miss sometimes with my phone. After a few hours of inactivity the ring unlock is back. The other major downside is that this method leaves you with no screen security as you cannot enable a pin or pattern lock.

It looks like android kills it due to memory leak.
But I advice to install widget locker or go locker from market, they are heavy customizable and working good with sense disabling stock lock screen

Just installed Lollypop on my new M8. I can't find a way if turning off notifications on the lock screen but leaving them working on the notification bar.
The help says this.
"Lock screen notifications
Choose the types of notifications to show or hide on the lock screen. Go to Settings, and then tapSecurity.Under*Lock screen, tapNotification settings.Choose whether to show or hide notifications such as missed calls and text messages. "
But on mine, there is no "Notifications" under Lock Screen, just "Incoming Phone Calls". Has my install gone wrong? Do others have the correct menu item? Is there another way of turning off lock screen notifications?
Thanks.

Try this :
settings - security than reset your lockscreen. Reset it the way you want and it will ask you again to show notifications or not.
Worked for me for the lock pattern.
Thanks. That is one answer - I had answered to hide sensitive info but didn't like the opaque notifications. They'd be ok if they were transparent.
I've now found another way, not mentioned in the help and tips. Go to Sound & Notifications | When device is locked. However, that only gives on or off, not the sensitive info option.
I'd love to make them transparent again. Has anyone found a way of doing that?
I've also found you can turn them off app by app by pressing & holding the notification on the lock screen but then you never see another notification from that app until you turn it back on (Sound & Notifications | App Notifications).

Anyone?
Is there a way of making notifications on the lock screen (or the notification bar) transparent (or black)?

only they can be seen in task bar

Try opening the stock launcher once.
I think you are using custom launcher. If yes, then open the stock launcher one, and all the lockscreen shortcuts will re-appear.

I just came from Cyanogenmod, so I am not which features are specific to that but, I don't get any notifications on my lock screen, nor do I get cover art (when playing audio) or music controls.
Under notification settings, I have enabled"Show All Notification Content" when device is locked.
No apps are blocking app notifications on the lock screen
Under lock screen settings, Skip Slide Screen is set to off
Screen lock is set to PIN (policy pushed to my phone by my employer)
Not that I am running the latest pre-rooted system image (Z00A_WW_2.17.40.12)
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I was not getting lock screen notification until I posted yesterday, and it was suggested that I turn off keep slide screen. That did it for me.
