ok so i installed 4ex touch recovery and it said that the flash was successful after running it through the 4ex app, however when i reboot into recovery i still have the CWM recovery active.. Do i need to delete the CWM and re-install 4ex?
You can try the bootloader method. You probably already know how to flash in bootloader but here are the instructions anyway.
Download this: dl.dropbox.com/u/23303294/4EXT%20Recovery%20Touch%20v1.0.0.5%20RC3.zip
It's the latest 4EXT Recovery. After downloading, rename it to "PG32IMG.zip". (Note: It's not a CWM zip so it's not flashable that way.)
Put it in the root of your SD card.
If your ROM has the option, reboot into bootloader using the power menu.
Or turn off the phone, hold Vol Down + Power to enter bootloader.
When asked, press Vol Up to update the recovery.
Don't forget to delete PG32IMG.zip after you're done.

Try using fastboot, install the sdk if you haven't, extract the recovery_signed.img from the zip chilly linked to the platform-tools folder. Use the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img"

If you're s-off still, simply re-flash amon_ra recovery via PC36iMG.

Edito you know the thread where I could get it from?
As the previous poster said... if you still have S-OFF but need to get the custom recovery back you should be able to do that. Go to this thread and download the recovery image in the PC36IMG.zip format. You should then follow the instructions if the first post of that thread labeled "- the Bootloader way -":
- Place PC36IMG.zip on the root of your sd card.
- Boot the phone into the bootloader by powering the phone down, then press the power and the volume down buttons at the same time.
- Once the phone boots into the bootloader the phone will automatically recognize the zip file. It will ask if you would like to update, select yes and let it do it's thing and you will be good to go.

When i press volume down + Power button and go to HBoot
it tells me that i am using Clockwork MOD Recovery v3.0.0.6
i want to update it to latest version i downloaded recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-buzz and copy this Zip file on SD card and installed Clockwork MOD Recovery v5.0.2.0
i can see that it changes menu & font color into blue
but when ever i restarts or shut down the phone and go back to HBoot ( volume down + Power button ) i see the same old v3.0.0.6
any suggestions...
help
use this from your bootloader, you need to rename it pc49img.zip (make sure its not named .zip.zip) it should come up saying recovery update, flash? push volume up. after that let it boot to to the boot animations, the battery pull. take out the sdcard and then reboot the bootloader. then go to recovery and it should be up to 5.0.2.0
enjoy

Android Flasher...
I have used the following utility to flash the radio, bootscreen, and, just a while ago, the CWM recovery version to v5.0.2.0. As Buzz ain't listed on the list of supported devices, I used Other Device, booted the unit to flashboot, and flashed whichever I wanted by way of the interface.

Worst I've heard of is it just wont work unless you have the right hboot version and the right drivers etc,, just follow the guides correctly read them a few times first. I haven't heard of a bricked wildfire from unlocking and rooting as yet.

just the update.zip should do. are you definatly s-off?
yes i am s-off. still not working.
Some steps that I told to another person wanting to update their recovery.
Do you have fastboot?
do you have fastboot in with your SDK tools?
Download [RECOVERY][MOD][Wildfire][02-Nov-2011] Clockwork 5.0.2.7.111102
Extract the zip, and rename to recovery.img to make it simple in ADB.
move the recovery.img to the same folder as your fastboot is in so FOR ME it will be in C:\ ANDROID \ ANDROID-SDK \ TOOLS \ recovery.img
as fastboot is located in ANDROID-SDK / TOOLS / fastboot.exe
then follow these commands EXACTLY as I tell you.
reboot phone in to bootloader - Power off, then HOLD volume down and press power, use volume keys for up and down and select fastboot.
now, open command line and start ADB - This part I expect you to know if you have a rooted phone, but just in case run these commands: - start adb, remount, and open a shell - the commands are "adb remount", then enter "adb shell"
1) adb start-server
2) adb remount
3) adb shell
then enter the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
FINALLY, enter "fastboot reboot"
Recovery update complete... try rebooting into recovery to confirm this and it should show a new recovery
Click Thanks if this works
Am using the AAHT to root my DHD. Since its software number is 3.13. ,it prompted me to allow a downgrade which i did. SO it downloaded the zip file and pushed it to the root of my Sd card. But after when my device reboots, it doesnt downgrade.it tells me to hold the vol up and press the power button. When i do this it takes me to the blue recovery menu.it then tells me to press the power button again. After i do that it deisplays in the command promt that is downgrading but nothing happens. the phone instead boots into the bootloader and stays there forever. Am using a 64bit pc..please can anyone help me????/
Can you boot into recovery via "adb fastboot recovery"?
Before that I would pull battery and. Then holding volume down power on this should take you to recovery.
If you took a backup, try reflashing that.
I have rooted a number of HDs without downgrading so I would search google more.

You're trying from recovery obviously.
Power phone off
remove battery
replace battery
hold volume down+power button
hboot should scan for the PG32IMG.zip
once asked, tell it to update using that zip
wait for it to finish flashing
once finished, press power button to reboot.
Side note: Please make sure your phone is fully charged before trying to flash. If it is aborted, you may brick your phone.

Do you want to get root? Or flash a rom?

I had root access and I'm currently running a 10.2 nightly of cm 4.3 with a few glitches. So I want to flash a 100% working ROM. I can't boot into recovery with any app due to the fact it requires su permission and I have no binaries according to su. I cant get into recovery either using 3 finger method the Samsung logo appears with the blue words on the top left, but it doesn't do anything after that. ROM manager shows my recovery as twrp so I'm in a pickle....lol
And no on turning on root in settings.
Then you need to find a computer to flash recovery again via odin, otherwise flash a rooted rom via odin.

You can flash recovery without a computer.
Download the recovery image file, rename it to rec.img
Go into terminal emulator
Code:
su
dd if=/path/to/rec.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Be very careful when typing the second command.

That might be a problem I need to type su and since I have no binaries my terminal emulator won't have su privileges.

There isn't an option under settings --> developer options for root? At one time, they had didn't options for apps, adb, or both. You would need the both box checked for it to boot into recovery via an app. I haven't used it in a while, so I'm not even sure if they still do it this way.
And it is strange that you can't boot in recovery. Instead of the power off, then hold volume up, home button, and power....have you just tried to reboot the phone and when the screen goes blank hold the volume up and home? I've had luck getting into recovery by that.
Plus, if you are running CM, there should be a reboot option for recovery when you power off. Reboot --> recovery.
Last idea, have you tried to download goo manager from the market? That works well with TWRP.

Cm does have the reboot options, but it had to be turned on. Developer options doesnt show up under settings, but I remember there was a way to turn it on. I went under "About phone or Device" clicked on everything like 10 times and I forgot which 1 it was, but I unlocked developer options. Turned on reboot menu. Rebooted phone into recovery and although it took a while I got into recovery. Flashed a new rom and I'm back in action.
