[Q] SMS sent time issue on HTC One X - HTC One X

I noticed that SMS sent and received time are the same one HOX. I cannot find out the sent time if I got a message when my phone was shut down. Possibly because the stock program called System.currentTimeMillis() instead of Sms.getTimes**pMillis(). So do I have some easy way to get this right, or have some find a way to fix this? I don't want to modify the apk

HI, there is an app called SMS sent time (in the market), which fixed the ridiculous way that android displays the received time instead of the sent time for SMS..
ie yourphone is off, someone sends you an sms. 3 hours later you switch it on, and you get a message, that says sent 10 seconds ago.
with the above app, it will correctly display the time the message was sent.
Not sure if it needs root (I am on ARHD and it works).

Threaded SMS sending same message multiple times

Has anyone else noticed that their SMS's are automatically sent more than once. Yesterday a message I sent in the morning was re-sent 5 times, I didnt notice until the person receiving them asked why Id sent the same one multiple times.
I checked the Thread, the message sent time had been updated to the latest time even though that was after the next set of messages in the thread.
I looked in the Sent Box which is obviously empty in the threaded view, then in the Outbox, the message was still in there, it took a few attempts to delete it but I managed to get there in the end.
Anybody else noticed this?
Im using a home grown 6.1 using the pandora 9b1 kitchen...
i didnt notice this precise issue but i hated the way there was no message in sentbox and the sent message stayed in outbox for ages so reverted to ordinary texts
I'm not sure, but it might be related to the issue seen by the guys using the Palm 's Threaded SMS app... They have a theory over there that it's related to closing the app immediately...[post=1441023]
I had similar problem, when something happend with my 3G connection. Sometimes it stuck. I can't make a call, and no one can call me. ( 3G icon appears )And when i try to send sms, it stuck for a while, and then sends few sms's in the same time...

TEXT MESSAGE NOT SENT - constant problem

Guys, about 90% of the time when i send a text message, of any size, to anyone, i get a 'message can not be sent' notification and the phone vibrates, this happens about 2-7 times before the text message is sent, and for each time it tries to send the text again, this amount is send to the recipient, for example if it retries 7 times i will send the message 7 times - very annoying
when using the froyo rom from both paul and richardtrip i did not have this issue, although i am almost certain this was due to the stock messaging app, i even tried using handcent on the froyo which i used on the stock and on the froyo it worked perfectly too, but handcent will not work on the stock rom.
so it seems to me that it is an issue with either the stock (sense based) rom or the htc messaging app
im on tmobile UK on a branded phone, this happens on any radio, both rooted and unrooted
does anyone have any advice, or know of a way to replace the htc messaging app with the stock android messaging app?
if i could get this sorted id be very happy, so i appreciate any help
thanks in advance
I've had this issue happen a couple of times aswell, not sure how to replicate it, it seems totally random, but i haven't seen a 90% change of getting it!
try a new radio lol
This happens to me if I use any messaging system other than the default one (e.g. handcent or chomp) and the signal changes whilst sending the message (i.e. H to 3G or E to G etc. etc.)
I am still using the default rom with the latest update as I am waiting for 2.2 before rooting
turn off GRPS/EDGE/ 3G Data

Had exactly the same problem on stock/sense based verions of romms. NEver had an issue on stock android messaging app, only with the sense one. Think it must be a bug with that app. I'm T-mo in UK to but have an unbranded phone.
dont resend it, just wait until the message is sent, the phone resends automatically, because if you click the resend, it will send another message. what i do is when i get that error message i just wait.
I'm getting this problem on my o2-uk Desire; they are sending me a replacement handset

Thanks everyone for your replies
So it is confirmed that it is an issue with the HTC messaging app but not with the stock android messaging app, and no messaging clients can fix this as they use the default messaging app.
Is there anyway to change the HTC messaging app with the stock android? I prefer it anyway it works much better, the official froyo release will also contain the stock messaging app which I guess will have the same problem.
I will try flashing a different radio
Setting the phone to WCDMA only does not fix the issue
I am having this problem, and also another which I feel might be related, it tries to resend the message, and it eventually goes. I have also noticed that quite a number of times when I try to make a call, it doesnt dial, it just goes silent and returns to the call register screen. Maybe both related to a siganl problem . Somebody suggested switching off Edge or whatever, but thats not really a fix, and why should you have to do this to send a text. ?

I agree, and I also experience the same problem, sometimes during a phone call the most strange sounds happen and then the call cuts out, I'm guessing is interference. Problems with calls, text messages, and the connection repeatedly drops when using the mobile internet, exactly the same problems as the hd2, they will not get fixed by HTC, speaking from experience.. very basic requirements of a phone still not being met
I have the exact same issue with both texts and calls that seem to take ages to connect and then just dump me back to the dialer. I've put it down to O2 being so awful but of people have the same issues on other networks id love to know

I get it off and on, but I let it be and the messages eventually get sent out.

Same here. I did the resending thing for a while, but now I just ignore those error notifications. The text messages arrive anyway

same. I get it 10% of the time. On a unlocked Desire with a UK T-Mobile contract. just leave it to send a couple times, put your desire on a window sill and it should be okay.
but i think the message is not automatically sent if you lock the phone. can anyone confirm this? my unsent message was still not sent when i locked my phone.
As mentioned earlier in this thread, i used to get this issue all of the time when using handcent or chomp. However, since doing the following i've not had it happen once in 2 weeks (where it would happen 10+ times a day before)
1) uninstall any messaging software you have downloaded from the market
2) download sms unread count and sms popup from the market
3) put the sms unread count widget on the homescreen
4) configure sms popup to your liking
5) send messages to your heart's content
This uses the default 'messages' app rather than anything else and works perfectly

Timestamp on SMS

I just purchased my HTC Desire yesterday (and it is LOVELY)!
But for some reason the datestamp for INCOMING sms texts are all wrong. it is like 4 hours behind, but the outgoing timestamp is correct.
is there a way to check the settings? I don't know why it's like that. I dont know what time people texted me.
Thanks for all the help
Ensure to set date and time correctly, from Menu options
That defines your phone internal clock, regardless what you want to see in the clock widget..
To simplify thing, better to opt for "current" in the location options
from my Desire + XDA App
what do you mean? I set the date and time correctly. And when I go into location it only shows
use wireless networks and use gps satellites
(i dont have a data plan)
the desire dosent timestamp a sms when it receves it, instead it uses the one given by the sms message centre that sends it to you .....
so you mean my provider? because the received sms time is correct on my previous phones..
What he means is, it'll use the time from the phone that sent it to you I believe.
I SMS internationally; and it's quite annoying because it will move their message up in between mine and thread mine. He's in Canada, I'm Australia so he's behind so I have to go searching up through my messages to find it.
eg:
his reply goes here:
me 3pm: message

No what i mean is, when someone sends you a sms, it goes from there phone to a sms message centre, and then gets sent to your phone, the desire uses the timestamp given to the sms at the message centre so there nothing wrong with your phone, it even happens to me for some reason, if i reply to a sms straight away it appears above the one i just receved
happens to me as well. i just use "sms time fix" from the market, and ive enabled all the options in there cause it wasnt working on just by setting the hours in advanced. now my msg times are good, but it now uses my phones time. atleast it shows the proper time now.
thats weird.. i know what you mean sorta, but i get texts locally. so shouldnt it be the same time? and yea, it moves above mine as well! it's four hours behind (even though it was sent after me)
is there a way to change the sms message center time or anything like that (i doubt that lol) because my friends who text me are local too

[Q] Gingerbread SMS time (Ginger Villian ROM)

Hi all, I recently installed the excellent Ginger Villian ROM on my HTC Desire but have noticed an issue with the SMS time that is displayed when you receive a text.
Previously I have been used to the text displaying the time that the text was sent not the time my phone received it. Has anyone else noticed this?
For example, if I have my phone on airplane mode or turn it off over night any texts I receive in the morning show the time that I just received them (rather than when the sender sent it).
I have also tried using Handcent SMS but the same problem exists. Is this just a Gingerbread 'quirk' or is there a way to get round this? I know it's not a major problem to most people but I like to be able to tell what time someone actually text me...
Any help is appreciated.
I think I have found the solution myself (although will probably have to wait til tomorrow to test it)
In Messaging click Menu, Settings and then scroll to nearly the bottom of the list. There is a box that says "Use original timestamps" which says will "Display and store sent date instead of reception date". This sounds like it'll do the trick.
Hopefully this might help some other sad people out there who want to time sent like I do

Receive Text Message with Part of an Old Message THEN 1/2 the New Message?!

Hey Forum,
I have had a HTC One X since release, overcome the flickering issue via the self-update... but now I have encountered a new problem!
When I receive a text message from someone, I sometimes receive part of an old message dating back a week and then it cuts out some of the new message so I get a completely jumbled up text message!?
I have never encountered a problem like this before. I have reset the phone back to Factory Default to see if this helps .... it doesn't.
Anyone know of a fix for this or suffering from the same problem?
If there is no fix I will see about getting a new phone. But.
I am on Orange as a network provider, but I bought it through Phones 4 U (in UK) via telephone. So I don't know if there is an easy way for me to get a replacement handset...is there???
I have no insurance on the phone, but I'm thinking of getting it then a month later *accidently dropping* the phone and claiming a new one. Is this a viable option...???
Let me know your thoughts.
Thank you for reading, hope someone can help me out. Flack.
im not sure i understand completely.
is the problem like this:
text 1 message body (from a week ago as you said): hi on way home, make sure dinners ready
text 2 message body (the new message): that dinner last week was really nice
the message you see (corrupted one): "hi on way home, week was really nice" or "week was really nice hi on way home"
is the above what happens?
Whoh

Hi Lawrence750,
It is an extremely hard problem to understand, but you have described it VERY well..
It is like: "hi on way home, week was really nice" for the corrupt message!
That is what happens, it doesn't happen alot, but it does happen and it is confusing at times!
Thanks for your reply.
You could try using a different sms app, it is hard to decide whether it's the network or the phone. If different sms app doesn't work, probably worth giving your network provider a call, they'll likely send you a new sim card at first which I guess would also have a chance at solving the problem
Btw are they mms or sms messages?
