Yo, run ddms from where you android-sdk is. Go to Tools and DDMS will be right there. On the top right you have options to portrait the screen. You may use that.

Well, this is good to know. I have never used this and can see how it could be useful in a bad screen situation. very cool.

How to Wipe Phone WIth Broken Screen

I have a phone that has a broken screen. I am selling it for parts and would like all of my information off of it. I know how to use ODIN and ADB.
Are there commands through ADB that I can use to wipe the device? Is there a full-wipe ODIN image that I can flash to the phone? I would like it to be free of my data before I send it off.
I tried using Android Screen Cast, but all I get is a black screen when I open the program. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I know, ODIN back to stock wipes data, but I may be mistaken.

Thanks for the link. I ended up finding it before you had a chance to link it. Now ODIN is stuck on cache.img.ext4. And it has been stuck there for about a hour.

I do not remember if odin wipes your internal "sdcard" , be sure to check /mnt/sdcard , and delete anything you don't want to the next person to get ..
EDIT: You may have to "su" in the shell ..

Broken E4GT...How to completely wipe the device?

I was standing at the bus stop, and somehow I dropped my E4GT. And guess what? Screen cracked! Didn't want to pay to get it fixed, and picked up an iPhone 5 (No flaming Lol) I want to sell it though. Put it into download mode (Volume down + Power if I remember correctly, because I have an S3 now). ODIN a stock ROM. It should take care of the recovery and ROM. Not sure about how to access the internal memory (your personal storage) from a computer since you have no access to the screen, but I'm sure you could use ADB somehow?
Yea, Its the Internal Storage that I want to wipe. Hopefully someone knows a solution!
Does it happen to have Usb debugging/adb enabled? Is it rooted with a custom recovery?

Connect to a computer and start up a command prompt. I'd take out any micro sd card if you have one. Hopefully you have the Android sdk already installed to use adb? From here on out don't type any quotes I use, they're just showing what to enter
Type "adb devices" and it should show one if all is well. If you need some data on it enter "adb pull /sdcard/ C://wherever you want it to go"
Then enter "adb shell"
Then "rm -r /sdcard/" and it should hopefully delete it all. You may have to give the "su" command first. I believe this all should work but anyone is free to help out
Also, to check after you're done, enter "cd /sdcard/" then "ls" and there shouldn't be anything there.

In the dev section there is a tutorial on how to restore a phone from soft brick. I realize you're not actually soft bricked, but it has instructions about sideloading zip files to recovery. Might help you.

If you're using TWRP you can go to advanced>adb sideload and use the 'adb sideload <filename>' command to push a ROM to the phone which will then automatically install. That way you can avoid losing root.

Need Help Desperately! LGOG Stuck in CWM

Something happened to my phone while it was in my pocket tonight, I pulled it out after work and it's on the CWM main screen it tried to install some update zips that failed and now I can't reboot my phone, so it's pretty screwed up right now.
I can't seem to mount USB storage so it appears on my laptop, I figured if I could do that it would be as simple as flashing a new ROM but it doesn't seem to work.
Any help is appreciated, I will be watching the thread since I need this phone to work as I use it as my primary line.
I seem to have ADB access and my 3 backup files from FreeGee, they are aboot-sprint-backup, boot-sprint-backup and recovery-sprint-backup. Are those what I need to use to restore my phone and where do I flash each image to?
Do you have a ROM on your SD currently and have you wiped system.

No I've never flashed a rom yet on my phone, was waiting for a more polished CM10.1. I've also wiped everything I can, system, davlik, cache, battery stats, fixed permissions.
What may have happened, and I'm not sure how it ended up into recovery mode, was I had the system update notification popping up and I kept hitting install later. Now some how my phone just unlocks itself and accepts and installs the update?! I have no idea, this phone quite literally has a mind of its own. It does complex operations with no one inputting commands.
Lgnpst might be the way to go. Hit up the irc.
Edit: don't leave your phone in recovery too long. You might hard brick.

I actually just found the side load a zip on the menu so I'm gonna try that as soon as I get a rom downloaded.

The issue is the reboot to recovery flag is set in your misc.
Run these commands from an adb shell to clear it:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc of=/data/media/misc-bad-backup.img
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/misc bs=1 count=1088

[Q] Pull files from boot looping state

Hey fellaz,
Earlier, I was installing some apps for a custom keyboard. I was notified by Android that I needed to update the APK installer (I cannot remember the exact dialog) which I installed. After that, whenever I tried to open ANY .apk file, it kept saying the installer has stopped working. Couple minutes later, the phone rebooted and was stuck in a loop.
I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856188&page=4 , but I am completely new to working with ADB. I did manage to install the SDK and update it. I booted into Recovery mode and tried the command 'adb backup -all' (given in another thread) and I was given "adb: unable to connect for backup."
Unless I did something wrong, I doubt ADB would work since I'm not booted into the phone right? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30826050&postcount=32)
I would just like to back up maybe one or two folders that are crucial to me.
Any advice? Is there anything Verizon can do if I take it into the store?
Thanks!
EDIT: Forgot to add that I have the phone completely stock. I'm debating whether or not to do a hard reset as I'm reading conflicting reports of sdcard being saved and not being saved.
Thats your problem. Adb works only on custom recovery's. There is a thread on flashing the stock image via fastboot without wiping data. I think thats your only solution..

hey, I really appreciate your help but I did a hard reset which fixed everything. I did however lose a lot of data (from my last backup).
Again, thanks for your help!
you do not need usb debugging for fastboot so do not worry about turning that on.
