Hi guys, I've been doing quite a bit of searching and can't seem to find the alarm clock I've been looking for. I know it exists because I had it in a previous ROM, the only problem is that I can't remember which ROM.
The alarm clock wasn't an app per say, as I accessed it through the normal Android alarm clock function. What made it so cool was that it had a 'smart alarm' that would play nature sounds at an escalating volume before the actual alarm went off. It was fantastic because it provided a much more peaceful awakening than the blaring alarms that come with most phones. I really want to get this alarm back, as it was by far the best way to wake up.
I know there are apps that do this in the market, but I was kind of hoping to be able to find the one I was using before. And just in case, what I do remember about the ROM was that it was a stripped down ROM with not too much in it (probably a stripped stock, but maybe not). It wasn't MTD (BML?) and it was a Gingerbread ROM. Other than that, I can't remember much about it, can't find it in my history and I deleted the file.
Any help is much appreciated.
That's the stock clockpackage.apk. what rom are you on currently?

Wow, it is indeed the stock package. I never would have guessed. I'm on Cyanogenmod 9 beta3 right now. That's probably why it didn't come with it, as it's for more than one phone. I found a version that works with ICS though, so I'm going to install that now.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate it.

Yeah the alarms won't work... but you could find the alarm sounds... they are located at /system/media/audio/alarms if I remember correctly. You can take them out of any touchwiz rom.

That's unfortunate. Having the sounds will probably be good enough though. Thanks.
Check out alarm clock extreme too. Its got lots of nice features like fade in and decreasing snooze times. Also has a feature you can enable to force you to solve math problems to turn it off.

Alarm Clock Plus is what I use every day. It has tons of options. Gentle volume increase, speak time before alarm, speak weather before alarm, math to dismiss, and it has an add on called "White Noizzz" that can play relaxing sounds on a sleep timer as you go to bed.
I combine it with Timeriffic so my phone is completely silent at night and turns up the media volume just before the alarm goes off. The media volume controls the text to speech so you won't hear it speak the time unless that's turned up.

You didn't like the Alarm that came with C9ß3?
I forget what it's called but there is another alarm clock app on the market that allows you to scan a barcode of something in your home and it won't shut off till you scan the same barcode. So like you can do the milk/juice or something in your fridge and it won't shut off till you head out to the kitchen to scan it.

Wow that's crazy. I used to put my alarm clock on the opposite side of the room high up when I was in college but I'd just turn it off and then fall back in bed. Heard of a motorized alarm clock with wheels that drives around to a new place every time you hit snooze. That's something else.

How about an old alarm clock and a tazer, then attach the electrodes of the tazer to the snooze button. Every time you press snooze, you get shocked half to death.

Anyways, go to the task killer app and uncheck the clock app there, simple!
now the task killer will not kill the clock app, thus your alarm will ring n u will never be late or work again!

You are welcome, and NO i dont wanna get banned
It may also be worthwhile looking into what is killing your battery time overnight - probably some sort of data tx/rx. Have a look around with Spare parts or something.
If you sort that out then you can dump the task killer, not always a good thing on Android.

By using a task killer, you are fixing the symptom, but not the cause.
As has already been said, killing the clock will kill your alarm, so nothing else needs to be said on that, but you clearly have an issue with a rogue app or something is keeping the phone awake if you are losing 70% battery overnight when it is not being used.
For reference, I lose between 5% and 10% overnight.

lol wut? why is he a "retard" for using his phone that has an alarm function o.o...
anyways as other have said you should check what is using up your battery.. (wifi left on maybe? ) also app killers arent as great as you probably think they are..
http://geekfor.me/faq/you-shouldnt-be-using-a-task-killer-with-android/
I have had problems with mine before where the phone froze for some reason and the alarm didn't go off but never had the problems you describe. I also mostly plug it in every night. With Li-Ion batteries it's best to keep then between 20 and 80% with a full discharge/recharge from time to time.
Check in the battery status to see what has been using the battery.

I can't believe the anamosity from some members on here. Have you really nothing better to do that trolling around looking for comments to rip into!?
If he or I or anyone wants to use their phone that... oh... happens to have an alarm function on it then why not? I just don't get what your point is with that one. Just because someone uses their phone as an alarm and then their phone has a problem they are incapable of "navigating through life". "Oh no... the battery in the alarm clock I bought went dead and the alarm didn't go off"- are you then a retard because the battery went dead in their alarm clock!?

I agree... there is absolutely no need to be disrespectful to other members here on XDA or anywhere else for that matter. Some people do not consider other people's feelings, and do not realise how silly/petty/childish they appear to be after accusing others of being retarded or noobs - it is not necessary and it's not cool.
As the OP stated, he is new to Android (and is still learning), would not have used a Task Killer on WM, and obviously did not understand the full workings of Task Killers... but i presume that he basically understood the purpose of the app. May be a little naive but it is a simple and honest mistake to make.

I too am making the change from wimo to Android. I also had the same issue as the first poster. Was greatful for the sollution but not the other bit.
99% of posters on XDA are very easy on what may appear "silly" questions but its how you learn.
Its the 1% that get all the rest going, there are a couple of forums that look like a war is going on. Very funny to look at, but must make New users wonder what the f**k's going on.
Anyway that my bit.. And again thanks for the sollution.
Hi, i'm searching for an app to record my dreaming's words. I would like it to record only when someone talks, is there any chance to find something useful to me?
haha i know what you mean! a voice recorder activated by voice so we dont have 6 hours of audio to look through
The only thing I could find while sniffing around was an app that does sound triggered recording, but only by dialing your voicemail number and recording it to that.
Sounds like a simple enough app to write though, perhaps there's a sympathetic Dev out there that could knock up an app for you.

I know what you mean.
My mother will telling me that I can answer her questions when I am asleep, but I can never remember doing that.
What you could do is just use a recorder, and record everything during your sleep. Then copy that sound file to your PC and use cool edit to open it, and look through the sound waves. When you see some big spikes on the waves go to them and see if youre saying anything. Might be kinda creepy though, who knows what kind of sounds you'll pick up lol
RL Watcher , it's in the Market.
That said, not too sure if the microphone is going to be good enough (Thanks to Samsungs settings, background sound is noisy!).
Maybe you should change your Title a bit to attract attention. You are looking at an app that can switch on the voice recording when the decibel level increases beyond pre-defined level.
Any ideas?
PS : This can be helpful in a lot of other situations too. You just need to know the minimum decibel level.

I have done a little RnD and made a little progress.
Whenever there is a sound a number is incremented per second of sound.
It works with my galaxy S mic very well.
THERE IS NO INTERFACE AT ALL
I want you to test it.
There is no fear of any harm.
The screen stays on as long as the app is active.
But as you may or may not know a black screen on the SGS is an off screen.
The way to work the app is
Install the app.
Set the phone down on your table/nightstand.
Open the app
Don't click anything
Go to sleep (you don't really need to sleep just speak in intervals in a moderately quiet room/simulate your bed room/simulate your sleep voice)
Hopefully make noise in your sleep. Not very loud noise is needed.
Wake up
Press the menu key...you may have to wait a fraction of a sec.
A notification will give you 2 numbers.
Tell me those numbers.(You can round off NO 2 if you want to)
If first number is > 1 then you are successful else not successful.
EXIT THE APP WITH THE BACK BUTTON
If you exit with another way then you may have to restart the phone to get your mic working fine again(stupid mic implementation of mic on SGS).
Test it and tell me how it goes.

I don't know about that for now.
The app is still in its alpha stage.
We can keep it in a proposed list of features.
Right now the app only lists number of seconds you have been making noise.
The SGS has a weird implementation of AudioRecoding
I am still going through the docs.
Once I manage to implement the recorder, more features will be added.
Please reply with the values you are getting from the app.
Thanks
Gonna test the app now

Be cautious... Just tried playing with this on CM7 #B30, and almost couldn't get it off my phone. Also, didn't appear to work properly (I'm guessing its a Gingerbread issue). Not sure if these results are typical, but I had to reboot 3 times, uninstall through both the market, and app manager, and without being able to do nandroid yet, I was a little nervous.
Idea sounds great though. It'd be a fun trick to show friends, that's why I gave it a shot.

the transparent status bar is coded in a way that it's part of the SecLauncher. this is the same for the wallpapers. if you use a non-stock wallpaper, it won't be transparent up there even if you are using the stock TW Launcher SecLauncher. my first mod for the phone will be with the SecLauncher to improve it so more will like using it. later i will just mod the SysUI for those that want a transparent status bar while using a 3rd party launcher.
in regards to Settings grouping, there may be a firmware update later that will allow you to change it back to non-grouping. was it LG that did something similar with their Optimus G line? they had this option to change from day 1 so i don't see why Samsung wouldn't enable it in a firmware. however it's possible that they never allow this. but i'm with you on that. i had to look for things longer than normal on my bro's phone because of this.
Sound quality when listening to music... is absolutely horrible. Spent a few months with an iPhone 5 and got used to awesome sound quality. Decided that I ultimately couldn't stand the limitations so I switched back to Android. Only to realize that, as a music lover, sound quality means a lot. And this device needs some serious tweaking.
I tried the Equalizer app from the Play Store. Still has a lot of crackling and popping in the background when playing music via Play Music.
If anyone knows an equalizer app that works flawlessly on this device please let me know. Otherwise I'm stuck waiting for CyanogenMod and their awesome EQ.
