I live in Canada, things are always messed up and confusing--Justin Bieber, Shoveling snow in the summer, igloos and especially cell phones. I am not too fimiliar with the SII family, but I just want to know, if this phone is the same phone as Samsung Galaxy S II X T989D. If there is a difference, is there a difference in terms of rooting, s-off and etc? Please help me out. Thanks a million!
There is no difference. The phone is identical except that that is the telus variant.

Yep the specs are all the same and I believe all of the T989 ROMs you see are available to flash for yours, just locked to a Canadian carrier instead
Just don't flash any radios. Probably meaning no ics for you yet.

Telus is getting ICS June 12, does this mean that the T989 will in a sense be getting it to? (Please say it is so! )

Hey.
I got my Galaxy S3 with wind. I wanted to know when the official jellybean update is coming out?
And also if not how can I custom mod it to get jellybean for the Wind mobile version. Also what kind of mod from which service provider is the sane as that of Wind Mobile?
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda app-developers app
Do a Google search for wind mobile sgs3 cm10.
Here's what I found so far

You can flash any T-Mobile US roms but NOT modems.
Nobody knows when JB is coming out for anyone.
If that's true and I believe it is. Flash the cm10 or euroskank nightlies.
A lot of people like aokp, as well.
We are all still waiting for official jellybean. I think September was mentioned. Not sure if Canada gets it sooner than America or not. Europe usually goes first if I recall.
Remember you have to root your phone first. Read the stickies in the dev section

I'm starting to get the OTA update from Wind, but I think because my phone is rooted it keeps failing to install.
Anyone else having the same problem?
I'm new to the gs3 just moved on from the HTC sensation. I have a question. Can we use the same roms from the international gs3 on this one? Sorry if this has been asked just couldn't find it

No

Only flash ROMs made for the specific carrier. If you flash an international ROM onto a T-Mobile galaxy s3, your phone will be hard bricked and the only way to unbrick it is to get it JTAG'd, which can cost around 60$.

U can't flash any of the international version roms, but the stateside variants are flashable..
sent from GS3 disguised as a GNote2
most ATT roms should be directly compatible with little effort for our tmo GS3. However, do not flash an ATT modems, that will brick your phone for sure.
I also recommend you use TWRP, seems to be less issues with it. good luck and welcome
I suggest you stick to flashing only what you find in this forum. At least until you have had time to get used to your new device. You will run into quite a few conflicting reports on what does or doesn't work well with this phone. Give it time and you will figure out for yourself which are right and which are wrong.
We have plenty of roms and a number of ports from the other carriers so it really shouldn't be necessary to go flashing anything from somewhere else.
Use the other forums for reference, ideas, and learning more about your phone. If you find a mod or app you want to try, just ask if your not confident about it.
Good luck and welcome!
Oh, just fyi, the reports about the i9300 and i9305, are correct! Do NOT flash any roms or mods built for those! Guaranteed Brick!!

Hi all,
I'm going to buy a Telus 4G Samsung Galaxy S II™ X, However, I have some question:
1. Can I unlock the bootloader and install any ROM?
2. What is the latest official firmware? Is Samsung going to issue a JB?
3. How is the battery life?
4. Any advice
Thank you in advance
1. Yes
2. Telus has released 4.0.3 I believe. JB is supposed to be official for this phone.
3. It's ok, maybe gets through the work day, depending on usage.
4. If you do flash a ROM make sure it's for the t989 and not the international s2.
Enjoy.

Thank you very much.
Only thing I have to add is that the Koodo ROM floating around here doesn't work well with Telus as it has the Koodo AP baked into it by default. I'm loving CM 10.0.0 on this phone.

I'm on Telus and the Koodo ROM is amazing. You just have to manually add the APN (settings are listed in the thread).
CM10 is great too but TW ROMs have better call quality and battery life in my experience.
With Koodo V5 I typically do 2-2.5 hours of screen time, 1 hour of voice calling daily and I'm still over 20% when I plug it in at night.
the official android release is 4.0.4 now thats what I had when I purchased my SGH-T989D from Koodo. Telus and Koodo are practically the same I think?
Hey guys.
I'm also planning on buying the T989D. Could someone confirm that on the T989D we can flash any roms for T989 (t-mobile) ?
Can't wait to join the T989 community.
Thanks a lot.

I've never personally tried to flash any roms that weren't made for the t989.....not sure why someone would want to...since there are tonnes of roms made for our device.
If you're new to the phone....I'd stick with t989 roms for now.
The telslu radio is the t989dtlle4.
Yeah I'll stick to T989 roms to be on the safe side. It's gonna take time to try them all out anyway

Hey guys. I have an altell galaxy s2 and i have absolutely no idea why this thing is still running 2.3.6. As far as i can tell, its most similar to the epic touch 4G. Im just wondering if any of you guys know how to go about rooting this phone and what Roms need to be flashed to it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Google searches have really done nothing but confused me. Most of them lead to post where people complain about the phone not being updated.

Well thanks for pointing that out. Though I never herd of a altell variant of the galaxy s II
Edit: Did some research for that model number and its not a known model number for major carriers of the GSII, though it had in parentheses "(U.S Cellular)"

....
Yes. It's the USC variant. I'm assuming Alltel is using the same one.
AFAIK that variant isn't quite the same as our E4GT. I know there was some ROMs by a former XDA member who's name shall not be named or you get an instant permaban from XDA... not really but it adds a cool drama effect right?
Check out the archived development over at Android Central.

I've found a thread with instructions on getting cm9 on this phone. I still can't believe the spell version is so unsupported. Its a galaxy s2, I figured there would be plenty of ROMs.

Ok...I'm finding it difficult locating phone specific ROMS for my Note 2 from rogers (canada) I know there is alot of ROMS out there but after flashing it says I have a nexus or some other flippin phone and its buggin the crap out of me..I've noticed that the s4 is all setup nice all variants of canadian models, u.s. models and International .. it's easy to find what you're looking for..whatever it may be concerning the s4 and it's only been out for a few months..why isn't the note 2 setup that way?? Maybe I'm looking wrong or something I dont know..can someone help please....thanks

Rogers,Tellus,Bell ect are all identical to the At&t version. The roms in this section will be compatable
So I will never see SGH-I317M in my phone settings again? Instead Nexus or whatever other crap model it displays??

Many developers include custom carrier files including Rogers, Bell, Telus. When I was running clean rom it stated 317M. I run JediX now and it says 317. That SGH 317M really does not mean much, it only indicates a Canadian version of the phone.

It'll just say GT-N7105. Doesn't mean anything. You can edit your build . prop to say i317m if you want.

It's a nice clean base to work with. Telus generally doesn't bloat too much and I personally feel a bit better knowing the base was specifically released for the M. Plus all the Canadian CSC stuff is in the base too and some peeps like that (APNs etc)
