OK this is kinda newbie like me but if u have a kernel in zip format u can extract the image out and flash it with mobile Odin and your all set. It helped me get calks latest kernel on blue kuban rom . Now if we could just get a update on the os itself that would be great
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
lol blu kuban has a rom updater and theres multiple threads with the fe22 kernel in it.. but yes, you can extract the zimage...
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
The from updater don't list any fe22 kernels yet. And I like rogue recovery on the latest
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Try using ZArchiver. Get from the market. Use it to unzip to moble odin and flash away. That's what I've been using and have had know problems with it at all.
Good luck and happy flashing.

ya now we can update our modems and kernels. roms on the other hand u gotta wait for developer. go kuban update your rom. u can do it ucan do it all night!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Also if you go to the ACS site they have a new kernal package for the new ICS roms. I've using them and have had no issues.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I like acs I do but there recovery is odd. As in the buttons. Execute is menu button or power button and gets me all mixed up when coming from rogue recovery. Acts was the first custom kernel I saw but I held out for calks kernel as its packed with rogue recovery. Don't wanna risk flashing a bad recovery kernel otherwise you'd have to Odin to get it up and running again

Use agats modified acs recovery in the dev section if u need it. Power button is to select and there is a menu go back button or u can use the hardware back button. There's nothing wrong with it as long as you don't wipe data from it or try to flash a rom from there.

You should always go back to GB, unless going to a stock leak and then odin straight to is fine in that case. Or you can take the risk of frying with an ICS kernel not being able to go back to anything. I took the risk many times but its inadvisable.
Mobile Odin or Odin the el26 kernel and flash from that recovery. There is no need to go back to GB. Your phone won't boot up with that kernel by the way, hold power and volume up to get into recovery.

I use this to go back to GB EL29 from QBking....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7pWjmKCsoc
Then install CWM, is this okay or am I pushing my luck?
Found it on this sticky thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
If you want to go back to GB first odin with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101
Then use this tool to install the zImage of EL26+CWM (not rogue):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728
Going back to GB is not necessary but do whatever you're comfortable with
I use the same method revamper posted. Flash the EL26 kernel with mobile odin then as the phone is rebooting, hold power and volume up to boot into recovery. No need to flash a GB rom, just the kernel will do. It's safe to do a full manual wipe/factory reset with the EL26 kernel as well. Mijjah does a great job of explaining why to use EL26 in the Q & A section in the second post here.

thanks to all, maybe i was going a little overboard
Annnnd i took the mobile odin plunge. Just flash the el26 kernel provided by mijjah in his aokp/4.0/ics thread. Hold down power and volume up right into recovery. Now I can go back to gb or to ics using this method. Thanks again to all.

No go to his fe22 odin one click thread and use that to go to stock twiz. From there update prl/profile. Then you can go ahead and mobile Odin the el26 cwm kernel and ref lash to whatever rom.

I had that same problem on Frankenstein's last night. No matter what I tried they wouldn't update so I ended up going back to Calk's ROM. And I really liked Frankenstein's ROM and wish I could of stayed on it longer.

You can still flash a GB kernel even though you have a ICS ROM installed. It won't boot the phone completely(it'll freeze on the Samsung Galaxy SII screen on startup). But you can still get into recovery and download modes. That's the benefit right there. You don't need to flash all that though. Which ROM do you want to be on? The part about using Odin to go to FE22 and then go to EL26 has an extra step in it. You really don't need to flash the FE22 before going to EL26.

Ya some of them have CWM or a different custom recovery. What ROM is it that you want to install? What I mean is you don't need to flash to multiple other kernels/ROMs before eventually going to whichever ROM you want.
Go to the dev section and find sfhubs fe22 Odin one click and flash your phone with that. The reason you do this is so you will be on a stock rom where you can update prl and profile. After you do this, using Odin (with only auto reboot checked in top right corner), flash the el26 cwm kernel. Boot into recovery and from here you can flash back to Frankenstein or blazer whatever you want. You will need a computer.
So...
1. Fe22 Odin one click
2. Boot into fe22 stock rom and update prl/profile
3. Odin the el26 cwm kernel
4. Flash whatever new rom you want.

Doesn't need to be fe22, but needs to be stock touchwiz or close to so you can update prl/profile and that rom will let you do so. No problem, I'm ways here to help.

Did you try booting into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, reboot, then try to update again?
I just rooted my ET4G and I am wanting to install CM9 but i am sort of comfused. Am I still supposed to flash EL26 kernel via odin before I do!? Or do I just straight download and flash ROM + Gapps? With this kernel/recovery... I installed team rouge CWM that the guide shows any help thatnks!
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Yes odin/mobile odin to el26+cwm. El29 has rogue repack recovery which can brick when flashing to or from ICS. EL26+cwm was the last kernel to have official cwm recovery.
Here's a link to stockcwm-el26.tar.md5: http://db.tt/0QJkleJR

Yes, but when you flash a new rom the kernel is replaced with whatever kernel is included in the rom. So you will have to reflash the el26cwm kernel every time before switching to a new rom. ICS roms won't boot with the kernel, so when switching from ICS to ICS or ICS to GB you will have to hold power+volume up as soon as phone starts to reboot to get into recovery.
Sent on HyDrA with S Voice using Tapatalk 2
I would also suggest having the rom/gapps/kernel you want to flash already downloaded and on your phone before going to el26cwm kernel once your on any ICS ROM.

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
All it does is take you to the recovery screen I bought it just to donate used it a lot when going to ICS from gb or vice versa
Personally I would rather use Mobile Odin to flash back to EL26 CWM Recovery and then flash the ROM through there. Since we don't have an official ICS kernel yet this is the safest way of doing it as of right now.
ROM Manager isn't really made for our phones and can easily cause a brick...use el26 kernel w CWM to flash anything for now.

Is this really a bad recovery to be using. I always used clockwork on my HTC devices and when i rooted my epic touch i ended up with agat. Would it worth going through the trouble of installing a new recovery to get clockwork?

Sooooo, is it worth keeping or should i go through the trouble of installing clockwork.
And if i use Odin lite and flash the gb kernal with clockwork i can them boot into recovery and flash whatever i want?
And one more thing. I have a usb jig coming in the mail. If i am going to be doing all that should i wait till it comes in in case i need it or is it simple enough that i shouldn't worry.

Agat recovery is good for touchwiz based roms. I have flashed many ICS roms and zips using this recovery.
Regarding your questions if you want to flash a new rom follow the instructions in the OP of that rom, don't over complicate things. I use el26 recovery to flash roms. I load that using Odin from PC.
Its good to remember kernel and recovery are combined with this phone. Keep agat. If you want to go to jellybean get el26 kernel by chris41g. Also remember you will have a new kernel and recovery after you flash something.
