Ok, so I updated from build 3.0.1.B.0.270 to 3.0.1.B.0.285 through pc companion and lost root access (which is unacceptable). So then I flashed back to .270 then rooted through flashtool then searched for an OTA for .285 (because I read on another thread that OTA was the only way to retain root on .285) but the search said "No Updates Found". Anyone have any idea why it wont find an update and if it is not possible to do it OTA then is there anyway (other than pc companion or flashing) that I can update to .285?
Xperia Play r800at
Just flash the 4.0.2.A.0.42 firmware with flashtool and then root it using the zergrush exploit, which is included already in flashtool. You can download the firmware from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313505
So would that be exactly the same as the stock .285 build for the r800at?
No it is different. The ota to .285 is available. Just try it again and maybe give it sometime before trying the update again. Its how I got to .285 keeping root.

check your internet connection..make sure you update it through wifi
I think i will stay on .42

Root .42 & Update to .62
If u want to update OTA ........
a) Your Boot loader should not be unlocked (Default setting by Sony Ericsson)
b) Root your phone which is running on .42 firmware using the latest Flashtools v 0.6.8
Note :
i.First install Flash tool.
ii.Connect the phone in Flash Mode
iii.Flash it with 4.0.2.A.0.42
iv.Turn on the phone when flashing complete
v.Connect the phone with usb debbuging enabled.
vi.Open the Flashtool
vii. Then press the lock icon on flashtool.
viii.Phone will automatically reeboot after done
c) After rooting update your phone OTA
You can try using Wifi/3G/Edge
OTA Updating
Turn on data network and use the Update center app which is by default in your applist
If u have accidently removed it then i an uploading it to BOX for you to download

i have an xperia arc which was rooted 2.3.4 build .42
I updated over PC to .62, lost root. Now I want to revert back to .42, how can I do that safely
I used flashtool to root previously, prefer to use that again. Can I flash .42 back with no problems
Thanks in advance.
Zyar
yah no problem at all ,you can use flashtool and you can root again then update thru OTA update so your root will still remain .
That's the question. I have an Arc S with .58 firmware (downgrade from .62 because I wanted to root). I tried to OTA but I wasn't able to, apparently beause I don't have a generic firmware.
1) Is it worth to downgrade to .42, root and then update to .62? I ask this because the ICS is rolling out. Will I be able to root OTA to ICS, though I've a rooted phone?
2) Is it possible to update my rooted phone to .62 with PCCompanion?
3) In any case of updating (via OTA or via PCCompanion) will I loose my sdcard data?
Addition: I've installed an app called CWM Auto Installer and made a Nandroid backup. After the update to .62 firmware will I be able to restore this backup and use it without any problems?

1. I say yes because you can have root access even though ICS is coming out. Also you can't update OTA to ICS, they're going to make you update to ICS through PC Companion
2. Yes, but if you update through PC Companion, you will lose root access.
3. No, it shouldn't affect your SD card data
4. I believe you can, but don't take my word for it.

additionally it is best if you put all apps that you moved to the sd card back to phone so that you can put them in sd after flashing to ICS
I want to update my phone but It keeps getting an error
Rooted: Yes Zerg Rush Method With SuperSU and Superuser
Bloatware: Yes reinstalled
Build: 3.0.1.E.0.88
Believe me you do not want to update. With that said, you have to be unrooted to download the update, but once it's downloaded you can root and install the update. So unroot, download ota update, click update later (or whatever it says), root your phone, install update and enjoy your rooted 2.3.4 r800x.

Is there a website that i can find steps to downgrade upgrade so that I can unlock bootloader and root my arc LT15i.
Thanks
You can unlock the bootloader on any firmware... and just search your question up on xda or google
Thanks I thought someone wrote that you could not do that on .62 firmware but they maybe said that I cant root on .62.
Yeh you cant root on .62 so you have to downgrade to .42 and root on that and if you still want to retain the root and go to .62 you have to do an OTA update
Listen,u cant root firmware .62 directly. However, there is a loophole. First,u need to flash firmaware .42. Then, root firmware .42 using zergrush rooting method( there is a thread somewhere in development). After that, check ur update app in the phone and u will get firmware .62 OTA notification. Just download and install it. This is the way to get firmware .62 rooted.
*u must be on locked bootloader
*make sure u dont delete anything after rooting firmware .42
*if u dont get the firmware .62 notification, its not my fault

I presume I once was on .42 and I updated to .62 firmware...
Can anyone tell me what, if any, difference is there between the two.
I have read that some of you have found that the phone is laggy on .62 and went back to .42
Is it maybe too much for the original Arc being on .62
And also I have read once you unlock the bootloader and downgrade, if you want to upgrade again, you have to relock the bootloader?
Thanks for any info
check this out its an excellent thread..
