[Q] How to add/remove homescreens - HTC One V

Hello guys,
I was wondering, on HTC One V how can a user add or delete home screens?
By default the OS (Android 4.0.3) comes with 5 home screens (in the middle the main one with the caller/mail/messages/clock etc and the rest have widgets already applied)
I cannot see a remove button
If this "issue" can only be resolved by a 3rd party application (launchers) can you please recommend a FREE and very stable launcher?
Thanks a lot!

you can't add or remove the 5 homescreen on the stock HTC Sense launcher. I think you need to install 3rd party launcher such as Apex launcher, Nova launcher ect, if you want custom homescreen number. my recommendation is Apex launcher. install it for free at Play Store and if you like additional features you can install Pro version.

1. For the One V you can't add/remove homescreens. Maybe because of an inferior version of Sense 4.0 .
2. You can try launchers(Apex,Nova,GO). But it uses a big chunk of your RAM so you might see a bit of performance loss.

my phone shows that Go Launcher uses 42MB and Go Locker uses 10MB.

Any way to have 5 homescreen rather than 7 in Sense?!

I know... I know... but why?!
Why not?! For the time being, I'm barely using 4, so why the extra 3?! Any way to get it down to 5 for now?! Until more is needed?!
Try LauncherPro
Umm just curious but just don't go to the last left or right screen. The home button can take you back to the middle and you are good to go?
Launcher Pro is an alternative but perhaps you like Sense...well..Refer to first suggestion.

Obviously I know I can avoid the last 2 screens, but I was wondering if it was possible in order to avoid going to that screen by accident. It would also make it easier to select the proper screen when pinched out.
How different is Launcher Pro?! The only reason I like Sense is due to the widgets they have. Will the same ones work with Launcher Pro?!
Just switch to LauncherPro.

I totally hear you. If widgets weren't starting to get so big I think I would be pretty happy with 3.
No, Sense widgets will not work with LauncherPro (or any other launcher) but there are some good market replacements. Also LauncherPro is moving towards having it's own set of widgets that replace most of the functionality of sense, which I think is a great idea.
It is probably possible that someone could open up the Rosie (Sense Launcher) apk and edit a line somewhere to tell it to only have 5 screens, but I haven't ever seen anyone do it. It would only be usable on a rooted phone too, since Rosie is in the Nand, and you can't change it out without root.
ADW.Launcher. how many desktops would you like today? 1 or 7? with adw it's your easy to make choice. along with many many other swell customizations.
i have reduced my total number of desktops as well. i use SmartShortcuts to condense my more commonly used apps and place those icons on the adw bars.
it will have the same issue with widgets. if a widget has been written specifically for Sense it won't work. however, there are many nifty cool things in the marketplace.
for example you you can use:
SmoothCalendar - a calandar widget (there are many on the marketplace depending on style preference)
Beautiful Widgets - many folks love this product. (not a free product)
DigitalClock Widget - what i use to get time/date on my screen.
SmartShortcuts - allows me to keep a very clean main desktop...the 4 visible icons pull up custom application groups. (see chess screenshot)
i would also suggest trying out:
QuickDeskBETA - see screenshot with all the icons? that is QD, it will popup over top of any existing window simply w/ a long press of the search button. so i can turn on my screenshot tool without going all the way back to main screens or turn on 4G without having to exit the browser.
one last thing, i would suggest that you install either launcherpro or adw and play with em. what will happen the first time is this. when you click on the home button it will ask you which launcher you wish to use (Sense, adw or launcherpro). there is a check box that says 'make this choice default' ... check that button when you feel semi confident as to which launcher you wish to use. 2 days later when you decide that you want to try using Helix2 (or whatever) simply go to Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> go to the current default laucher and "clear defaults" (see the adw screenshot)

[Q] Homescreen 'snap-to-grid'

This question has been asked on a few other threads a while a go but there's never been a definitive answer ...
Is there any way to reduce the size of, or remove, the home screen 'snap-to-grid'?
A hell of a lot of screen space is wasted because it's so large
You will need to use an alternative launcher. Launcher Pro will allow you to do this, and its free.

What widget do you lose with launcher pro?
Only the HTC Sense ones or?
Also if you switch to launcher pro how do you stop htc sense from starting up?
Get a task manager that shows all apps and processes running. Once you install LauncherPro, press the home button and set the default homescreen you want. Then, kill the HTC processes and it won't load again in the background. Once every rebot do this, or set htc Sense as an auto-kill process only that, it should to the trick. Alternate options include imstalling a non-sense rom eg Cyanogen Mod or a senseless series rom. Hope I helped

AppWidgetPicker 1.2.3 (Confirmed) Works on ICS

I have confirmed that AppWidgetPicker work on ICS on Galaxy Nexus. If you are using a third party launcher. You should use AppWidgetPicker to better organize your widgets.
APK Link below.
That is all...

Push APK to your /System/App directory. Give all R/W permissions.
Someone should modify this for stock launcher. I can buy a coffee/beer for anybody who does

+1
Will definitely donate if someone gets this working on the stock launcher
Android's permission system means that apps cannot normally bind widgets themselves. (This is part of the reason you sometimes see missing widgets when you restore a launcher or WidgetLocker from Titanium Backup or similar). Instead the method third-party-apps use is to call another app (AppWidgetPicker, or a replacement for it like this one) which DOES have the permission because it's a system app (hence the unusual install process for this replacement).
The stock launcher is also a system app, and does have the needed permission to bind widgets itself. It's built to ONLY bind itself, rather than use a third party app. This means that the AppWidgetPicker replacement cannot be modified to make it work, however the launcher itself could be.
Curious, what don't you guys like about the widgets-in-drawer? The grid view versus the list, the lack of grouping-by-app compared with boombuler's mod? Both?

Yeah the lack of grouping by app is the worst thing, because certain apps have dozens of widgets and it takes ages to find the one you want. The iPhone style page-by-page side scrolling doesn't help either. I actually like how we can see previews of the widgets but the navigation is a bit of a nightmare right now.

Oh dear, there's a long list of reasons:
1. I now have 5 pages of widgets!!
2. It's visually shocking because everything is a difference size
3. You don't consistently get a view of what widgets will look like
4. It takes longer to get to and then find a widget
Add and app with 20 widgets built in and you'll see. It sucks in my opinion. We need a list based picker for sure, ideally one with a preview mode.
Since you're here... any chance WL can have an option to hide the soft keys on the Nexus so it runs full screen? Also the 'recent apps' button isn't deactivated by WL so it still pops up...
Thanks, works great with the new Nova launcher

Hi,
if you post my apps, please take at least the latest version...
Original thread + new version is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780828
Widget picker works with Jelly Bean 4.1 too as I've just tried it on my GNEX. Same procedure as the first post mentions.

[Q] How to lock 3rd party launcher in memeory?

Hi all,
The One X have this problem of re-draw all the widgets and folders in 3rd party home screen launcher when exiting an app. I've tried 3 launchers Apex, Nova and Go, they all have this problem, some re-draw more often than others.
So is there a way to lock launcher app in memory?
Many thanks
P.S. I'm running the lasted LeeDroid rom with Sense removed.
P.P.S. I love the hardware, but HTC sucks with software on this phone, this was never a problem with my other Android phones, and even after 5 weeks, we still having major bugs like SD space getting smaller for no reason.
Apex launcher let's you, go to apex settings then advance settings and at the bottom is the option to keep apex in memory

Thanks for the fast response, been a while since I used Apex, I tried the free version and it seems to work. I'll get the pro version so I can have multiple tabs in app drawer.

No worries, the latest update (1.29.401.11) fixed the missing sd space, I went from 14gig to 19gig free space just by updating

High resolution launcher?

I like Sense but there are some crucial limitations that bother me, like not being able to resize the apps or being able to define the number of rows and columns. I´ve installed Go Launcher but I´ve realized it doesn´t use the entire screen because it wasn´t probably designed for such large screens...or for such a large resolution. Either way, I was wondering if there are any launchers out there that can address this.
Try Nova Launcher. Lots of options esp if you use the Prime (paid) version.

Apex Pro launcher is pretty awesome - though there is resizing of widgets on this launcher, i havent found a way to scale the ordinary icons as i could on GoLauncher
what about editing dpi to 192 ?? that gives you a good screen
I´ve just installed Nova Launcher and so far it works great. The only thing I don´t like is the fact that you need to have an icon on the homscreen to access it´s settings instead of a settings launcher on the menu like Go Launcher.

You can access Nova Launcher settings via the app launcher menu. Not necessary for a home screen icon.

I'm using Apex Launcher, which is very similiar to Nova.
You can double tap on screen to access Apex settings.
This could be some for our chefs... http://betadan.com/paranoid/
Density can be changed differently for each app, and it also runs in tablet mode.
Forgot....I'm running it on my old HD2

Doesn't work on our one x

Been using LauncherPro Plus on DHD and think it is the best launcher for Android 2.X. However, it has not been updated for over 1 year. Still can work with ICS but got issue.
Tried both Apex and Nova for my One X, sounds good but Nova doesn't support overlap widget which limited desktop setting. Apex support overlap widget but didn't got the function to assign long press recent app button to launch the launchkey app (very useful setting for using LeeDroid Rom, Home button was assigned to recent app function, recent app button was assigned to meun and long pess it will launch the launchkey app which bring up quick access to some mostly used shortcut).
Really miss LaunchPro Plus which got all those above function!!!!
