I gave up with OTA's takes too long. I usually just wait until someone has a stock update zip and just do that. Im on 4.0.4 now and so far so good! Hope that helps.

Please refer to my post here and it'll answer your question
You could wait but that would be an indefinite timeframe OR you could just flash the stock yakju images (I'm not sure if you can do this if you are using CDMA though). If you're on a CDMA network, you might have to wait for your carrier to update it.

Hey man. This "Problem" has been fixed a few times already around the forums here.
You will most likely have the "samsung-updated" version of the galaxy nexus. I had that to.
There are a few types of Stock Roms on the Galaxy nexus right now.
- The stock ROM powered and updated by google (also known as Galaxy Nexus with yakju builds)
- Other ROMS that are powered and updated by Samsung or your cellphone provider
This basically means that you live in a place were not all functions accessible to Android are available (government rules) or you got a phone from such a batch by accident.
- What you need to do is unlock your OEM (you can re-lock it after the change to keep your warranty).
- Wipe your complete phone so it can become a dev phone (the OEM unlock) your phone does this by itself on unlock.
- Flash an official ROM from Galaxy Nexus itself.
- Re-lock the OEM again (or not. I have it unlocked and my phone still works)
- update if you haven't flashed the newest version (normal updates).
Your phone will be a Google Powered phone after that!
Here the instructions on how to do it:

Don't hesitate to send me a private message if this stuff is to hard for you. We can Skype or something and Ill help you set-up your phone.

Hello:
Thanks for the info. I have a google nexus phone with the problems described in this thread. I have a question before I try to go through the steps outlined in the instructions. When you say "Your phone will be a Google Powered phone after that", does that mean that the google nexus phone will be able to get updates over the air and become like google nexus phones from the play store.
Any info on this will be appreciated.
Again thanks.

Galaxy Nexus Not Finding Updates

Hi
I purchased my Galaxy Nexus when it first launched back in November from Handtec, the current firmware on my device is version 4.0.2. But for some reason it does not get the notification for OTA updates. I understand from reading the forums that the current version is 4.0.4 and that was pushed over two weeks ago. My device has not gotten the notification to update, I tried the framework suggestion that was suggested on another thread but I got no result I also tried the "check in" code and had no luck. My current carrier is AT&T, is my Nexus defective? Can somebody please help?
Thank you

If your phone is anything but yakju then your in for a wait. Also the 4.0.4 roll out has stopped until google fixes the signal issues some people have.
How can I identify if my phone is a yakju ?

Dude please read a bit. This exact thread exists every single day of the last week.
Check your version with this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.cbruegg.officialupdate
But the thing is that even if it is "yakju" (updated by Google). The 4.0.4 update has been stopped because it causes radio-related signal drop issues for some users. They recently issued a small 4.0.4 "fix" for it. Once things are sorted out, presumably 4.0.2 users will get moved straight up to the latest 4.0.4.

[Q] Embarrassing noOb question!

I'm not new to Android, just knew to the Galaxy Nexus/Stock Android World. I ordered one from NewEgg before learning many are receiving unlocked DoCoMo units, not true factory unlocked i9250's. Made a bit nervous!
Got it in yesterday and luckily the sticker in the battery cavity says i9250 and IMEI's match just fine. Once signed into the phone I received an OTA update to 4.0.2.
However, the update said this was an update direct from Samsung, not Google? So my question is, is that normal or do I have a Samsung build and not the Google Yakju build?
I'm honestly not sure how you know if you have Yakju or not. Here is what I have under "About Phone"
Model Number
Galaxy nexus
Android version
4.0.2
Baseband version
I9250XXKK6
Kernel version
3.0.8-gaaa2611
[email protected] #1
Build number
ICL53F.I9250XWKL2
Thanks in advance!
Check your build.prop, that'll tell you if you have yakju or not
there is an app in the market to detect which device build u have

Install GN Official Update Checker or Android System Info. You will be able to check it.
Thanks for the help!
Still stuck on the 4.0.2. Been swapped with work and life and finally found out my device is a yakjuXW. Meaning, it gets updated by Samsung. With the soon to be Jelly Bean OTA, I have to change this.

Nexus update on JB

Hello together,
I have got a question regarding the update of a GN. Everything on this phone is basically manufacture default. Its bought in Poland and used in England. Since JB should be OTA the phone should have a Message on that top scroll down screen when the update is ready - i guess.
Will the Update of that phone be received with Polish updates or with English updates and do i need to change any settings on that phone? Like download only by wifi and something like this?

I would guess that the update will be the language on the phone so if your language is set to polish you'll get polish updates, also you shouldn't need to change any settings to get the update, but if you're trying to force it you can clear data and force stop the 'Google Services Framework' app and then check for updates again, that made me get it instantly.

Go to settings->Apps->Swipe across to 'All'->Find 'Google Services Framework'->The Press 'Clear Data' and 'OK'' on the Dialog box->Then 'Force stop' and 'OK' on the dialog box->Go back to settings->'About Phone'->'System Updates'-> 'Check now'
The update should appear and download a few seconds after that, as I said it worked first time for me but for others it takes more than one try sometimes.

If you are running a build of Android other than yakju or taku, the Jelly Bean update is not out yet. You either have to wait, or flash yakju or takju as per this thread.
Well.. is the build version listet in that about phone window?
are those builds the stock once? can i check a page where it gives that information for which build it might already be out? thought the wonderfull thing is updates out as soon as android is released

Look at the Settings->About phone menu and read the Build number. If there are more than 6 digits in that field, you are NOT on yakju or takju, and there is no JB update for you yet. You are on some Samsung build.

there are several version of the firmware, some with location specific modifications.
if you want the version that comes straight from google without waiting on samsung, follow efrant's link.
thanks for the heads up .. but i cant be bothered to start flashing custom roms over custom roms just because google andoid is not able to provide an update for every stock version of the operation system ... and gave my girl that advice because they get the updates as soon as they are out..
so no difference to one X or the other galaxy phones .. a shame actually .. make me change onto something else with my phone

you only flash it once. thats it.
once you flash it once, you're done. they are factory images from google and any future updates come in a regular OTA update.
But its not my phone and i dont use android atm and i cant be asked to read me in this stuff since i got work to do and part time studies.
is there a list to see when the others will get there update? - still cant believe that sh1t

About that list, ask your carrier.
So, if you dont use android, cant be bothered by all of this, dont have the time, and its not your phone, and you and the owner have been mislead by advertising in your country, we cant help you. Still cant believe the attitude.
Sent from my i9250
the message for android on stock google nexus phones is updates as soon as google releases android .. what does my carrier have to do with this? he does not need to add stuff there.. its not even bought with the carrier

blame your region and blame samsung. it has been documented so many times that there's 3 firmware images that get updated directly by google. 2 of them are for GSM phones and the other is the verizon version (after carrier approval for vzw anyways)
honestly if you cant be bothered to spend 30min to use the solution given to you, you have no excuse. this is my last reply to you.
besides, its not even your phone.
i know its not my phone. but i will not flash another rom on a stock android rom. no reason for except of the build problem that is supposed to be the good thing about google nexus phones. so wp8 it will be for me
^Really? You come to a gnex forum get all your questions answered, get good advice from helpful members here, now cant be bothered and call the phone sh1t. Go buy a nokia candybar, you will be happier. :good:
i probably will .. at least they roll out updates as they come. cmon .. you have to admit that this update politic is supposed to be good for nexus phones and here it proves to be just as **** as on every other android phone on the market .. or whats the problem that this phone is not able to get the update? its not branded and not bought at any provider.

Galaxy Nexus Yakjup Update from 4.0.4

Dear All
I currently own a Galaxy Nexus GSM phone. I bought it here in the UAE from Samsung. I installed the Android Info app, and found that my phone is a yakjup build phone. I am having difficulty getting the update for jelly bean that has already been rolled out nearly 5 months ago. I am wondering if someone can specify a link to an easy guide or specify instructions to follow so that I can change my phone to a build that can receive the updates automatically OTA from Google.
Thanks

In short, your build is still on 4.0.4, if you want 4.2.1 you'll have to change to yakju/takju

[Q] Need Help: Google Nexus Prime - ICS (IMM76B) to JB

Folks,
Look at this screenshot attached.
I am an ex-googler and seems that when i was using this phone (Google Nexus Prime, i9250 or Nexus3 as they say) I was using internal (Google internal) upgrades. But probably I left the company while I was having an interim build and since then could not move to latest ICS or JB.
Hope fully you got the issue. Could you please guide me on how could I get to the latest android without hassles? (my current build IMM76B is probably not known outside Google)
Help please.
Regards,
Ankit
