You should at least describe what kind of app is that
If I were to say openly then it would give someone else the opportunity to make the same app and the Dev (if there is one) who would agree to make it wcould lose out even if only on the credit for making it.
Im guessing in order to get help you can't automatically presume that most developers are d*cks who steal ideas from other people.
Now you are putting words into my mouth. Not really helpful that. Though the vast majority are not there is always a small number who plagiarise as is seen in the market. Now may I thank you for your comments as I await an answer.
I'm guessing you wont pay them either? I think developers might be reluctant if they feel that after hearing it, they might get in trouble for deciding they wont go ahead (I've been in that situation before)
As a developer... what? I have no idea what you're on about.
If you want a developer you need to:
1. Make available information about what you want developed.
2. Pay someone (a reasonable sum), or have a genuinely interesting project. The later being substantially less likely than the former.
Yeah...even if I pm'd you for information, and then decided I can't proceed on developing it... isn't it the same? I would have heard your idea anyway, so you're better off saying it directly. ;-)
Or... you could apply for a patent on it if you fear there are lots of thieves here lmao

OK thanks for all the replies I will put my idea to a Dev forum that welcomes them.
Guys, please try and keep this on-topic without resorting to flaming the moment I close this tab.
@OP, XDA is all about sharing and working together to achieve common goals. As a result, developers here tend to work best when others can get involved. This kind of post pops up now and then, but these ideas usually end up unfulfilled due to the lack of information available.
And remember this is people's hobby, not necessarily their job, so most people aren't about to commit to making an app when they have no idea what it is. If it's not interesting to them, they likely won't want to do it.
awww sulky wulky. Hey any devs wanna build an app for me? I'm selling it but won't pay for it, and have no way of supporting it further down the line? No? Didn't think so. Flan.

How would you know if the developer that you share the idea will not simply use it for his own profit?
This is xda-developers (a developer community) and I never heard about a case of stolen ideas here.
If you'd like to find some help implementing an idea, you should at least describe the developer profile, technologies,...
i.e. I'm looking for a developer to build a simple 2D game that connects to a website to load pictures using http protocol.... No previous experience required, All source code should be sent to me and I'll share the profits.... please PM me for details.
You can try rent-a-coder and, for a fee you have your idea implemented.
Your arrogance is not welcome here pal.
Good luck with your idea.
I make a post offering to give someone my idea for an app that if they can make they can do what they like with and I get flamed for it. I am not a Dev, I am very new to Android OS. I see a need and think someone may find it easy to meet that need so try to make it known so an individual may even if the want profit from it. And for this I get called arrogant and told I am not welcome.
And as for the trolling I will not comment.

good luck, you won't find any! you come here asking for someone willing to do some stuff for you you won't tell them about before they agree to do it? lol! why should ANYONE agree to that. i, for one, am not interested on this conditions. also, this here (xda & android) is about community development, open source and therefore open ideas where everyone can profit.
if you wan't to sell the app then hire some dev for 20$/h but then you are indeed @ the wrong place here. otherwise just tell everyone about your idea and IF it's interesting, some people might pick it up...
Go and ask an iPhone dev if you wanna behave like that...not because youd fit in being a wanker but because they're much more commercially minded. It's funny in your original post you kinda imply most people working in this section and putting out material are not 'proper devs'. This is xda and this is open...people suggest apps all the time and people make it for free and maybe include ads or small charge to cover there costs, see lag fix, noled and galaxy s sim unlocker on market. You can be like the idea makers from there and just go 'that covers my needs and it's cool' or you can merrily skip along to an iPhone dev who is all profit.

So let's make it clear: you are offering the dev the idea and if he realizes it, all profits would go to him? He will publish it and everything? So why don't tell it straight away, if it's interesting someone will do it. Even if 2 or 3 people do it, there will be 2 or 3 apps for the same purpose. So what? How many im clients or gps navigation software are on the market, and still coming out? Do you think only one of them is getting money and the others don't? Users also like to have choice...
However you should at least tell what kind of skills are required? 2/3d gaming? Databases? Web connection? Kernel hacking? I think even if you aren't a developer yourself it shouldn't be difficult answering these questions... at least you are selecting potential candidates... that would be the minimum requisite for posting such requests, how can I know if I could do it if I don't even know what skills are required? Not all developers have the same background you know...

You are not going to dev it by the sounds of it, so it is really not up to you to keep such a project closed, isn't that exactly what you are asking to happen anyway? ( have another dev make it for you. )
You are coming on a forum, asking if any dev is willing to work on a secret project... ?
If there is money involved, and thus a reason for secrecy, do mention it.

Hi Guys,
So I looked in the general android development and DINC development but did not really find much. Basically I am looking into getting into Android Development. I just graduated Clarkson University yesterday and am going to work for Procter and Gamble and am going to have a lot of free time nights/weekends and want to get into this. As for my coding experience, I do not have much in java, however, I have taken a few comp sci classes in high school and have used MatLAB and LabVIEW a lot during college as a Mech E. So I am very familiar with coding and the logic behind it, just a matter of learning a new language.
I have started by downloading the Android SDK (just updated to 2.3) and have been doing a few of the tutorials they have on developers.android site such as Hello World, however this seems more geared to developing apps, which I do have a few ideas for. But what I would like to get into right now is some ROM development for the DINC as I have a few ideas for this too and would like to start with this.
So I was wondering if anyone could give some device on how they got started? Just pulled the code from HTC and opened it up and started looking around? Do a lot of you use Eclipse for development as they seem to suggest for apps? Is there any good guides to getting into ROM development as I have not quite found any? Also does anyone have any ideas and need some help work on things, I think this would be a good way to learn.
Thank you,
Brendan

Just realize it is a lot of work. You can start from pure source, or from CM, or CVPCS. Starting from pure source will give lots of problems but will probably teach you a lot about the system. Either way those links should be of some assistance. Look at CM device setup to see how device setups work. He has a working setup for most devices.
Alright! Another one comes aboard. Good luck man, keep us posted, ask questiions here cuz most are very knowledgeable and willing to help out. Dont give up, get us something 2.3 and very much thanks in advance for doing what you do.
Glad to see a thread like this. I have been interested in doing ROMs for a long time now but didn't really know where to start. This should get me running
If you run into any problems don't hesitate to contact me. You can reach by twitter at @linuxmotion or pm me for an email. Though I am relatively new, I can surely help if the you want some. Hope those links helped

So, I have been with Android since the G1 and then switched to the OG Droid on Verizon. Ever since the beginning I have been rooting and rom'ing my phones and loving every minute of it. I recently switched to Sprint because I absolutely loved the 4.5" SGS II and I'm in love with this phone. The exynos processor is insane, and should keep this phone near the top of the pile for a long time to come. Okay, enough ranting. My question is, does anybody have a single link or maybe a couple of links that I should go to if I was interested in starting to create my OWN rom for my phone? I am completely clueless about where to start and what to download, etc. and I know there are a ton of awesome devs in our community so I was hoping somebody would be able to give me a sort of headstart by showing me a site where somebody may have compiled all of the tools you need to get started. I appreciate any help in advance. Thanks guys.

Hello my Friends,
The time has really come to say Good Bye to all my Wonder Friends. I enjoyed and had a good time with all of you by learning/porting stuff.
I8150 is really a nice phone, but I needed to shift from this phone due to some reason.
Long story short, I spent half of my life in coding, leading teams of software engineers, managing enterprise level ERPs and architecting enterprise level application in all the latest and old languages/technologies. I took out some time and did some porting stuff, but my main target was to develop CM7 from sources.
I have most experience in Java/J2EE and less in C++. I tried to take help from different peoples but my bad luck no one guided me due to lack of time or just for no reason.
Not only from our forum I tried to contacted Exihibit II , Galaxy S Plus but I didn't get positive response, whatever the reason is but no one guide me. I searched myself and read a lot of material on net but not a single guide is perfect. There is no problem with Linux setup, I am use to of it.
I believe in Opensource and helping each other by spreading/sharing knowledge but in my case I couldn't search a person like this.
So I decided to switch (just not for CM7) to a device that have a lot of custom roms.
The porting I did is an asset for all of you. I want the guys should come up and take over the Roms from me. I hope you enjoyed my custom roms. If there is anyone who has some programming experience with smali/backsmali, apktool, understanding rom folders, hands on on merging /diff, ready to take risk of bricking then I will be happy to transfer my knowledge, but due to my tough schedule the person should be expert and self starter.
And finally I would like to special thank @arco, @andyroid, @irishpancake and All my Wonder community members.
Thank You All
i wish i had enough knowledge cuz i really wantd to learn from you but im just a noob at these stufff
but i hope u have a better experience with your new device

Hi Ali dsd,
Please stick around as there's no one place or person to obtain this building -information in a reliable and complete form that we're looking for. I too got burnt similarly and still am in process of setting my own build environment based whatever that seemed to work for me from my captures from various blogs, forums and sites.
It's from open minded contributors like you that, when collectively packaged, would effective stuff come and came from. While I respectfully disagree this to be a reason for departure which is quite an expected risk with any open source stuff, I think your presence and continued contribution would benefit others looking to go along your route, though your participation might be less active than earlier.

Don't worry @andyroid, I am not going from XDA, I will be around , I will be checking W forums ( I haven't deleted it from my Fav ) time to time.
Amazingly my new device is not a high end device, Its just Nexus S. I think you will ask why ????
It will save my time . ... How ???? Mostly all types of Rom flavors are there, I just need to flash and use it, and the time I save from here can put on getting some certifications (like PMP, J2EE Architect and MCPD ). Its my decision and it doesn't mean that Nexus S is superior then Galaxy W.
Believe me or not but Galaxy W is an amazing device based on hardware it uses and the small size is very pocket friendly.

I have already said that anyone who have some knowledge in porting can contact me , i will happily transfer my knowledge, because sharing knowledge is the major path to increase knowledge and community, but the person should have some experience.

HI alidsd, I understand you, cause I have your same motivation on developing. I studied information tecnology, so I have some knowledgies, but I'm new with android and I'm trying to do somenthing with my rom. I have your main target, build cm7 from source, but as u said there isn't a guide that really help in this, and for me is difficult to begin with it.
So now I have begininng to first port some mods to a gb rom, then to learn how to create a kernel and to port a complete rom. After these steps I like to begin cm7 from source, but I know is really hard.
I also have to say that it is demotivating to see there aren't much developers for our phone, that we haven't ICS from Samsung and at this time we haven't a complete ICS rom, while there is a new android version so probably i never work on cm7, too old...and for this, i was thinking it was better if I took a nexus s....however i can't change phone for now, so i continue to study and develop for my W...but in future the only phone i'll buy should be a nexus or a phone with more contribute from community...
Goodbye Ali and good luck with your new phone

happy porting buddy..

i was motivated by your words Alisd, i really was serious and dreamed to learn more about android, i wanted to try what bagux was doing but i ain't got enough time for it. i was amazed and never imagined that a person whose managing software engineers also tried tweaking our W XD i'm just a beginner software engineer about 6months old on work and specialized in VB and for some reasons i can say i also am at Cobol, i was still trying to learn now despite of the schedule i have and i am starting it on making android apps for now and maybe tweaking in the future. can i ask what company are you working?

UPDATE
I got rid of Nexus S and bought HTC Desire S. Most of you will be wondering Why ???, a lot of reasons. if anyone have interest to know then he can PM me.
I would suggest guys not to go for Nexus S now, its not a good time, it could be debatable but its my personal opinion. All of the Roms that are available for NS are also available for DS.
At last Galaxy W is a good phone, so please stick with it till you find a better phone according to your needs.
Because I have been part of this community so I thought that I should update my community.

I want to form a group of devs/general people, and I want us to get things done for the Galaxy Nexus.
From WebOS to Ubuntu to FirefoxOS, and even Android itself, arguably no other device (except maybe the Nexus 4) has the potential that the Galaxy Nexus has. I know there's a lot of you out there who don't really know anything about ROM development, you're far from calling yourself a developer, and I'm in the same boat, I put together a guide for installing WebOS on the Galaxy Nexus, but all I did was follow the original guide, figured out the gaps, and re-wrote it with the gaps filled in... I want to do more, I'd like to give credit to myself for a change.
I don't know much, but I want to learn... What I'm saying is, I have ambition but I lack skill.
In any case, if you're kind of just sitting around, perusing the forums, and you want to be a part of something really cool, chime in- even if you aren't a dev, because even the CyanogenMod team started off as a bunch of clueless noobs.
It'd be cool to have some experienced devs, some regular ROM flashers who know only how to flash ROMs, anyone who wants to contribute/learn in some way. I'd like to start off with Open WebOS (in case you haven't guessed), and I would call this the "WebOS A-Team", but I thought, why do we have to stop with WebOS?... I suppose we could, we'll see if anyone is even into this.
No one's heard from the WebOS Ports team in a while, and they aren't really focusing on the Galaxy Nexus, so I think we can certainly work with it.

whaaa....????? you're making it seem like the only reason you want to do this is for YOUR benifit. i know jack about building roms, but i think if you want to start somewhere, learn how to build basics, like compile CM or AOKP and learn how to add your OWN mods to it. After that, learn some more, and after that, learn some more, then you can put together your all-star team and work on WebOS. Just my .2, take it as it is.
