Correct way to transfer photos (date incorrect)? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I just got the GN, and I'm very happy with it thus far! I have one question though, and it's something that's very annoying. What is the correct way to transfer photos to the phone, where it will KEEP the date of the photo rather than creating the pictures with today's date?
For instance, I have about 400 photos I want on the phone. I connected the phone, and just did a simple drag and drop. They transferred fine, but when they did, they all had TODAY'S date rather than the date the photos were created/edited/taken.
Am I doing something wrong here? Can anyone point out to me how to get the pictures to retain their date?
Thanks!

Check picasaweb. Your photos should be synced there. It will have all the correct times in the exif info.

I'm sure the pictures metadata still has the proper date of when they were taken intact, but the Gallery is simply reading when they were moved to the phone instead. Surely a different more photo-centric gallery app would sort by date taken not date added.

[Q] Photos in Gallery not sorting correct

I have the T-Mobile SGS3. I noticed today while looking in the Gallery app to view my photos that they are not in the order that I have taken them. I checked the details, and the 'Title' shows the actual date/time the photo was taken. The 'Time' shows something different. The EXIF data from the photos that were instantly uploaded to my dropbox shows the correct timestamp of when the photo was taken.
I also noticed that some photos with different timestamps were the photos I used to transfer via Wifi Direct or S-Beam.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is a major flaw if the timestamps are being changed due to transferring.
one more thing...
I also noticed that the photos are dated in the future. For example, one photo was taken on 7/13/2012 20:20 and now shows a date of 7/16/2012 10:02.

Yes, the freaking timestamp is wrong in the detail. Thus making any google+ photo upload messed up in date as well. Tried clear data on both gallery and camera...not working. Tried to install default ICS gallery, not working. The only way I can view the image in right order is to use QuickPic...but the timestamp is still messed up. :crying:

This is happening on my Verizon S III also.
It seems to be Google+ causing the problem. I disabled Instant Upload and it appears to have fixed the problem for any new pictures I take. The pictures with the broken timestamps don't even have any data in the "date taken" field in the EXIF data when I check it on my PC.
Try disable G+ Instant Upload and let us know if it fixes it for you.

sort gallery pics and videos
Hi. i had a problem when i was copyin pics from one of my device to other. It couldnt be sorted . I tried many options such as renaming , quick pic . nne worked. I found that when you copy pics to windows and it automatically stamps a "date created" time any time a file is copied. Due to this when i copied my pics to a new device from windows folder it wouldnt be sorted by date taken rather was sorted by date created. the way around is not using windows as the middle platform.
I connected both my source phone and destination device to a laptop. Copy directly from one device storage to the destination device storage. this does not edit the time stamp. This worked for me and all the copied itmes were sorted in gallery according to time taken.
So the only way is to copy directly from one device storage to another device storage (without copying it to windows intermediate folder).
Hope this works. do let me know if you need any help.

new panorama mode does not write data tag - causes messed up order in gallery

Hey,
I found several post about the gallery image order, but i think I've found a new problem...
I started after i deleted the app data for the gallery (because of another bug, where it doesn't show all of whatsapp videos), and my mistake was i didn't back it up with titanium backup first...
After the deletion, it appears that while most of the images are in the correct order, the panorama images are messed up, not completely, they are still close to their old location, but moved a couple of spots...
i tried debugging it, and i think that the cause is that the panorama files don't have the data taken exif tag... (same problem as with the video files)
I will try to add the tag myself and see if it works, but i was wondering if maybe it wasn't there for a reason? i know the files are not standard jpeg...
I would be happy for some input or some ideas from someone with more experience!
Any other ideas what to do...
It's a bit annoying

Update
It seems that the time data tag is written...
I thought it didn't because windows 7 didn't manage to read it, which might indicate the real problem.
Anyway, i've used ExifTool on 2 pictures taken one after the other, one of them is panorama and the other is a normal picture.
They both have correct exif tags and appear in the correct order, but what i did find out is that the tag "Exif Tag Order" is different, it is "little endian" for the panorama and "big endian" for the normal picture, other than that they are the same...
I'm clueless
I'm attaching links to my pictures, can someone try to help me debug it?
Picture a
Picture b (panorama)
Picture c
The pictures were taken in the above order, but picture c appears in the gallery between a & b (with more pictures).
EDIT - Forgot to mention, I've installed QuickPic to see what it does.
QuickPic, when told to sort by date, put all of the movies first (because they don't have exif, annoying problem itself), then all of the panorama pictures (in the correct relative order), then the normal pictures (again, in the correct relative order)
So there is some problem with the different tags!
err!

[Q] Instant upload and gallery

Hi guys.
So I've been using Instant upload for a long time now and I like the option to have extra copies of my images stored in the cloud in case something happens to my phone or something like that. Everything works great except one thing.
From time to time I get new folders in gallery, albums of pictures that are already in the main "Instant Upload" album are showing up alone. Sorted in the Y/M/D format (usually). That wasn't a big deal, I downloaded Perfect Tool for Picasa and dealt with it by deleting extra albums, and only leaving album "Instant Upload" undeleted. And for a few days everything is good again. And a few weeks back problems started, by problems I mean something that Google changed. New captured pictures are uploaded but put into the separate folders and again, sorted by date. That just looks ugly in the Gallery.
So my question is next.
Is it possible to keep the option for Instant Upload but make it not visible in the Gallery ? I'd really like that.
If there's the need to use a different Pictures Viewer, let it be.
Please, someone answer.
Thank you for reading.
I think you have to uncheck the synchronization with Instant Upload and Google Photos in accounts' settings, then clear gallery's cache if needed.
But won't that disable uploading photos to the cloud ?
Still need help with this, if anyone knows anything about how this works, please help out.
I'm having the exact same experience. Apparently it's a known issue and Google is already working on a resolution.

P.S. This is not a Gnex specific issue... it's happening on all phones.

Auto backed up photos not restoring

I have tons of old photos that were auto backed up from my old S3. I can even see them online in my folder My Photos>Auto Backup in Picasa web albums.
I have a new S3 and have sync for photos enabled but none of the photos from the old S3 have been restored to my new S3. The new photos I take on the new S3 are being backed up to the cloud but I can't seem to get the old photos to show up on my new phone.
I thought backed up photos were supposed to automatically be restored. How do I make this happen?
TIA
The concept behind cloud backup of photos is that they're stored in the cloud in case you need to replace the device, sell it, or otherwise not have the original physical location anymore. There is no 'cloud auto-restore photo' setting for any app as far as I know, only backups.

Not so.
Before I got my new S3 Sprint gave me a loaner Galaxy Nexus. Soon after activation all my previously taken photos were available on my Nexus. So if the photos were transferred to the Nexus they should be transferred to the new S3.
Furthermore, the new S3 has all of my other Picasa albums available for viewing. The only album I can't see on my new S3 is the one with the photos I took with my original S3.
So anyone have an idea how to get all these backed up camera photos onto my new S3?
Anyone???

Have you tried making a New Folder in Picasa on your computer. Move the photos into that folder while still on the PC. Then sync the device, and see if they show up.

None of the photos are on my PC and it would take forever to download all of them, there are thousands.
Would this work if I just moved the photos into another folder in the cloud?
But if I did that I think I'd have a storage problem because you only get unlimited storage for backed up photos. As soon as I move the photos out of the default folder they start to count against my quota. Right?
I meant just move them to a different folder in the cloud. I'm not sure how that particular cloud service works. So I can't tell you if it will count against your storage limits.

Question Duplicate photographs to new Samsung S22 and keep up with time/date stamps?

Hello,
I just got another S22 running android 12. I'm moving the photographs from the microSD card in the S10e (obviously they eliminated the SD card opening in the S22) to the S22. I did it first utilizing SmartSwitch however it changed every one of the Modified dates to now. So then, at that point, I took a stab at compressing the records, moving the compress to the S22 and unfastening it utilizing Files application from Google. Again it changed the dates to now despite the fact that inside the compress document the dates were all right. Any thoughts here how to keep up with time/date stamps?
Much appreciated,
Zane Willer

How to Transfer Photos between Android Devices Without Losing Timestamps
If you like to keep your photos organized by the date they were taken, you may encounter an annoying issue regarding dates. Specifically, the timestamps
appuals.com
A point to note is the camera app appears to name files with a timestamp based on the STARTING time. Some transferring programs (like Photo-Sync) can send using just the filename, but others may use the STOPPING timestamp. As in, start a 5 minute video recording today at 9am and the FILENAME will say "20220506_0900.mpg" but anything using the metadata will name it "20220506_0905.mpg". Most do not seem to offer a way to get the starting timestamp for this sort of thing.
I just ran into this transferring some pictures between several (family) devices, one of which stored with files named liked "IMG_XXXXX". The transferring options only offered the ENDING timestamp for creating a filename template. Some of the pix had been taken on an Android with the starting timestamp, but when transferred onto an IOS device ended up with an IMG_XXXX format. Transferring them BACK resulted in duplicates due to the start vs end timestamp. So, yeah, that's a hassle. I'll use the windows TreeSize program to help search and remove the duplicates but, ugh, more work...
I may have to dig into writing some code that renames start-based files to end-based recording timestamps.
Upside is Photo-Sync DOES preserve the timestamps on the files themselves.
